Leaving the axle nut on at the end of the axle shaft would prevent you from messing up the threads when smacking it with a hammer. Never smack the axle shaft like that unless you’re replacing it.
My local Toyota dealership quoted me $2400 labor to replace the lower ball joints in my 2011 Avalon. The service advisor claimed it was 16 hours. I said, so a tech will be working non stop on these for 2 days? Brings new meaning to the word stealership.
My Toyota dealership does top notch work every time, that being said they take their time and are very pricey..
@@zte331 nah, they just scamming you all that time lol
Shouldn't need to take the axle off.
good job, ! but y did you take the axle nut off/hub? i ve seen a video where they left the axle shaft on, the same way u took it off, pretty confused?
I love how you use regular hand tools. In regular household situations.
Love you 1A Auto.
Please continue you are the light for beginners.
Kudos. You are very informative. It's easy to follow you and your instructions.
She’s awesome and careful. Love it.
Well done video.
I liked your video! When you, at 5:06 , used the hammer to strike the threaded part with no buffer of any sort, I thought you might regret it. Maybe hold an 8-9 inch long piece of 2x4 lumber there, to be between the hammer and the threaded part??? You fixed the bent thread adeptly, starting at 10:45 ,Bravo!
Good idea to put it on neutral I might of left on park. Thanks👍

LOVE THE TRIANGULAR FILE FIX !!!!!!!!! THANKS SUE YOU'RE AWESOME =) CHEERS
Good job عمل رائع
NO, it is a wast of money. Toyota ball joint never fails unless you got an accident.
Great video! Could you get by without having to torque the lower ball nut to specific since you u have a cotter pin in there?
You don’t gotta remove the axle to replace ball joint 😂
Learned two things: 1) the castle nut @92 ft-lb is far beyond what many did with an open wrench; 2) leave gear in neutral when tightening the axial nut. Thank you.

Another thing, you learn that The ball joints is still fine. Toyota original ball joint never fails, they last forever. Literally. only stabilizer links, control arms bushings, struts, and struts mount worn out in Toyota. The ball joint in cars are not heavily loaded and Toyota designs ball joint really well. Made by Koyo/SEIKO. Well-known ball bearings and Watch makers
There’s no need to remove the cv axle nut or tweak the dust shield, just have to pivot the base of the ball joint 90° and it slides in and out.
I like this ball joint design you just take off the bracket holding it without needing to remove the knuckle to press the ball joint out. Honda/Acura should take note.
Nice.
I love this her tender loving care to the cars she maintenance will go over a million miles. And I love the way she talks. I want squeeze hug her. She's pretty damn cute.
No, you're perfect.....
Are you sure of the torque setting of nuts and bolt to control arm? I think it’s 94 ft. Lbs.
Is it possible remove ball joint without removing the CV Axle? Thanks in advance. Thanks for the video.
Yes! Just tighter space but it can be done
Very clear and informative video. Thank you very much

Can I use the old axles nut to screw back on
Hi good afternoon so tha works for lexus is250 2011 front ball join
Good on you the female mechanic. Well done!
+Kunlun Lv Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
I noticed that, too. The person is a good mechanic.
There’s no need to hammer out the cv axle , you can install the new ball joint very easily without having to do that
What smart guy put these rotors on a Camry...
Smh
I want to know regulatory torque.
Also bolts & nuts’s size
Is there any specific reason other than for demonstration purposes that you're replacing this ball joint? It looks like the part was in great condition. I'm honestly concerned with the fact that you destroyed a part that costs almost 2-5x more than the one you put on, and will last significantly lesser.
As an alternative method to torqueing the axel nut, and using the breaker-bar in the wheel studs: run the axel nut down; put the wheel and tire on; lower the car; THEN, torque the axel nut.
You can take off the backing plate to make it easier
Thanks for the feedback! +FoldedNICK
hi 1auto do i need to remove the axle nut for the ball joint replacement??
+Jay Jay Lift and support the vehicle with the jack and jack stands
Remove the wheel
Remove the ball joint cotter pin with the side cutters
Loosen the ball joint castle nut with a 19 mm wrench and a hammer if necessary
Remove the two 17 mm nuts and one 17 mm bolt attaching the ball joint to the lower control arm
Disconnect the ball joint from the lower control arm
Pry the ball joint down with a pickle fork, which could damage the ball joint boot.
Remove the castle nut and remove the ball joint
Remove the spindle nut with the 30mm 12-point socket
Remove the CV axle with a hammer and center punch
A real answer is no. No you do not. Just need a small pry bar and some leverage.
Try doing that when the hub is only 15 inches of the ground.
Can you re-use the old axle nut or do you have to replace it?
+N. C. It is recommended to replace it.
Does the ball joint needs oil or it should have already have it inside?
+Big Dee Our ball joints will already come as being pregreased.
Toyota Ball Joints literally last forever if it never has an accident. Only in some Trucks models or SUV with truck frame, the ball joint need a replacement after a really high mileage. If you replace the original Toyota ball joint with anything else, that yes....., It will fail
If your ball joints look like they do in this video you should N O T replace it.
@@rondhole I'm still trying to figure out why she replaced this one
Why dent the knuckle with a hammer when you could've just use the pickle fork?

How do you know when you need to change it
