  • In this episode, I discuss ADHD or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, a diagnosis given to approximately 11% of children in the U.S. The prevalence of ADHD appears to be increasing. I'll talk about:
High Copper & Low Zinc - found in 68% of 5600 children and adults diagnosed with ADHD (by the Walsh Research Institute) and how this can contribute to inattention and hyperactivity
Other potential root causes of inattention and hyperactivity
How these root causes can be evaluated and addressed from a holistic/integrative/functional medicine approach.
    Topics included in this episode:
02:29 A brief history of ADHD.
03:39 Symptoms and treatments of ADHD
09:35 Conditions that frequently occur with ADHD.

How is it possible that such valuable lectures have such a small audience? I am a person diagnosed with ADHD, the diagnosis was made when I was 41, a year ago. Thank you for all this info Dr. Snyder!

Fact: There are WAY more adults with ADHD than children because we do not grow out of it. I don't understand why every discussion about ADHD is all about children. Thank you for including adults! I've been watching your videos dealing with the copper/zinc ratio and it definitely seems that it's something I should look into. Thank you for your content!

I just started taking zinc and it has made a world of difference for my anxiety and ADHD. I wish I knew about this sooner.

Thank you for sharing your experience with that. Not everyone will have that same response - some will have worsening of their symptoms, for example, if there copper is high and they are starting too quickly. This is why we normally are checking levels of both to know how to dose. Thank you again, for commenting.

@@courtneysnydermd-holisticp3072 You know, I really want to check my levels to know the exact dose to use too. Not a lot of providers around me unfortunately,

How long does it generally take to fix the zinc/copper ratio? I understand it depends on the levels of copper toxicity and zinc deficiency but in general how long should people aim for to get results? And are there ways to speed up the removal of copper out of the body apart from bringing zinc up to the optimal levels?

I would say on average it takes about 3 months. Other tools that we use are molybdenum and sometimes MT promoter after assuring zinc is sufficiently high. I think I discuss these in the copper video.

I recommend dosing to people we are treating based on a plasma zinc level (as opposed to the taste test). But, even if you knew that level, I'm only able to make specific treatment recommendations to those I am seeing in treatment.

Hi Ahmed. You're welcome to visit my website, to learn about the consultations that I offer. The optimal ranges that we use (from a Walsh perspective) for zinc, copper and ceruloplasmin are most useful for those who are 4 years old and older. They have not been studied in the same way for children younger than 4. That doesn't mean specific nutrients (and considering other root causes to symptoms), can't be helpful. It means that we don't have the same level of confidence when considering the lab values.

I’ve read that to get the true test results it should be done from a hair analysis that a blood test is not accurate. Blood tests is the usual way but this person was experiencing high copper but was blood tested and was told to low. The person did not take the copper as told but was tested by hair analysis to get the result from the cell which is more accurate. Thank you for any input you can share. To many young people and young adults experiencing anxiety are on these meds for add and adhd.
