  • If you get a new remote or change the battery in your remote you may need to reprogram your vehicle to accept the keyless entry remote or key fob. This procedure works for a lot of 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 ford vehicles, see below for vehicles that the procedure works on and vehicles that use a slight variation on this procedure. I attempted to get this list accurate however I apologize because mistakes could have been made.
    Blog post here www.electronhac...
This exact procedure should work for
    Crown Victoria 2007-2008
    Expedition 1998-2009
    Explorer 1998-2001
    Escape 2001-2007
    Escort 1997-2003
    Excursion 2000-2006
    F150-F250 1998-2003
    F250-550 Super Duty 2001-2008
    Mustang 1999-2009
    Ranger 1998-2008
    Taurus 1998-2007
Variation: Same procedure but turn on ignition 5 times
    Expedition 1997
    Explorer 95-1997
    F150-F250 1997
    F250-550 Super Duty 1999-2000
    Ranger 1995-1997
    Taurus 1996-1997
Variation: Same procedure but turn on ignition 4 times
    Crown Victoria 2000--2006
Variation: Close doors first then open drivers door and press power unlock switch in door then continue procedure.
    Explorer 2002-2008
Variation: Unlock doors with power unlock switch in door, do not press break pedal, continue procedure. (Program all remotes at once)
    F150-F250 2004-2009

I have a 99 E-150. This isn't even close. Remote Keyless Entry Data Link Connector has to be shorted on mine. It's hidden in the wiring harness apparently somewhere behind the instrument cluster. It is not where all the instructions say it is.

DOOD!!!! You saved me in the eyes of my wife. I changed her battery, and the remote would not work. I told her that it probably needed to be reprogrammed, but she would have NONE of that "nonsense". She was determined to go and buy a new remote!
I looked up your video, reprogrammed the remote, and now I'm a hero! This is for a 2008 Mustang GT. You are greatly appreciated!

Please let me start by saying, THANK YOU! SO MUCH!!! I spent the majority of my day crying. I left my car light on all night, needless to say it was dead in the AM. It took the tow people four hours and two men to jimmy the lock. When he jumped my battery,he said I needed a new battery. Went to the auto store and got a new battery for my car and my keyless. No one at the Auto store or the tow company knew how to do what you just did in five minutes. You are a life saver, thank you1

I have an '02 explorer and owners manual left out the "Close door then open door and press unlock button switch" part out. Thanks for the extra steps. Most owners manuals will show you how to do things yourself rather than paying big bucks at dealers. Thumbed up your video.

I have a 99 Explorer. I tried turning it 8X on and off with no success. I saw your variation about locking and unlocking the door manually, (using the door switch) as you get in the vehicle, and repeated the 8X step. It worked like a charm! I would recommend that people do that unlock/lock manually trick if you're having problems, regardless of year and model.

Works! One additional detail for a 2000 F250 - it takes a couple minutes after programming for both FOBs to actually work as described. The locks would actuate once when pressing the button on the FOB once....on each FOB. Then they didn’t work for about two minutes

Thank you so much David for this extra tip!!! I have a 2000 Ford F250 and every time I tried programming the fobs they would work the 1st time but then not after that, exactly as you stated. I waited as you suggested and now all three fobs work perfectly. Thank You!!

I tried and failed to program my 2001 Expedition in April 2015. A few weeks ago I took the Expedition in for transmission service and to have the transmission overdrive on/off switch repaired. The shop repaired the overdrive and I noticed the door locks would activate when put in drive where it previously did not. I decided to try the key fob programming again and it now works. Thanks for the video, as it really helped. I hope this additional information helps someone who fails to program their remote.

Thank you very much for this, worked perfectly for my 2004 Ford F150, would have cost me $150 at the dealership to buy two electronic unlock buttons and a service fee for programming them, got 2 on amazon for $10 bundled and didn't cost me a penny to program thanks to you, I appreciate it!

I ordered a used Ford key fob remote from eBay... I have an '02 Ford Ranger 4x4 5 speed... I had seen other people say it wouldn't work on standards, but within 5 minutes of receiving it, I had it programmed on the first try... the fob was only $10 w/free shipping, so this saved me a lot of $... thanks for the info!

Something you may want to mention is that the doors must be unlocked in order for the vehicle to enter program mode. (2005 Expedition) I tried this over and over again until I read the user manual which pointed that out. Worked instantly after I had done that.

