Jeff, this walkthrough is amazing, i was glued to this start to finish, the story is the most important element of any vid or movie and that says it all 8:28 nailed it. Any one who makes content should watch this. kudos to you sir.
JEFF! My man! Videos like this are what should get UA-cam to create a Love Button for the audience to smash because this is so brilliantly put together! I thought I understood the process of Casey's Nike promo in depth, but you then brought out some extremely detailed points and shockers that create a jaw dropping experience for those of us who didn't do any further research to find the source of Casey's maddening journey through such a stressful scenario. Your personal experience in the world of video production shines bright here in the world of UA-cam and you are doing great things dude. This definitely goes down as a Masterpiece for Story Greenlight imo. Beautiful work. All the way down to setting up the cam, mic, and light on the stairs. ::puts his keyboard down and does a standing ovation::
Jeff, first, I have to say, brilliant breakdown and very clear points. Im glad you didnt chop this up into 2 or more videos because I like the continuous though process (progression) and I stayed involved with it. Im taking my notes from THIS video now and implementing them into my next structured video! Thank you man!
Hey Jeff, this is your best video yet! This is a long form video well worth watching. Love the context and how you dissected Casey's great video and style. Way to bring your "A" game!
This was fantastic Jeff! So glad you didn't try to cut this down any shorter. This is one of those videos I'm going to rewatch at again and again. Cheers! Jason #nosmallcreator
This is really great breakdown. I see clear parallels to the kind of public speaking structure for a persuasive presentation that guys like me teach: Problem, solution, benefit. It's very similar to Wanting something, Overcoming conflict, and Transformation. I love it. I'd always enjoyed Make it Count and now I know why. Thanks, Jeff. You are completely crushing it.

Incredible. You just taught me more about story in 15 minutes than in the hours of videos/podcasts I’ve listened to. Great depth of knowledge in the subject, thank you so much!!
I looked and thought, uh 17 minutes long... yes maybe i'll skip a little. Then I'm typing this realising I've actually watched the whole video straight through without going near the pause or skip controls. Love the analysis, but also the way you extract and lay bare the way that the story is the key to any great work. Keep doing this kind of content, as some of us have pretty dense heads that need a few different approaches until the thing gets past the eyes and becomes the thing under the thing.
I've watched this twice now. I came back to hit the like button. Trevor Jones introduced me to you - and man I dig what you're doing. I just finished 'How to Build a Story Brand" and now its got me rethinking the videos I make, the copy I write, and the stories I tell. I stumbled upon telling a story about one of my home sales a few weeks ago, and it really resonated with people. I posted the vid on my YT channel too. After posting that vid, and hearing the response on Facebook and Linked In I realized that I almost stumbled on to creating something decent. It's called 'The Best Part about being a Realtor". I'd love to hear what you think. Anyways, long story short, since then I read that book and binged watched your channels. It's so good, and so much more relevant for what I need to learn to do than all the camera gear review channels that I waste time on.
Awesome! Get a baseline for your gear, then focus on the space between your ears. [ooh, rhyming...] Seriously though, Trevor's great, and Miller has SO much good stuff.
Thanks for all the wonderful information! I am thoroughly enjoying your lessons Also, I couldn't help but notice, but it seems you're missing a video card @6:47 for the video about "super smooth editing"
Been watching a lot of your videos over the past week or two and have to say it’s really useful and I hope to put some of your tips into use in my own videos soon! Love the idea of the thing under the thing!! Such a good way of thinking!
Great Video Jeff! To give you an example of how great it was, my wife was getting ready to get up and go to bed for the night but she stayed around to finish watching it and wanted a few screenshots from it to help her with her book writing. She very rarely wants to stick around for my UA-cam learning videos. Good choice keeping it as one video too. OAN I think you should rethink the thumbnail for more mass appeal considering my wife enjoyed it. Put something in there that just appeals to storytelling for those who may not know Casey and his make it count video. I just think the overall video has mass appeal and moves as a really good pace to keep casual viewers interested. But I do think the thumbnail is good for the audience you intended it for.
I'm not sure how I'd never seen this breakdown before, but it's fantastic stuff, as always. That whole "motivation" thing - showing why what's happening in the video is important to the character, and where that desire is - is something that I can do a much better job explaining in my videos. Thanks, man!
this video is truly one of the nicest videos I've seen recently. Very powerful and insightful, your channel has a big future on this platform keep it up !
@@StoryGreenlight I totally understand! There was a lot of work in this. But even your "regular" vids (if I can call them that way) are really helpful. 👍
Great motivating video. I think that what's most important is to be yourself in what we creators do. There are also rules that can help with growing channel and making good, quality content. Good job in this one Story Greenlight. As usual;)
Jeff, thank you for explaining this man. I am one of those who tend to complicate everything because I tend to think far to long and hard about what I want to tell my audience. The part where you showed us where it seems Casey got his idea of running from left of screen to right of screen is something for me to think about because I normally refuse to create anything which is even vaguely similar to someone else's content, iow I normally will only create content if it is 100% original, but now I am also reminded about a Bible scripture where it is written that there is absolutely Nothing new under the sun, thus I must now reprogram my thoughts to re adjust everything about that and start creating again.
