Thanks for the video, I bought a couple of cheap component cables hoping to get one that works properly (none did without massive interference), didn't even think of converting my old 360 cable, lol. What I also did was cut the grey flexible piece off the 360 cable which will then allow you to slide the black Xbox cover over, then solder the wires, etc. Reassemble the metal shielding & slide the cover back over it. Makes it look very neat & gives it that little extra protection.
yeah those cheap cables suck! but yeah i meant to reuse the black cover piece but i spaced it while filming and didnt want to un-solder and re-solder so it got the hot glue treatment lol... glad it all worked out for you thanks for your support!
Excellent. Component kits (good ones) for the original box are rare as hens teeth, while 360 component cables are like toss-out items anywhere you find them. I probably have the parts to blend almost half a dozen of these. Thankyou for this.
one real small small gripe is putting RGB in the title. Most component inputs on TVs are not RGB but rather YpBpr. Instead of being for color, the inputs are for Luma, difference between blue and Luma and difference between red and luma. Basically there is no green input as green is made from the red and blue. As I said, it's a small small gripe that does not detract from the amazing video, I just like having facts more clearly defined
+catch_2030 yea man no problem its understandable though for people searching YpBpr might not be their first thought anyways i very much appreciate the support!
Dude this is awesome, i just did it and wow it blew my mind, everything looks amazing, thank you so much you brought new life to my xbox, greetings fro mexico city.
Thanks so much for the tutorial! I just finished making a component cable out of an old Xbox composite cable and two RCA cables. Levered the housing off the shielding with a flathead and swung the shielding open. Folded a bit of the shielding at the back so it opened up on one side. Drilled a hole through rubber and threaded the new wires in through the hole. Switched the VGA connection to Pr and used the new wires for Pb and Y. Switched the ground and added the new one and worked first try! Really wish I could have found my magnifying glass. Marked everything with coloured electrical tape.
Your the first iv heard of to actually use 2 rca cables! But as you know it's the same just gotta be more vigilant with the colors, but sounds awesome man! I appreciate the comment! Happy modding
Gave this a shot and had it work first time! All for about €5. I used one of the cheap component cables so it made the job easier. Thanks for the great tutorial
I came here to thank you, i did it with a wii component cable so i had to join three grounds to one cable, anyways EVERYTHING is working fine, now i can finally play in 720p thanks to you! ;)
Thanks man, yeah I understand, truth is I was filming and soldered it all back then didn't want to re-do it. Pretty sure I mentioned that that cover could be re-used. Just a mess up. On another note that cable is still holding up fine despite it being ugly as f**k..
People can do their shit however they like. However no matter how much I believe that statement, anytime anyone uses hot glue on electronics I get instantly triggered.
There's one place where hot glue is the right thing to use, and that's where wires are soldered down to a connector. It keeps the wire from bending and breaking at the solder point. That being said, it was still pretty well done for a big blob of glue. And yeah, I was wondering how he was going to put that stuff back on after he had already soldered the wires down. So if you want to try, either put it on before you solder anything, or cut down one long side and wrap it on. (The new wire is probably too big to push through the strain relief anyhow.) But I just checked and I already have an Advanced AV and an HD AV, so I don't need to do any of this unless I want VGA, and that would be a bit harder. Still good to know that the connector has all pins and can be easily reused.
Took me a few tries but i got it my cable working and looking almost like a normal cable. It made it so my xbox would work on my new oled TV, where the cheap component cable wouldn't! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the Tutorial. My Cable Works like a charm. I also desoldered that SP-DIF Connector and hooked it up to the required Pins via Short cables and even that works Perfect. Thank You very much!
The Front of the SP-DIF(Toslink) Connector facing towards you! I Soldered Pin 3 (XBOX Connector) to the right Pin/Pin 1 of The Toslink Connector. You also need to Connect Pin 13 VCC which is +5V (XBOX Connector) to the Left Pin/Pin 3 of the Toslink Connector and Pin 23(XBOX Connector) to the Middle Pin of the Toslink. The 2 bigger Pins from the Metal Casing of the Toslink Connector are supposed to be Soldered to a PCB/Mainboard, but for now, i just bend them down. If done right, the Toslink Connector should light up Red, while the Console is Running.
Aght, for real bro there is absolutely no way in hell I'm going to do all of this, not when you can get an official Xbox HDMI kit for like 25 bucks. However this is some impressive stuff, so I'm still going to give you a thumbs up cuz well I'm not willing to go through all the problem of doing this entire mess I'm pretty sure someone else is and this video is really good at explaining what you got to do step by step.
Yeah, iv never had one of those adapters so I can't really speak on their quality but from what I have read they do have artifacts, but only really picky people would care. But thank you I tried to make it as straightforward and easy to follow as possible though I have had a few people tell me it's not easy at all to follow so idk different ways of thinking. My only regret is not adding back in the rubber connector piece... it was always my intention, but this video shows literally the very first time this mod was ever done (to my knowledge anyways, it was talked about on forums) and my soldering skills back then where sub par at best. I did eventually go back and add in the piece years later so the hot glue held up well anyways I appreciate you checking out the video and giving it a thumbs up!
As it happens, I ended up with 2 Xbox 360 cables in a bunch of stuff I got from a friend. 1 was the HD cable like you use here and the other was just a regular RCA L-R audio and video cable. I have another regular Xbox cable that I am going to attempt this with if I can find it. I knew someone would know how to modify the 360 cable! Thanks for this. I'll edit this after I find my cable and do the mod. Also I am going to try to save the cover and try to put it back together, although it shouldn't matter since it's going to be behind the Xbox and no one will see it! LOL I always watch the videos at least once, if not twice before I attempt any mod! It's just the right thing to do! LOL EDIT: So I did this mod and it worked like a charm! Can definitely see the difference! I don't like the fact that all the ground wires are a bit bigger than the others. I haven't closed my connector up as of yet, because I think I am going to use some slightly smaller wires and re-do the ground wires. I have original Xbox connector cover on the wire, so when I get finished I will be able to put the shielding on and then the cover so it will look more original. Thanks again for this video. Liked.
I appreciate you watching. Yeah I always meant to re-use the connector piece but after I started to solder I realized I forgot to put it on so I just said oh well and covered it in hot glue. But it definitely looks nicer with the original connector in place. Glad to hear you got it all up and running. To make the grounds smaller you can just un-braid them and cut them till you get your desired size that's what iv done. Thanks for watching
I build this and it work great. The soldering to the XBOX connector Was a bit hard without melting the plastic. I cut the whole xbox 360 connector of and strip the cable. So I was able to use the original plastic from xbox conector and it looks like it was shipped like this.
Yeah I forgot to put the plastic back on during the video and didn't want to remake the whole thing. Years later I did go back and put that plastic connector piece on haha. Glad you go it working! The soldering is a bit tricky
I would highly recommend de-soldering the wires from the 360 connector which will leave them ready to be soldered to the other connector Original XBOX. A few years later and the Originals just get more expensive. This is a $6 (+time) investment from my local goodwill. It feels like they have both of these cables all the time. Also, many of the aftermarket cables do not have all the pins in them so you are much better of getting the genuine Microsoft parts. Thanks for posting this!
