    Just saying Casey, I really wouldn't mind if you took more vlog spots here and there to do videos like this with stories you want to tell. They're incredibly insightful, and would obviously be worth it in place of a "traditional" vlog. Keep up the great work!

    Casey Neistat was right! "Gear Doesn't Matter"
    I Joined the Division journalism and I was in the category of video director ( TV Broadcasting) . I have doubts of me winning because all I had was a point and shoot camera and an action camera . While the other contestants had big DSLR's and huge Tripods. But in the end we won victorious
    The CAMERA only serves the story
    Story is golden!

      THIS IS SO TRUE.
      Last time when my school sent me to join this Regional Contest on our town. I was on the category of Photo Journalism, I had doubts of me winning. Because almost everybody but me has a complete and much bigger cameras/DSLRs. But in the end, I still won. I was very speechless especially when my name was announced on the stage, take note, it was a big event and theres a lot of people of a lot of places. But still, maybe it is still all about the content and story of it. :)

    watched this(and many other of caseys videos) back in 2015...got really interested in filmmaking and content creation in general. borrowed my moms phone learned framing and composition.learned editing.treid vlogging,shot and edited something somehow.later got myself a budget dslr and learned more and more of this craft....now in 2020 i started to completely focusing my life around filmmaking, i always find myself always coming back to casey...his videos speak to me in a different way...just finished my first client work and more to go!
    thankyou casey for inspiring all of us!!!

    Pretty late to the game with your videos, but I'm totally in love with your style. I could watch your vlogs, etc, all day long. So well shot and edited, very inspiring. I love when you do the time lapse and b-roll stuff of NYC. such a feeling of excitement.
    Your comments about the story being everything, really makes me think we've just scratched the surface of this medium. There are so many stories out there to be created and told. Awe-inspiring to think about this new era of technology we are in.
    I showed my wife this particular episode. She has a degree in film, is a middle school teacher now, and often incorporates film and video creation in her classroom. She found this really compelling and is considering showing some of your vids to her kids.
    Realize you get thousands of comments a day, but we really get a kick out of, and enjoy your videos a lot.

    My husband and I watch your videos every evening after dinner. I never realised that there's a creator in all of us until I started watching your daily vlogs. Your commitment and drive is inspiring and has motivated me to create my own channel here on UA-cam. I'm a textbook introvert and shy by nature, but creators like yourself have shown me that I can be an artist and do what I love without having to jeopardise who I am, or give up my sacred privacy. I guess I just wanted to thank you - whether you see this or not - and let it be known that you've touched a persons life. So thank you Casey, you're such a dude. x

    THIS. All of this is so true. While getting my degree in economics at uni, I spent every free moment playing in iMovie, bought a Canon HF10, and built a 35mm film adapter for it so I could film with a nifty-fifty... fast forward to today and I own a video production company, have some pretty awesome clients, cool gear, and then vlog for fun on the side with just an S120. Completely self taught - you do not need to go to film school if you're passionate and self motivated.

      If someone could jump in and answer this, it would be great. I am very new to video creation. It looks like most of Casey's timelapses are really sped up video vs a string of individual pictures to me. I think that because most of the time the footage returns to normal speed (video) and that can't be done using individual pictures. Is this a correct assumption. TIA.

    You forgot probably the most important part. Editing. How to make your boring shots look cool. Sure you might say story > Everything, but thats not the case. Its more like Editing = Story.
    Very good editing can improve a mediocre story and vice versa.

    • @clayestes4640
      @clayestes4640 8 років тому +2

      +Chuan Eston I think maybe you can make the story with editing but you don't always need editing to make your story.

    • @Vairlocom
      @Vairlocom 8 років тому +8

      Clayton Estes Editing and Story are the main essential parts to a movie. Forget about the gear. Casey says gear doesn't matter so he shows us what camera to use. lol He should have just focused on how to tell a story and how to incorporate that into editing.

    • @BrianRamirezramdigity
      @BrianRamirezramdigity 8 років тому +1

      +Chuan Eston like how he grabbed all that different media and put them on a timeline it's a hassle. but casey your amazing for doing that

    • @16bitDec
      @16bitDec 8 років тому

      +Chuan Eston The editing only helps the story for those who don't have 6 hours to watch something that tells a story something edited can in 10 seconds! But I agree, Editing is vital to getting the message to the viewer, clearer and better!

    • @ActiumFilms
      @ActiumFilms 8 років тому +4

      +Chuan Eston Editing is one of those things that serves the story. Therefore, story is still the most important part.

    BUT... and this is a great video Casey!, once you have that great Story and get how to communicate it in a powerful way... you'll always want to get the gear that removes as many technical obstacles as you possibly can! VanGogh used chunks of coal and sketched on burlap... until he gained access through his brother, to the best pigments available :) ALL the gear in the world won't make anyone a great photographer or story teller, BUT if you're already a great story teller, then great gear enhances that exponentially :) ONE joy of "making it" (well below your level), is having access to top gear :) LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!

    Creating a video story is like typing a good story on a computer. At first you're going to get all caught up on the technical bits like what computer to use and what operating system and what the heck is word processing. But in the end, you're going to have to learn to use words to build sentences that follow a theme and tell a story - and figuring out that story is every bit as hard as writing up a truly first rate essay. Most people are going to hate it and give up. The rest are going to put together some really painful to watch videos that will get better with practice. Lots and lots of practice... and rework - just like that essay class that most people hate so much. Stick with it, and you'll get good at it. And then you'll realize you could have written just as good an essay using a pencil and paper from the bin.
    That is to say, don't buy fancy camera gear until you can tell a good story using just your phone.

    • @priyapulikkal3749
      @priyapulikkal3749 8 років тому +1

      +Fraktallity - Inconsistent vlogs I think you can take any shot and if edited well, you could make a story out of it. Or show your surroundings at least. For example, with caseys stuff. When he is at the beach, he will have unfocused/shaky shots, or close up shots of his surroundings. And just from editing those together it shows the viewer the environment he is in. It's a bit elaborate but hopefully that made some sense haha

    • @Fraktallity
      @Fraktallity 8 років тому
