Games like this really show the weaknesses of coaches like McCarthy and Quinn. They excel over the course of the regular season by sticking to plays that work, and that make the most of their super-talented roster, but they fall short in the postseason because they dont add a lot of new wrinkles, so if one of those super talented stars has a bad day at a bad time, or the other team has one of their go-to calls or packages scouted and countered, they're toast. When McCarthy was younger, he seemed to be more flexible and he was one of the best halftime adjustment coaches in the league, but he's become more set in his ways since his last 2-3 years in GB, and predictability is death come playoff time.

Very true. Look at KC they were squeaking out wins throughout the regular season and now they are back in the super bowl again. Andy Reid's ability to scheme up new ideas or at least concepts that aren't expected is amazing.
Dan Quinn can't play defense from behind. He's in love with the concept of the "Box Safety" even when it's an obvious running situation from the offense. His defensive tendencies have been on tape and haven't changed since his Seahawk days. Difference was, he had All pros at every level on the Seahawks that were able to consistently win 1 on 1s in the Cover 3. He's unable to scheme a defense around the talent he has, and instead forces his system on players that may not be fit for it.
His defenses have a history of getting pushed around by Shanahan style offenses. Even worse if those offenses can exploit the weakness in weak linebacker play. From the run game attacking them directly to exploiting their inability to cover stuff underneath.
@@justice5408You should be scared, to be honest. He will play soft zone coverage despite getting smoked consistently. As a Falcons fan, I love him as a person, but he should not be a Head Coach at this point

