Can we just take a minute to give props to the way Rogers voice transforms into a synth sound, at the end of each verse, each time its different with a delay, echo, reverb and oscillation. Sonic masterpiece
Unreal isn't it? First time I heard that transition my jaw dropped. Then it dropped again at the euphoric outro. Also the line 'only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air' and later in the ominous synth mid-section there is definitely an unease in the air! Absolute masters. To have one song like this in your repertoire is impressive. To have as many utter masterpieces as Floyd have is just ridiculous.
to mimic a sheep like voice
@@dturasky19 That's what I thought too
I never could stand his voice regardless of what affects they put on it.😅
@@keithr-xj7zx yet here you are listening to it
People will tell you to listen to Pink Floyd albums as a whole & this song is an example of why. There's a certain word that was repeated in Dogs & it fades out, then it fades back in half way through Sheep as if its always been there. This album is an amazing trip, start to finish.
@@slightlySuperior yeah, listen to it whatever way you like, but if you do listen to the whole album in one go, you might enjoy it. I would try that for any album, not just Pink Floyd.
@@slightlySuperior Hi, I'm one of this extremist and I just want to tell you one thing! It doesn't matter if we are extremists, it only matters if we are right ;-)
that's why they are called concept albums! 🙂
The word is “stone”, as in “dragged down by the stone”in Dogs
@@georgelynch6139 spoiler! 😆
what I've always liked about this song is how Roger's voice bleeds so well into the synthesizer and then explodes
Rick Wright was a wizard behind the keyboards. RIP Legend.
one of the Best Albums Ever recorded!!!!
Dont you just love how the start lulls you into a false sense of security? Then the forboding bassline slowly creeps in. They are truly brilliant musical story tellars. Keep up the great PF reactions.
"Animals" from 1977 is by far the best studio album by PF. It was also during the tour for this album that Roger Waters came up with the idea for the iconic album "Tha Wall". Great review. Keep digging into Pink Floyd's catalog. There are an incredible amount of goodies here. Keep up the good work :)
Sadly Roger Waters thinks that if you made good music in the past, you become an expert on politics automatically in the present day.
NO Roger.
@@markschattefor6997hypocrite much?
The Wall is so over rated
This album was one a free 3 CD giveaway when I bought my 1st CD player 35 odd years ago. Had never been in to Floyd before that, trust me I was after listening to this album. Oh one of the other free CDs was Deep Purple 'In Rock' 👍
It might be your favourite, but it's impossible to say it's their best. How well DSOTM has done, makes that indisputably their best. And I'm not saying that because it's my favourite, because it isn't. Mines is as you mentioned 'The Wall.' Came out the same year I entered this world, & was the first Pink Floyd album I'd heard. Think I was about 7-8 yrs old when I discovered them, and it was because I got a loan of my neighbours VHS of the movie after seeing a little bit of it in her house. Been my top band ever since.
Awesome album... equally awesome tune
Another reason Pink Floyd has been and will always be my all time favorite band.
animals was the album that started my 46 year obsession with pink floyd. i had been a casual fan (mainly from stuff i heard on the radio from the dark side of the moon) then i went to see them live in may 1977,and it changed me as a person as well as my musical tastes. i spent that summer immersed in their music, buying animals and every album in the back catalog, and never looked back.
Very similar to my journey with PF. My first real immersion coincided with my very first acid trip accompanied by this album, back in '78. Needless to say my mind was (temporarily) blown and from that moment forward I became somewhat obsessed with everything in the Floyd's extensive catalog. Never saw them live unfortunately, but did see solo Gilmour twice and Waters once...all fantastic shows. Had tickets to Mason's solo tour but had to back out last minute. Still bummed about that one.
@@z-man2343 i was fortunate enough to live near one of the three cities where they performed the wall in 1980 (los angeles). i took acid that night, and it was amazing! still my top concert of all time, and i've seen hundreds since then. i saw the gilmour led pink floyd reboot twice, and waters' tours for pros and cons, radio kaos,in the flesh (closest thing to an "amused to death" tour),the wall twice, and the most recent "this is not a drill" tour. i have videos from that last one on my channel (shameless plug). i hope nick brings his saucerful of secrets band to the u.s. someday. pre-dark side of the moon music would be fantastic to see live.
