Love this video Tim. I may never be able to afford to visit and stay here but this video makes me feel like I have experienced what it is like to visit and stay. Thank you very much.
This was such a revealing look at a world most of us won’t experience. You captured the beauty of the area, ridiculousness of the prices and the posh world of the ultra rich in one video. Some of those shop keepers were definitely giving you the “Pretty Woman Rodeo Drive” treatment. You handled that with a lot of grace. The hotel was so beautiful. One of the nicest ones in terms of classy exteriors and furnishings I’ve seen. Your room looked less like a hotel room and more like a small cozy apartment with a spectacular view. Although that tub with stairs looks like an accident waiting to happen. 😮 I thought the price for the bridge walk was pretty reasonable. Most tourist attraction prices have increased significantly over the last couple of years. Superb video Tim. Glad you were able to stay two nights. That really added time for you to fully explore the area. Excellent!
Good video but a few points: 1. The alpine running water comes straight from the alps with no intermediary so it tastes sweet 2. The ‘cave’ you mentioned isn’t pronounced kave but karve. It’s where wine is stored in French homes 3. The reason for the cafe being called ‘Charlie’ is by virtue of Charlie Chaplin living there back in the day 4. Roger Moore used to live in Gstaad and his children were privately schooled at the school you mentioned 5. Lots of Hollywood stars had home there including Peter Sellars There you go mate!
I'd maybe add or question... 1. In this area of Switzerland and France (Vaud, Geneve) there's running fountains of eau poutable everywhere, and I'm not sure it's anything to do with the mountains. And 2 ... my French is shameful, but I'd suggest there's no R sound (karve) in cave - but simply the phoneme changes according to French (it's a short A sound) versus English (a long A sound due to the word ending with a constant and E). However, the word almost remains the same, as this concept of a basement/wine cellar almost mirrors the cold dark of an English cave (in a mountain) .... Otherwise, I'd say the regions are full of private schools, old fashion finishing schools etc. Twenty years ago in Geneve I think 'regular' private school for expatriats was in the ten of thousands of francs (chf) and that was just for the busing Lol...
What I found most interesting was from the time you walked into the hotel how warm and inviting the ambience was. It was just perfect to relax in a great hotel with a beautiful view.
Thank you Tim for a wonderful trip you've taken us on. Being from Canada, I've been to Whistler and Banff Skiing and stayed at the resorts there but Gstaad has to be one of the most beautiful towns in the world. I've added it to my bucket list (in my dreams). I agree with your other followers that you are the best commentator on you tube. Wishing you, Gabby, Casper a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
Great location! I believe why some shops - especially high end - don't allow filming is because it's seen as a security issue, showing where their cameras and most expensive items are located. Makes a thieves job easier
In general one can drink water from any fountain in Switzerland. If it's not drinking water it will be stated clearly.. So it's not just a thing in Gstaad.
I don't know why but UA-cam randomly recommend this video to me and I loved it, what a magical place😍🥰 And with that, you gained a new subscriber. Thank you for the effort to film this video Tim, great job!❤🙏🏼
Actually I had a second unbelievable anecdote during my stay in Gstaad for a scientific congress: one day I went to the skiing domain, I saw a rich sheikh trying to learn skiing by himself, and he was surrounded by 2 body guards. The most impressive thing was that I noticed that the 2 guys had not skis...and indeed they had to go up by foot without using the ski lift, and had to run down behind their guy - amazing, what a physical condition, but hilarious too !!!
@ funny, but it's a safety issue - try to bodyguard someone with skis, and these guys have not the skills anyhow - this was on the beginner slope but still exhausting to go up 100 m.
Sounds about right seen similar scenarios in the middle East (obvs not on skis) but don't be deluded a lot of the time they treat their servants and staff not very nice, my friend was an English teacher in Dubai at a private school she said the rich kids parents were dreadful blamed the teachers if their kids were not doing well
Wow that is beautiful, love the bath and the bed. The restaurant and decor was amazing. I went to Switzerland a few years back and it’s breathtaking.. the Mountain trip was brilliant. Thanks Tim 😊
i was so tired last night that i only made it up to your capuccino, and fell asleep. im back for another attempt tonight as ive not had to work as much 😂😂😂
That's an absolutely beautiful place. It's like a storybook. If you had been wearing those slipper shoes, the hat, the nice little watch and carrying that bottle of cognac, you might not have looked so suspicious strolling around. Thanks for taking us on such a nice Christmas tour. Wish I was there in real life. Merry Christmas, everyone 🎄 🎅 ⛄️
LOL Tim I have that same issue, about the weather not being what it is known for if I am around. My husband and I stayed in a cabin for a month in Lake George New York. We stayed the whole month of December. That area of upstate NY is known for having a lot of snow in December. I am from the South and I always wanted to have a white Christmas or just to see a real snowfall. I used to get excited when they would announce the chance of a Occasional snow flurry. lol so here we are in this cabin, it’s very cozy with 3 bedrooms and a super large kitchen, I am watching the weather constantly like a dumb butt, the man that owns the cabin has his snow plow truck all ready to go, as you could probably guess, it never snowed the whole time we were there, which according to the locals is extremely rare. No white Christmas that year. Sorry people I bring the heat with me when I go anywhere.
