The “No Fly Zone” Broncos were fucking ridiculous. That whole season they were so fucking stacked on Defense that it got them the 1 seed with Osweiler and Manning at the helm. And crazily enough, the reason I think they should be held in such regard is that when they beat the patriots, they stopped a
“Tom Brady is inevitable” Drive on the 2-point conversion, and if you were watching that game, you could FEEL the tension in that one play more than any other I’ve watched.
Yeah I still remember getting the feel of “Fck it’s Tom Brady” and my awe as the Broncos stopping them over and over even tho they were throwing it to prime Gronk.
@@Wiggy_ton It was truly one of the best games to watch ever tbh. you could even argue that was that year's SuperBowl level game. Wished it had gone the other way (fuck gostkowski that was the beginning of the end for him) but I cant deny that somehow denver had a terrifying front 6/7 and vicious back 4/5
The gronk catch on 4th down i stg bro died and came back to life on that play
They knew that they needed to build a great defense after a great defense beat them in the Superbowl
I’ve not seen and fear I’ll never again see a defense that good again.

Rex grossman had 22!! Ints that season.. defense&rookie Hester still carried him to SB vs colts

Nah for real Bob Sanders should have been SB MVP

The 85 bears being penalized for being ahead of there time is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.
Yeah this guy's list leaves out alot of context even though he won't shut up about "MuH cOnTeXt"
@@the7A7dudethe 2013 Seahawks had a far better defense they could cover man to man AND get pressure with 4 which is something the bears could not do. They also faced far better offenses and quarterbacks with the rules favorable to the offenses
Those pesky 85 Patriots messed up a competitive superbowl by beating the Raiders and Dolphins.
@@JJJJ-he8bz 1985 bears had four hall of famers on the defense alone.
He said it himself,he’s not an old timer. He probably didn’t see the bears play.
What people don’t realize is that the 2000 Ravens and 2000 Titans are the only 2 teams in the 21st century to give up less than 200 points in the season and one of them is almost always forgotten. I’m not a Titans fan (Ravens fan of all things) but thank you for including this very underrated defense.
That's cuz the offenses in that division were historically shit
You forgot the 2002 Buccaneers. They only allowed 196 points
@@justinmathewson3692 true, my bad
Back when offenses scored 3 points a game. Now they have 17 games to give up points in
The 2000 Raven defense is easily one of the most overrated defenses of all time and the evidence supports that as well
Just imagine if the Broncos had their 2013 offense and 2015 defense in the same season.
19-0 easily. Would’ve been like playing Madden on rookie mode
They still would’ve got blown out by the 2013 Seahawks

2002 Bucs Defense and 85 Bears along with the '13 Seahawks(Legion Of Boom) Defense were way better than the '15 Broncos Defense
Kudos for putting that Falcons team on the list. I consider myself a bit of an NFL historian and even I had not heard about them until the other day. Just a team lost to time. Statistically one of the best ever.
You are right and that shows that for all the people who say that defense wins championships back in the day teams like the '77 Falcons proved that regardless of how dominant your defense is you still need a competent offense that scores points
Because they didn't win. They would be way higher if they got a SB, and would be a team you hear about constantly like the 85' Bears
People forget just how impressive the 2016 Falcons defense was. Giving up 25 points in the Super Bowl is truly an unmatched accomplishment.
@MazeDaGr8
Last time I checked the team with more points wins the game. "Defense wins championships" was bullshit when it was gospel.
And the '91 Eagles D was better than 9th. They were absolutely scary.
They were truly lost to time. 26 total picks in 14 games, 6 players with multiple interceptions and 42 total sacks. Just goes to show what a hungry unit can do
06 Bears are the best defense of the 2000s. No other defense has carried a QB as bad as Rex Grossman to the Superbowl. I rest my case.
*_[[2000 Baltimore Ravens have entered the chat]]_*
The 2000 Ravens defense dragged Trent Dilfer across the Super Bowl line and won. 2006 Bears (who I was rooting for) lost the Super Bowl. I rest my case
@@WrathChild72 Dilfer wasn't nearly as bad of a QB as Rex. He was Average. Rex was straight up bad. If Dilfer had thrown 3 picks in that SB they wouln't have won either
Dilfer was cheeks, just like Rex. If your MLB wasnt getting trucked by the Bus or his ankles snatched by TB12 then maybe someone would respect that season. Stop crying.