Animals was the first PF I heard from start to finish. It was my older brother’s album and listened to it while he was at work. Been a PF fan ever since. That was around 1977. I finally got to see them live in 1987. Best concert in my life.
Before TOOL, there was Pink Floyd… both are genres in their own right, both unrivalled musicianship
please don't mention tool in the same sentence as pink floyd.
Also, Pink Floyd and Tool, in my view, have very similar ways they organize their songs: lull, punch, bridge, punch, lull
@@DannyD714you would probably like tool. I didnt at first.
They are very much like floyd a slow burn band.
@@doscwolny2221 perhaps. i was just trying to be funny. i do get a little ticked when someone listens to pink floyd and says something like "this sounds a lot like tool". i get that way when any classic rock band is compared to a newer band. that's just me.
@@DannyD714 for clarity I didn’t mean to imply the bands are or sound the same. Rather highlighting the unique and groundbreaking approach they both have to songwriting and performance. They both deeply move their listeners, emotionally and spiritually. Well, in my humble opinion but I respect your view. 🙂
This entire album is a timeless masterpiece with musicianship at its finest🖤
Dogs and Pigs 3 different ones are my favorites. Don't take me wrong as All Pink Floyd songs are masterpieces.
I love Pink Floyd so much i went to the Battersea power station. Now a shopping centre. One of the chimneys now holds a lift up to 360 degree view of London.
They lull you,… then kick you in the face with brilliance. Some of David Gilmour’s best guitar work on this album. (First commenter.)Grand reaction indeed as always. Pink Floyd- “ God level musicianship”. Thank you for that grand trip my friend!!!!!!
sevsimo, this is one of the greatest albums ever. Do yourself a favor and listen to the entire LP.✌️
'Animals' might not be their most popular album, but it's by far their best.
agree...to me is they best album ever....
@@pipepires For me too. It's a masterpiece. I can hear it every day and never get bored.
If you're going to listen the Wall, my advce is to listen as a whole music album. It's very important not only for the lyrics, but also for sound perspective as well
Thanks for listening, my favourite off the album.😊
Rick Wright is such an amazing keyboard player. He's never mentioned in top 10 lists, even though he deserves to be in everyone's top 5. I watched them play this album live in 1977. it was immaculate.
This album, in the 1970's and to this day, had more of an impact on my life than any other. It's something that is just beyond reach to describe with words, but after enjoying thousands of albums in all genres this is the one I come back to with genuine need.
aw man! the feels are real with any Pink Floyd albums! keep having fun!
I listened to Floyd for years before reading the lyrics and they came as no surprise once i started reading them.
Best Floyd Album in my opinion...i can listen to this album on repeat and not get bored with it...
I understand your comment and maybe agree with it but man, it's hard to pick a favorite album for me. I think a lot of people might not say DSOTM simply because they've heard it so much; The Wall is great and I also really like the Division Bell. But ultimately I'd agree with you; this is probably my favorite. So much fun watching young people discover my favorite band!
My number two favorite Pink Floyd song.
The nearly unrepeatable brilliance of Pink Floyd shines again.
One of the greatest bands of all-time, period.
Listening to this “Live” in quad was like being inside the headphones !!
It was the only time I ever saw Pink Floyd, partly because I knew nothing could ever top it. ❤❤
I am from south africa and when dark side came out in 1973, everything was pirate copy because our churches decided it was the work of the devil. Having played my copy so many times, i fell in love. No band touches PF for longevity. Glad you havd becoms a part of that. Dave.
Great to see young peoples reaction to Pink Floyd music .
Pink Floyd are Masterpieces and Goats who brings you into a journey on every songs and instrumentals
Music is a universal language, this is probably Floyd's best work in my humble opinion...Those wonderful Britts....
Animals is my favorite Floyd album, even more so than Dark Side.
Pink Floyd was the first band to use quadraphonic pick-ups, that's why they sound so great in headphones.
