    I was the CV player on this game, it was difficult spotting in a tier 7 against tier 9 BB's and CC's. Especially with the enemy CV having so many fighter squadrons compared to my one. It didn't help that the bloody Missouri wasn't playing and then the Bismark flounced off. Still enjoyable having my first mention on jingles and flamboo's channel.

    Anyone else rewatching this after Zulu2scroot managed to be featured again?
    Edit: I love that he's complaining about pink players but is missing the point that he is 50% of his teams pink players. He also seems to be unaware that you don't see enemy pink players. (Or am I mistaken?)

    The video is even more funny if you're German or at least understand the language :D The whole cursing and complaining of the friendly Bismarck is embarrasing and hillarious at the same time ;)
    So to sum it up for our english-speaking friends:
    - First he says, the porgramers are gay because they love pink (and of course he is pink at this moment), are screwing him over and everyone should pass that on. The reason: There's no pink ship on the enemy side.
    - Then he says, one should immediately stop playing the game or complain due to discrimination (You know, two pink ships on his side, none on the enemy side) tot he game attendance. And yes, only a German could come up with a agency like a "game attendance". Until that the programmers are, of course, gay ... or, now he recognizes the women in the team, lesbian.
    - After this he curses about his 380 mm guns doing no damage, and decides at 7:53 to go away because of that. But before he goes, he has to call somebody (enemies, wargaming, everyone, idk) mean suckers :D This becomes even more funny if you hear what Jingles is saying at about 11:00, because the Bismarck has most likely been afk for about 3 minutes at this (If you look at his straight driving in this time, it's likely). Of course it was no fair fight, because the Captain of the Bismarck just wasn't there.
    A little bonus for all Germans watching the video :D

    • @General_Cartman_Lee
      @General_Cartman_Lee 6 років тому +47

      It gets even more funny when you look up his stats.
      4000 battles, 43.7% win rate, 472 average XP.
      And 26K average damage in the Bismarck. By pressing W in a secondary specced Bismarck you will do more damage per battle.
      My worst nightmare in WoWS are German players in German battleships.
      You just need to look at the German forum section, not a single day without some BB Kevin complaining about DDs being OP, CVs being OP, fire being OP, Russian ships being OP.
      Oh, and stats don't matter, they only play for fun. None of them could explain me since the launch of WoT how losing 60% of your games while having done nothing is fun.

    An answer to question "what was Japan thinking?" is: It's either war, or economical collapse.
    Japanese stratefy was simple. They had to obtain resources to sustain its grasp as a significant power over the Western Pacific and China. The position they obtained in worlds view during the 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese war, by defeating the most powerfull army of that time, the Russian Empire Army (and Navy, eliminating both: the Russian Pacific fleet and Baltic fleet). The problem was, Japan didnt have enough resources on its own ground, and China and all of the Western Pacific was carved between colonial empires, like Great Britain, Netherlands, Germany (untill the treaty in 1918) and USA (obtained by defeating the Spain). The war over the Pacific was imminent, and everybody expected it long before WWII. And the only thing they could do after 1939 and Germany's victories over Europe (so eliminating France, and keeping Brits on their toes in Europe) was to eliminate USA and obtain resources from Indochina by force, after USA, Netherlands and GB cut the trade with Japan (as it was an ally of Third Reich).
    The thing was: They knew from the start they are not able to win a long war. They didnt have the industrial capacity. The Japanese navy doctrine was therefore: Build capital ships that will be able to win a fight with at least 2 other enemy vessels at a time. So quality over quantity.
    Yamamoto said, that if Japan wants to rule over PAcific, they have to eliminate USA from the equation in 6 months. After that, the success was impossible. He wasnt wrong. He knew the war is lost after IJN failed to sink US Carriers in PEarl Harbor.
    Funny fact:
    When Chiang Kai-shek, the leader of Kuomintang (nationalist movement in China) heard a radio broadcast about Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor, he stood up, light a cigarette and told his wife: "Honey, please play "Ave Maria". Cause he knew, whats going to happen.
    Of course this is a very simplified version ^^.