Solomon knew a thing or two about a lot of things. :-) Yeah, nothing wrong with modeling what works and adding your own spin to it. And as to overthinking, I get that. Force yourself to keep things simpler or less complex than you think you should. You'll give yourself the freedom to focus on less but in a meaningful way.
Jeff, great video as always. I love how you break down things like this. As I'm a visual person, thinking about story and script doesn't come easily or naturally to me. But to think about things in this line really helps. Thanks so much for continuing to put out great content. If only I could consistently do the same. ;) Cheers!
Thanks, Mike! Maybe if you wrote story points on Post-its or index cards that would trigger some visual processing? Hang in there, man - keep putting in the reps.
Jeff, great content. Very informative. The amount of thought and process that goes into storytelling is amazing. Your take on it, is greatly appreciated!
@@StoryGreenlight That is the goal. I have plenty of stories which make a nice platform to deliver valuable legal lessons to business owners. Thanks for the feedback!
Great video Jeff! I always love how you break things down. Your presentations are concise and so informative. I'd love to see how you plan to create such complex informative videos such as this. I'm sure you put a lot of time into the pre-pro and delineation of the content. It's this kind of content that stands out and has a long-tale over the small-minded content. (IMHO) Evergreen (Although stats may prove otherwise, I search for quality.)
Thanks, Scott! Yeah, not gonna pretend this one didn't take a lot of work, because it definitely did. But every 1 minute in planning saves 5 in shooting and 10 in editing. I'm all about putting in the skull sweat first.
Thank you so much Jeff for this vid and your excellent analysis.. you put your concept of TTUTT into such great context it has made it so much more intuitive to wrap my brain around it and start thinking of how I might implement in my own efforts.. thank you again..!! g

Since he's already aware of TTUTT you may well be pushing at an open door...
Thank you for making this, all these videos honestly. I'm a writer by trade so the 5 point 3 part plot structure is second nature to me, but you give me ideas on how to express certain things in my own video work. The reverse pyramid technique is also part of me, which is death to any video, haha.
whenever I think of the thing under the thing in a video that I am editing, I just ask myself, "What is this reallllllly about?" Watched the whole video, captivating from start to finish.
If I look at the Make it count video then is a real Max Joseph video. Just like the Do what you can't video also from Max Joseph. That video gets you hooked from the moment it begins. Could it be an idea to get in to the film making art of Max Joseph ? Love to hear your thoughts on that. Jeff. Get video by the way ! Keep the greenlights shining !
Very valid question - though frankly the answer is, far more people know about Casey than know about Max, so it'll always be a Casey piece in the public's eyes. But yeah, Max has serious chops of his own.
Great video Casey is one of my inspirations in wanting to learn grow and succeed as a content creator. I need more video tips and inspiration like this one about gaming channels cause I still got a lot to learn and a lot of trials and errors to hurtle through and a lot more tips inspiration and other research and practice to do better and get it right
Jeff how do we handle so much hypes in a daily vlog? I mean: Casey’s example is right form one video, THE video, but how do we create such a structure on a daily basis? We don’t have dragons to defeat each single day. PS: great video! Please give us more videos like this and you have a sub granted for life! 😉
Hey Ivan - the secret is in the story framework I discuss in the video here. It will fit any story line, even if there's zero hype involved. It's THE framework to hang your storytelling on.
Story Greenlight ok I agree. My question is: some days are more “adventurous”, others are more flat. How can we find an adventure each single day? For examples: it was an exciting week for my niche as the WHO (World Health Organization) was about to decide about the Gaming Disorder, after 1 year of critics. But there are flat weeks when nothing new happens. How do we keep such an “adventurous” framework in the flat periods?
@@IvanferreroIt- the fact is, you can't. Because life isn't constant adventure, and any channel that pretends to be is usually compressing a lot of time or manufacturing drama that never really existed. In those "non-adventure" times, that's an opportunity to tell stories based around your core ideas. In your case, gaming, cyberbullying, etc. Or stories about yourself, your past, why you care about the things you do. It doesn't all have to be current or in the moment.
Story Greenlight Bro after I watched this video and commented, I started watching your other videos and now I'm obsessed. Your content is a fantastic discovery and happens to be just what I needed right now, and also, what I've been looking for for a while. Keep it up!! 💪
Sweet! Thanks for the shares, man. As to making pizza, it's all about context - if you have a story about how your grandma always made pizza, TTUTT could be family, tradition, community, etc. If you make a vegatarian pizza and talk about your desire to not eat meat, TTUTT could be ending cruelty to animals, preserving the environment, etc.
This piece by piece analysis of “make it count” and Casey’s talk were great! I didn’t realize the specific pieces Casey was sequentially applying. This video is eye opening. Thanks for making it.
It is a cool video , it does a lot of compression for whoever lived under a rock and does not know about Casey ... The 3 act structure he reffered in one of his videos that he always uses... Character development you described i read a book about screenplays about it ... As editor you didnt do justice to explain all of nuances they did to make this as othed editor chanels did that made videos about Casey. Nerdwriter did an excellent video on it as did this guy edits ... I am strugling with edit and saddened not to see some practical videos from a guy as you that obviously knows so much ...