Hey Brett, just wanted to thank you for making these videos I've never been much of a sports fan growing up, as my family was not that into it and I never played any myself to learn how the games work. I've been getting more into sports in general the last few years and have been learning to love it. I think a big part of why it was tough for me to get into football specifically was not really understanding what was going on in the game beyond a basic understanding of the rules and objectives. Discovering your videos has helped me enjoy this NFL season sooo much more. Having someone break down the little nuances and explain how different concepts work (or don't work) has really opened my eyes to how cerebral and strategic the game can be and has given me a whole new appreciation for the sport. I still have a ton to learn, but I'm actually able to identify stuff that is going on and why. Anyways, all of that is to say, thanks so much for doing what you do. You clearly put a ton of effort into these videos and it does not go unappreciated. You've made a new fan out of me.
"This was the throw that, as a Bears fan, made me audibly say, 'Doh, shit.'"🤣🤣 Had a good laugh when I heard that one. Well done as always, btw, Brett.
I’m a young Cowboys fan. I wasn’t alive to see the glory days. I’m a fan because my father is a fan. He and I watched this game together right before I went back to college after winter break. I was hoping that for the first time in my lifetime I could see my team make a substantial run in the playoffs. My confidence was pretty high, having so many people claim that my team was incredible this year. I was skeptical, but hopeful. I think this game single-handedly destroyed my confidence in this team going forward for at least the next 5 years.
@@mythrapi73 you sound stupid and salty. Dallas is weak and green Bay exposed them on so many levels. Must suck to root for a team that consistently sucks. Need a tissue crybaby?
I was just glad to see Love performing well. The season was rough to start, but the best part was seeing Love continue to improve. I was bummed they lost to the 49ers, but for the team I saw at the beginning of the season to be holding their own against the 49ers was incredible.
I hated seeing 49ers fans saying, "Haha, the Packers choked." No, they didn't. They were predicted to lose by 10 points. They weren't even supposed to be in the playoffs; they were supposed to lose to Dallas, yet they won. So how is losing to the 49ers choking? By only 3 points in the last minute of the game? They had a winning season overall. Love, in his first year as a starting QB, did things Rodgers didn't do in his first year: had a regular season winning record, threw for more TDs, had fewer INTs, got into the playoffs, and won a game. Next year, the Lions better watch their backs; the Packers are going to be a threat.
@@rwwilson21 Yeah, I would definitely argue against anyone saying they choked. They took the best team in the NFC to the end of the game where they held the lead, with Purdy having to string together a pretty great offensive drive to get them back in the lead. Factor in two dropped picks and a missed FG and skipped change for a FG, and the game could have easily swung the other way. Obviously, it's all about execution, and the 49ers earned every bit of that win. But I wasn't upset with the Packers' performance. The team continued to show signs of growth throughout the season, and an easily written-off team of rookies and a first year QB challenged some of the strongest teams in the NFL and didn't fold.
I love how you highlighted the TD play Love made when the Cowboys were in Cover 0 at the redzone. If any play was a testament to good coaching (by the Packers), and an emerging talent using the skills he's been taught- that was it. Getting the safeties to jump with a hard snap count, calling the audible, and making the perfect throw. That is when you know the Packers have potential to become a force in the coming years.
Its actually incredible how arod like that love to wicks TD was, from the hard count, the confident los adjustment, the poice to stand still and just flick a perfect pass to the endzone
So you mean to tell me as a braindead Dallas fan, I identified that the coaches were being absolutely ROASTED by the GB coaching staff after the 3rd drive.
Packers fan here, found this episode late but so grateful for it. Brett you're the best on YT at making the complicated digestible and fun! (For packers fans at least!)
You ever see those videos where toddlers spill a little bit of water so they panic and dump out the rest of the cup? That’s the Cowboys anytime anything unexpected or inconvenient happens. I knew this was over in the first quarter. Any other team I would’ve said they’ve got time.
McCarthy still thinks he’s an offensive Guru. That MF will never build a run dominant offense which Dallas needs if Dak is gonna be their QB. Dak can’t make the anticipation throws and McCarthy can’t teach them. That said, I’m good with it as a Packers fan.
I’m 24 years old. We have never won anything and I get ridiculed for the old fans and the sins of my father before I was born told about our fanbase and who deserve everything we get. Yet every cowboys fan 30 and under actually just wants to die and hates the team as much as everyone else. I just wanna win man
@@MrShuggadaddy yes but the difference is any Denver team that makes the playoffs actually can make it to the Super Bowl. If the Chargers, Jets, or Raiders make the postseason its pretty obvious its gonna be a first round exit. To all 4 Chargers fans out there: You suck.
i came up with an era-adjusted definition of “blowout” that works for football/hockey/soccer and possibly baseball (idk, i don’t actually watch it): a loss by a margin equal to or greater than the average number of points scored by teams in the league that year (or the previous year if you don’t have the data yet). for example, 2023 nfl teams scored an average of 21.8 points per game, so any loss by 22 or more would be a blowout
Decent definition, but this game ended with "only" a 16 point difference, but it was clearly still a blowout. With backups in, both Packers offense and defense were just focused on burning up clock, and were willing to trade points for time by playing prevent and running the ball.
Personally, I'd calculate the standard deviation of points scored per game and add that to the league average for my definition of blowout. So basically add another 4 to that to make it 25.919 as the total. I'm willing to say 25, simply because that's the lowest total at 4 possessions. And I'm also willing to have a cut off before the final score (say... midway thru the 4th) to avoid garbage time run up or window dressing.
Even as a cowboys fan I appreciate the analysis. Though it seems like there was more meat on this bone to discuss. There was so much more to dissect about the Cowboys pass coverage in the first half giving up like 4 different chunk plays (20+ yds). That loss was emotionally devastating as a fan, not quite 7-1 world cup territory, but to the point where when asked how my day was going last week I responded "still not over the cowboys" on more than one occasion.
You can go to The QB School where he breaks down most of those. From what i remember, Lafluer was calling plays based on Dan Quinn's tendencies and killed him for it. There was no way the Cowboys were winning this game without pressure and Dan Quinn's scheme.
If the defense hadn't had that 4th quarter collapse against San Francisco he probably wouldn't have gotten fired. Or if the defense had managed to force even one turnover in that entire game.
I hope you do a breakdown of the AFC Championship game next. So I can truly see the beauty of how the Chiefs Defense stopped an immovable object like the Ravens Offense. Great Video!
Instead, the Cowboys decided that this loss just a fluke, and did next to nothing this off-season. Prepare yourselves for more humiliation, Cowboys fans.
Blowout, lol cowboys were 6 plays away from winning 1. Convert End zone pass 2. Score 2 pointer 3. Recover Onside kick 4. Score hail mary 5. Score 2 pointer 6. Defensive score in OT (to win in 1 play) IM PEDANTIC AS HELL!
I was ready for the game, layed down after the gym for a little too long and I wokeup to it being dark outside, checked the score and I realized I had been blessed, not by a cowboys win but by being spared from the torment of this game. Pernas cursed wheel lied to me.

