I've found minibars with sensors to be quite a pain. On several occasions, I've encountered items like beer that were months past their expiration date, even in high-end hotels. While one can certainly complain about it, the fact that these issues occur given the premium prices charged is a significant downside for me. It's a big enough issue that it influences my ratings and reviews of hotels. It's disappointing to see this lack of attention to detail, especially in places where you expect top-notch service and quality.

i actually hate the sole idea of pay-to-eat/drink products being forced into hotel rooms, everything inside should be free of additional charge, if they want to sell drinks and snacks without shops, they could just install vending machines... or pehaps those would look "cheap" when compared to products offered inside the rooms ;)

From a design pov, it looks very cookie-cutter and pretty sterile like it could be any other fancy resort. Underwhelming, like most of Dubai really, it's just a great exercise in how fast you can spend your money. Most Asian countries offer so much more value just through how their culture and natural hospitality is woven into the experience. Middle East haven't quite nailed it yet. I'm saying this as someone who grew up in Dubai. Thanks for giving us an insight into this spectacle of superficiality.

    • @gclip9883

I agree. It's so gaudy. Everything is expensive, but it lacks taste and sophistication. It's just excess for the sake of it, instead of using that money to create something truly unique. Although i do have to say that this is a lot better than that 7-star hotel, that room was so ugly.

I was feeling a bit down, but it's so good knowing I'm not the only one who feels that way!
Simple pleasures for me are a cup of coffee ☕️ in the morning (especially if it's delivered by a family member), climbing into a warm bed at the end of the day and knowing I have connected with and/ or brought joy to others in between!
Too much shiny stuff makes me uneasy, conversely, too much clutter and mess also do (which I am grappling with at the moment, during house renovations. )

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for nice surroundings, and good hotels, but I'm offended by the vulgar opulence oil rich arabic countries flaunt. They could spend their billions better on irrigating the whole desert, restoring ancient monuments and lost civilizations, helping feed the poor, helping third world countries, cleaning the plastic and waste pollution from the seas, doing good for the environment, etc, etc. Not creating gold toilets, diamond shoes, and all the rest of the silly frivolous stuff the billionaires and trillionaires of the world feel the need to have.

it's not even really quite for the instant generation. A lot of that generation, and I don't think you'd be surprised to find - but they're trying to look good on a budget, because they've not got a lot of wealth. Everyonbe wealthy enough to stay here, I mean that's all wealth that is just totally generation-independent. Dubai itself is a hub of it. It's not like the money that flows through that place is honest in any form.

To me it seems…tacky. Like i feel like if you really had money like this you wouldn’t be wasting it on a place like this. Don’t get me wrong it looks nice, but it doesn’t look like there’s much to do there. All i see are pools and the beach ofc and that’s about it besides the bar that’s probably overpriced as well. Id rather go to Mexico where there’s lots to do at a fraction of the price.

Another great video Tim. Also, I agree with everyone else---I loved the "how many people can fit into the shower" element, not only for the humour but also for the practical side. I will explain-- though I am not ancient, I am old enough to remember when our rural community in Canada switched to the metric system. Though officially adopted in Canada in 1970, it took a few years to filter down the educational system to more remote areas of the country so my poor brain is part metric and part imperial. For example, I understand sq feet better than sq meters but use C instead of F for temperature. So, for the practical side, when you would state a shower could hold 4, 5 or 6 number of people, I could immediately get a grasp on the shower size. Guess with that admission, it would be easy to figure out that my career has nothing to do with anything math-related:) I loved your videos the way they were, and are, but ultimately, it is your comfort that matters the most so I will continue to support as a subscriber whatever direction you use to explain shower dimensions. The private cabanas, where everyone can see you and aren't very private are just £1,000. If Sir finds those too pricey, might I offer Sir a £500 ride in this jet ski car - per 30 minutes, of course. Water at night time, Sir? Ah, we are in a desert, Sir and we used all the water on the waterfall walls, lifts, giant ornamental ponds and 20 swimming pools, Sir. 😆