Sorry to hear that, Dragan. Frankly, I specifically avoided talking about his editing, because that's what everyone else has already done. What's the biggest challenge you have in editing right now?
@@StoryGreenlight Thank you for answering and please sorry if i sounded ruff... It feels like too big of bite for me, i come from Photo background and cannot find good tutorials and editing tips, everything is either hard core or too basic there is no overall from basics through mediate to more advanced ... i am way too stuck to know what to do ...
@@draganlazarus The number one thing I"d advise is going to a place like Udemy or Lynda.com, search for whatever software you're using, then beginner/intermediate content on that software. Once you have a foundation of how to use the tool, you can focus more on how to use the tool well. That's the kind of stuff that takes time to learn, but I and others talk about it often.
@@StoryGreenlight Thanks. This is why i have love/hate relationship with this channel, in one video ther is so much juice and in other there is so little, same with this two comments one was nice i felt gratefull you answered and last one empty callories .... Thanks again bye
@@draganlazarus Hey man - in the spirit of genuinely wanting you to get where you want to go, let me be blunt as you've been blunt with me. I put ENORMOUS amounts of my own incredibly limited time and energy in providing value in every single video I create and every comment I write. If you genuinely believe that if my advice to you is "low calories", then I'm telling you that YOU are the roadblock, not me. Stop playing the victim and whining about "creators won't give me what I need", and figure out better questions to ask. Because right now, you're not. Stop choosing to be a victim. Keep pushing forward, because I know you can get where you want to be. whenever I think of the thing under the thing in a video that I am editing, I just ask myself, "What is this reallllllly about?" Watched the whole video, captivating from start to finish.
Awesome!! Thanks, bro. :-)
Hey man I love your sound affects for story telling.. would you ever consider sell a sound pack?
Crap. That's a great idea. And I don't actually own those sound effects for resale. Hmm...
Incredible analysis! Really enjoyed it
Thanks Karlton!
Value value value....so inspiring and informative
Thanks, Anshul!
👏👏👏👏 well done! Really enjoyed this video
Cheers!
This is GREAT!!!!!!!! Interviewing a school tomorrow for my area... racking my brain now. 🤯 mind blown.
That probably depends on what device and platform you watch it on... glad it's helpful!!
Love from Bangladesh. Your analysis is awesome ❤
Sweet! So glad to hear it!
But yeah, Max has serious chops of his own.
great video champ !!! 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Kels!
@@StoryGreenlight anytime!!
Great video Casey is one of my inspirations in wanting to learn grow and succeed as a content creator. I need more video tips and inspiration like this one about gaming channels cause I still got a lot to learn and a lot of trials and errors to hurtle through and a lot more tips inspiration and other research and practice to do better and get it right
Very cool, green machine55! Keep moving forward. You got this.
Great explanation buddy.... Will be helpful for my next Travel VLog of Andamans ☺️
Sweet! Glad it's helpful!
Good stuff.. going to be working on it .. Thank you!
Fantastic! Go for it!
This streams bit is really interesting. I'll have to add that to my next video!
Enjoyed this!
Sweet! Thanks, Cindy!
Just brilliant. The both of you.
Thanks, Alex! Great hanging with you on the live call.
Story Greenlight thank you for your tips. Much appreciated. So a vlog doesn’t have to be all about the day.
Nope!
This is such an amazing content
Thank you for this content! very very interesting! U blow my mind
Glad you’re here, Esther!
thx!! so informative
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome essay/tutorial/thing!
Cheers! Thanks, Max!
Story Greenlight Bro after I watched this video and commented, I started watching your other videos and now I'm obsessed. Your content is a fantastic discovery and happens to be just what I needed right now, and also, what I've been looking for for a while. Keep it up!! 💪
Great analysis, Jeff!
Thanks!!
Absolutely crushed this!
Thanks bro!
Mastermind ! Beautiful analysis !
Glad you enjoyed it Piotr!
So good. Thank you Jeff 😀
Thanks Ann!
Very helpful video, thanks a lot👌
Most welcome! :-)
This message was excellent!👊😎
Sweet!
So for a video on how to make pizza, what is TTUTT, in your eyes? Thx Eric
Fantastic vid too Jeff. Have shared on several FB YT groups.
👏👏👏👏 Great Video!!
Cheers!
Amazing! Thank you!
Most welcome!
This piece by piece analysis of “make it count” and Casey’s talk were great! I didn’t realize the specific pieces Casey was sequentially applying. This video is eye opening. Thanks for making it.
Thanks Mike! Yeah, he definitely knows what he’s doing.
loved this
Sweet!
Awesome 👍👍👍
Cheers!
Again, this isn't normally my style, but I'm saying this as plainly as I am because I believe you can take it, and I want to see you succeed.
I love u man, this videos soo helpful thanks....🤔
Awesome! Most welcome!
I love turning my videos into stories. The videos always feel so much more meaningful.. even when the story is just plain stupid. Lol
Story = meaning. Good stuff!
Great video, thank you!
Absolutely. Thanks, Rowan!
