'Hey, I know this song." Thats how old I am. 62 and reliving good memories from this song. LOL. Love it! Have the CD in my car.
Another AMAZING band and excellent rabbit hole. Enjoy the whole album and beyond.
Thanks so much, Ace! Supertramp were amazing.. a great band with a fantastic instrumental "balance"... some of my favorites are "School" and "Take the Long way Home"... if you like Supertramp, you might also appreciate "Squeeze".. I love your reactions!
Supertramp has always been underrated and they are sooooo good! Knew you would like them! Happy New Year from your friends in northeast Florida
Sophomore or Jr year in HS...those were the days
Back in the 70s, there were 2 major electric pianos. Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer. This is a Wurlitzer. They each had their own distinctive sounds...this is coming from a guy (me) that did live sound for bands from 79 until I sold off in 2020.
Spanish roll rs but this is not what was happening because he was speaking a foreign language, some brits roll their rs because of being "posh"
The instrument you described as a clam is the castanets, which are basically clams made of wood. They come from flamenco music, but have become a standard percussion instrument in orchestras.
That "tap dance" sound is a hand held instrument called "castenets"
This is one of those songs where the lyrics are more important than the music.
YAY one of my MOST favorite songs EVER!!! when i 1st heard it i was a lil kid & i credit this song along with ALL of Led Zeppelin & Pink Floyd which i got into at the same young age with teaching me a LOT!!! **ForeverLoveThemALLInfinity&Beyond** **PixieTwirls** 1 2 3 5!!!
I was this boy when this came out.
I had hundreds of miles of this on my car CASSETTE.
NAS-T tenor sax.
"Breakfast in America". ALL of it.
Sadly, today our "education system" turns our young into vegetables.😨
I was 19 yrs old when I first heard songs from Supertramp and loved it 🔥❤️
Have a Happy Healthy, Prosperous, New Year! Love this song! So true, right?🙂✌️
Hey Ace! Thanks for the mention.
I'm not sure exactly which descending part you were talking about but I did notice that you identified this really cool and well-arranged bass guitar line. It feels lumbering and sometimes it's legato where it sustains the notes and then it'll switch up during the next section and be more staccato, where it's just short bursts. It feels lumbering but it really gives the song Its overall feel and motion against the backdrop of busier things going on, like the castanets you mentioned for percussion in that one section.
I get the same feeling that I get with certain Bob Marley songs where I feel like I am riding in a big colorful slow-moving jalopy moving down the street at night and taking in all the activity on the street, lol.
And in terms of layering, It feels like everything fits together like a jigsaw puzzle. Both the arrangement and the mix work together to create all this space inside it and yet it feels really busy and fun to dance to and just to listen to. All of the instruments and all of the various parts work together so well that they have room to breathe in and be heard. It's a fantastic arrangement and mix.
Bloody Well Right is a great song by them off the previous album.
That Sax was singing!! Gotta check out their album "Breakfast in America. Not a bad song on it! ❤
For me, ohne of the best's Bands of hole time. They brought me in a good mood at once every time. I am 62 now. Try 'dreamer' and 'Fool'overture' to fell it 😊...
Nice to see someone other than me digs the sax!
This is from one of the best albums of all time😎✌

I tried to tell people you need to educate to elevate.. this is a Bangor family
It's the British accent
one two three FIVE
Aaah the memories. What a great album
Your clientele is ignorant, straight banger, do it live they actually play their own instruments
The lyrics.,true true true, except they got the liberals flip flopped today. 😂
Why is the bass so loud in all of your videos??? It is very unnatural and distracting.
It's certainly not a flat EQ but I really don't have a problem with it. I do however wish that in general the media playback volume were louder in relation to the mic volume. Not by much, just a little.
Same here. Agree on both points.