Yeah you could desolder them, haven't did this in awhile, but I do know that things could of been done better, such as leaving the connector housing in place, which was the intention originally but when your making a video it got forgotten then I just said screw it! I used to find the cables at goodwill, I remember there being stacks of brand new Xbox 360 cables, but nowadays I rarely find any cables for any system makes me wish I would of bought them then. But that was well before I even considered this mod. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and thank you for checking out the video!
Thanks for the video, i cut the head off my 360 cable only to realize it wasn't a genuine one LOL all the colors were different so out came the multimeter. just a TIP for anyone else its easier to pull the rear silver metal bit off the original xbox cable and then u dont have the bend the front steel piece at all
I am so pissed, I apparently did this backwards because instead of making the wiring diagram as if the soldering points were facing me, this diagram is as if I was looking at the cord from the side that plugs into the console. Really stupid. I had to think as if I was looking at a mirror. Once I rewired it a second time, everything worked perfectly. Also flux is important and also cleaning the contacts afterwards.
yeah well i didnt make the diagram but i should of specified, i dont remember having a problem, but i see areas i could of improved upon, either way glad you figured it out
So even though the picture is of the xbox side, you're supposed to look at the numbers from the side you're soldering on? So the upper left on the soldering side is 1?
Luckily for me i had the official 360 cables lying around. I didnt need them anymore since i recently got an elgato because before i only had a component video recorder and now i have both for that and HDMI. I thought i would have no more use for those cables but then i discovered this video. It had a couple setbacks (I mixed up the positive and ground pins for the red video cable at first so i was scared i broke it when i tried it out) but it once i got it right it worked like a charm and im very happy with the results in quality! I even managed to preserve the metal shielding and the plastic/rubber part of the original XBOX connector and put it on the new cable so it looks SUPER clean. ...Now onto finding a good S-Video cable for my N64 xD
A bit late to the party, but I want to take my original Xbox connector, cut off the 360 connector from it's AV cable and solder the orignal connector onto the 360 cable. what pins are used by the video RCA cable aka the yellow one in your diagram?
@TechnoOnTop thanks for the tutorial! I’ve made a few of these cables (I screenshot your modified graphic, because it’s the most straightforward diagram I’ve found online ), and I’ll be making a few more, once I figure out how to get the mode select switch (so I can still switch between SD and HD if I want [I definitely won’t, but it hurts my brain not to use the composite video connector]), and TosLink audio working. But the first couple I wired with just the connections you used because they had a broken RCA jack on one side (one is actually wired in reverse and custom labeled because the Red RCA jack had the center pole snapped off). Definitely a better solution than a Pound HDMI cable, and cheaper too (Xbox composite cables and Xbox 360 Component cables are plentiful and cheap at my local thrift store). One tip I’d add to your tutorial is to double check all connections with a multimeter to ensure that a) the solder joint is good, and b) that you don’t have any pins accidentally bridged together, BEFORE you connect the DIY cable to the Xbox, especially since there are pins on the video connector that supply 5V and 12V. Also note that the graphic has pins numbered as if you’re facing the side of the connector that plugs into the Xbox, but you can orient yourself properly if you count from the audio connection pins on the back.
Yeah adding a switch would be a cool thing, but wouldn't you need to add 3 more connectors for the composite? Another solution is just to add to the console rather then the cable, also iv seen a guy on the of Xbox forums actually use the 360 side of the connector housing to add the digital audio which looked pretty good. Yeah this tutorial is pretty old and I made it when I was still learning definitely a good idea to test the connections with a multi meter and visually the soldering is somewhat delicate, it was actually the first time I had ever built one. Iv only built 2 to date and I fixed the connector housing and the one in the video only took me a few years to be bothered by it haha. Glad you like my modified pinout guide, it was and still is pretty straightforward to me but I know others have had issues with it, iv actually condensed it down to a simple cheat sheet for any future ones I make, I wish I could find both cables at the thift shops iv only managed to find one recently and that good will wanted $10 for it I just laughed and left.
TechnoOnTop I’ve actually built three Xbox cables now, and used another Xbox 360 cable and the connector from a cheap Chinese PlayStation 2 component cable to build a high quality component output for the PlayStation 2 as well (no wavy picture and audio buzz, oh yeah!). I have to say, that compared to the construction of the Xbox component cable, the soldering for the PlayStation 2 component was really technically challenging, and would have been much come difficult without my helping hands, soldering tweezers, and a hemostat. The cable works beautifully with the $10 PlayStation 2 Fat I picked up on a recent trip to the thrift store (needs a new DVD drive and bezel, but I’m just going to forego that and softmod the console so it can play games off of a 2TB internal hard drive connected to a SATA modded Sony network adapter [I have several I picked up for $2/each when a local pawn shop closed down] as a Christmas present for a friend [he’s getting an LCD HDTV and a modded 2TB Xbox as well, because who says handmade Christmas has to be a badly knitted sweater or crocheted booties]). My Goodwill actually had two 360 cables with two different prices on them and I pointed it out to the cashier and she gave me the $3 price each for both instead of the $7 one was labeled. And I got an Xbox 360 VGA cable there today for $3 as well. Prices at the shops are definitely dependent on who’s pricing them in the back, so it pays to get chummy with the staff (especially the ones shelving items and the cashiers).
I had people request a tutorial on making a Ps2 component cable, but the cheap component cables I bought works just fine no distortion whatsoever, so I just let that idea go, the only way it's gets distortion is on a slim using a knockoff power supply, no problems if using an official one though, nice find, I picked up a phat Ps2 recently with 54 games, from some young kid no doubt it was probably left behind by his older brother because he only wanted 60 bucks for it. Yeah I always try and be friendly with them not all of them can be sweet talked into better deals but it definitely can and does pay off every now and again. That's awesome man I bet your friend will be psyched to get some bad ass modded consoles. My first modded Xbox was a gift from a friend as well and it's one of the reasons I started to get into modding in the first place. Maybe you will have the same effect on him.
I had a go at this a few months back, successful! ... for like a minute then it cut off... didn't bother to fix it. : -( Had the official Xbox HD Pack... signal was too soft and even putting sharpness up couldn't fix it... Bought the official Component Cables for the XBOX, £40+ was good but sadly the Red Video connector was faulty, looking to get some solder and fix it. Just today I got my cheapie £3.99 cable from Ebay UK, works perfectly! No lines/Dot crawl/Squiggles/Blobs of colour etc. I am amazed, they are nickle plated, great quality build and I noticed the seller had zero complaints on these cables. The picture is ever so slightly sharper then the official ones, really chuffed I got a great, fully working set and not a duff : -D HD for the OG Xbox is really nice and notable upgrade over 480i, which is lousy! Cheers for the videos, your stuff is great! BTW: I used be convinced my Xbox was broken as it couldn't do the HD, never understood why MS made 480p exclusive to USA... PAL sucks for gamers, lol!
glad to hear you found some good cheap cables! i never had luck with them but i had heard of others finding good ones. but yeah i agree they screwed over the PAL. but with a hardmod/softmod you can fix/change that. thanks for your support i really appreciate it!
