    Good test! However there’s some serious limitations. You’re not objectively measuring light transmission. So to say one product “gets dark” as fast as another is subjective. Same with the fade back; if one lens is starting from less light transmission then that makes a difference. Also, what % of light transmission is “clear”? If you can get equipment to measure that it would be great!

    Dr. D, I just ordered my first pair of transition lenses and we went with Xtractive. We had no idea what color to pick from gray or brown so the dude working there picked gray for us. I do not normally like gray in anything. I got frames with a purple tint color and my mom picked blue, and in my opinion brown would look much better now that I’m thinking about this. Any suggestions on gray vs brown?

    • @EyeSchoolwithDrD
      @EyeSchoolwithDrD  3 роки тому +6

      Hi! The grey vs brown debate is definitely personal preference. I find that my patients with lighter eyes and more light sensitivity really like grey because its darker and brings the colors and light down more. I personally like brown because it tends to make colors "pop" and increase contrast. Then there's the matter of the frame color and coordinating with that. If you hate the grey when you get it, most places have a one time Dr remake you can use. Especially if you're just switching color and not adding or deleting other specs of the lenses. Hope that helps, excited for you to try them!

      Transitions Drivewear are geared toward driving. It is not recommended to be worn at night. Plus, it appear they are not available for hi index lenses, such at 1.67.
      The Xtraactive and Xtraactive Polarized also go dark behind the wheel. However the Polarized darkens the most and regular Xtraactive only darkens at point or two behind the wheel. The polarization in Xtraactive Polarized is minimal behind the wheel and most effective when outside. However, Drivewear retains max polarization behind the wheel and even changes colors depending on the amount of glare.

    Essilor has merged with Luxottica and has become a super monopoly of sorts. The prices of new eyeglasses have become obscene. I'm currently searching for a pair of eyeglasses that I prefer, for less than $1,000! Insane what this industry has turned into. For 2 pieces of plastic that cost $20 to manufacture. Same for the frames. Outrageous.
