I am just finishing a complete sewing room revamp. Before, my fabric was everywhere in no order and not by color. Now, I have it sorted and in one spot. What a difference and such a great feeling that I can put my hands right on it. What a job!
Labor Day, used to travel to visit family. This year, cleaned house and had a lazy afternoon. 2 and a half inch double fold. Sew to the front and hand stitch to the back.
Hi Pat, I know you don't control the ads in your youtube, but just so you are aware, you had 2 or 3 ads in your 20 minute youtube. Stitchin'Mommy on her last floss tube (#144) mentioned something about being able to go into settings & change the ads from coming in the middle of her floss tube. I love my virtual friends! So glad to see your progress!
Thanks Pat for your uplifting attitude. Fell and broke my wrist this weekend. Surgery this week. Fortunately my left hand. I think I might still be able to sew. We can do hard things!
If there is ever a good time to break your wrist (not!), at least you have this amazing example of how to get things done and what kind of attitude can be done, by the most gracious of ladies! Get well soon!
On Laborday I remember how grateful for unions that fought for Labor rights, minimum wage, 5 day work week, OSHA- for work place safety, child labor laws, holiday weekends, sick time, vacation time. I think of the people who were injured and lost their lives in the fight for worker rights. That is Labor Day to me
Wanted to say I'm thinking I will use the smaller binding width for my wall hangings! They just need those slender strips anyway. Thanks again for another great tip :)
I've been really enjoying all your posts about your sewing studio refresh! Inspiring really. However, I'm SEW busy sewing, I don't want to stop to organize my space. I know there are areas that need some love. I will definitely get to it soon. Also, I'm so blessed! You are an amazing teacher! I'm so thankful for all the things you have taught me. The information about binding is so helpful!
My fav is double folded bias binding cut 2” or 2 1/8” wide strips. Machine sewn on front hand sewn on back. I do also like the extras like flanges and piping.
I am always late since we don't get in our email. So frustrating you tube stopped it. Thank you so much Pat for what you do and all you do. You are an inspiration.
I bet Gregg is glad that you're not keeping the Barbie quilt. (lol). Wish I had someone to make a Barbie quilt. I made a nice Amazon order today which started with the bookstand you showed a few days ago, plus several other things I suddenly needed. I finished my Rainbow quilt, and it is going in the mail tomorrow. Once it is received I will post pictures to the FB group. I am thrilled with how it turned out. Thank you so much for all you do for all of us.
Thank you sew much for the explanations of the different bindings. I am going to try the single binding, and knowing how bias strips will fray less from wear. I love your videos and how your personality is uplifting.
Binding is my happy place. I've heard Sherri McConnell say she revisits her quilt while she binds. I think that's a great way of looking at it. I also like the thought of Harlem back to the way my grandmothers did it. They didn't have a Juki, but they did have a desire to do amazing handwork. I have my Maw Maw's Singer treadle my husband refinished for me. He did everything except the flywheel because that's what she would have touched. My goal is to do a quilt of value for his 30 year Navy service on that machine.
It’s always a game to get the piecing seams to not end up in the corners when putting on the binding. I have a drawer full of extra bindings. I find many things to use for other then binding another quilt.
I do double the binding and sew it on the back then take it to the front and sew it on. It is quicker for me to do it, especially if I am in a hurry to finish it. I really love your videos and the helpful hints you share.
I always use a 2 1/2" double binding. I sew it to the back then turn it to the front and sew it again. I think I will have to try the single binding on my mini quilts. Love your explanation about using bias binding. Something I have never thought of.
I always cut 2.5 inch strips and double fold. I sew my binding all by machine. So, I start by sewing it to the back first then to the front by machine.
I'm cleaning bins I hardly use. Organizing what is in them because I'm usually in a hurry and just throw things in them. Found some left over binding I can use on a few small projects that have also been laying around. covered up.
@@susanblack1894 lol 😆 yep I forgot that one. Lol I guess so your feet dont get lost in the snow. Lol seriously 😐 I wonder if it is due to dark shoes provides more warmth than white? Lol I looked it up. I was close.... its due to white was worn in summer to keep you cooler, so basically vacation clothes. Only the wealthy were able to afford vacation after labor day to warm climates. So a bit of snobbery there.
Knowing that the edge of the binding is the major wear point on the quilt why would you choose to use a single binding? (Just curious. It has to more more than just neater corners because of less fabric in the width of the binding, doesn't it?) I also sew my 2.5 inch double binding to the front and turn to the back and hand sew. I don't like to hand sew but I cannot achieve a neat look when sewing by machine - the back side is never even and my OCD doesn't like that! Love my full size Oliso. The small ones are so cute!!
We didn’t do much. Had a cook out just my husband and I. I made potato salad and he made the pork chops on the grill. Staying away from people as much as we can. Do miss my sons and grand children. Do see them once in a while. I have a. Auto immune deficiency so I have to be careful. As much as I can. My dr. Reminds me a lot to be careful. It is what it is.
Labor Day is a day to honor the people in our nation who provide (& provided in the past) the goods & services we enjoy.
Do I NEED and little Oliso Mini Iron? No. Do I WANT one? Absolutely!
I'm catching up on your daily videos. I've never heard binding wear explained so we'll before. Thanks!
I'm doing a complete sewing room revamp because of Mrs. Sloan & her reminders to organize, organize, organize.....don't stop, Pat!

Hi ! Pat , well for labor day, I slept in ! My Husband cooked breakfast, yummy. I sewed/ quilted, and enjoyed the day 🇺🇲 God bless america
Oooooh I spy that purple mini iron!! Purple is my favorite color!

That idea to break up the border was a great idea, also I love smashing on the spools

Love the Barbie!
I feel the same as you about Labor day. Just chillin!!!
That is a GREAT sign!

Wow great information for me. I always wondered why straight and bias binding ..thank you so much

I used my binding for ties on face masks earlier on when elastic was no where to be found.
I use Flange Binding and I can sew both sides with a sewing machine. It is my last chance to add a pop of color!
I do double the binding and sew it on the back then take it to the front and sew it on. It is quicker for me to do it, especially if I am in a hurry to finish it. I really love your videos and the helpful hints you share.

I spent Labour Day making chili sauce! :)

Me, too ,Cecilia.
I do, too. Arthritis doesn't let me do any other way.

I use 2.5 inch binding. Fold in half and sew to the quilt. If the quilt is very thin. I will use 2 1/4. But the batting has to be very thin.
Thanks for the tutorial on binding
Labor day is supposed to also be the closing date for your pool and the end of grill season (which never applied to me lol). We grilled out.
oh ! And remember don't wear white after labor day . Why 😂?

Can you show us/tell us about that red cart/cabinet behind you? Love the look of it.

Have to use bias binding on curved edges and rounded corners.
I use 2 1/2 inches.

How to get the Barbie pattern?
We are stil isolating and staying home but right now more fires around the State of CA and smoke and ash are taking over the skies most days.
hi i finally made it on time!
I have a panel for Cruella. What does that say about me? lol And what do I do with it? It's a bit scary methinks!
I do double binding but I don't know why.
Hello from Indiana

they are called Compression gloves. get at amzn.to/4d18LTD
@@PatSloan thank you so much
2.25”
You better be careful if you are going to take a walk last time it did not turn out well.
Hi from nj
I was told by grandma and mother to do double binding because the binding wears out first and double binding doesn’t wear at as fast as single.
It is actually all about the BIAS and not if it is single or double
just way too many commercial interruptions at critical explanation points...