I just got done with this and it works great so far. At first I wasn't getting any red signal but it turns out I soldered the pink wire to pin 24 instead of 22.
Thanks for checking it out! Yeah that was a mod iv never had a need for buy it is on my list of future videos not that iv made a video in a long time now.
i bought some cheap xbox component cables and they black out at random times and the image doesnt look any where as clean as my ps2 through component does
+TechnoOnTop this worked for my problems with interference and noise in the picture. now its crystal clear. saving this video and sharing with my retro console buddies :)
I'm interested in doing something similar with the XBox 360 VGA cable for the OG XBox. Do you know which connections / jumpers would be different for that setup?
This is nice if you happen to find the cables for less money than a component box, but if you find one, even if it's not the official one, it will work just as well. I bought mine a year after launch, its not official, and i needed it for its TOSlink output (i didnt have HDTV back then). A week ago i repaired my XBOX and used the component outut from the box, with pretty cheap RCA to RCA cables, and it's crystal clear, no interferences and outputs 1080i perfectly.
Great video. I made 2 cables they work well but i am getting a very light jailbar effect with both. All of my solder joints are good. Any suggestions? Could it be the tv or the xbox itself?
interference could be coming from anywhere. but to help rule out the TV i would just connect something else component up. then if you could test your cables on other TV's that would help figure out if its either the xbox or the cable. iv never had any problems with my cables on any of my TV's or xbox's. maybe you have a buddy with an xbox have him test your cables? its odd that your getting the same problem with both cables to me that would rule out the cables being the problem.maybe try moving the xbox to a different spot (if you set it up in one spot). make sure your connectors of clean. thats really all i have for suggestions. as crazy as it sounds you could try removing the faraday cage from the xbox it may help
Ok so I just followed this guide and my pr signal isn’t working. My multi meter shows that it’s connected to the pin and to the rca Jack so I’m confused. Also non of my pins are grounded.
I had a similar thing happen to me, all i did to fix it was hit all my connections with some more Flux and the tip of the iron to make sure they were solid.
I notices in the pinout for the plug that pin 3 was for digital audio. Would it be possible too run a jumper rca plug from pin 3 and say 24 for the ground to plug into a coaxial digital audio for dolby 5.1 sound?
Yeah I'm pretty sure you can do that, would actually be perfect to use the yellow composite cable for that instead of just cutting it off like I did in the video. Good luck happy modding!
Yeah... to be fair I had planned it initially. I'm pretty sure I was the first person to make these cables, and the first time I did it was while filming this video. Once I had successfully did it I realized I forgot to add back the piece of plastic, and being pretty terrible at soldering back then I just decided to press on. For what it's worth that hot glue lasted for years... I did eventually fix it, a before and after is on my twitter. Thanks for watching
I just took my cable apart and my wires aren't the same colors as yours. It is an official Xbox 360 Component cable with "Microsoft" stamped into the plastic housing and an official "Microsoft Xbox 360" holographic security sticker. Is there another diagram for this version?
Yup! Also pimped out my Xbox thanks to your other tutorials. _lh3.googleusercontent.com/yHuTaU2RAAf52fcEzLYhdEZWC2tay3tlqewUZofUSx0iDLEgmnAG5o5S0D9oBNMDE8G6z-uUFp0_
The hot glue held up for years would probably still be held up if I didn't take it back apart and re-use the connector piece, yes I originally intended on doing so, but filming and soldering then realizing I would have to film the entire video again when my soldering skills were just barely passable wasn't something I wanted to do. But thanks for watching
I was searching online for a component cable for a Cousin's Original Xbox and the prices are crazy for a good one with shielding. Came across this video and soldering, dissecting; heck yea! But my soldering equipment would greatly appreciate a nice scrubbing because I haven't touched it for a long time but also the rough look of the end product doesn't provide my cousin insurance that my cable won't short her OG Xbox :\
iv never had any issues with my ugly looking cable. i have since replaced it with one where I kept all the stock connector intact just be careful when you take it apart and it will all go back together nicely. its something i should of done in the video but i forgot to put the plastic bit back on. then just decided on hot glue, which i obviously get alot of hate for but lets face it you never see it and it works just fine
I did it the same way, but my cable still produces some artifacts like vertical lines - much less than a cheap China cable but still...any ideas what to do?
Really your the first person to say that. Firstly just check over the soldering, make sure the ports on both the console and cable are clean, do you happen to have it running by or even with power cables for other stuff? I know it's possible to pick up interfence from other devices, though iv personally never had that issue. Have you tested it on another TV? Or even another console? The 1.6's have the weakest video chip, idk that's all iv got as iv never had the issue, I did recently switch to monster cables mainly just because I got them for cheap but I don't think they made any difference from the homemade ones.
@@TechnoOnTop First of all, thank you very much for the answer. There are no other cables running by or whatsoever. However, I desoldered everything (Pb, Pr, Audio) and soldered only the Y-Cable on. I wanted to detect, where the artifacts are generated. Unfortunately the lonely Y-Cable itself produces those artifacts. The green cable alone produces the artifacts, which rules out interference with other cables as the cause. That makes it even more difficult to find a solution. Maybe the whole "China-Plug" is the problem. Any other ideas?
I have a cheaper component cable that doesn't have interference, yeah the color looks saturated on the screen? So taking my 360 cable and the OG Xbox input we'll make the display that much better??
@@TechnoOnTop Picked the component 360 cable up at an old thrift store today (3.00 each). Going to try this! The Ebay one has wavy lines on the screen...Mostly only starts that when I start a game...
Oh nice! Tough to find them that cheap anymore! I remember walking into Goodwill and there where literal boxes filled with them. Yeah the made cables will definitely get rid of that problem!
@@TechnoOnTop Just finished! First I had the look the diagram upside down. re-soldered the wires and its great! Audio does seem to be more vivid also! Thanks for the project, I was getting bored!
Hey there, unsure if you still read these comments, but would you happen to know if I can use a regular component cable instead of the 360 cables, as I would rather not chop up one of mine as they are becoming more expensive and harder to find where I live
Yeah you could use any generic component cables, and you could also use the connector from the cheap component cables, for what it's worth the cheap component cable connectors are well cheaper and easier to bend/pull out/mess up pins.