Brilliant, I am literally in Finland now as wanted a white Christmas. There is lots of snow however temps not the usual -20c and hovering just below freezing.
I finally get to see the place mentioned in the 1980's Eddy Murphy film, Trading Places. When Dan Ackroyd was trying to pawn his super expensive watch he was mentioning all the different places it kept time. I had heard of all of them except Gstaad. I always wondered about this place for decades lol.
Watched a few of these videos now. What I enjoy about this guy's is the lack of 'airs and graces'. It makes them somehow more honest and real. Much easier for me to imagine treating myself while also avoiding those that in reality not as great as one imagines.
I really dislike status symbols and shows of how wealthy someone is, so even if I had the money, I wouldn't bother with those shops. I'm not impressed by Prada or Louis Vuitton or any of the other designer names as it all seems so false. However, the scenery and hotel are undeniably beautiful. Great video once again Tim.
@@annecaunce Those are brands aimed at the middle class. In this video he walked past Brunello Cucinelli store. These clothes are incredibly expensive and well made, they also have NO logo. If you saw someone wearing them, you wouldn’t even know Generally people who enjoy luxury will also love cashmere and tailored garments.
It’s the €100k bottle of brandy that makes my jaw go slack. What sort of premium taste could there possibly be, over a really good quality cognac you can buy for €100, to justify that ridiculous amount of money.
@@gerardmackay8909 I would be scared to go to one of these places in case I end up stumbling and breaking a £80k piece of jewellery / bottle of liquor. Or possibly purchasing a £2,000 chocolate treat by accident, which seems like the kind of thing that could happen very easily.
Thank you so much for showing us this utterly fine town.. I think that it is by far the very best place you have been to.. Such class everywhere .. Such heritage that is reflected everywhere. The hotel suite is superb with all rhe fine interior details .. Well.. Thank you. ...This town maintained its particular culture and heritage in all different ways..
I am in a lot of hotels alone.. so I always have a lot of trouble at breakfasts.. As soon as I leave my table to pop to the buffet, my tables is completely cleared, and in some cases , when I return someone as been seated at my table by the staff.
In the classier hotels/restaurants, especially Europe, don't put your fork and knife on the sides of your plate. Instead, make a cross with them on top of the plate, and staff would know you're not finished.
Yes. I would stay there and I actually don't think it's an outrageous price considering the room and service. Glad you did the Glacier 3000 as I'm not sure I could and the wife definitely couldn't/wouldn't. Really liked this one Tim, many thanks.
Your video was very well-made, and you were absolutely right to go there just before the start of the winter season (there are fewer people to get in the way of your filming). And in your video, the views of the Alps were just breathtaking. It was an excellent advert for the hotel (if you don't mind the stiff prices).
Switzerland has great plus points: not crowded, because expensive. You actually get something for your money. Great food and produce quality, focused on regionality. Best hotels worldwide! Most beautiful nature. Tim, I am so sorry. Four days after you left, it snowed. It’s winter wonderland right now. ❄️

This is a real treat. Thanks Tim. It is wonderful to experience luxury without spending a dime. I am not into having "stuff" but it is fun to see what can be acquired if one had the funds. I have been to Switzerland and found it a beautiful, lovely, everything is perfection, .... an immaculate country, the only drawback is the snottiness of the locals or wait staff breathing down your neck.
I thought the price for the bridge walk was pretty reasonable. Most tourist attraction prices have increased significantly over the last couple of years.
Superb video Tim. Glad you were able to stay two nights. That really added time for you to fully explore the area. Excellent!
First class video all around Tim. Starting with the count down to the very end. I very much enjoyed it. Thank you
and Happy holidays 🎄
WOW! Stunning. It is like a film set where you expect James Bond to run past!! It is beautiful.
Roger Moore lived there...
