Deep Rock Galactic wouldn't be the same without the hard work of you two. I'm glad we have such talented people responsible for everything audio-related in this game.
7:37 that extra melody line made this one of the most iconic tracks from the both volumes of the soundtrack, amazing job, I absolutely love the game and it's soundtrack so much
i think the catchiest songs are those you can hum/sing along to, they are easier to remember - literally, more 'catchy' to the brain. not that you have to be a good singer or actually try to imitate it, more that its easier for the brain to process and understand the patterns. the melody did just that, plus it sounds so nice

Thanks a lot man. And no! Not too emotional. It’s great hearing really personal stories. And yes. I added the synth line. Thanks a lot for your post man. Great post :)
ROCK AND STONE. This is the only shooter that I play, and I was hesitant as well until i played a mission with my buddies. similarly, the epic score really delivered it for me on the escape. Rest is history. Top tier game and soundtrack. Hope you're still playing and prepared for season 2!
Drg is the first game ever where I have the music louder than the game sounds. It's not just good music but the choice to make it pop when a wave is coming makes it so much more engaging
"Now, all of this looks pretty easy and straightforward". TRJ, none of that looked easy or straightforward to me. It's impressive how much effort went into a track.
Man, the melody line you added at the "drop" (not sure if that's the correct term in this case) completely transformed the song, I can't even believe the first version didn't have it. I love this soundtrack, fingers crossed there'll be more volumes in the future! Rock and Stone!
Robot getaway's raw track was absolutely gnarly. I was headbanging at the end. I actually enjoyed the raw synths with that crunchy snare. I had the stank face the entire time 😂
One of my favorite songs in the game. Thanks for adding that "hook line". I always imagine it's Molly singing. Which is fitting as the songs called Robot Getaway~
Robot Getaway is one of my favorite songs in the game. No other song comes even CLOSE to capturing the stoic badass feeling this song invokes while you're evacuating the caves, defending your brothers from the hordes below. The original version from Sophus sounds absolutely amazing, and now that I've heard it, I would pay good money for an original demo tracks album, but MAN, you've done an amazing job mastering the song for the game! My hats off to you! Rock and Stone!
This has to be one of my favorite track, everytime I call the drop pod and this I know this is gonna be a good dash for the pod, you guys are doing amazing on the game!
Amazing! To compare this to visual art- it’s as if the composer provided the rough sketch and the line work, then you added the color, extra detailing, and polish. The soundtrack is incredible, thanks for both of your hard work 🌻
I made a ost MV for sleep so I've spent a lot of time going through the music. Love this video! Looking forward to more from you. Rock and Stone Brother!
This track starts out with pings, making me think the mule was sending a signal back to the drop pod. It lands with a crash and the music picks up as molly starts bringing her haul back, leaving markers for me but otherwise uncaring if I manage to follow. The noise attracted the bugs and I found myself fighting to keep up. The tension in the track builds as I feel things are falling apart, will I get back in time? What happens if I don't? I've lost Molly, and mission control said she's secure in the pod. He thankfully also tells me I've still got time. I try to retrace my steps, I see lights, and run into the open pod as the music swells. This was the first mission I remember completing, and this track will always bring me back to that amazing moment.
The first time I played this game and we called the drop pod, this song kicked in and I was like "awww shit, he we go!" This song creates the perfect amount of intensity and tension when you're running back to the drop pod on haz5. I love it!
As someone who is trying to break into the video game composing scene this helps me immensely. I only have a background in composing orchestral music so learning everything that you've done here has me excited to shift my focus to writing music like this. Thank very much for sharing.
I love how you talked about establishing certain emotions and atmospheres while you were commenting on the initial track. The idea of reconstructing a vibe through each element is why I like poetry a lot so to see you discuss it through each element of sound was cool!
You did a masterful job. The soundtrack was the reason I tried out DRG in the first place. And here I am thousands of hours later still loving the jams, keep up the good work dude. My favorite is "Follow Molly"
Personally this is my most favourite track out of the whole DRG ost. It embodies this feeling of a grand escape, a final push through the horde back to the escape pod, yet its funky nature feels weirdly motivational.
this is incredible stuff. you are rivaling the top spot with Halo music composers on my top list. If I had a suggestion, I'd love to see an inclusion of a guitar lead song in the game!
