      Update: I lowered the car onto a jack stand for safety and stability, and worked in front of the tire, leaving the tie rod attached. To loosen the castle nut I purchased a cheap box end wrench then used a grinder to grind down the lumpy side so it would fit between the cv boot and the top of the ball joint. I used a tie rod separator fork, a small torch, and a big hammer to free the old ball joint, folding it onto itself to clear the metal mud guard. Your video helped greatly, thanks again!

    • @JonnyDIY
      @JonnyDIY  3 роки тому

      Yes, loosen all the bolts on the ball joint you can with tie rod still attached, will make easier. Then loosen tie rod nut and if tie rod stuck in knuckle tap upwards with hammer on that loosened nut (loosened enough to cover bottom threads so you dont damage) to break it from the taper. Think I have a tie rod video on same car if you need to replace those too. Here you go

    The only thing I worry about doing that way - 1) denting inside of where the ball joint taper bolt sits, 2) Not being able to torque that nut. The open end only grabs but at 2 bevels and you end up denting the castle nut, and not sure you get enough torque on there.

      1st make sure tires properly inflated. Then I would take it in for an alignment inspection. Could be many suspension parts causing or could simply be out of alignment. If all the parts look good just get alignment, but no sense in getting an alignment when you'll just have to get another after replacing balljoints, tie rods, struts etc. With 99k miles probably time for new struts