Man, I have tried this and it works amazing, great job! Do you think it is possible to do something similar with a PS2 AV cable? You should try it. Thanks!
um are you using official microsoft cables? because if your not you will need to figure out which color is which with a multi meter its not something i can just tell you since iv never ran across this. iv only made a few of these cables and the wire colors where always the same for me and for a bunch of other people. my only guess is the cables arent legit microsoft ones
TechnoOnTop thanks for the reply, i figured it out myself, had to ground 2 additional wires and the orange wire was the red color input. btw this was my first time soldering and i kinda got it working! but i will order new xbox and 360 cables for a clean second try.
i will defiantly look into it, iv never considered this mod mainly because the cheap ebay component cables i bought for my ps2 worked great with no interference unlike the ones i picked up for the xbox. but thanks for watching !
Gerg I made my ps2 ones like a year ago but I only get gray or blue color never got them to work i never use those consoles anymore since i got my ps3 and ps4 but i would like to make them only for make sure that i can do it haha 😂
I wouldn't say it's proprietary, but I wouldn't be surprised if other manufacturers use different colors for different things, a person in the comments below successfully used a wii component cable in place of the 360 but I'm sure the color coding was different, a multi meter could be used along with a pinout to figure what wire was which
Does this provide much benefit for PAL xboxes given they don't support HD or progressive video? I've been trying to get the best picture out of my xbox but from what I can see online the component and S video cables for the OG xbox were never released in Australia. So besides doing a mod I'm stuck with composite.
Hey, I'm not to fluent in PAL related stuff, so I really don't know what it will do, iv used s-video cables they will probably provide a slight change, if you want that best there are people doing Hdmi mods, ones even plug and play, personally in gonna stick with component, but I'm sure at some point I may go hdmi. Sorry for not being much help, thanks for watching
Y, Pb and Pr have "Variable" and "Pin XX GND" - Does that mean Signal and ground? I have a Xbox output cable and RGB cable to spare. I am willing to cut each cable and weld them individually. Can I do it directly from the motherboard and have a permanent cable?
Thanks, it is really helpful but the cheap 3rd-part cable I had connectors fell... I am working on a Xbox inside a PC case (Acer Inspire, mini-ITX) + Watercool CPU & GPU I am a bit stuck in my project, can you help me please? The mini-board in the front of the Xbox that has the Power and Eject button with the 9 yellow cables, I have tried to jump the signals using the PC's power button (Red & White wires )but the Xbox buttons seems to be working on a single line and I cannot jump it, positive first or last, doesn't work. Now I have to make 2 precise holes in the front of the Aspire case to fit buttons but I don't want to I simply want to use the Acer's buttons but cannot make it work, I'll send pics of the parts in question if you need
both switches should just be your basic momentary type. it should just be as simple as connecting them up right, if all you care about is power then its just pins 1 and 2. here's a link that talks a bit about the power board and gives you some diagrams/pinouts to help diy.sickmods.net/Tutorials/Xbox1/Power-Eject_Pinouts/ sounds like a cool project water cooling in such a small confined space is pretty difficult unless you choose to go with rigid tubing (which iv never done but i assume its also difficult). the smallest water cooling parts still take up alot of space and there are some errors in their specs when it comes to fitting sizes. i dont remember exactly but the smallest raditor says its a certain bard size which it actually isnt so then the tubing didnt fit snug on it, then when i tried a smaller size i couldnt get it over the other barbs which are the smallest ones you can get already so that porject got abandoned though i always consider bringing it back since iv already wasted all that money on it lol...
awesome video bro, now, here's a quick question: can you do a mod in which the console has the rca jacks for component cables? i'm asking because in where i live no one gives a shit about the og xbox, and i can't find av cables (even the crappy composite ones are expensive as hell) i saw a few written guides arround there but i'm not sure about doing it
those guides use the official xbox component cable box, they just internalize it , but yes it would be possible to use RCA jacks it would just take wiring from the motherboard to them. its alot more work then these cables. that and i could never find RCA jacks that had the right colors (cheaply)so you would have to figure a way of labeling them. but its possible yes, thought i dont know if i would ever make a tutorial about it though but i can add it to a list of what people want . thanks for watching!
Hey I'm currently attempting this mod. I have a question. I ended up cutting the whole connector off the 360 cable instead of disassembling it like you did. What I found underneath the outer insulation is: a thick layer of ground braid, covering a thin foil, covering braided wires. My question is: is it ok if the outer braid that covers everything is touching the other braids that each wire has? I feel like its impossible to prevent that now since the foil broke off pretty fast. If anyone can answer this, please reply ASAP.
the wire wrapping around each wire is the ground. twist it up and solder it to the appropriate ground points, dont worry you didn't mess anything up all those grounds touch each other honestly you may be able to just ground one point (never tried) and be ok that's how the cheap component cables are hooked up, thanks for watching!
Just wanted to tell you: it worked! I tied up the ground signal from the yellow wire to the overall/outer ground and then soldered it to the metal casing. Didn't do a perfect job cause I could notice a tiny bit of interference on the screen. Not a big deal though, you'd need to press your eyes up against the screen to notice it. Thanks for the video guide!
Hmm well that definitely makes it easier thanks for letting me know I had always wondered. Will be sure to pass the info on if anyone asks. Thanks for Checking out the video glad to have you aboard!
Reliable? The cable I made in this video still works the same as the day I made it, I did remove the hot glue and put the casing on recently, and I'm sure there is some danger if you get the pins wrong, iv never heard of anyone messing up though.
Thanks for the video! Unfortunately I ordered a cheap eBay cable minutes before finding this....not to worry. I was wondering, is it possible to reattach the old plug cover/black plastic part rather than just covering it in hot glue?
+Eric Hurley some people get good results with the ebay cables i just wasnt one of them lol... but yes it is possible you just have to slide it back on before starting to solder which i forgot to do thats why the hot glue went on. functional but not the nicest looking. thanks for watching
+TechnoOnTop Ah yeah I get you, slide the black plug onto the 360 grey wire before soldering. Thanks again for the vid, if the eBay cable turns out to be junk I'll definitely be doing this.
Just an update....turned out the eBay cable was garbage haha. Film grain noise and artifacting on screen, probably due to poor shielding. Looks like I'll be making one of these!
+Eric Hurley that sucks man I also bought some ebay cables that sucked so I made these then decided to make a tutorial lol. well good luck with making them.
Just to let you know, I made up one of these today using your video as a guide. Works perfectly! Soooo much better than the eBay cheap cables! No screen interference or artifacts. I cut the original black plug sleeve in half, gonna try hot-glue onto the plug and see what happens. Thanks a lot for the vid!
The pinout exists try Google images. It's been on my to do list as far as tutorials go. Iv been kinda slacking. But I am still here lol. 100$ for that box is pretty expensive considering you could buy the jack for just a few bucks or better yet harvest it from something else.
Thanks - I had problem opening images with their new system but my Xbox died yesterday, buying one this Thursday. Look at these, I do not speak Spanish but easy to understand. I least I have a barely used DVD Drive, PSU, complete shell, ports for spare parts, universally compatible at least www.elotrolado.net/hilo_mod-componentes-xbox-fotos-y-video-insaid_2025889 www.emudesc.com/threads/xbox-para-pantalla.595314/
Hi! Great mod! I tried it and followed every step but for some reason i miss the red color. I tried solder every join again, checked them with a multimeter to make sure the cable works but sill no red color.. any suggestion ?