This was an eye opening video, thanks for taking the time to share this with us. (It goes without saying, but the soundtrack and sound design in this game is absolutely phenomenal.)
Well. What a video. I must say that your attention to detail, textures, layering, & placement is especially impressive. What strikes me as ironic about this is that even though you are deriving concepts from the 80's, this game feels VERY futuristic & dare I say modern. I am now working on a game doing ghastly foley (and in mono too.. I know.. an engineers worst nightmare ha ha) & you give me inspiration to just take each project one at a time. And not let it bog me down. (Damn sticky goo!) I made the stupid mistake of creating an instrumental album solely using real synths & it took 3 damn years & it got me nowhere. It was the most depressing, lonely & challenging project of my life. And so I do not take your hard work for granted. There is no such thing as being "Gifted", or a "Genius", etc. It's all down to long lonely hard work. It helps if you have an obsession as I think you do, but every time I play DRG I can't help but think of you.. slaving away, night after night trying to perfect your art, & that is the sole reason why it stands with the greatest entertainment of all time. The last point I want to make but is kinda a hard topic to bring up, is how game Developers & the studios behind games think of sound as a cherry on the cake rather than the dough which bakes into a cake-fest. You & the composer are equally undoubtedly as much the reason for this games adoration & success as the graphics design teams, directors, producers, etc. If you take say.. Army of Two: Devils Cartel Title screen, you can tell that piece is but a mere 10 second loop. And it feels so cheap & dead. Where as your personality & love of sound has populated this game in ways in which reflects nature itself, & although people who are _not_ phonometricians merely recognise sound subconsciously, your contributions are essential main events on which this whole universe are founded. This is no slur to the Team, but I sense they do not truly understand what an integral part of their project you have proven yourself to be. Cling on to your modesty as best as our predecessors did though. The first commercial electronic piece of music was composed by a girl who died penniless, without any royalties or even a mention given in the credits for her realization of the Dr Who theme's original futuristic sound. We do this for a labour of love. Thank God they found you - who put as much love in as people get out of it every day. Thank you so much. *"What we do now is not important for itself, but hopefully one day, someone may create something beautiful upon these foundations"* ~ Delia Derbyshire, BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Pioneer of Musique-Concréte
You are welcome :) It was a blast to work on. I did all the music for a game called Void Crew. The soundtrack is scheduled to come out on steam in a couple of months, just FYI. Cheers
i always loved, how in music adding even one very simple detail can make really big difference and give the whole composition a new level and feel. In this case that simple detail is melody at 7:37. Amazing work, we will miss you in DRG, but we wish you good luck in any future projects, Rock and Stone!
Thank you for this, I recently discovered this game and it’s amazing the music is top notch all the music fits it’s individual themes in the game thank you and all who were involved
Absolutely sick song. Axes Out was the first track that really hooked me, but Robot Getaway and a few others have absolutely grown on me to the point where there isn't a song that plays that I don't vibe to. I am a massive John Carpenter fan and adore grungy/dark synth sounds in general and you fucking nailed it in your work. Seriously all my favorite older movies have killer synth tracks. Surprised to hear that you weren't already like a super fan of Carpenter's music choices, since you tapped directly into it's very essence. Very, very few games, Synthetik comes to mind, have such killer soundtracks. Edit: changed wording so my intention was clear.
This is one of my favourite songs in a video game. It's competing with Golden Axe 1 (arcade) & Megaman I & II (SNES). It's hallowed company and the best compliment i can give video game music.
OML thank you for making this, I've been making music for a while, but this game's sound track and doom's really pushed me to take ot seriously. Getting to see how you did this is an absolute gane come true! Thank you so so much
@TRJ Audio I'm listening whole 2 ost volumes for like 10th time. Atmosphere, punch, sounds - masterpice... Very cinematic, dramatic, uplifting - while playing the game, when you hear the music it makes you feel like in the movie :)). Your muzic is superb guys. Sound choice, production.. have no words that is so good :). Only game where music volume is set to 200%. Yeah! :) ps maybe video about They're Here ;)?