The game was beyond fantastic. It was a MIRACLE!! The Packers just simply could do no wrong. That game is honestly top 10 games in NFL HISTORY! The thing is, Packers third string players where selling the game and the refs where clearly helping the Cowboys at the very end. But thank God Packers starting players came back out to end the game

You're right that this was a landmark event in so many ways - coaching, coordinators, play calls, execution on both sides of the ball... but for Packer fans not even expecting playoff run thrilled in awe they have a young QB who is going to make for a VERY dangerous ball club come future seasons. And yes, the best talent around the NFL has taken notice that the path to a future Super Bowl ring may be via the frozen tundra of Green Bay.)
As a bears fan born in 89.... A childhood knowing the Cowboys were something worth striving for, but never being that good again beyond those halcyon days so poisoned by nostalgia. And the Green Bay packers. A team that has more hits on the jackpot for quarterback than they do super bowl rings in 33 years, despite those jackpots: There will come a day in my life where neither of you will comprehend joy. That will be the day I feel warmth again. I dont ever expect the Bears to ever be good. That is idiocy, sheer idiocy. I just hope both of you feel like us at some point before I get my ticket off of this godforsaken earth. Enjoy your lotus flowers until then.
As an Eagles fan, I wish someone could MIB mind-wipe this game from my brain so I could experience it all over again. I had 0 faith in Joe Barry's defense so I assumed for like 2 weeks that the Cowboys were gonna run away with it and get waxed by the 9ers again. But on my life just before the game started I looked at my friend and said "if there's one team that could blow a game like this..." They could've played that game for 19 quarters and the Cowboys still would've lost. You would've thought it was a Packers home game Love and co. were so confident. Just absolutely manhandled the Cowboys in every way. And the Cowboys are gonna get much worse roster-wise. This game was perfect in every way
In back to back years, 2 teams that had absolutely no business being considered to win a playoff game at the midway point of their season, to massively upsetting supposedly good teams in the wild card round. The Vikings might be the biggest chokers in football, but the Cowboys are bar none the biggest frauds.
Great video. Would love to see a breakdown of the Ravens/Chiefs game. Everyone is crapping on Lamar but I didn't think he played that poorly (not saying he played great though). Would like to see someone who knows football actually break it down.
Just days after this game, it was amusing to see how vehemently some cowboys fans tried to say it wasnt a blowout. "It was only 48-32. Thats not a blowout" and its like "my dude, yall were down 48-16 at the 6 min mark of the 4th quarter. Thats a blowout"
People wonder how the packers keep getting good QBS but i legit believe there’s a lot more elite talent in drafts but its the developing the talent that’s hard to do. The packers realized what they had when Brett farve was doing his thing so they drafted Rodger’s near the end of farves run and had Rodger’s sit for several years learning the NFL their doing the same thing with love
When you go to the shrine bowl keep an eye out for Elijah Klein, OL from UTEP. Went to high school with him he’s a great dude and a beast on the field.
I want a video on how the Chiefs have completely shut down some of the top offenses in the playoffs. Either KC defenders is 100% superstars or Steve Spagnuolo is a wizard.
Two All-pro level corners to take away the first reads and a defensive tackle that makes every QB in the league try to get the ball out quickly. Best way to beat the chiefs is to target the middle of the field, but nobody wants that smoke.
@@majestyzx9081 Definitely want to avoid the middle of the field. Especially with Nick Bolton and Willie Gay hanging out right there. Tranquill and Chenal are also great.
In the Ravens case they didn't even challenge to run through KCs defense who were selling out to defend it. So Spags did his thing but also only had to worry about Zay Flowers breaking the top to blow up his 2 high safety look. Rest of the Ravens receivers were free to get catches for small yards.
@@jacksonchien1673 looking at the passing charts for every QB that beat the Chiefs this year, they all have one thing in common. Most of the passes are short towards the middle of the field. Nobody's really had success deep or intermittent consistently versus the Chiefs. Just gotta get the ball to your playmakers short and let them get YAC. Chiefs aren't going to get beat deep often but their defense will give up the short route to keep it in front of them. They're good about getting up early and making teams feel like they have to throw deep to catch up. That's the area the 49ers have an advantage with is they aren't afraid to make a 7 minute drive for points even if they're down two scores. Other than that, that Chiefs defense doesn't have an extremely vulnerable area. Just have to take advantage of the fact that they blitz 31% of the time, and 61% of the time on passing downs to get the ball out quick and let your receivers do the rest.
Hey Brett I don’t know if you remember me leaving a comment on your video about how important your videos are to me about 2 years ago. But I’m a freshman in high school now and just my first offer from Akron. I still have a long way to go but I wouldn’t have nowhere near the ball knowledge I would have without your videos

His defenses have a history of getting pushed around by Shanahan style offenses. Even worse if those offenses can exploit the weakness in weak linebacker play. From the run game attacking them directly to exploiting their inability to cover stuff underneath.
Hearing this makes me scared for my Washington Football Team
@@justice5408You should be scared, to be honest. He will play soft zone coverage despite getting smoked consistently. As a Falcons fan, I love him as a person, but he should not be a Head Coach at this point
Love threw off his back foot so many times, watching it live I was sure he'd be picked. Then the camera would pan and you'd see the receiver had like 30 yards of separation.