@@WrathChild72To be fair Dilfer wasn't the starting QB at the start of the season, Tony Banks was, it doesn't really matter tho
Damn sacksonville couldn’t even get an honorable mention?
1999 Jaguars should have made honorable mention
@@RichGannon12 I’m saying. Did my boys dirty 😭😭😭
I am a little surprised that the 2017 Jacksonville Jaguars were never mentioned
Barry dropped the ball hard
If it was the scheme for the 1985 Bears, why did the 1986-1988 Bears go so well after Buddy Ryan left? They were running the 46 far less after 85.
It took the players to make the scheme all good defenses have a scheme it depends on if players can maximize that scheme that will work.
What about the bears 2006 team the went to the Super Bowl? That team was stacked defensively and was the only reason they made it to the Super Bowl. They played well against Peyton manning and if they had a competent qb they would have easily won.
Probably an honorable mention at #11 or #12. They were extremely dominant, but that Super Bowl loss knocks them back some spots.
Had they won
I would have them as the best team to win it all
Rex grossman had 22 Ints that season, defense run game rookie Hester made the plays
2008 Steelers: 237 Yards/Game and 13.9 Points/Game. Super Bowl Champions.
Don't even make the honorable mentions.
yea this list is straight up terrible excluding 08 steelers
It has to be the fact that the Chargers and Cardinals scored 24 and 23 points respectively in the playoffs. I would like to point out that the Chargers scored a TD in garbage time, which skews it a little bit.
Titans 2000 Team was really good but the 2000 ravens also was a iconic defense
Barry is kind of a dumbass when it comes to the Steelers. I realized that when he gave their draft a B this year. The 2008 Steelers had a much tougher SoS than most teams on this list too.
Lol 2011 sf d was better. Only 3 rush td all year
What a gift for a Friday morning
The Hawks defense during the LOB era was just as fun to watch as any offense I can remember. Always something going, someone making a big play, turning the ball over, scoring a damn touchdown, it was good times. They straight up wreaked havoc
I can't help but feel bad for the Titans in 2000. Fresh off losing the Super Bowl by a yard, they had one of the greatest defenses of all time, but not only did they fall in the divisional round, but it was losing to arguably the greatest defense ever who would completely overshadow them in hindsight. (Of course it doesn't help that the Titans haven't won very much in terms of deep playoff runs ever since.)
I honestly think they could have won in 2021 if their offense was just a little better. That was a great team that just got upset by a great bengals squad
If not for the blocked field goal that was returned for a TD, I think they would have done it.
1991 Saints should have an honorable mention.
The entire Dome Patrol is extremely underrated. If the Saints had any kind of competence on offense during that run, that defense would be on par with the Steel Curtain historically. That LB core was just unfair.
Thank you Barry I really needed this
This was actually a surprise watching a Barry video without any real jokes and just focusing on Football. Really liked this style.
Hey Barry! Thank you for another video!
Glad I ran into this segment! Very informative and entertaining!!
Not even an honorable mention for the 2017 Jaguars "Sacksonville"?
That team is literally the reason why the NFL stepped in and told refs to be more lenient on blowing the whistle on fumble returns... And they still broke the record for fumble return touchdowns in a season.
I think that team is #3 all time in nfl history barring all the metrics because that team won in despite on the offense
All that just to get cooked by the GOAT in the AFC championship
Im not a Jaguars fan but seriously
MYLES JACK WASNT DOWN
Karma real though.. brady broke mirror.. didnt believe in jinxes.. mocked the madden cover too
Then we saw him fumble vs Eagles losing the SB on that play
@@aceassn716Idk he went on to win two more Superbowl's one the very next year and one more with the bucks
Overrated clowns
Love these lists Barry.
