oh this is beautifully messed up. watching your best friend get casually smashed to pieces in front of you. waiting for the perfect moment to kill the dwarf that took your them from you. only to have your mind enslaved and to carry out a sick parody of what you once had with your best friend's murderer. and at the end of the day the dwarf leaves you behind. you are left all alone again, not even the comfort of a delusion as you wait in the dark for someone that will never come back. the ending shot of the glyphid guard in the dark as the music fades to empty silence is so perfectly melancholic its such good composition. even if the effect wears off you would have to live with the knowledge that you not only failed to avenge your best friend's murderer, you joined them. they made you dance and play and help like a good little puppet and you did it happily. incredible work guys this is some fucking AMAZING storytelling
I’m the animator on the game. Wow, this is some dark sinister black mirror stuff right there 😮 So well done dude. I loved every second of this, very well produced and executed 👌 I have no idea how you did this. Must have taken a long time to make
Thank you so much! We have a pretty good system down these days but it's definitely complicated lol. MusNothus figured out most of the sandbox stuff we use. Glad you enjoyed it! Rock & Stone!
Thank you! We basically just find ways to showcase the cool animations and things that you all made in videos like this, so we really appreciate all you've done and it means a lot to know you enjoyed the video. One of the big tricks we used in this video was to make one of the dwarves invisible so they could pet Steeve to make him do the little shimmy he does, kick the soccer ball to make it look like Steeve did it, etc.
Friendship, drama, a tinge of revenge, then... friendship again? This was emotional and an absolute thrill to watch. Props to you and the modders who made the vid! Also, this really reminds me of Minecraft dogs, where once you leave the world or go out without them, they just sort of... sit there. Who knows? Maybe we'll hop into a cave and find a Steeve that remembers us...
I am 99% sure that the entire reason why Hoxxes is so violent to dwarves is because people kept taming them and those buggy feelings of love never went away. Then they're thinking something like "Ooh, this must be my dwarf! Oh no! It isn't! YOU STOLE MY DWARF FROM ME YOU GEOLOGICAL KLEPTOMANIACS RAAAAWR!"
Thank you so much! We're very glad you liked it. We always thought the concept that GSG created of being able to tame a glyphid was quite emotionally/morally complex when you really think about it (as many Reddit posts from the community highlighted over the years), so we wanted to turn that conflict into a short story.
Thanks! Yeah DITNO and I filmed this together. We discovered that filming in a mission is a lot more complicated than filming in the space rig, which is where we did most of our previous machinimas. That's very nice of you to say; we appreciate it and are glad you enjoyed the video!
Somewhere out there, the steeves live. Separate from the usual glyphid packs, they have scratched their own exsistence out in the caves of hoxxes. They live as nomads, fighting as a team against the various lifeforms that hunt against them, using their superior combat abilities to protect their own, and survive. While not all steeves may survive on hoxxes IV, their breif time with the dwarves of Deep Rock Galactic has taught them bravery, taugth them teamwork, and given them something that every other creature on Hoxxes lacks: An iron will, a determination to survive, and make the best of what they have. They aren't just fighting for survival, or food. They fight for each other, their friends and their family. They fight for their brothers, and they fight for their clan. They fight, for rock and stone.
I would love a sequel where a glyphid became a Steeve after his friend got infected with Rockpox and a sad confrontation between to two. It could even end with one member of the dwarf team finding out Steeve is infected and they put him down like Old Yeller.
This was very wholesome. Especially considering that every steeve will never have an happy ending. It will always end with himbeing mauled to death by his own kind while his master leaves...
I just got a kinda cursed idea. Go as aggressively Australian as possible on scout with the pheromone bolts on your crossbow. Pheromone grenades, and finish it off by getting yourself a Steve and become the Gliffid hunter...... Just be careful around sting tails. We don't need another tragedy.
if we have a steeve at the end of a misson , there should be a special place in the space rig for him , like doretta's head. i hate leaving my precious boy behind
Maybe someone could make a mod where if you had a Steeve alive at the end of the mission, there'd be a framed photo of him in your room back on the space rig after the mission, similar to doretta's head being in the rig. It could basically use an image of a generic grunt, slasher, or guard steeve and superimpose it over a generic photo of the biomes you were in (maybe even representing the mission type you were in, like showing the minehead in an aquarq mission, and maybe with a randomized sentimental caption or something). As always, I have no idea how hard that would be.
Could you make a version were steve hears footsteps behind him and turnsaround to see a silhoutte of a karl and the karl says "Don't worry I'll take care of you" (you can use AI for karl)
This is art.
💛
HOLY MOLLY ITS GHOST SHIP GAMES
ROCK AND STONE!!!!
Management send their regards.
R0Ck @nD $t()ne!
Let us bring him home!
I always hate leaving Steeve behind 😭
Leave no dwarf behind, but sadly, leave every Steeve behind.
I used to try to get Steeve on the drop pod before it left because I didn’t want to leave him
I like to imagine the Steeves are adopted by Karl
Don't worry, I'm sure Karl'll take care of him, just like the others.
Aw, I really like that addition to the lore
I'm adopting that as headcannon. Karl is leading a herd/army of Steve's
Someday I hope to see a random praetorian come through and decimate a swarm before leaving, cause I know that'll be Karl's Steeve
@@aliteralpotato873 no, it would be a dreadnought
😭

Kilgrave moment here.
It's almost cruel leaving all those lonely Steves behind, alone, pining for his lost friends. great video.
No it's just the same Steeve. He just finds us everytime we go down to Hoxxes.
I’m the animator on the game.