The lyrics man ...what a groove ..but the lyrics ...on point as always ...love the Floyd
Saw Les Claypool (Primus) and Sean Lennon perform Pink Floyd's Animals album with the Frog Brigade a few weeks ago. Amazing rendition of the entire album.
It's amazing how quickly these long songs go by and how they all leave you wanting more. Even Echoes, which is an absolute masterpiece (I see you've done Pompeii), and Atom Heart Mother are over too fast. And I love the way Pink Floyd can evoke an image with their music, and to me in this song Gilmour's guitar hacking and slicing in here and there sound like blades, and then there's the relative calm and nervous praying of the chute before the slaughter and climax of the song. Brilliant!
Animals is my favourite Floyd album
gilmour is on the bass and lead on this studio version
Really? Never knew that. Why I wonder.
I knew I had read that somewhere. He has used this bass riff before with a slight difference. It is very driving. I love it.
Gilmour also plays bass and lead guitar on “Pigs”
David was sharper on the bass and was always studio ready.
Watching your reaction reminds me of how I felt the first time too.
I’m glad you are getting into some Floyd not too many people know about these masters anymore, all of today’s music had to of been influenced in some way by Floyd, King Crimson, early Genesis yada yada. These bands are starting to be forgotten, thank you for delving into Floyd and bringing these epic, masterful songs and albums out to the masses. Maybe you could check out the other two choppy bands I mentioned above.
You need to hear One Of These Days I’m Going Cut You Into Little Pieces by Floyd. You’ll love it.
Waters
Gilmour
Wright
Mason
Greatest group of people doing anything together in human history.
SAW THIS CONCERT IN MONTREAL OLYMPIC STADIUM…..
80,000+ PERFORMED IN QUADRAPHONIC, WITH THE PROPS N LIGHTING IT TRUELY UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE.
THIS ALBUM NEEDS TO BE LISTENED TO AS WHOLE. IT IS LITERALLY ONE SONG. YOU DID SAY IT WAS TOO SHORT… WELL, START TO FINISH. PRETTY MUCH ALL THIER ALBUMS ARE THE SAME, IT ALL PLENDS TOGETHER. GREAT REACTIONS, ROCK ON MAN 👊🖖
This album just gets better & better
Saw this concert around 1977-ish at the Oakland Coliseum when I was in high school, they played this whole album, the whole, wishing you were here album most of dark side of the moon and songs from a few other records really cool show
My older brother got cassette when it came out in 77, played it in his 75 ply road runner on the pioneer super tuner ...
Been my fav pink floyd over the years.
My favorite album of Pink Floyd. Been listening to them since 1971. I was 10 yrs old and they had me forever!
Listen "Welcome to the machine" from the album "wish you were here" and hear the inordinate amount of detail in the synth sounds there. Simply an extraordinary track. If you then think that it is music from 50 years ago and more....
I saw Roger live in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a week ago, and he played that.. it was the best show ive ever been to
I found your channel a couple weeks ago and by far my FAV reaction channel by far now!!! I’ve watched all your Tool reactions and love it! Welcome to the Tool Army bro 🤘🏼
Thank you my bro!
Hey!! I found your channel last night, I'm working in the Canadian Arctic, not a lot of sun and long nights.
The way you get into the music is fantastic!! It's making the night shift up here way better, thank you.
If you love pink Floyd, try some Rush.....it has the same depth and complexity. Like Floyd, it stands on its own, no compromise. Much is experimental and beyond simply music. Also they don't write love songs, they have something to say about our world in every performance.
Tom Sawyer and Spirit of Radio are two great starter songs. Neil purr is considered the greatest drummer of all time, Getty Lee is beyond amazing.
They are guitar centric with skills that match or supercede Waters and Gillmore.
Thanks man!! I'm going to enjoy all this music with you!!! Cheers!!!
The best concert I ever attended was Pink Floyd at Clemson university in South Carolina in 1994! Almost as good of a contact high as the Tom Petty concert in Charlotte NC! Almost!
This is music that train the brain.
Whole album is MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!
Jack Palance was a professional boxer.
Thank you for your work Sir.