No purple people eaters on this list makes it invalid
69 Vikings defense gave up 12 TDs over 14 games, 109 points overall, which is 7.7 points per game. 1st in scoring, Yards, Pass Yards, Rush Yards and 3rd in Sacks. The 69 offense was 1st in points mostly because they had a punishing rushing attack and a lot of very short fields due to the defense and a very reliable kicker (which has rarely been the case in the Vikings history ) all the other offensive stats are incredibly middle of the league, which is why they didn’t win the Super Bowl. They had no help offensively.
And no sacksonville
@@StraightCashHomie23 I was looking for a 69 Vikings comment. They are the best defense ever and only the 70 Vikings are close. They gave up just 10 touchdowns and 8.2 points per game while also scoring 6 touchdowns. Both gave up just 3.4 yards per play and no other defense has ever come close to that. The 71 Vikings are the best defense ever to spend more time on the field than their offense.
I was a little surprised on having the 2004 Dolphins as #1, but you really brought up some good points in regards to why you think so. May have changed my mind on the topic.
I was born in 83 so i was too young to watch the 85 Bears. But i did watch the 2000s Ravens. And being im a lifelong Marylander i got to see up close how good that Defense was. They were absolutely dominant. The Bucs around that period were really good as well but the Ravens were a different animal. I remember when they were getting ready to play the Titans in the postseason and they boarded the plane in camo gear. That was pretty awesome to watch.
PS: while i get your point on the 85 Bears, i still think you should have had them at least 2. Regardless of the context, they were dominant to a degree few other defenses in history were. And their postseason performance is unmatched. In the postseason they just shut everyone down. Like i said, i was too young to watch it happen live but ive looked up the stats and watched some games on UA-cam and they were definitely impressive. And before the 2000 Ravens i remember hearing ppl talk about the 85 Bears like they were the scariest defense in history.
I think the 2008 Steelers deserve an honorable mention. Were the #1 ranked defense playing the toughest strength in schedule that year, had the DPOY in James Harrison and made countless plays on their way to Super Bowl XLIII
Sacksonville 😞😭
1990 Giants is a good honorable mention. Played the 49ers twice and held them to 20 points COMBINED in the 2 games, then played MY Bills twice (highest scoring offense in the league if I'm not wrong) and held them to 36 combined.
Yes along with KO ing
Joe Montana for 2years!!
Then Bruce Smith got him 93 afc title game.. I member!
Bleu Cheese over ran*h 🤢🤮
2017 Jaguars Sacksonville defense was better than half the teams on this list. Did you just forget them?
Now this is the kind of content we want
The famed DVOA 91 Eagles. It’s a shame it’s impossible to convince anyone how good they were. They had perhaps the worst coach in history.
I love the respect for the 2015 Broncos legendary defense but even I couldn’t be brought to put them over the 1985 Bears.
Right! That 2015 Broncos defense was super special tho. They faced so many short fields from piss-poor offense and turnovers but always shut it down
@@jaytee4374
Oh believe me I love that defense but the 1985 Bears season speaks for itself. I think they definitely are in the Top 5, 6 though.
- 2000 Ravens
- 1976 Steelers
- 1985 Bears
- 2002 Buccaneers
- 2013 Seahawks
- 2015 Broncos
I also agree w/ Barry that they could end up being the last team to win a Super Bowl solely b/c of their defense for many decades unless rules shift back towards the defense.
@@jaytee4374
I wish 2012-2014 Peyton Manning had gotten to play w/ the 2015 defense.
We’d have gone 19-0.
@@P0RKINS2 Without a doubt.
As a Broncos fan who watched every game that season they were truly epic, like the Bears (@ Miami) they only had one dud of a game (@ Pittsburgh) but the Broncos on offense were so terrible that the defense had to constantly pull them out of the fire. Denver's defense won at least 4 games in the regular season on their own plus the NE & CAR games in the playoffs. It's so close in my view I'd call it a tie but I could see it either way.
Keep up the good work Barry.
86 Giants should be higher. They shut down Montana/Rice and Elway in the playofs. Fun fact: the best offense the 85 Bears faced in the playoffs was the NY Giants. They beat the Rams, Giants, and NE. I still think they're the best defense of all time but they had a pretty soft Playoff schedule.