    • @kestralblue1559
      @kestralblue1559 6 років тому +9

      GRonth GrOnth there was a third option which was comply with US demands or appease them. Pride prevented them considering it, but it wasn't just a choice between war and collapse.

    • @elijakubowicz9143
      @elijakubowicz9143 6 років тому +2

      if the american aircraft carriers where on pearl harbor when the japanese attacked-as they expected-they could of done much more damage to the american navy and make it much easier for then to take over the pacific ocean. that was their plan.

    • @gronthgronth2628
      @gronthgronth2628 6 років тому +5

      complying with US demands would mean reverting to situation from before Japanese expansion. Which would mean a social unrest and even quicker economical collapse cause Japan wouldnt be able to afford its army an navy. It would also mean that Japan would accept its role as a de facto being under US indluence. It never was a real option.

    • @iseeyou1312
      @iseeyou1312 6 років тому +6

      Wrong. Japan believed the US would declare war on them if they invaded British Indochina, so they decidedly to strike preemptively in an attempt to stop the US from retaliating. What Japan didn't know is that the US were not prepared to go to war over Britain's dominions, thus the entire Pearl Harbour attack was entirely unnecessary.

    • @andreassjoberg3145
      @andreassjoberg3145 6 років тому +4

      All they had to do to actually WIN that war, was if they had burned the oil and left the boats in Pearl Harbour. USA would have killed itself trying to keep its navy going with no oilreserves in place, and no depots. Quite probably Japan could have negotiated a peace with USA if they had managed a surgical strike on the oil-depots without a massive loss of lives.

      How did you feel after that match btw (you don't have to answer if you don't want to)? Also, have you ever played as a CV ( I honestly don't know), and if you have, have you ever gotten the permanent Shift key bug while playing as a CV? I lost a Killer Whale operation match because of that bug. I at least got some compensation next match, where I did 145k dmg.

Nowadays, I only play CVs in scenarios, so my poor Shokaku just sits in my port, waiting to go sailing again. I probably should give the old girl a go sometime soon.

      teamstr259 And the kicker is that Yamamoto threatened to quit if he didn’t get his master plan carried out. One that was _guaranteed_ to piss America off to the point where they wouldn’t stop until Tokyo was ashes. He knew better and went for it anyway. That is the height of idiocy, right there.

    • @Mass_hole508

      Jimmy Seaver Makes me wonder how different things could've been. If the carriers had been in pearl like they planned. Things would've been extremely difficult. Im not saying we would've lost. Most definitely would've changed everything.

    • @wingsofwrath4647
      @wingsofwrath4647 6 років тому +42

      Jimmy Seaver Umm... what are you talking about? Yamamoto was pretty much AGAINST war with the US, but he was fighting an uphill battle against a very militarist government.
      He knew exactly that Japan's chances of winning were slim to non-existent, which is why he famously said that (i'm paraphrasing here) "the only way Japan could win this war would be if we march to Washington and dictate terms in the White House, I wonder if our politicians have confidence that is going to happen".
      When the militarist faction overruled him, he came up with the attack on Pearl Harbor as the only strategy he could think of to stave off outright defeat (the militarist faction wanted to "whittle down" the US Fleet as it approached Japan and then finish it off in a climatic battle, a plan which is utterly bonkers) and even so he caution that it would only buy Japan 6-12 months of restpite before the US war machine got into gear.
      And yes, he threatened to resign, but only because he knew the choice was between the time bought by his plan and straight up defeat.
      It must be heart wrenching to be the ONE sane man in the Japanese high command before WW2, see the inevitable outcome of a bunch of idiots declaring war on your behalf and yet be powerless to stop it...

    • @Nyctasia
      @Nyctasia 6 років тому +6

      Only delayed things by about 6 months. As soon as the Essex class start turning up it is all over no matter what, and the US war effort was wasteful as it was, going for both the island route as well as the Philippines (mostly to appease McArthur), a single route was possible with less resources and had been planned for since about 1905 in one form or other, and extensively since 1920 with the Rainbow Plan series.

    During the war, the IJN had, at most, 11 carriers, 12 battleships, 18 heavy cruisers, 20 light cruisers, and 81 destroyers.
    Mind you, this doesn't account for the different "peaks" of these classes happening at different times.