Progressive, creative, emotional, unexpected changeups, unconventional sounds, highest level of musical craftsmanship. That is why people say they are like Tool, It really doesnt have to do with the overall sound of the music.
the Dr. Who song, love it!
sevsimo, the rhythm section is locked in. 🤯
You're doing it right. Just close your eyes, put on your headphones, and drift to another world. This album is perfect to listen to as a whole, fyi
Sage advice. "Get out of the road, if you want to grow old."
Sheep is my favo of this album.
Good to hear an Aussie accent pumping out the tunes... have you looked into YES, ELP, King Crimson, Hawkwind, Jethro Tull, VDGG, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Caravan, etc....??
Pink Floyd & acid ...that was the 70’s ..at least on 🇨🇦 side of the Detroit River ...😁
This the works of that master mind Roger Waters , very best studio album they have!!
I’m new to the channel and I’ve backtracked to some of your Pink Floyd reactions. You seem to appreciate some of the longer cuts and the great musicianship there in. You commented about how there is a lot going on in your headphones and how the songs are like journeys. There is another 70’s band that had that same “what’s going on?” affect on me back in the day when I first heard them. And since you don’t mind experimenting with the longer tracks I’d like to suggest you try the band YES. The title track of their 1972 album Close To The Edge would be a great place to start. You’ll thank me later ✌️
This song is simply a TRIP - OMG / hugs from Brazil. Pink Floyd is just NOT from this world.
Im a massive Floyd fan, Animals is my favourite record of Pink Floyd, Sheep is a classic I love the song to bits. I love the Raving and Drooling version of it though, Waters sounds manic in it. Maybe check it out some time. "Pink Floyd - Raving and Drooling" Its not as polished as Sheep but its just brilliant man
I saw Pink Floyd live at Milwaukee County Stadium, USA Animals Tour in 1977 when I was 17 years old. We were on 3rd base. They had giant floating Animals around the stage and the giant pig balloon exploded with such force that we could feel the heat and concussion way back on 3rd base. Still one of my favorite concert ever and I've been to 100s
At minute 5:00 the gentleman is wondering about sound effects in the background. Man, wait until you hear the laser guns at 9:50. LOL.
Thanks, dude! Richard Wright was genius on those keys.. and then yep... GO... vocal blend to guitar... appreciate your reaction.. PF does take patience to full appreciate... look forward to more....
Anybody notice at 6:17 the "Stone" echo from the song Dogs starts fading in.
Great reaction as always! Animals is a tremendous album. It never got much radio airplay because it's basically three very long songs and a couple of short interludes about different types of people, but it's a masterpiece from start to finish.
The first Pink Floyd album I bought - and then I got busy 😂
The Album cover with the Pink Pig floating above the power plant is real...before it got loose and drifted in to the Heathrow Airport air space. Air traffic control had some interesting conversations with Pilots when they were warned. "There's a floating WHAT?"
Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air
You better watch out
There may be dogs about
I've looked over Jordan and I have seen
Things are not what they seem
What do you get for pretending the danger's not real?
Meek and obedient you follow the leader
Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel
What a surprise
A look of terminal shock in your eyes
Now things are really what they seem
No, this is no bad dream
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by
With bright knives He releaseth my soul
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places
He converteth me to lamb cutlets
For lo, He hath great power and great hunger
When cometh the day we lowly ones
Through quiet reflection and great dedication
Master the art of karate
Lo, we shall rise up
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water
Bleating and babbling we fell on his neck with a scream
Wave upon wave of demented avengers
March cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream
Have you heard the news?
The dogs are dead!
You better stay home
And do as you're told
Get out of the road if you want to grow old
Master the art of Karate!
So glad you finally did Sheep. To me the most amazing part of this song is the slow build up like a wave and then the rogue wave catches you when Roger Waters voice melts and merges with Gilmour's guitar feedback at perfect pitch so they become one. The world this album creates is unlike any other musically I've ever heard. This is one of my favorite PF albums that demands you listen to it in its entirety. The album is a social commentary of how the upper class (dogs) feed on the lower class (sheep). It speaks to the record industry as well sorting out the record executives who know little about music or musicians. No one does it better and I doubt anyone ever will produce and market this type of album with this type of impact and longevity...
great tune, great album!