How cool would it be if the plot of Rogue Core has to do with all the Steeves we've left behind?
Petition for bugs to be allowed on the Space Rig.

Oh Steeve… looking for love in all the wrong places. Love these short films you make, really nicely shot and edited!
💛

For the steves we lost.
Now I never want to hurt another glyphid again, how dare you.
Are we the baddies?
👀
I had a terrible nightmare! I dreamt we all worked for a soulless mining corporation..
Awwww CRAP
yes
Indeed
What a surprising psychological thriller!
an emotional roller coaster!
This reminds me of the fan-made TF2 SFM animations back in the day. Great work man!
Very emotional!! I loved it ❤️
Thank you Mikkel! Glad you enjoyed it!

When you start feeling bad for the bugs, you know it's time to quit
glyphid grunt guard gameplay: haha funny armor
glyphid grunt guard lore:
I bet this video took a lot of time to make! It definitely put a smile on my face! Thanks for making and uploading it :P

ALLOW US TO BRING STEEVE BACK AND REVIVE HIM
This man got me crying in the drop pod
You’re my friend now! We’re having soft tacos later!
I love the focal shift from one bug to another. Cute video.made me feel warm and fuzzy
Our ability to pet animals is amazing in it's effect. And the fact that it's instinctual to us all is, pretty cool.

Man this is sad on multiple levels
1:18 Finally a Natural selection 2 update
If only we could bring steeve on board the rig.
I was not expecting any of the plot twists, but boy were they great!
"A tour de force, a roller coaster of emotions." - Karl, probably
DITNO never fails to impress. wow
He really nailed the cinematography and edits on this, and the music timing and everything really sold the message
Omg this is beautiful, and still brakes my heart 💔
the power attack one hit killing the glyphid was so satisfying to see
Haha I know, when we got that shot we were amazed by how brutal it looked, which was perfect because it not only looked cool but was also extra sad.
This is amazing!
Thank you my friend! Super excited for Rogue Core!
Thank you! Like DITNO said, we're both super pumped for Rogue Core!
I’m not crying you are.

Oh man that is a great idea for a video
Thank you.@@MusNothus
This is a lot more wholesome than the realistic version, where you brainwash Slasher Steeve and use him to kill his buddy.
This was a rollercoaster of emotions
The Deep Rock machinima is r e a l
Don't cry, Steeve. Not for the loss of your old friend, or the newer one, but smile for the new ones that will come along.
Until a drop pod lands you.
Alternative ending :
"I ordered a resuply !"
Hahaha, oh Steeve you inattentive bug, always getting yourself squished (though I guess it's kind of our faults for standing so close...)
man what a roller coaster of emotions.
you, sir, are a master. hat's off.
Truly a cinematic masterpiece, I love it
You just never cease to amaze us.
Wake up babe new rock and stone dropped
🪨&🪨
why do I always feel bad for the bugs xD
This video taught me to kill every single bug I see in the caves to make sure best friends always go together.
I love all your short films
lovly
This was very wholesome. Especially considering that every steeve will never have an happy ending. It will always end with himbeing mauled to death by his own kind while his master leaves...
How was this made???? This is FANTASTIC!!! I love it!!!!!
Thank you! Lots of mods, trial and error. New short one in a couple hours!
I feel so sad for this guard.
This video makes me so happy, then so sad, but then so happy...but then so sad
🎢
Brings a tear to my eye
Well that was a mix of sad and awesome.
Imagine if there was a low chance of meeting steve in another mission after you left one behind...
Ooo that's a cool idea. You're steeve could recognize you like those videos of elephants or whatever recognizing their caretakers years later.
@@MusNothus Yep exactly
Like Fry's dog in Futurama, Steeve will sit there until you return for him... Just waiting...😭
That my friends is what you might call a MEGA OOF
AMMO!
Such a good video
Rock and stone brother
isgoodbug 💚
That's sick 😰
Omg hi error cube
Um actually I'm ERR://23¤Y%/
_What is this?_
So cool🙌
Damn ninjas cutting onions next to me DAMN ONION NINJAS!!
I love this
Man screw them glyphids they don't deserve mercy, one of them ate my sandvich.
No one can resist the charm of a dwarf.
Amazing
Love this so much
I almost cried watching this it’s so sad
Beastest friend
I can't believe you've done this.
I just got a kinda cursed idea. Go as aggressively Australian as possible on scout with the pheromone bolts on your crossbow. Pheromone grenades, and finish it off by getting yourself a Steve and become the Gliffid hunter...... Just be careful around sting tails. We don't need another tragedy.
the visual from inside the jaws was a real piece of art there, someone likes the alien franchise?
Nice work
I'm at a loss for words
Tragic... but also kinda funny
The dwarfs are the bad guys lets be honest just look at how many flares there are on the ground after a mission and tell me we are doing good

a cinematic masterpiece mah dude, how did you get these shots??
I mean, dang bro. 😂😂😂 ...😢
Haha yeah this still gets me every time I watch it
Me and my Steeve
with me he will stay-ay
There’s Oscar bait, and then there’s THIS 👏👏👏
Good job!
poor steeve
mmm. bugs....
Damn dude this was super cute right up until it was fucking tragic
We're sorry 😭
Did you make us feel bad for a Glyphid dying? Kinda a leaf lover move Ngl.
But feeling bad for Steve is ok
We love Steve 07
ok this is actually really depressing
Я не плачу. Это дождь😢
Good guy steeve
now you made me feel bad