When you say no red color your saying "that the red video connector isn't working?" seems to be a weird problem. My first advise would be to check continuity but you said you did that. Then of course just double check your soldering to the right spot... Um my only other thought is are you soldering/plugging in the right 'red' cable since there is one for both audio and for video. That's all I got unless iv misunderstood your question. Sorry I can't be of more help I hope that you are able to get it working.
ChengGaos yeah just eliminates inference which is almost guaranteed on cheap cables but they do work for some people. I just wasn't one of them so I made my own.
Great tutorial. I meses a little bit of help. After all this my colors on the screenshot was dark grey. I was able to enable the 480p, 720p and 1080i but when I restarted my Xbox the screen went all black. I cannot see a damn thing and no sound either. Help please.
typically to be able to enable HD you need to plug one of the video cables into the yellow composite spot (which it sounds like you did) then after that you can plug it in right, red, green, blue, red (which it sounds like you didnt?). aside from that just checking over all your connections making sure everything is right and nothing is shorting out is your next stop. hopefully that helps thanks for watching
I just tried this, twice, but it didn't work :( My soldering is good and I double checked all the connections. I used flux but didn't clean it off with alcohol, do you think that could be shorting the connections?
+WEARECHANGEBEDS hey, if your completely confident in your soldering and you have double checked the connections leaving Flux residue won't cause any issues. Is your Xbox modded or is it stock? NTSC or Pal? You may need to switch your settings for it to display on your TV,
Its a Pal console with Xecuter x3 chip. I have got it working now though, I basically got the connections back to front as I thought your diagram of the connector was facing from the cable looking into the Xbox, however your diagram is looking from the Xbox facing towards the front of the connector. I followed a different diagram and it's all working now. Thanks for the video though! Great job.
Unfortunately, that isn’t possible. The reason they are so expensive is because the component cables hooked up to a digital output. Component is an analog signal, therefore Nintendo manufactured a chip that converted that digital signal into analog for the component cable, and so far no one has been able to duplicate it. You can’t get component out of the normal video out, so the best you can do without spending $200+ is S Video.
My mistake, you are correct about the HDMI converters. However, I am unaware of any 3rd party component cables. Could you link me to where they have been demonstrated?
I really dont understand why its not working for me. Very decent soldering job, continuity on all cables, no shorts, musta cross-checked the pinout 15 times. I... I dont get it... I only have audio on the white cable, thats it... EDIT: I had the pinout backward... its fixed
Apparently this only works with fficial 360 cables as the unofficial ones are color coded differently and have two extra wires not shown in this video. Found that out the hard way. Great video though man!
Yeah you never know what a different manufacturer will do as far as colors, it can sti be done but it will be more work and you would need a multi meter to check each wire. But thank you I appreciate that!
Last I checked monster cables for the og Xbox are only about $40 still kinda expensive but nowhere near as bad as they were before I made this video. Happy modding!
Your going to run into the distortion problem still, or I would assume you would. You could use some other decent quality component cables and say the connector from a cheap xbox cable.
? You need a composite cable, which you likely already have you could also use an aftermarket one but they are cheaply made the pins pull out easy. Then an official Xbox 360 component cable. Which at the time I made this video were everywhere for way cheap. I remember walking into goodwills and just seeing stacks of them. (which i wish I would of bought then all.. Anyways thanks for watching
Works all right. However xbox classic has only few HD games worth playing. Most of them are in SD even with this cable. There is a small improvement for SD games but not much, unfortenatelly.
Yeah but I will say for those handful of games it does work with they looks pretty great! Got an Xbox hdmi board recently so will be upgrading to that once I get around to installing it.
Perhaps my iron is just too wide and my solder sucks but all i did was end up ruining two cables... Soldering to those tiny inward pins by the black dividers is fucking difficult.
a very fine tip on the soldering iron definitely makes things easier... though im pretty sure the very first time I did it i was just using a standard conical tip but if you're melting the plastic between the pins your tip is probably too wide. as for keeping the wires in place you could use some tweezers? maybe some helping hands would be helpful also. hope that helps that sucks that you have been having trouble with it. keep at it im sure you will accomplish it! thanks for watching
i dont see why not, there are pinouts not exactly sure how you would accomplish the connector so they would either have to be hardwired on or you could add female ports then just any old male to male RCA cables
Technically yeah, but the n64 only outputs composite, s-video and i think RF too, for the component/rgb output you need to get them directly from the video chip (basically mod your console)
The N64 doesn't have component out. It has RGB, but whether it's usable for RGB depends on the specific board. Also, the cables often only have the necessary pins, so you wouldn't have one with the right pins anyhow. This mod works because the Xbox was designed to output different types of video signals selected by option wires in the cable plug, and because the connectors have all pins and are easily salvaged.
Well the cheapie cables I got gave out. Started off with a green hue over everything then the sharpness of the image went fuzzy... complete shit! Happily I've fixed the official ones I bought (faulty red video signal) and the quality of the picture is actually better on my new tv! I have wondered if maybe the MS cable has a scaler chip or something because Xbox games always looked better @ 480p then anything on PS2 @ the same resolution. Any idea TechnoON Top? Anyone wanting the best picture for their Xbox (and who's no good at soldering) had better snap these cables up on Ebay while they can - think in a few years they'll be as expensive as the Gamecube ones. When they come up on Ebay UK now they go for like £70... price is always creeping up.
iv never owned an official MS component box, but as far as i know there is no scaler chip built into it. the cables i made have no scaler chip and the cheap cables defiantly had no scaler chip.
It will always looks better than PS2, the image quality for that console is really bad compared to the Xbox. I've used both consoles with component and scart, and the video signal of the Xbox is always a lot cleaner.
its defiantly some delicate soldering, i feel mine was sloppy also, i have seen some very nice cables made by others that look factory, but thanks for watching!
hey man thanks by the tutorial. I`m trying to make my own but I have a question, in this picture i.imgur.com/GNLkMuX.jpg the pin 12 that you shoul in yout diagram is pin 24 and it says DC RETURN, it shows that the Y ground is pin 20 or 10 on your diagram. er, so the last one 12 is just ground right? its not a voltage pin
i would avoid using a different diagram not saying its not right but i made mine to be as user friendly as possible. also looking at both mine and that one would just become confusing. but yes pin 12 is just a ground. on the other diagram it shows pin 12 as being a ground also. hope you figured it out sorry for taking so long to get back to you
Question: Wouldn't it be a better idea to also run a wire from pin 8 (Ground) to the original metal shielding and re-install said shielding? It just seems like you're asking for RF interference by skipping that step. (Also, further shortening the 360 cable so that the minimum amount of wires are exposed without RF shielding) Not trying criticize or anything, just curious since I'm planning on attempting this soon.