Echoes!!! You gotta do it Sev!!
Dude you should react to "Fearless". For me one of Pink Floyd's best songs.
This album is a story- you need to hear it from start to finish in order to fully get lyrics. Good old head music that will take you places……
“Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream…..” My favorite rock lyric ever🔥🔥
Saw this tour 77 Chicago soldier field 80k people...best concert I've ever been too.. what an incredible album.. what an experience floating sheep dropped from helicopter..family of pigs floating on stage.. the gigantic pig with red eyes going across the field over the people on the field.. etc
Pink Floyd always puts you in the mood they want you in With their long intros... Try Dogs of war off the momentary lapse of reason album.. Its a dark side of Pink Floyd you have never heard before.
🎉🎉🎉😂🎉🎉🎉🎉about time😅
floating on by lol
Sev sent cha some more $ and a message just now. Hope u got it. Cant wait for this song i sent cha reaction! Keep killin it bro!
Watching you react to Pink Floyd is one of my favourite things.
Id love to see your reaction to "Atom heart mother suite". It has a bit of an "Echoes" vibe to it but its way more 'out there'.
My older brother turned me on to this when I was 15 years old. Blew my mind then and now. I'm 53 years old, lol.😊
Not sure I'd neccesarily agree about the headphones comment
You just need a good stereo and have it loud enough for the neighbors to appreciate it as well👍🤣
👍👍Great performance. 🖖❤
Pink is best heard High.
So sad, David never really liked ANIMALS, so after the Animals Tour he never played a piece of it again.
Roger did, but Davids guitar and Rogers keyboard were always missing.
There's a band that I've been recommending for years now, but to no avail. At a glance, they seem to be nothing like P.F., they're more aggressive, their music is dirtier, more drum and bass oriented and it's often faster. But their progressive use of instruments, and social/political lyrics are branches off the musical trunk that P.F. created. And to a lesser extent, like P.F. they had a large influence on many bands that came after them. The band is Skinny Puppy and I'd recommend Tin Omen as the first song of theirs to check out.
Heard of Snarky Puppy but not Skinny. I’ll have to check it out
@helenespaulding7562 they're one of the Big 4 of first generation Industrial music. Along with Throbbing Gristle, Ministry, and KMFDM. My favorite album of theirs is Rabies, but their most popular album is Too Dark Park.
Yes, headphones are a must, but also Floyd, like a lot of music from this era needs to be listened to in in it's original analog form on vinyl. When the sound wave gets digitized it gets broken down into bars that try to mimic the shape of the sound wave. No matter how many bars and how thin you make them, there will always be a little tiny fraction of the wave missing. I've had all of this music in various formats and none match the sound quality of vinyl played on a really good turntable with a diamond tipped needle.
Critics were disappointed with this release. I have no idea why.
I think this is the most anxious song by them. I would say it’s one of my favorites but what song isn’t?
Anxious?

@@RoadDoug not really, but you’re saying like sheep to the slaughter? Sounds foreboding to me for sure. Fearful even. So yeah…I guess I get anxious.
Hallo Bro.....pink Floyd No words are needed to understand what the best music is😊...But I want to say something...there is more and more chaos all over the world...a guitar artist ..estas tonne - the Song.. fusion (internal flight variation) live in zurich...Plays guitar like from another planet...This comes directly from God and goes into the heart and soul.❤..Every person should hear this masterpiece...maybe wars and violence stops all over the world❤❤❤...this Song 31 min. Don't worry that you had to wait until 2023 to discover Pink Floyd. I'm in my seventies, so you have plenty of time to catch up.
Read "Animal Farm" and find the similarities
Great video! My favorite album from Pink Floyd 🤘 please react something from Porcupine Tree, Anesthetize live version.
I don't know how people can just listen to one song...This album is best appreciated beginning to end, just like most prog...It's like opening up a great book to a random section then putting it down for another random section of another book..AND YOU DON'T NEED HEADPHONES, YOU NEED BIG SPEAKERS AND A GOOD STEREO! Head phones are SO limited in frequency response...
