The reason why you need two keys to reprogram yourself is to prevent a valet from coding more keys. I don't need 3 keys either but I keep a third because I don't want to pay $50 for a rekey service at a dealership
Smart people always have 3 or 4 keys. Simply because if one is lost you can always reprogram more yourself with a minimum of two keys and avoid over priced dealers. If you have only one key, then get smart and get another through the dealer. And then buy one or two more as back ups on ebay for those, just in case, moments.
Forscan will let you program a new key when you only have 1 key. I've done it recently. But anyone doing it will want to read up on it 1st to know what you're doing, I was able to program my new key without deleting any keys from the trucks memory which was very important to me. If you have to delete all keys from memory then you run the risk of having no working key so do some homework 1st. Great program and to me it was well worth the $10 to buy the 1 year extended license needed to access the PATS programming module. I was so happy to save the $120 per key and $60 for programming the dealership was going to charge me I gladly paid it. Sure you can get a free 2 month extended license but they more than earned my $10! You will also need an ELM 327 cable/device that connects the OBDII Port in vehicle to a usb port on your laptop or tablet. I got the one forscan recommends and while a little more spendy at $39, I was very happy as it requires NO flipping of switch to go between the different modes. Before doing anything make sure you read to learn how to make a backup of your vehicles system in case you mess something up you can recover it. Besides programming keys you can do much more including read and clear DTC codes, like my simple scanner would do but those scanners arent cheap and this will do all it will and more.
Hello Mine is Ford Fusion 2012 se While programming two new key fobs, something went wrong probably I pressed other keys than the lock key. Anyway, now the original key works fine. but the problem is : the the light that indicates pairing mode is flashing every 2.5 seconds, if the original key is entered it stops flashing and can be turned on. I bought a replacement ECU with two blank keys and was supposed to follow this procedure, but it didn't work for me. How does the ECU know that it should accept two new keys?
You have to pay a locksmith to program it. Then you can make spares once you have two. If you only have one key, best do this before you have NO keys, because then it is a REAL pain. The programming costs the locksmith $40 and they usually charge about $100.
No. You need to start with two keys. This is why it's good to do as soon as you buy the car. If you could do this with only one key, then any mechanic or valet could easily steal a car by copying the key and then driving it away from a residence after they had control of the car.
@@jamayer32 A valet is a person that parks your car for you. Like at a hotel. So if you only needed one key to re-program the chip key, it would make it easier for a person with only one key to steal your car. (Mechanic for example as well) If they can copy your key and have future access to your car, then they could steal it from you, especially if they know where you work or live. Needing two keys is a way of ensuring that the programming is done by the owner. This is why it's smart to program a 3rd key. If you lose a spare you can program a new one if you started with 3 keys.
