It’s like two fantastic songs in one. Love how the Stones incorporate sax and piano into their songs. So freaking good! Check out Moonlight Mile for a whole different vibe from the Stones to see how versatile they are.
That last instrumental part was a jam session after the original recording ended. Brilliant! I've always said, The Stones are the funkiest of the classic rock bands. Check out the song, Let It Bleed and 2000 Light Years From Home, two of my favorite songs from the band!
The golden era is 68-72. There is some very good, reputation making music before that, but their real impact was how they grew in this period. Each album is full of hits, and I'll let the Internet bid on those, but each album also contains wonderful deep cuts. Beggar's Banquet (1968) has the absolutely (and possibly criminal) Stray Cat Blues, Let It Bleed has Monkey Man, Sticky Fingers has, well...Can't You Hear Me Knocking, for sure, but also Bitch and Sister Morphine, and Exile has Rocks Off, Rip This Joint and Torn and Frayed. Check out the hits for the fun and education, but these albums, with their depth, loose grooves and zeitgeist, define an important facet of rock and roll. Fans will have opinions (ahem), and mine is of diminishing returns after 1972. Some Girls, and the live concert Texas 78 are exceptions, and the peak of their late career. Much cheers!
Around this same time Traffic was doing the extended/progressive styles of music. And after Revolver and Sgt. Peppers all bets were off and bands were freed up to fly wherever they wanted.
An addict, trying to get straight, and the demons and pushers , keep knocking at the door...or that poor dealer , can't get no rest because of the addicts? Hmmm? But what I do know that final instrumental, was a War for the Soul.....and epic! ❤
It is copied like usual with the Stones - Harrison had a long ending similar to this on Something which Macca talked him out of, then Clapton took the idea and did on Layla which was released in March of '71, and happened to be when the Stones were recording this song.
@@tcspur1 that's what all the BIG DUMMIES say when they can't understand. I'm talking to a brain that is soaked with alcohol, one foot in the grave, the other on a banana peel - I don't expect you to know what genius is!
The song was supposed to end in about 3:43 minutes, but the tape kept playing and they kept jumming because they having fun. Jimmy Miller (the producer) recorded it on tape. Then they decided that it should go on the record. And that was one of the best decisions because this song was played in many (mafia) films and of course in “Blow” with Johnny Depp. The next one should be “Sister Morphine” - I hope you can do it! Best regards @all from Hamburg, Germany ;-))
1971 was not "better" for the average working-class people. Young American men were still being drafted and sent to die in Vietnam. The mismanagement of that war then created a lot of problems for the guys that did return home. It was a period of big changes in Western culture, with music evolving at a very fast pace as well. I would definitely enjoy many aspects of the culture at the time. "Chevy Van" by Sammy Johns, reflects what I think of as the "pipe dream" of that time Cruisin' the highway, and makin' love to beautiful, all-natural young ladies... 😎 Chicks were great in 1971. 🤙
Songs about needing a fix. Ain’t no stranger. My legs are kicking. Maybe going into withdrawal. Could be about getting laid also. I’m sure Keith or Mick have said.
Very talented musicians got together and they got fucked up on a bunch of drugs and they played this and then they went to a recording studio and they took the best parts and they mixed them together and here we are.. Most of it happened live.

With the release of this song I knew that I would play sax for the rest of my life. Bobby Keys changed my life.
As a 71 yr old. I can say that whenever I thought I had the Stones figured out, they did something like this. 😊
Texas Bobby Keys on sax - very soulful!

Simply one of my favorite rock songs of all time...period

2000 Light Years From Home I played so much at a small families pool hall on the jukebox that when they finally closed they gave me the 45 )
The Fabulous Rolling Stones!!!❤Rockanroll!!!
Love the Stones, what a great selection.
I've got one of the Sticky Fingers albums with the zipper. Pretty damn good album.
Three eras of he band - Brian Jones, Mick Taylor, and Ronnie Wood. Each has its fans but Taylor was a prodigy
💯
Next do "Time Waits for No One." Another banger by the Stones.

Great reaction! This is one of my favorite Stones' songs. That bass guitar is so heavy, and the extended jam is really nice.

The first thing I thought when I clicked on this video was "he has a voice and charisma for radio". Great reaction, definitely earned a sub.
Purely improvised jam when the song ended, thank the music gods they chose to leave it in, wicked brilliant

Mick Taylor comes along .and you get this !
Nothing better.
Amen to that!
Mick Taylor🙏
People always talk about the end jam, & it’s great, no doubt but for me it’s all about Keith’s nasty guitar, Charlie’s drum groove & Mick’s vocal.
Went from a rock song to a Carlos Santana jazz-like jam! Wow!❤
hes talking about needin a fix and going down to bad places to get something to ease the pain
One of the best intro's out there.
I spent my entire life a Stones fan until I realized I was a Mick Taylor Stones fan. What a jam.
Timeless classic. Mick Taylor Stones=Best Stones

The jam session that is the second half of this song is probably the greatest accident to ever happen in music.
Thank God they left the tape running.
I think Mick is singing to his plug. Lol
The guitar riffs , especially to start are so pleasing.
Cocain eyes - uh...check out when this song dropped...that explains everything. One of my fav Stones song actually...that jam session
You could say the end was a Latin Blues groove. A Salsa rhythm isn't too far off.

Great song n reaction Ace. Salsa at will mate, lol ☘️🇺🇲
Mick Taylors' opening riff just stops me every time I hear it. I hear it a LOT
Watching you react to this song I would guess you really liked this song. I'm just saying...my opinion 😂
Not a fan of the stones but i did like this tune and the some girls album🤘❤️
Thanks for letting us know you're not a fan of the Stones.
