      Hey Shawn.
On measuring using your foot length is a great idea but, what happens if your foot is shorter or longer than a size 12 which you'd hope is "1 true foot" worth of length.
      I have a size 15 & yes, it's a true 15 inches in length.
If I do what you did & count out 6 steps, I'm actually going to be over by 18 inches or so.
I know my height is 6 feet, 3 inches, so, in a way, I don't mind having extra length, but that's me.
I can ( to a point) measure out perfectly a 6 feet, 3 inch length without a tape measure, but, it is only up to a certain point.
It may be nit picking, but I think an important thing is to really get used to a tape measured measurement & then, after this, dropping the tape measurer to see just how accurate something could be made without 1.
      I'm hoping 1 day you'll address this

@@eventsotherthingswithchris9019 Dude you can't take everything as exact what he does. These are informational/instructional videos. There is an implied "common sense' that should take over and you should know what works for you. I am 6"1" and I know that I have a smaller foot knowing I have to use 7 foot steps to create a small over hang. He is conveying how many he needs. He NEVER proclaimed you must use 6 and only 6 foot lengths. C'Mon bro cut him some slack. His videos would be an hour + if he literally had to spell everything out.....

Corporal… my job brings a lot of negativity. There seems to be an unending line of people who want to complain, but there are some that are positive. I have to focus on them. I am in the 40th year of doing what I do. It is hard when you pour you life into something only to have someone complain about it. I watch these videos every Sunday evening. They are GOLD to me. They are my refuge. I learn from you. I hope you can focus on the thousands of people who watch you…religiously. You are good…excellent…at what you do.

Hi, Corporal - don’t you just love all the armchair quarterbacks of survival camping? Honestly, I wouldn’t let those naysayers get under your skin. Ignore them. They’re just jealous of you and what you’ve accomplished. As for me, this 74 y/o camping grandma loves learning from you so I can keep myself and my family members safe while enjoying our private camping property. Above all, thank you for educating everyone on how to stay informed in a crisis situation one may find oneself in somewhere down the road. I never miss an episode you drop, be it mid-week or on Sundays. Finally managed to snap up one of your zip hoodies the other day and, while I could only order a Large instead of Medium, I will make it work for my little frame. Really liked today’s video. Keep ‘em coming, Sir. Stay safe!

Your set-up makes very good sense. However, because I am in my 80s, I am physically unable to move logs of that size; INSTEAD, I would use a heavy duty military-type Space Blanket to BLOCK the wind & REFLECT the heat from the fire! My browse bed would also be enclosed in my poncho or equivalent. Would you consider doing a similar video for OLDER FOLKS whose physical abilities are limited? I continue to learn from your videos & innovative ways for improving my Old School habits. Much of the gear, which you are making available to your viewers, is the gear with which I grew-up in the 1940s & 1950s. Thanks for all that you do to continue providing excellent instruction. This Old Preacher watches them "Religiously!" 'Blessings on you & yours!

My good buddy i worked with him for years doing concrete foundations, we went on backpacking trips all over north Idaho, fishing, hunting, so on. He told me 90% of the guys that talk to you, talking to me, have never spent as much time in the woods as we have in a summer or winter trip, let alone thier entire lives.
So most the giys that talk crap to you, not only haven't spent the same time as you in the woods they also dont know what the fk they are talking about. Have a great rest of your Sunday another great video as always!!

I'm a 70 year old women with a bad hip that probably should be replaced. Anyway you have taught me things so that I feel confident that there are thing that I can do to help myself. Even though i may not be able to do everything, i know what the end ptoject looks like and i can adapt my abilities to make something work. I can start a fire and have aquired the necessary materials and know how close to my bed it should be. I can make a shelter and tie the knots 😊to keep the elements off of me. In short with your teachings i can survive. It may not look pretty but i can do it. Thank you.

"Thinking things through". Truer words were never spoken. When out wilderness camping I've been called, "old fashioned", "fastidious", and "anal retentive", for thinking things through. But, I've been warm and dry when my camping colleagues have had a miserable nights wet sleep. I remember one of them on a cold wet morning was trying to heat his coffee in a metal cup with his Bic lighter and then cussing and swearing when his Bic ran out of juice and his coffee was still cold. Excellent video.

I really wish your overnighter playlist was organized from oldest to newest. I'd hit play all and let it run all the way through like a Netflix series. I'm sure a lot of people would. Been watching for years now man and I'd rewatch them all if they were in order. Again, I'm sure a lot of people would and that would be more views on every single overnighter upload over, what, the last 10 years or so.
PS: Lot of channels start as legit survival style... Then just swap to "survival" tags when it's nothing more than catching a fish catch and cook camp with 5 grand in gadgets. You've never changed your style, props for that.

Honestly Cpl, you're on so much of another level compared to any detractors that you have, to the point that you're probably doing them a favor by calling them out. Your material doesn't need any justification or defense. It stands on its own as obviously informative and high quality. To even acknowledge the lower tier people that try to "correct" you is to give them undue attention. Somebody coming after you is about like some 3rd tier rapper putting out a diss track on Eminem. The 3rd tier guy is *praying* that Eminem responds, no matter how savage the response because it's still attention from somebody who already *has* a reputation.

The next day a 2nd or 3rd wall could be added, longer posts to support a tarp roof.....whcih over time could become a more sturdy roof, and so on.

I like this setup. I like having a wall behind the fire as well so it reflects the heat towards the bed. Good content. Keep positive.

I just want to say that I appreciate everything you do in the videos. Most people learn from repetition, and you do a great job with your go to knots on that. You cover the basics in repetition and if someone watches on a regular basis and they still don't know what to do then I would say they are probably the exception or that they have some sort of extenuating circumstance. Great job as always.

WOW man...that ALL seems pretty ELABORATE!!! I mean, that "poncho top mattress", you ONLY find those in the finest 4 star motels. And that hawg meat you're rendering out to cook those cackelberrys in...now that's fine QUISENE!!! And what about that ELABORATE rim that you construced around the fire...fancy man, F-A-N-C-Y!!! you've just gone "uptown glamorous" on all of us dirt-grubbin' Troglodites that wait IMpatiently for your videos! (all kidding aside, good job Shawn. Your videos give EVERYONE, no matter their skill level good, basic instruction on how to start bushcrafting/survival.) Hope this post brought a smile to your face...'til next time (Mike)

As always, another great video! I have watched your campsite builds for going on three years and I have enjoyed everyone of them! I like the skillet pan metal that you did that that looked awesome. I didn’t get a chance to comment on your midweek video, keep up the good work, corporal.

Good information, good video. Went back to rewatch some of your older videos and noticed you looked a lot happier. The specific one was from 3 years ago. Hope everything is going okay. One suggestion, don't think about the haters too much. There will always be a few, you can't please everyone. The rest of us are loving it! Keep up the good work. Bacon and Arbor Knots Forever!

Back to basics , love it ! Expectation is to be comfortable for the night , but , if need be , you could improve the shelter for a longer stay . You need to have some basic gear , you also need to know how to use it . Always some useful tips on your channel . Thanks 👍👍