Thank you so much for the kind words!
"This was the throw that, as a Bears fan, made me audibly say, 'Doh, shit.'"🤣🤣 Had a good laugh when I heard that one. Well done as always, btw, Brett.
subtext: 'we have to deal with more Packer QB excellence for at least 13-15 more fucking years. goddamn it!!'
Jordan Love is absolutely incredible
lmfao nah, he's absolutely overrated...you'll see
@@mythrapi73thanks for the insight man!
@@mythrapi73 you sound stupid and salty. Dallas is weak and green Bay exposed them on so many levels. Must suck to root for a team that consistently sucks. Need a tissue crybaby?
He's gonna be like Stafford, always talented but somehow underrated as t the same time
@@mythrapi73lmfao and who are you?
The story telling in the beginning is absolutely 🔥🔥🔥
The team continued to show signs of growth throughout the season, and an easily written-off team of rookies and a first year QB challenged some of the strongest teams in the NFL and didn't fold.
the wicks throw was everything, the route too. what a play
I noticed the route too, well run
That intro was some professional movie stuff. Awesome vid Brett!
I appreciate that!
The intro with the background music and build up is phenomenal
Hate to say it for Dak, but when I saw those shots of him wide eyed on the sidelines I knew the Pack probably had it
McCarthy still thinks he’s an offensive Guru. That MF will never build a run dominant offense which Dallas needs if Dak is gonna be their QB. Dak can’t make the anticipation throws and McCarthy can’t teach them. That said, I’m good with it as a Packers fan.
As a cowboys fan i knew what was coming after our loss to the 49ers. We played better after sure, but that team was still in there
Can't wait to get a division finals analysis mid march
Super Bowl episode coming by July hopefully

I’m 24 years old. We have never won anything and I get ridiculed for the old fans and the sins of my father before I was born told about our fanbase and who deserve everything we get. Yet every cowboys fan 30 and under actually just wants to die and hates the team as much as everyone else. I just wanna win man
Raiders fan here around the same age, I know the feeling. Hang in there🫶
Im a broncos fan. F the dude above me. Also i wish we could win 11 games
@@MrShuggadaddyI’m also a broncos fan, bro we won back in 2015. Yeah it was a while ago now but it’s not an eternity.
@@tedioussugar384 fair enough but the second longest playoff drought in the league is tough cookies
The TD to Wicks was a thing of beauty and all you need to know about where 10ve is at. Pre snap read, adjustment, execution
i came up with an era-adjusted definition of “blowout” that works for football/hockey/soccer and possibly baseball (idk, i don’t actually watch it): a loss by a margin equal to or greater than the average number of points scored by teams in the league that year (or the previous year if you don’t have the data yet). for example, 2023 nfl teams scored an average of 21.8 points per game, so any loss by 22 or more would be a blowout
I consider it a blowout (in football 🏈) when a team wins/loses by 3 possessions or more, for me 17 points or more is a blowout
You know it’s bad when you make a Joe Barry defense look good
If the defense hadn't had that 4th quarter collapse against San Francisco he probably wouldn't have gotten fired. Or if the defense had managed to force even one turnover in that entire game.
I hope you do a breakdown of the AFC Championship game next. So I can truly see the beauty of how the Chiefs Defense stopped an immovable object like the Ravens Offense. Great Video!
just lamar is a top 5 wprst qb in the league
Dan Quinn in the 3rd quarter wanted to show Joe Barry on the other sideline how to play light boxes against the run. Unbelievable.
I like that you have 41-16 rather than the true score when Dak was stat padding.
Btw, it was 48-16 before they pulled the starters.
Damn, must be humiliating when the opposing pulls their starters in an elimination game. That's when you know you're utterly beaten
I think this game showed us that the cowboys window is actually closed. I think a legit rebuild should be in place
the Cowboys’ window has been closed since Zeke’s legs went out.
It's the Cowboys, there was never a window at all.
Instead, the Cowboys decided that this loss just a fluke, and did next to nothing this off-season. Prepare yourselves for more humiliation, Cowboys fans.
Mad respect that not only did you go there.... but you went there in a remarkably well thought out and considered manner
I have to say the Sinner’s Children on the uprights really undercuts you saying this isn’t malicious 😂
“this dallas crowd is in shock”…. i’m not a cowboys fan and I was in shock 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It was that throw to wicks when I thought “yep, we’ve got another one” as a packers fan. God I’m glad I was born in Wisconsin.
Tom Brady's daughter has held the Lombardi Trophy more times than the Cowboys have won playoff games in the last 22 years. And she's 10.
Watching this as a packers fan, hearing from a bears fan, i give you hella credit for not being bias at all. most respectable bears fan.
Romeo Doubs impressed me the most. There was no showboating after catching a pass. Just toss to the ref and head back to the sidelines. Class act!
I love the technical side of football! This is amazing!