Deep Rock Galactic is one of my favorite games of all time, and it's sound design is a big part of that. It's extremely well done and I could never imagine the game without it. Absolutely phenomenal job, you really absolutely knocked it out of the park. Btw my favorite track is Run! Just so good :)
7:30 "And I added a new line where it goes from top to bottom right now" This makes the track for me - so much tension! Like the video, would love to see more. Also not sure if it's outside your domain but I'd be really interested to know how the game decides to start and stop tracks in-game as it always seems perfectly timed with the swarms. Rock & Stone
Thanks. Yeah. The devil is in the details :) the music shift is very easy. Every time a swarm is triggered, mission control announces the wave. While mission control the idle music is faded out quickly and the wave music starts right after mission control is done. :)
Wow....I thought you just did the soundtrack!! You deserve a raise man!! You're an amazing dude and I wish nothing but success!! Dropped a like and subbed, and I'll throw ya a dono! I cant stress enough how much I love your music, and the creature sounds!! agh, you are amazing, dude.
The part at 7:47 really reminds me how some games use calm and heavy layers to keep the theme of a level consistent while still having music react to the gameplay. Obviously this is probably not the right choice for DRG, but it was really interesting to hear. Also one story of mine: my most immersive musical moment in DRG was my first ever escord duty mission. When I eventually got to the Omorran Heartstone and started the cracking phase of the mission, "Axes Out" started playing and the heavy beat of the track perfectly synced with Doretta thumping the objective to pieces! I was somewhat bummed out later to find out that any combat track could play during the defence phase, and it was just pure luck that one of the tracks with the same rhythm as the objective happened to play... Which makes me wonder if there's a way to intentionally pull off stuff like this to have even greater integration between gameplay and music? It would probably be a massive undertaking especially considering this is an MP game, but something "minor" like the bugs timing their steps to the beat of the music would be magical to see.
I actually wanted to do the thing you described. With the exact same track. Talked to the game director about the idea and he liked it, but after some time he didn’t want to go through with it, because he wanted to have different tracks to play when opening the heart stone. Not just the same track over and over. But yeah. I thought about the exact same thing :)
@@trjaudio So it was intentional! Kinda shame, but on the other hand it's true it would get repetive after a hundred runs. The Machine Events anyway play the same track over and over again, but I guess it's a special occasion that wouldn't "fit" in a regular mission. Anyways the soundtrack is a pleasure to listen to and it's very telling of the craftmanship that even after hundreds of hours I haven't replaced it with anything else. I just hope that at some point in the future we might see some tight gameplay and music integration like that again.
I can see why you'd prefer the second volume and call it your best work, it's very energetic and it must have been more fun to get your hands on real synth hardware, but in terms of tone the first volume is my favourite because it sits further towards horror on the sliding scale of action - horror. Leave No Dwarf Behind and March of the Brave sold the game to me and volume 2 shifted the overall tone of the game further from horror, and none of the music mods reinvoke that sense of fear.
One of the things I noted about this soundtrack is that it evokes a very 80s classic sci fi feel. Was John Carpenter's The Thing or Bladerunner an influence on any of the tracks?
May I ask Horror Hoxxes did you get inspiration by Terminator 2? The bassy "Baaaaroooooo" sound is very haunting, perfect for the Dreadnought. Was that an anvil being hit and slowed down? How did you create that sound?
I was not inspired by t2 on the first album as far as I recall. But the second I was :) I think the bass sound was just a synth sadly. Would have been a cool story though :)
THANKS!:) I have been producing music since forever. I started back on a PC in 1998 or so. But professionally, I guess I have been doing it for 10 years or so. But only now and then. Hasnt been my main focus.
Why do so many producers prefer mac over pc? Whenever you have so many Kontakt libraries loaded, you need raw power given from a good CPU and a lot of RAM.