My husband has a Ford Expedition '99 and I just programmed the two remote that I purchased from Amazon. I turn it on quickly, per your instruction (but i only did it 6x) and viola the SUV lock & unlock; I then pressed the lock key on the new first remote & right after that a few second later - I pressed lock on the second remote = they are now both programmed!

These steps worked for my 2004 Ford Ranger Edge
1.Close all doors, then open drivers door and press the Unlock button on driver's door while it is open, insert key into ignition.
2.Turn ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times within 8 seconds, with the 8th time ending in RUN. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming mode. (if the door locks do not cycle, then it was done incorrectly. You must start over by removing key and beginning from step 1)
(Off is the position where you can remove your key, RUN is the position just shy of starting your car.)
3.Within 10 seconds press any button on the first keyless remote to be programmed. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming. If you only have one remote then skip to step 5.
4.Within 10 seconds, press any button on the second keyless remote. Door locks will cycle again to confirm programming. Repeat step 4. for all other remotes.
5.Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.
*If this does not work try the procedure with the door closed.

2000 Ford F250 SuperDuty: With all doors closed and door unlocked, click the key on FIVE times and leave key on. You will hear locks click at that point. Click ONE BUTTON on EACH fob to be programmed. Then turn key off. Check all your fobs and they should all work. It just worked for me! (I tried the video method several times and I kept ending up with only one key programmed each time.... Good luck!)

Follow my steps,1.get in your ford car/truck unlock all doors. 2, cycle the key back and fourth like the video does 8 times. 3, press lock on both remotes( on my 2004 ford excursion i had to do both remotes at the same time, so i did not shut the key off after it locked on the first remote i did both remotes at the same time after turning the key 8 times only). i hope this helps.

Thanks man this definitely helped. Had to make sure all the doors were unlocked first. For my vehicle however once you did the you program 2 keys differently.
Make sure all doors are unlocked
    Off to on 8 times
    Locks cycle
    Click first fob
    Locks auto cycles
    Click second fob.
Basically you skip turning it off for 20 seconds. If you turn it off you basically erase the first key.

So, I have 4 remotes. Dunno why, they came with the car, but 3 of 4 were not programmed. After other variations, using these instructions I did the 8 times cycle of ignition, left the ignition on and then hit the lock button on each of the remotes, one after the other, while ignition was still on. This programmed ALL remotes. Perhaps you should add this to your description so others will know.

Thank you for the video. On my 1998 explorer xlt, I found that you need to program ALL remotes at the same time (by pressing a button on each of your remotes) after cycling the ignition 8 times. If you shut off the ignition after programming only one remote and then attempt to program another remote(, only the last programmed remote will be saved in the vehicle's memory.

Also, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND buying an extra key for your car, as if you lose one of the two that you usually get, it will cost hundreds of $$$ to replace, but if you buy an extra now (a third key), you can program it as easily as these FOBs. I buy mine new off of ebay for around $15-$20, but make sure it has the chip in it.

this worked but, I programmed 3 fobs at once by only turning the key on and off the initial 8 times leaving in the on position the 8th time like it says to. then pressing the lock button on each fob while the key is still in the on position. it took a few tries.

I did this with my 2003 Ford Taurus and it worked after a couple tries. Only thing was that after the door locks had locked and then unlocked, I had to wait about 6-7 seconds until then was I able to press the buttons to test out that the fob worked. The first time when I tried pushing the buttons right away after the door locks had engaged, nothing happened.

On amazon they sell the keys for "1998-2009" and "1998-2004" etc and they look just like yours. There is also a post for just the 97 expedition alone, it looks pretty much the same, but weird.

Thank you! I did it on my own and it didn’t work. Apparently I needed to watch the video and see it before I tried it. 😁

Thanks for posting these instructions. I followed the proceedure for my 2008 F250. Everything goes as described until I get to the point where the doors lock and unlock after the 8 cycles. They don't, any suggestions? I get a flashing red "padlock" on the instrument cluster after the 8 cycles but the door locks don't respond.

For a 2003 ford explorer, you have to open the driver door, press the unlock button and THEN do the on/off 8 times in 10 seconds

+Grindahz Studio Right on! the method indicated in the video didn't work for me and my 2003 Eddie Bauer Expedition. But your comments made all the difference. Thanks. I have a working FOB now

I thought this would be some complicated process. My remote for my 2003 F-150 was dead when I bought it and didn't work. Gonna go try this now.
