The Yamato probably scored multiple citadels on the Musashi by hitting its weakspot in the bow cheeks
it is also MUCH more accurate that Musashi, which could help to explain yamato surviving the encounter
Yeah the Yamato 100% just overmatched the bows of the Musashi and smashed his citadel, because that’s what the Yamato does.
Don't forget Yamato's 46cm guns dont give a damn about 32mm bow armour - so it could have just as easily lolpened the musashi right at the front facing citadel athwartship (and not the cheeks).
That Musashi player is from my previous clan and believe me 90% of those players in that clan have under 45% WR That tells something........
It definitely couldn't have been the destroyer considering the Shima fires a wall of skill and there was no torps trailing past.

The Zao shells are way more than adequate, while they don't have the same pen angles as the USN shells, they have super high pen and are extremely fast. They are really good for sniping cruiser citadels at range.
Edit: also the rpf skill doesn't point directly at the enemy ship. It points towards the map square the enemy ship is in
Edit edit: I'm pretty sure the Musashi at 8:30 just ate citadels through the bow from the Yamato.
but the IJN Shell doesn't have the same Krupp values i think, plus the USN ap angles are crazy (don't quote me on this)
@@andrewduan5123 yea the Zao has normal ap angles and the Krupp aren't up to par with USN, but are by no means bad. Plus, Zao gets destroyer dispersion formula, that's is best in game. Combined with the legendary upgrade you get pinpoint accuracy.
Zao has the highest pen of all 203mm guns - at all ranges.
Literally 50mm more pen than DM and 100mm more than Hindenburg at point blank.
If anything wg lowered the Krupp values since her AP pen is so darn high.
On average engagement ranges - Zao has 30mm more pen than DM and 50mm-60mm than Hinden.
Along with a Destroyer Dispersion graph (making her one of the greatest snipers of cruisers in the whole game).
Indeed, way too many people potato and spam only HE, or take you for one such HE spammer potato, then you use expert loader to swap to AP in the right moment, and blap!
Zao's AP is not great for the shell itself, but for the ballistics, great speed, great accuracy + a 12 gun volley: 2 good AP volleys = enemy cruiser deleted (and you have the upper hand on when and how to engage because of Zao's invisibility cloak)

use this to find the penetration value - proofing Zao has the highest 203mm pen of all cruisers at all ranges in the game.
Compare it to the most formidable 203mm guns such as DM and Hinden's AP.

At 18:50 the Zao's Number 4 turret turns through his hull to get to the wrong side of the ship. Had that happen in my Alabama during a brawl once, and it screwed me.

jingles, at 8:48 or so. when you zoom in on the mushashi. it had just eaten a set of torps. you can barely make out the trails and a couple of the splashes from impacts.

In the Musashi's defense, any Yamato/Musashi mirror fight is pretty much a race to whoever can get the most frontal citadels before the other. You can kind of angle and hope they don't shoot your fore hull at the waterline and overmatch your 32mm armor, but considering how well-known the Yamato/Musashi's "cheek" weakness is (especially to captains of said ships), that's a somewhat vain hope.

I got 2 questions for you
1 - 3:25, the Yugumo stay spotted allthough he is behind an island. Now I know that hydro is up, but would the island not block absorb and return the pulses ?
2 - end game scenario, would it be a good idea to fire the guns just before the spotter plane returns in a 1v1 situation ?
Say, if you fire and do not get spotted, enemy far away. If you fire, get spotted, plane returns, no longer spotted, enemy still far away. If you fire, get spotted, plane returns, still spotted, so the enemy is near. Ot would it entirely be better not to fire ?

2. Better in that situation and in that ship to stay stealthed up as the harugamo didnt have RPF so he had no clue where the zao was meaning the victory was nearly guaranteed at that point

While the rest of the Japanese heavy cruisers have adequate (sometimes even poor) AP, the Zao is not one of them, it is phenomenally good at sniping broadsides long range and it packs one hell of an alpha strike from the 12 guns. It's actually a bit of a shock after the Ibuki
love that his first kill in a Zao is a secondary battery kill. Makes a welcome change.

Jingles i think you´re mistaken about the Des Moines, i watched that part three times and i think he does it on Purpose.
He´s switching to HE every time El Marto shows broadside, and back to AP when hes angled.