No worries, I personally haven't had any issues with any interference, iv only made about 3 of these cables myself and Noone has complained about having interference issues in the comments . When it comes down to it all the grounds are common somthing I learned later despite being pretty obvious .. Which to me would make adding an extra metal shield ground pointless but I'm not Microsoft they did it for a reason but iv never done it myself I appreciate you watching an extra layer doesn't hurt
i just picked up a cheap component cable ... it's shitty. my av cable got a better signal. might aswell buy a 360 component cable, seems to be even cheaper in my area anyway lol.
Thankyou for this.
that they are usually 1-2$ at thrift stores. no problem thank you for checking it out!
one real small small gripe is putting RGB in the title.
Hey! im glad that you found my tutorial, moving to component is defiantly a big upgrade to composite. thanks for your support!
Great tutorial. Made myself one just last night and the image quality on Cerbios is amazing.
Thanks for checking it out!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for checking out the video it's much appreciated
I came here to thank you, i did it with a wii component cable so i had to join three grounds to one cable, anyways EVERYTHING is working fine, now i can finally play in 720p thanks to you! ;)
thanks for stopping by leiuxe I appreciate it! also glad to hear you got it working, definitely crafty to use a wii component cable!
I loved the tutorial until the very end when you hot glued everything instead of putting back the metal shielding and sleeve. Why was that not done?
Thanks man, yeah I understand, truth is I was filming and soldered it all back then didn't want to re-do it. Pretty sure I mentioned that that cover could be re-used. Just a mess up. On another note that cable is still holding up fine despite it being ugly as f**k..
@@TechnoOnTop
I used hotglue + heatschrink... looks and holds nice.
(The new wire is probably too big to push through the strain relief anyhow.)
But I just checked and I already have an Advanced AV and an HD AV, so I don't need to do any of this unless I want VGA, and that would be a bit harder. Still good to know that the connector has all pins and can be easily reused.
Took me a few tries but i got it my cable working and looking almost like a normal cable. It made it so my xbox would work on my new oled TV, where the cheap component cable wouldn't! Thanks for the video!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for checking out the video!
Thanks for the Tutorial. My Cable Works like a charm. I also desoldered that SP-DIF Connector and hooked it up to the required Pins via Short cables and even that works Perfect. Thank You very much!
No problem happy to help! thanks for watching!
What pins did you connect for sp-dif, pin 3 to...
The 2 bigger Pins from the Metal Casing of the Toslink Connector are supposed to be Soldered to a PCB/Mainboard,
but for now, i just bend them down.
If done right, the Toslink Connector should light up Red, while the Console is Running.
Sorry, i think, i got the Pinout of the Toslink wrong. This one should work. goo.gl/vP4buw
Pin 3: Vin is the Digital Audio.
Great tutorial and thanks for color coding the schematic. My Xbox has never looked so good.
Glad you got it all up and running, it's definitely a large step ahead of composite. Thanks for watching!
LOL
EDIT: So I did this mod and it worked like a charm!
Wild ride to solder it all and stuff.. but works. Thanks a lot!
I did this mod today and it worked out great. Thank you for sharing.
happy to hear thanks for checking it out!
Thanks for the video, i cut the head off my 360 cable only to realize it wasn't a genuine one LOL all the colors were different so out came the multimeter.
just a TIP for anyone else its easier to pull the rear silver metal bit off the original xbox cable and then u dont have the bend the front steel piece at all
Yeah, iv had a couple of people tell me the same thing. I'm glad you got it all sorted. Thanks for the tip!
Also flux is important and also cleaning the contacts afterwards.
yeah well i didnt make the diagram but i should of specified, i dont remember having a problem, but i see areas i could of improved upon, either way glad you figured it out
lol, was obvious to me, but I did check, who would of thought to check first lol.
So even though the picture is of the xbox side, you're supposed to look at the numbers from the side you're soldering on? So the upper left on the soldering side is 1?
Worked like a charm, great tutorial!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching
Just made mine but spliced in a separate hdmi out for the times I don't have component
Cool! Glad you got your cable working thanks for watching!
I even managed to preserve the metal shielding and the plastic/rubber part of the original XBOX connector and put it on the new cable so it looks SUPER clean.
...Now onto finding a good S-Video cable for my N64 xD
glad to hear, yeah those tough iv bought 3 and one seems to work good when it wants to lol
Worked beautifully! Awesome DIY, thanks!
happy to hear! thank you for checking it out!
Following this video, I did it first time! It works a treat. Thank you.
Glad to hear thanks for checking out the video!
I had a go at this a few months back, successful! ... for like a minute then it cut off... didn't bother to fix it. : -(
Had the official Xbox HD Pack... signal was too soft and even putting sharpness up couldn't fix it...
The picture is ever so slightly sharper then the official ones, really chuffed I got a great, fully working set and not a duff : -D
HD for the OG Xbox is really nice and notable upgrade over 480i, which is lousy!
At first I wasn't getting any red signal but it turns out I soldered the pink wire to pin 24 instead of 22.
glad that you got it working! thanks for checking it out!
Great video. Good and thorough step by step. Thanks! I'm still searching for making my own audio cable.
Thanks for checking it out! Yeah that was a mod iv never had a need for buy it is on my list of future videos not that iv made a video in a long time now.
i bought some cheap xbox component cables and they black out at random times and the image doesnt look any where as clean as my ps2 through component does
those sound like terrible cables, these custom made cables defiantly wont give you any issues and look great. thanks for watching
gracias amigo, arme mi propio cable y se ve realmente bien, jamas pense q esta consola se viera tan bien
Su bienvenida, feliz de ayudar, gracias por mirar
Thank you so much I got it on the first try. I used some spare component cables I had laying around and some of my games looks better now.
Nice! Glad to hear, not all games support high definition, a list can be found on Wikipedia. Thanks for watching
i ordered some cables for my xbox original, but there were a ton of lines and flickering with them, will this cable mod resolve this?
+morganiothegamer yes this mod should solve your issues, thanks for watching
+TechnoOnTop SWEEEEET. ill report back once i have completed the cable mod :)
+TechnoOnTop this worked for my problems with interference and noise in the picture. now its crystal clear. saving this video and sharing with my retro console buddies :)
I'm interested in doing something similar with the XBox 360 VGA cable for the OG XBox. Do you know which connections / jumpers would be different for that setup?
unsure about using the 360 VGA cable but i did have this bookmarked for future refrence forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=119841.0
Where would I get those extra jumper wires?
Just short scraps of awg, maybe 26g?
Man soldering the grounds were a bitch but I finally got it. I appreciate the tutorial. Cable works great! Thank you!
I agree they are a pain, I appreciate you watching and leaving the comment! Glad to have you aboard happy modding!
This is nice if you happen to find the cables for less money than a component box, but if you find one, even if it's not the official one, it will work just as well. I bought mine a year after launch, its not official, and i needed it for its TOSlink output (i didnt have HDTV back then). A week ago i repaired my XBOX and used the component outut from the box, with pretty cheap RCA to RCA cables, and it's crystal clear, no interferences and outputs 1080i perfectly.
cool, im sure i would buy one of those box's if i ever found one in the wild so nice to know thanks for sharing!
