@@Chris-yy7qc I guess all that crazy optimization on the N64 was why many games had a terrible Framerate at DOS-level resolutions. You don't need to be covering components with aluminium or Kapton tape. All you're doing is creating extra risk of knocking components off when flux gets under the tape and causes the tape to slide around while the solder is molten
Thanks for the words of wisdom. I can attest to this happening a few times when I had first started using either tape a few years back. I imagine if I used flux for my removals we'd for sure see tons of components come off when the flux seeps through the boards.

This mod, combined with the recent release of the 256mb ram information, should really make the OG xbox one of the best old hardware gaming machines, especially with homebrew I wonder if the old bios overclocking style of the front side bus would do anything. the OG 733 can hit over 800mhz, and I have one system that technically operates closer to 825mhz, but hard hits to ram activity occasionally results in freezing. I never checked it out to see if it was due to lack of voltage, the bus speed being too high, or if the stock 200mhz ram simply hated being pushed too much faster
To be clear, I refer to the socket style approach, which allows the potential for server grade components to be adapted. With the socket, going beyond 2ghz is now in the realm of possible!!!!!!
I successfully overclocked an old 733mhz pentium 3 to 952mhz. Later on I upgraded it to an actual 1000mhz cpu. And lost performance due to the 1000mhz running a slower fsb speed...😂
Lack of 240p output automatically discounts the Xbox as a retro machine, especially hooked up to a CRT. Wish it was different, but it’s not, so the Wii still is the ultimate old retro emulation/homebrew system.

Got no idea about what you was talking about but that was cool as hell to watch. Plus you make it fun to watch. Not like the dry eyes guy Comercial lol.
What's awesome about a Socket is the ability to revert the console back to a stock speed Pentium 3. The OG Xbox had a 733mhz Pentium 3. So if you want to run incompatible games like RalliSportChallenge or games off of discs without having to install or patch them. You can swap the faster Pentium 3 1ghz or the 1.3ghz Tualatin out with a 733mhz one, restoring the console back to stock. But this is just something I'm theorising. I could be wrong, but I would love to see this get tested. Though I'd like to see somebody make these faster CPU's work like stock CPU's to improve compatibility across the board running games without having to patch them. This reminds of the Sega Genesis/Megadrive Motorola 68000 upgrades where the games just speed up along with an increase in game incompatibility. As nice as emulation and homebrew is, the main reason to play on an OG Xbox is for its library of games.
for anyone wanting to try it, make sure you put your mainboard into an oven at 90° celcius for a a few hours due to humidity, i killed a few gpus that i wanted to repair by just blasting heat from a bga machine on a card without proper drying...

Love stuff like this man. Doing cool projects just to do them. Its why i became an engineer
Got no idea about what you was talking about but that was cool as hell to watch. Plus you make it fun to watch. Not like the dry eyes guy Comercial lol.
What can anyone say but..... WOW.! HOLY SKILL..! You my friend are a legend. You had me from start to finish.
As nice as emulation and homebrew is, the main reason to play on an OG Xbox is for its library of games.
nice I used to make a few bucks in highschool chucking mod chips into xboxes but this is next level love it
This is insane. Amazing work!
You are the Bob Ross of the retro repair world my guy.
Clearing off that socket was unbelievably satisfying
Found this on complete accident. Very interesting. You make it look easy. Nice job
ABSOLUTELY BONKERS, YOU'RE A LEGEND!
Thanks
Love your videos and your editing, and youre good on camera, well done
I wish this didn’t require specialized equipment; I would absolutely love to do this mod.
You good at this sh!t, bro!
for anyone wanting to try it, make sure you put your mainboard into an oven at 90° celcius for a a few hours due to humidity, i killed a few gpus that i wanted to repair by just blasting heat from a bga machine on a card without proper drying...
Wow that is a huge difference