@@Thomas-i3s oh my goodness He had very good taste! It is so lovelyx
Haha I thought that when seeing the alps. ❤
Dumb and dumber imo
@@VampExpress Roger Moore was often at the Gstaad Palace❤
I was getting vertigo just watching that bridge walk...wow😊
Good video but a few points:
1. The alpine running water comes straight from the alps with no intermediary so it tastes sweet
2. The ‘cave’ you mentioned isn’t pronounced kave but karve. It’s where wine is stored in French homes
3. The reason for the cafe being called ‘Charlie’ is by virtue of Charlie Chaplin living there back in the day
4. Roger Moore used to live in Gstaad and his children were privately schooled at the school you mentioned
5. Lots of Hollywood stars had home there including Peter Sellars
There you go mate!
Thanks for giving us the info. 👍
I'd maybe add or question...
1. In this area of Switzerland and France (Vaud, Geneve) there's running fountains of eau poutable everywhere, and I'm not sure it's anything to do with the mountains. And
2 ... my French is shameful, but I'd suggest there's no R sound (karve) in cave - but simply the phoneme changes according to French (it's a short A sound) versus English (a long A sound due to the word ending with a constant and E). However, the word almost remains the same, as this concept of a basement/wine cellar almost mirrors the cold dark of an English cave (in a mountain)
.... Otherwise, I'd say the regions are full of private schools, old fashion finishing schools etc. Twenty years ago in Geneve I think 'regular' private school for expatriats was in the ten of thousands of francs (chf) and that was just for the busing Lol...
Wondering if there is a lot of Russian oligarch?
@ There will now I’m sure
Julie Andrews and husband Blake Edwards too!
What I found most interesting was from the time you walked into the hotel how warm and inviting the ambience was. It was just perfect to relax in a great hotel with a beautiful view.
everyone in full winter gear ,hats , gloves, boots and there's tim in his every day coat and jaans , lols great video 🥰
i know it was 6 oc! i even felt to warm ;-)
@@WalkWithMeTim fair play , made of tough stuff is our tim 🥰
Smash and grab thefts are a serious problem everywhere, so to make it harder on thieves, goods are often moved around and filming prohibited.
The weather was definitely perfect for your excursion Tim. What an experience. Wow
Merry Christmas, buddy. Hope you and the family have a good one. 🎄🎄🤶🤶
Thanks Dazz , hope you had a great Christmas
In general one can drink water from any fountain in Switzerland. If it's not drinking water it will be stated clearly.. So it's not just a thing in Gstaad.
Confirmed and approved!
But not from the basin 😂 you are supposed to drink from the fountain itself. BTW a concept around many southern European countries like here in Italy
@@io_sono_benni haha yes, I think that goes without saying! Happy New Year.
No heated bathroom floors?? Wow - for that level of hotel. Everything else looks fantastic! 😀
*Heated Floors are actually dangerous...*
I don't know why but UA-cam randomly recommend this video to me and I loved it, what a magical place😍🥰
And with that, you gained a new subscriber.
The most impressive thing was that I noticed that the 2 guys had not skis...and indeed they had to go up by foot without using the ski lift, and had to run down behind their guy - amazing, what a physical condition, but hilarious too !!!
poor sheikh can't afford two more sets of ski's
This is so beautiful, quiet and serene. I wish I lived here!! Happy holidays Tim and to everyone reading!! 😊
Happy Holidays!!!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
What a stunning town, soo magical with the Christmas decorations, the hotel room was lovely too. 🥰🥰
Beautiful ... I can only afford to visit it on youtube. Thanks for showing this place.
i was so tired last night that i only made it up to your capuccino, and fell asleep. im back for another attempt tonight as ive not had to work as much 😂😂😂
Switzerland is simply exquisite. Great vid, Tim
And VERY expensive
Home of the Devil
I used to get excited when they would announce the chance of a
Occasional snow flurry. lol so here we are in this cabin, it’s very cozy with 3 bedrooms and a super large
kitchen, I am watching the weather constantly like a dumb butt, the man that owns the cabin has his snow plow truck all ready to go, as you could probably guess, it never snowed the whole time we were there, which according to the locals is extremely rare.
Thanks for the film Tim, such a beautiful place! I know I’ll never go but your video is the next best thing x
You never know, maybe you will 😊
I don't think I've seen a nicer room so far with you, Tim. It's beautiful
Yes agree 👍
Aint gonna lie, I'd be afraid I'd break something. Have a Happy Christmas dear Tim & fam.
Wow what an amazing hotel absolutely breathtaking views loved the shops - the town reminded me of an old Heidi film! - thank you Tim amazing video 😁🥳
Watched a few of these videos now. What I enjoy about this guy's is the lack of 'airs and graces'. It makes them somehow more honest and real. Much easier for me to imagine treating myself while also avoiding those that in reality not as great as one imagines.