There's a VGA mode? So you could make a OG Xbox VGA cable? Would it work with any games?
Yeah it's possible, using it requires a special bios patched for vga,
Great video.
I had a similar thing happen to me, all i did to fix it was hit all my connections with some more Flux and the tip of the iron to make sure they were solid.
why you do not conected the yelow to spdif for surround sound?
Personally, iv never used a spdif cable
hello, to return to a rca how should I do?
tnx for this tutorial mate it helps me a lot...!!
happy to help thanks for watching!
Thanks, might have to give that a try.
I was with you until you just coated the whole thing in hot glue, can't you reuse the housing on the OG Xbox cable for a "factory" look?
Yeah... to be fair I had planned it initially.
@@TechnoOnTop np outside of Hot glue Gate this video is pretty easy to follow :)
Glad to hear it! I try to keep them short and simple! Thanks for watching and good luck with your cables!
I just took my cable apart and my wires aren't the same colors as yours. It is an official Xbox 360 Component cable with "Microsoft" stamped into the plastic housing and an official "Microsoft Xbox 360" holographic security sticker. Is there another diagram for this version?
Weird, no I don't think there is, you could always use a multi meter to determine what is what,
@@TechnoOnTop Ok, thanks anyway.
Great vid. Just completed mine and it works great!
Kelly Emond glad to hear! Thanks for watching
Yup! Also pimped out my Xbox thanks to your other tutorials.

You could not reuse the plastic shell of the composite cable from the xbox cable instead of making that structure with hot glue?
Parabéns pela iniciativa, fiz no meu cabo e ficou ótimo! Obrigado
I have a cheaper component cable that doesn't have interference, yeah the color looks saturated on the screen? So taking my 360 cable and the OG Xbox input we'll make the display that much better??
The cable will end up being just as good as a quality cable I'd say it's definitely worth it.
Thank you very much sir! worked perfectly
happy to help thanks for watching!
Hey there, unsure if you still read these comments, but would you happen to know if I can use a regular component cable instead of the 360 cables, as I would rather not chop up one of mine as they are becoming more expensive and harder to find where I live
further to that, could I use a cheap-o 3rd party component cable instead of the original xbox rca cable?
Yeah you could use any generic component cables, and you could also use the connector from the cheap component cables, for what it's worth the cheap component cable connectors are well cheaper and easier to bend/pull out/mess up pins.
Man, I have tried this and it works amazing, great job! Do you think it is possible to do something similar with a PS2 AV cable? You should try it. Thanks!
i do think it would be possible but i never had any trouble with the cheap component cables for my PS2. thanks for watching!
It is possible but a lot harder since the ps2 connector is so small
hey, i need help.. my xbox 360 cables are blue, green, white, yellow, orange, red and black.. what do i connect where now?
um are you using official microsoft cables? because if your not you will need to figure out which color is which with a multi meter its not something i can just tell you since iv never ran across this. iv only made a few of these cables and the wire colors where always the same for me and for a bunch of other people. my only guess is the cables arent legit microsoft ones
TechnoOnTop thanks for the reply, i figured it out myself, had to ground 2 additional wires and the orange wire was the red color input.
btw this was my first time soldering and i kinda got it working!
but i will order new xbox and 360 cables for a clean second try.
Glad to hear you got it working, this isn't something I would recommend to beginners but as you proved it can be done good job and happy modding
Can you make this for the Ps2? I did my Xbox cables like 3 years ago an look awesome
i will defiantly look into it, iv never considered this mod mainly because the cheap ebay component cables i bought for my ps2 worked great with no interference unlike the ones i picked up for the xbox. but thanks for watching !
ChutA7X Tech PS2 component cables are good. It's just the PS2 that doesn't clean up well. Btw you can use PS3 cables as well.
Gerg I made my ps2 ones like a year ago but I only get gray or blue color never got them to work i never use those consoles anymore since i got my ps3 and ps4 but i would like to make them only for make sure that i can do it haha 😂
Only with those cables? Have you changed video mode from RGB to YPbPr in settings?
Is it possible to use a non-official og xbox av cable for this process? Should the contacts all relate to the same thing?
Yes colors might not match, but the pins will be all the same
@@TechnoOnTopnice, thanks for the reply! Especially since this is an 8 year old video 😂 I appreciate it
Quick question. Is the color coding for the component wires standard for all component cables, or is that more microsoft proprietary crap?
Yes you can solder connections directly to the motherboard and have a permanent connection,
Thanks, it is really helpful but the cheap 3rd-part cable I had connectors fell... I am working on a Xbox inside a PC case (Acer Inspire, mini-ITX) + Watercool CPU & GPU
I am a bit stuck in my project, can you help me please? The mini-board in the front of the Xbox that has the Power and Eject button with the 9 yellow cables, I have tried to jump the signals using the PC's power button (Red & White wires )but the Xbox buttons seems to be working on a single line and I cannot jump it, positive first or last, doesn't work. Now I have to make 2 precise holes in the front of the Aspire case to fit buttons but I don't want to
I simply want to use the Acer's buttons but cannot make it work, I'll send pics of the parts in question if you need
both switches should just be your basic momentary type. it should just be as simple as connecting them up right, if all you care about is power then its just pins 1 and 2. here's a link that talks a bit about the power board and gives you some diagrams/pinouts to help diy.sickmods.net/Tutorials/Xbox1/Power-Eject_Pinouts/ sounds like a cool project water cooling in such a small confined space is pretty difficult unless you choose to go with rigid tubing (which iv never done but i assume its also difficult). the smallest water cooling parts still take up alot of space and there are some errors in their specs when it comes to fitting sizes. i dont remember exactly but the smallest raditor says its a certain bard size which it actually isnt so then the tubing didnt fit snug on it, then when i tried a smaller size i couldnt get it over the other barbs which are the smallest ones you can get already so that porject got abandoned though i always consider bringing it back since iv already wasted all that money on it lol...
awesome video bro, now, here's a quick question: can you do a mod in which the console has the rca jacks for component cables? i'm asking because in where i live no one gives a shit about the og xbox, and i can't find av cables (even the crappy composite ones are expensive as hell) i saw a few written guides arround there but i'm not sure about doing it
those guides use the official xbox component cable box, they just internalize it , but yes it would be possible to use RCA jacks it would just take wiring from the motherboard to them. its alot more work then these cables. that and i could never find RCA jacks that had the right colors (cheaply)so you would have to figure a way of labeling them. but its possible yes, thought i dont know if i would ever make a tutorial about it though but i can add it to a list of what people want . thanks for watching!
TechnoOnTop
thanks for the reply bro, great channel!
TechnoOnTop thanks my dude, cool video.
Alt account btw too lazy to switch
Just wanted to tell you: it worked! I tied up the ground signal from the yellow wire to the overall/outer ground and then soldered it to the metal casing. Didn't do a perfect job cause I could notice a tiny bit of interference on the screen. Not a big deal though, you'd need to press your eyes up against the screen to notice it.