I was using PC for music production up until it was 29 or so. Then I worked full time at a place were they only used mac, and never looked back. PC is still great for many things, but the visuals of MacOS, the whole UI experience and the generic robustness of the whole thing when connecting lots of 3rd party stuff is better, in my experience at least :) But each to his own.
This is awesome! Both volumes are so good and add so much to the game. It's really interesting to see how Robot Getaway came together. Favorite song in the game. It inspired me to record a cover, let me know what you think if you get a chance: ua-cam.com/video/Dt0vWlI7ojY/v-deo.html

@@trjaudio That melody added so much extra adrenaline to the feeling of "omg will I make it to the excape pod?!"

easily my favorite song of the entire ost

this lead synth that you put into the drop basically made me not only fall in love with one of my favorite games of all time, but made me discover a whole genre of video games as a whole
i owe this game a lot and... by extension... you... :)
this might be too emotional and all but it just came to my mind when i heard the track without the high synth
you did claim that you added that one yourself right? i'm not fanboying?
it sounded good without it and all and i loved it, but it just wasn't the same
robotic escape is probably the song that summarizes the mood of the game the best for me
dark, unknown caves, a unknown approaching threat, then a breather, followed by maniacally screaming dwarves mowing down everything in sight, looking forward to clinking mugs after the mission is over

also the automation on arp1 is fantastic oh my god
Thanks man :)
This is one of my favourite songs in a video game. It's competing with Golden Axe 1 (arcade) & Megaman I & II (SNES). It's hallowed company and the best compliment i can give video game music.
You're responsible for the signature BWOW BWOW-NOW of robot getaway! Great job!
Rock and Stone every one !!
OML thank you for making this, I've been making music for a while, but this game's sound track and doom's really pushed me to take ot seriously. Getting to see how you did this is an absolute gane come true! Thank you so so much
Thanks man. Keep on making music :)
Yeah! :)
ps maybe video about They're Here ;)?
Thank you so much:) I’m currently working on a new video. Stay tuned:)
Deep Rock Galactic is one of my favorite games of all time, and it's sound design is a big part of that. It's extremely well done and I could never imagine the game without it. Absolutely phenomenal job, you really absolutely knocked it out of the park. Btw my favorite track is Run! Just so good :)
7:30 "And I added a new line where it goes from top to bottom right now"
This makes the track for me - so much tension!
Lol but why did you make the elevator plant sound terrifying when you kill it. ♥
i think i need to make a more brutal version of this, so damn cool
Please do :)
Thank you SO much. For the donation, the sun and also the comment:) have an awesome day!
watching his mastering process on robot getaway is like being there while the bibles being written
Haha, amazing comment. Thanks
Hey man dude, you're a cool man dude
any chance of getting the original converted file, or is it protected by business "stuff"? awesome video tho
Sadly no :(
Rock And Stone!
Awesome :-)
The part where you went up in between the parts and then did a melody is pretty much the most popular sound in DRG how are you not getting paid.
I was getting paid :) Just not for doing these videos
Yup. As said in the video, John carpenter and the thing was def. inspirational sources. Along with some blade runner stuff :)
Follow Molly next.
do you guys think you would ever be able to release a midi for this track? have been dying to remix is
Sadly no, I don't think so :)
Any chance of the soundtrack being released on Vinyl?
Buy this man a pizza!
Yes indeed! Pizza time! :)
This looks really hard to produce. How long have you been making music? Really awesome job.
@@trjaudio the ui is very reminiscent of Cubase, especially with the automation and properties on the track list.
Goodness me this looks complicated
This is awesome! Both volumes are so good and add so much to the game. It's really interesting to see how Robot Getaway came together. Favorite song in the game. It inspired me to record a cover, let me know what you think if you get a chance:

Haha, great cover :) Keep on rocking!
@@trjaudio thank you! Please ignore the lack of bass and terrible drum machine! Any plans for a Vol. 3 for DRG?
So you didn't create the original, who did?
Sophus Alf Agerbæk-Larsen :) he did the composing. I did the producing/mix/mastering.
This is really cool, thank you!