That hot chocolate moment with the eclair and the fireplace crackling was really nice 😊 and the holiday decorations too! I would have been in heaven!
If you saw someone wearing them, you wouldn’t even know
Generally people who enjoy luxury will also love cashmere and tailored garments.
@@ShotsMerkzAll True
Totally agree with you on this
It’s the €100k bottle of brandy that makes my jaw go slack.
Amazing! Thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas to you and your family ❤
The views are amazing! this content inspires me to travel. keep on posting brother!!👍
Try taking a bag or coat with you and leave on seat when you go to buffet, usually works.
@@jeremybuck1818 That's what I do, always leave something behind e.g. glasses or a book
Yes. I would stay there and I actually don't think it's an outrageous price considering the room and service. Glad you did the Glacier 3000 as I'm not sure I could and the wife definitely couldn't/wouldn't. Really liked this one Tim, many thanks.
Thanks for the walking tour Tim. Able to enjoy the most expensive town in the world from my living room in the midlands because of you!
Your video was very well-made, and you were absolutely right to go there just before the start of the winter season (there are fewer people to get in the way of your filming). And in your video, the views of the Alps were just breathtaking. It was an excellent advert for the hotel (if you don't mind the stiff prices).
This was a FABULOUS TRIP and THANK YOU for making it like your really there! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 🎉❣️
Absolutely gorgeous! Impeccable taste in decor. 😍
The swimming pool with the bar looks like it should be in a Bond movie! What an incredible place 😍
Wow what a fabulous place....that's one of your best vlogs to date Tim.
Merry Christmas everyone
Thank you! Back at you!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎉🎉🎉!
Are there rich, apolitical russian tourists as in other luxury places around the world?
@@Foreignmonk34 absolutely

Tim , just want to say i am a new subscriber and i love your stuff , i was looking for some travel vlogs and your's just hits the spot , well done mate , amazing work !
A more chill environment would be nice. I think you get that more in Italy. A dream vacation. Thanks for the fantasy.
Must be tough to go home, departing from such a fantasy.
My favorite of all your videos! Loved the longer format and detailed tour through the hotel and the town. Please do more of this type!
I've been to st Moritz in Switzerland to watch the white turf. Definitely an experience of a lifetime. The horses race on the frozen lake. Highly recommend.
Loved this Tim thanks for sharing, the food looked 😋, hotel amazing and the scenery wow looked great. Hope you and the family have an amazing Christmas love you all 😘 xxxc
Thank you, Tim for going to places where I dare not go too afraid. But at least I get to see him through your eyes. I totally appreciate 😊❤hen I found you. Cause these things that you are showing. I will never see, but now I have.
👑FOR HARD WORK
The Mountain view is fantastic ❤ love this video Tim! Thank you 👍
And Merry Christmas to you, Gaby, Casper and all yours!
You really ended the year with a great big bang with this one. Absolutely stunning. Thank you Tim x
Wow Tim that is the most beautiful town and hotel ive ever seen. Thanks for doing this for us.
Stunning mate, imagine going there and not taking swim shorts though, what a wally!. Cheers, great vlog.
So pleased that you went here. I watched 'The Alpine Hotel at Christmas' on channel 4 (UK) the other week and it looked magical! Wishing you, Gabby and the kids a very Merry Christmas and very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2025! X
Greatings from Zurich Tim, Enjoy your stay in Switzerland!
Thanks! 😃
very nice vid!!! Switzerland has always been one of the places on my bucket list, and I here that Montreux is beautiful as well...
It is indeed
Hands downs, that has to be one of the best hotels you’ve stayed in.
The ambiance, the attention to detail and just the aura of the place just looks so welcoming, especially in the winter.
Being a ski lover, this would be an amazing stay for my family. 👌
Hi tim loved the video looks like an amazing place to stay the views are breathtaking
I spent one day here many years ago it wasn't long enough.. one of the prettiest places in the world..
Merry Christmas to you Tim and to your family 🎉🌲 stay safe out there ❤
compared to alot of the other high class hotels thats been featured here the last year this one actually looks pretty good
This is my favorite place you have stayed at. So elegant and just stunning, beautiful!
It’s super close to Italy, I’ve been there when I was a kid. I remember that there was a Rolls Royce Phantom outside the most expensive hotel and I took a picture of it. That summer I was in Lombardy at the Stelvio Pass and we went also in San Maurizio (St. Moritz) to see the town. 🇮🇹🤝🏻🇨🇭
The buildings are beautiful as well as the scenery. I have been inside some high end shops. The store personal usually do not make you feel welcomed. I enjoyed this video and thank you for sharing. Would I ever visit here, I doubt it too expensive for me.
Thanks
Wow thank you