Thanks for the video guide!
Hmm well that definitely makes it easier thanks for letting me know I had always wondered. Will be sure to pass the info on if anyone asks. Thanks for Checking out the video glad to have you aboard!
how reliable is this as a cable? Also is there any danger to shorting out the cables due to wiring or the console?
Very well produced
Looking for the pinout on the motherboard to make my own Coaxial output - thanks. I don't want to buy a Component AV Box at 100$ for optical audio
The pinout exists try Google images. It's been on my to do list as far as tutorials go. Iv been kinda slacking. But I am still here lol. 100$ for that box is pretty expensive considering you could buy the jack for just a few bucks or better yet harvest it from something else.
I couldn't find it - only found it for analog Stereo. Since Xbox-scene is dead it is complicated
Google "original Xbox av pinout" the first two images that pop up are what your looking for.
Thanks - I had problem opening images with their new system but my Xbox died yesterday, buying one this Thursday. Look at these, I do not speak Spanish but easy to understand. I least I have a barely used DVD Drive, PSU, complete shell, ports for spare parts, universally compatible at least

my pc dont like og xbox whenever i plug it into the dazzle my pc errors and restarts. weird.
That is weird but I also have no idea what your talking about. But thanks for watching
Great vid. Thanks for this. Nailed it first try.
Hi!
Tremendously good stuff! Thanks for that...
No problem thanks for watching!
Hi bro, I have a question, is there some picture quality difference betwen generic cable an this home made? or only it eliminates interferences?
Great job.
WEARECHANGEBEDS Im glad you got it working, also sounds like an awesome xbox! thanks for watching
Could you make a video on making some GameCube component cables? They're too expensive for me.
yeah they are pretty expensive for anyone lol... but yeah i will look into it! thanks for watching
AncientTech
Actually, modders have been able to convert the digital connector to component and HDMI for a while now.
My mistake, you are correct about the HDMI converters. However, I am unaware of any 3rd party component cables. Could you link me to where they have been demonstrated?

Good work. Gonna try it myself.
thank you! and good luck!
thanks for the tutorial very much appreciated :)
Thank you for checking it out
works perfectly your tutorial with diagrams and easy to follow instructions made it real easy thanks again from New Zealand :)
Any chance you'd be willing to sell a set of modded component cables?
+Retromania I don't keep any extras of these just the 2 sets that I use.
I really dont understand why its not working for me. Very decent soldering job, continuity on all cables, no shorts, musta cross-checked the pinout 15 times. I... I dont get it... I only have audio on the white cable, thats it...
EDIT: I had the pinout backward... its fixed
Glad you got it sorted
Apparently this only works with fficial 360 cables as the unofficial ones are color coded differently and have two extra wires not shown in this video. Found that out the hard way. Great video though man!
Yeah you never know what a different manufacturer will do as far as colors, it can sti be done but it will be more work and you would need a multi meter to check each wire. But thank you I appreciate that!
I was on ebay and saw that they made monster cables for xbox 360. I know what im gonna try. 😁
Last I checked monster cables for the og Xbox are only about $40 still kinda expensive but nowhere near as bad as they were before I made this video. Happy modding!
Would this work if the 360 cable was from monster or pelican?
Yes it would work but I don't think the colors will be the same, thanks for watching
@@TechnoOnTop where can I find a diagram? I split open a pelican and the colors are different.
@@iamlazarow3526 probably nowhere. You will need to use a multi meter to figure out whats what. Or use a pin out for the 360 av cable
Can I use Chinese component cable instead of the official composite cable ?
Your going to run into the distortion problem still, or I would assume you would. You could use some other decent quality component cables and say the connector from a cheap xbox cable.
what's the point of making a replacement for the official av cable when you need one to make it
Soldering to those tiny inward pins by the black dividers is fucking difficult.
how the fuck do you get the wire to stay in the right place while you solder holy shit
a very fine tip on the soldering iron definitely makes things easier... though im pretty sure the very first time I did it i was just using a standard conical tip but if you're melting the plastic between the pins your tip is probably too wide. as for keeping the wires in place you could use some tweezers? maybe some helping hands would be helpful also. hope that helps that sucks that you have been having trouble with it. keep at it im sure you will accomplish it! thanks for watching
Thanks a lot! :) it`s working like a charme.
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching
Would it be possible to make your own rca n64 cable?
i dont see why not, there are pinouts not exactly sure how you would accomplish the connector so they would either have to be hardwired on or you could add female ports then just any old male to male RCA cables
This mod works because the Xbox was designed to output different types of video signals selected by option wires in the cable plug, and because the connectors have all pins and are easily salvaged.
will this cable work on the ossc?
Yes
Cool thanks.
It will always looks better than PS2, the image quality for that console is really bad compared to the Xbox. I've used both consoles with component and scart, and the video signal of the Xbox is always a lot cleaner.
So you make a component cable but not add the optical as well? The Original Xbox was known for it's amazing surround sound.
Yeah probably would of been a good idea at the time I didn't care for it. Thanks for watching
Hi is this mod safe to use this cable on the ossc?
Yes I wouldn't be worried about it as long as it's done correctly. Happy modding thanks for watching!
@@TechnoOnTop thank you for responding.
Going to order original av cable now
What about digital audio 5.1 dolby digital
You could add it pretty easily, not sure why I didn't but at the time I had no interest in it
I thought I could do it but it was all a mess a lot of plastic melted looks sloppy might give up but thanks for all the videos
its defiantly some delicate soldering, i feel mine was sloppy also, i have seen some very nice cables made by others that look factory, but thanks for watching!
Next time use a variable temperature soldering iron
Can you do it for ps2 cable plz
Have you tried buying the generic ones on ebay/Amazon? Iv never had any trouble with those to justify making a custom cable.
hey man thanks by the tutorial. I`m trying to make my own but I have a question, in this picture i.imgur.com/GNLkMuX.jpg
the pin 12 that you shoul in yout diagram is pin 24 and it says DC RETURN, it shows that the Y ground is pin 20 or 10 on your diagram. er, so the last one 12 is just ground right? its not a voltage pin
i would avoid using a different diagram not saying its not right but i made mine to be as user friendly as possible. also looking at both mine and that one would just become confusing. but yes pin 12 is just a ground. on the other diagram it shows pin 12 as being a ground also. hope you figured it out sorry for taking so long to get back to you
can you make me one of these
thank you so much!
Thanks for your support
Question: Wouldn't it be a better idea to also run a wire from pin 8 (Ground) to the original metal shielding and re-install said shielding? It just seems like you're asking for RF interference by skipping that step. (Also, further shortening the 360 cable so that the minimum amount of wires are exposed without RF shielding)
Not trying criticize or anything, just curious since I'm planning on attempting this soon.
Yeah I did the same thing those cheap ones suck for the xbox, never had any issues with the cheap ps2 ones. But good luck with the mod!