I'm loving the gradual quality increase in camera and location work from this channel. You've come a long way from your Marcus Mariota / Jameis Winston vid, Brett.
Greg Olsen said the Cowboys "Has an unwillingness to work through adversity" which is the most diplomatic way to say "They quit."
I remember in the preseason when you as a bears fan said you'd worry this day may come. Not chortling in the slightest. I feel for you as a bears fan. Having grown up in Chicago a Packers fan it hasn't been easy to like a lot of the fans but I can say with ease you're what I wish more Bears fans would strive to be. Brett, I first subscribed to your channel after watching your video "The Eagles are changing how NFL rosters are built".
Then three years ago, I lost interest because your videos were very centered around individual players. But I'm so glad to have re-discovered your channel. I love the bigger picture content on systems, games, industry trends, etc.
The 2 things I love the most in football: When my Bills win, & When the Cowboys lose, especially in humiliating fashion
As an eagles fan your breakdown of Love picking up the blitz and then adjusting to it hurt me.
As a Packers fan, I'm not at all questioning why you are making this video 3 weeks later. In fact, I suggest making a new video about this game every week until the start of next season.
No matter what happens, the Dallas cowboys always figure out a way to break my heart. It’s like clockwork. Thank god my Texas rangers won the World Series, so that helps a lot.
Bro im gonna be honest, as a packer fan i loved the video. As an aspiring film maker, i loved this more. The audio richness. The dramatics in the music selection and ur ability to tell a story and bring it all together. Outstanding. Id love to talk with you one day to learn frm you

Thanks for this awesome breakdown Mr kollmann. Love the content! Can’t wait for more!
wow man just found this channel this is amazing
A team that has more hits on the jackpot for quarterback than they do super bowl rings in 33 years, despite those jackpots:
There will come a day in my life where neither of you will comprehend joy.
That will be the day I feel warmth again.
I dont ever expect the Bears to ever be good. That is idiocy, sheer idiocy.
I just hope both of you feel like us at some point before I get my ticket off of this godforsaken earth.
Enjoy your lotus flowers until then.
Amazing video! Let’s get Brett to 400K! He deserves it all!
This game was perfect in every way
You weren't lyin' on Twitter. Real good video. Top notch. 👍
What a video. Thanks man. The technical insight was beautiful
I'm only on for 1:24 but it already feels like one of your best videos to date Brett :)
Yes a core memory for 2 fan bases. The 2 biggest fan bases in the league. This game will go down in history.
Yeah that's when dak gets his garbage time stats like always.
Like how u brought up Alexanders ability to read plays cuz now that i take a 2nd/3rd/4th look i can c he knew what the receivers intentions r
Little late to the party but I absolutely love this video, subscribing rn!
Easily your best video ever. This was an excellent watch, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The cinematography is off the charts with this one
As a Steeler fan, I loved this game. I laughed and laughed and laughed. "How bout them Cowboys!" So funny.
On a side note ....Jordan Love COMPLETELY stole Rodgers throwing motion, foot work, wrist flick and release....Like he straight swagger jacked him....I'd be pissed if I was Aaron, like this fckn thief got me! 😂
I work at both the Cowboys warehouse and the Ford Center in Frisco (Cowboys Practice facility) and let me tell you Micah Parsons is still salty about this game and the other players are avoiding Dak. I saw Parsons yesterday. Lol Go Pack Go!
I just want to feel that hurt again.
“Up 41-16 late in the third, it’s over” yeah, I can’t possibly imagine blowing a 25 point lead that late in the game during the playoffs, isn’t that right Cowboys DC Dan Quinn?
What's crazy is that Washington is looking at that joker.
This was a peace of history