Did they really or did they just hurt Joe Montana with a dirty hit
I’m currently watching this video while being on hold with the IRS on the phone and let me tell ya, the hold music really adds a delightful touch to the background of Barry’s soothing voice, Barry if you see this I recommend adding something like that going forward. It could be ground breaking
Really good list imo. That 15 broncos team was spot on
excluding the 08 steelers defense is a wild take, Mr. Barometer McCockiner.
Bums. 11 niners d was significantly better on all 3 levels
A great video would be top 10 teams that missed the postseason
Fire video
2000 Ravens were just incredible
for those pissing their diapers over the 15 broncos: i was there...i saw what that defense had to deal with from their offensive counterparts...no one worked harder than that group, and they beat some absolute killers in both the regular season and the playoffs...this might be the best flowers they've gotten from anyone ever...thank you barry
Barry made a great point about Manning...I don't think I realized he was the worst QB in the league that year. His overall career kinda blinds us to how much he deteriorated in 2015.
@@johnchedsey1306yeah it sucked. Manning got hurt at the end of the previous year and never fully recovered. That was not Manning. That's why he retired soon after. That's why I say Brady was more lucky then anything to play at that age. One injury at that age will finish you. Manning is a example of that. He was the clear cut MVP then got hurt and turned into the worst statistics QB in the league. Lol
@johnchedsey1306 As a Broncos fan myself, people forget, Manning didn't get hurt for Osweiler to come in that year. He was so bad that Peyton *bleeping* Manning got benched for Brock Osweiler
@@philgoad5587 Manning got Injured the previous season at the end of the year. I belive it was the second to last game. He never recovered from it.
@dewanewelch1744 For sure, but it was clear early on that it was going to have to be the defense that carried. Hurt or not, we didn't have a qb
2000 Ravens were on a different level
Something that always baffles me about the '85 Bears is How was a team this good only a One Year Wonder??? Yea, I get it was Buddy Ryan's defense & he left but still you'd think they would've competed for more or at least made it back 🤷🏾♂️
Because it’s the bears 😂
@@WhatAG23 yes that's true but I am genuinely curious though
The 86 defense actually allow less points than the 85 one.
If Jim McMahon doesn't get hurt in 1986 they probably would have won the Super Bowl that year too.
Look up the dirty roughing the passer call on Jim McMahon. McMahon had been playing well and very well could’ve made another Super Bowl.
He really put OJ Simpson’s defense at 1 💀
I was hoping he actually would. It would have been hilarious.
Keep it up Barry, and everything else will follow. We might talk a lot of shit and give you a hard time, but it’s obvious you’re putting in the work. Recent nfl vids have been excellent btw.
Can’t wait for the offense version of this video
Thanks for putting the 2000 ravens first. However, I also think that the 2023 ravens definitely deserves an honorable mention if not a spot on the top 10
They definitely deserve an honorable mention the only defense to be first in points, sacks and turnovers in the same season
The best stat about the 2000 Ravens to me, is that their offense went 5 straight games without scoring a TD, and won 2 of those games. The only reason the 2000 Ravens aren't in the conversation for the best team ever is because their offense was complete shit with Dilfer and Tony Banks under center. They are the only team to cut their QB that started and won them a Super Bowl the next offseason for a reason.,.
While the Ravens’ defense was dominant, they faced some weaker offenses during the 2000 season. Six of the offenses they played against finished in the bottom 10 in total defense, and they also faced six bottom-10 scoring offenses1
Wow he’s really upgrading the thumbnail game
no 2017 jags?
Before I even clicked this list I knew Barry was gonna troll😂
Glad the 06 ravens got a honorable mention, the ravens really should've won a ring that year.
There were a lot of great defenses that year. Bears and patriots both had pretty great defenses as well, even if they both lost to the colts
Chargers had a great defense
Dallas also had a great defense thanks to what Big Tuna built
Gotta throw one of the 2000s patriots defenses on that list, Barry. I notice the honorable mention but it seems as though you're bolstering the legacy of the golden boy Brady by excluding them off the list ... Great video as always
as a broncos fan i will accept #2 gracefully lol
I'm a diehard Broncos fan, but c'mon, the 2000 Ravens are the most ridiculous defense off all time by a mile. Any QB can win with this insane D.