Zao AP is actually pretty fantastic Jingles, the velocity of these guns compared to the Des Moines gives them much stronger penetration just not at weird angles.

A non damage HE pen can be explained by it hitting an auxiliary thats not tied to the ships healthpool. I've had this happen to me at least once when I found a 370 something HP DD in a cap, both of the HE shells that penetrated didn't do damage. He detonated me in return (im not running deto flags in randoms, it's free flags if I do get detonated), so needless to say I was slightly annoyed with that :P

9:16 Umm....Jingles just a few seconds earlier you were just guessing an enemy DD did most of the damage...why are you so sure of it now? Well anyway....you'd be wrong. If you look closely at 8:21 right as the camera cuts away you can see the Yamato shoot the Musashi and knock him down to about 35k HP.
8:23 *Actually Jingles* the Yamato lolpens the Musashi from the front and does about 45-50k damage. From 88k hp to 35k hp.
I know what happened to the Musashi (or have a decent idea of what happened to 60+k of his HP); he wasn't nose on. He probably turned just slightly left or right and showed enough cheek for that Yammy to lolpen the Musashi. I've done that a few times. Aim for the Yammy/Musashi's blushing turret cheeks and lolpen away!
So El Marto was probably thinking, "Hey!!!! What happened?!?!?!?", and I can only guess the enemy team was thinking the same thing as they slowly died off.

The 0 damage shot to the Edinburgh must have been to the turrets, the side armour of the Edinburgh's turrets is thin enough for the Zoas HE to penetrate it

5:38, actually jingles you can, see when you get a 0 damage penetrating hit on an enemy warship with armour piercing, it means that you penetrated and damaged a module, this could be anything from the barrel of the gun turret, or a torpedo tube. In the case of high explosive, if you penetrate a section of an enemy ship with high explosive but receive no damage, it can mean one of two things: A, despite it being early in the battle it’s possible that the section of the Edinburgh that the zao hit with he somehow had already crossed the second damage threshold through over saturation, see with over saturation, there are two damage thresholds, when the first damage threshold is crossed all damage dealt to that specific section is halved and a 0.165 damage multiplier is tacked onto all damage that ends up being dealt to that specific part of the ship. After that there is a second damage threshold that can be crossed, which again happens after enough penetration damage is dealt to a specific section of the ship, in this case the bow, when this damage threshold is crossed, any further attempts to cause penetration damage to that specific section of the ship, the bow in this case, will be automatically reduced to 0 damage; however it’s highly unusual if not impossible for a specific section of a ship, let a lone a crusier to have crossed this second damage threshold in terms of damage to one of its sections, the bow in this case, especially when it’s this early in the match, and with how much health the Edinburgh had remaining, so it’s probably more likely that the zao s single he penetration damaged one of the two forward gun mounts on Edinburgh or less likely, damaged one of the torpedo tubes on Edinburgh on the mid section of the ship some, that’s my best guess though.
Zaos also fire longer distance than Des Moines, at least in my experience.

Jingles, the Zao has some of the best cruiser AP shells. They are more than servisable.
I have saved my repair for multiple fires and was immediately lit back on fire with 3 fires. Fire is over powered in this game.

I think when battleship players use damage control on a single fire, they believe as I did when starting out.... "fires on board ship can be very troublesome." While I was in the Navy, that was a big thing, put out the fires!! Especially for a carrier. Remember the USS FORESTALL fire?
However, the mighty jingles has taught me, in the gaming reality, you can confidently stand fast on the first fire.

Musashi being a Yamato tier IX copy also has its weaknesses one being that flat frontal citadel bulkhead under turret 2 making ''go under an angle'' almost imposible for both ships and instead you have to go nose in... unfortunetly a yamato can overmatch another yamato trough the nose so my guess is he eat triple citadel trough nose or got shot trough that weak spot under the turret for 60k dmg XD or my personal favorite another bb shot his broadside from other side of the map 20km+... with plunging fire and a lot ... A LOT of luck you can get some decent dmg

Jingles, I invite you to grind for your Zao. That AP is much better than just "adequate"... Many people forget this and just spam HE, or expect you to just spam HE, then you blap them with AP, Expert Loader is a really nice skill for the Zao...

man don't underestimate the AP on the Zao, i've caught meany-a-cruisers out with AP landing 4+ cits in some salvo's...only annoying thing about the Zao is it's small HP...but she's still my fave t10 cruiser