  • @warhawk9566
    @warhawk9566 6 років тому +13

    Sorry but on the "What was Japan thinking?" They were thinking they were gonna get off a series of devastating strikes, cripple American morale and the war would be over in 6 months not 3 and a half years. The idea of the pearl harbor attack was to cripple the US navy's pacific fleet and the harbor itself so that even if the US built a counterattack within those six months they wouldn't have Pearl harbor as a forward base. However the attack was not carried out according to plan, Nagumo retreated before launching the third wave which was intended to cripple the harbor itself. If they had done that, the resulting conquest of US territories and a victory at midway and the Japanese could have possibly damaged US morale enough for the US to agree to a peace treaty. Which was basically how Japan wanted this war to go.

In fact, he steered the Bismark right into the next enemy bunch and then refused to fire his main battieries (the shots we see are from the secondaries). Understand that things happen and the need to AFK sometimes. At this point WGing could easily replace these AFKs with AI ships after a set amount of time. We have seen the math from previous videos that a team is down 1 player is at a huge disavantage, and has a much greater chance of a loss.

      Pickle P that would actually be a good idea. If no controls are touched for like 1 minute or 30 seconds or something, it becomes an AI ship. Though maybe it should be made so it is impossible to earn a profit, or xp else people can just exploit.

Admiral Yamamota tried to warn the Imperial Japanese High Command about attacking the United States, but it was for naught. He knew about the industrial capabilities of the United States. Keep up the good work, Jingles.

    Per your discussion in the beginning, that was the entire point of Pearl Harbor. The Japanese wanted to deal the knockout blow before the US industry could grind into gear. Problem is, A: they didn't get the carriers. B: They didn't launch the third wave, which would have hit the incredibly vital fleet tenders. Maybe if they did those two objectives they could have completely crippled the pacific fleet and had free reign for the crucial first year or two of the war, but they didn't. Yamamoto's quote about the sleeping giant shows his dawning realization that they didn't get enough done.

    for those who don't know, the Admiral Yamamoto actually opposed to the plan of attacking Pearl Harbor. He was a Harvard student and while he was there he observes the US industrial prowess while travelling across America (#summerRoadTrip). his defense is there is no way Japan could match the US industrial power even in peacetime

    The problem with the attack on Pearl Harbor is that it wasn't supposed to be just an attack. It was originally conceived and meant to be a two pronged plan: Attack and destroy the American armor which was mostly bulked together at pearl, which HAD TO INCLUDE the carriers, and a follow up invasion and occupation of the Hawaiian islands. Without Pearl to stage from, the US would have been at a huge strategic disadvantage in the early war. The carriers were not at port when the attack happened so the plan was halted and Japan couldn't regroup and supply before Midway happened. This being said, Jingles said it well, Japan just couldn't compete with the industrial might and output of the US in terms of arms building. Yea, Japan could build some quality armor, but we made up for that in numbers. As a metric, Japan commissioned only 2 battleships during the war (Yamatos sister ship Shinano was turned into a carrier half way through) while the US commissioned 10 Battleships during the war.

    Many top brass in Japan KNEW they could never prevail against the industrial might of the US, being a natural resources poor country. They had intended to deal a big blow and then negotiate a peace favorable for them. In the initial phases of WWII it certainly worked, but to my knowledge they never even attempted to negotiate peace?
    But even some of the top admirals warned against attacking the US. Yamamoto studied in the US, in Harward, and he knew Japan could never beat the US in a prolonged war.

    To be fair to the Japanese, Admiral Yamamoto opposed picking a fight with America because he knew what he'd be up against. But his government bosses were convinced of their own superiority; they'd beaten everyone else, and they could handle this sleepy overseas power with its (then) outdated planes and battleships. Once he got his orders from on high, all Yamamoto could do was give it his best shot.

      They hadn't "beaten everyone else". They'd beaten Russia in Japan's backyard, and they were locked in a bloody war of attrition with China. I suppose you could also say that they beat Korea and Vietnam, but that wasn't really saying anything back then. Hell, in a border skirmish in the 30s, Russia kicked Japan's ass so hard that Japan swore off of war against Russia no matter the circumstances.