That 2006 Baltimore Ravens defense was incredible 60 sacks and 28 interceptions
So we gonna forget about the 2005 Steelers defense
Another thing about the 2000 Ravens is that during the regular season, the offense went 5 consecutive weeks without scoring a touchdown. It is hard to believe a team with such a weak offense could win 12 games, 4 playoff games and dominate the Superbowl.
How is the 2017 Vikings neither an honorable mention or not on this list? They allowed 25% of third down conversions for the *season*
I think there’s 3 initials that explain why and one of them starts with D
My wife’s boyfriend let me out of the basement to watch this, thanks Barry! 🙏
The Saints defense from the late '80s to the early '90s was just filthy.
Lmao @ 1:08 I 100% KNEW he was finna say the Offense was dog shit 😂

That 2000 ravens defense was different best I’ve seen
02 bucks defense is probably the most underrated one here.
My wife’s boyfriend uploaded again!! 🎉
2004-2005 Steelers are underrated, they pretty much carried a rookie Ben that plus a great running game to a 15-1 record
Weird not a single Brady defense on this list. Barry killing his own narrative
This video got recommended to me!
The 2000’s ravens had a five game span were their offense didn’t have a touchdown and they won 3 of them
Finally someone who understands football... Ravens at 1. Decade of dominance.
You should do these for different individual defensive positions
Next video… top 10 seahawks players oat?!
I’m glad you mentioned the level of competition, and although the Ravens were a great defense, they played some serious tomato cans at quarterback. If you look at the 75 Steelers, and the level of competition, they went up against it was unparallel, if my memory is correct they defeated three Hall of Fame quarterbacks and three all pros at quarterback , you need to actually watch the games to get a good feel about how great they were. When you start looking at numbers, it doesn’t work with football ,numbers are for losers when it comes to football . It’s the level of competition and the Steelers played the best of the best ,they went against dynasties
Number one better be the collective of defenses that carried Tom Brady on years he won Super Bowls…
It's crazy that some people forget about sacksonville Tom Brady said it himself Myles Jack wasn't down we clearly got robbed from a sb
I honestly feel like people need to get their biases towards the Jaguars or my city out of their system and actually start adding Jacksonville into the discussion when they do numbers and NOT when they lose fucking games. DTWD!
“This is my list stfu”😂😂
Where would you rank the 2023 Chiefs defense out of curiousity?
not on this list that’s for true
As a denver fan I'm glad you gave the 2015 broncos such respect. I've never seen such a carry job by a defense before. And something that is hard to quantify if you didn't watch that team was how clutch they were. Time after time the offense would put the defense in poor positions and time and time again they would pull out a sack or a turnover to win games.
Peyton Manning was absolutely cooked that year and I firmly believe that with league average QB play that team goes undefeated. Of all the defenses on this list they had the least help on the other side of the ball and if you factor in the era that they played in being so offense friendly I think their position on the list is justified.
Side note: the fact that Peyton Manning won a super bowl in by far his worst year is an indictment on using super bowl rings as a way to rate quarterbacks
Absolutely not better than the LoB though.
@@the7A7dudeno-fly zone beat Tom Brady twice in a the same year. LOB not so much...
@the7A7dude lob had a better stretch but the 2015 was a higher peak. Lob was great for 4 years.
@tannermclaughlin5001 LoB was completely injured in SB49. Jeremy lane actually picked off Brady before getting a game ending injury
How do you not have the 2008 Pittsburgh Steelers defense on that list.
'86 Giants defense = good but overrated. Joe Montana got knocked out in the first half of the divisional round game, and the Redskins played like absolute ass in the title game the next week with the windy conditions, dropped passes, and botched field goal attempts.
Not to mention the Ravens offense in 2000 when 5 consecutive games without scoring a Touchdown!!
Good list and analysis

2008 Steelers suspiciously absent...
I suggest making another video of the honorable mentions 11-20
Could’ve put about 8 Steelers defenses on this list.
These types of videos are when Barry is at his best.
Thank you for including the 1977 Falcons, they are absolutely forgotten about but in terms of Points allowed per game, they are the best defense of the Superbowl era.
