I own many sleeping bags to include us military bags but my wiggys bag would be the one to grab in an extremely cold situation. This video illustrates just how great these bags are.
I have the ‘mummy’ with boat foot -80F double bag version of the Antarctic bag. I got it long because I like to put my clothes in the foot area. I put nalgene bottles with hot water heated to around 180F inside my boots for overnight. Packing some extra stuff in the foot box holds the bag away from your body enough to allow heat up and down the length of the bag.
When I bought mine they sent me some “Wiggy Socks” . They’re like mini sleeping bags for your feet. They work great my feet never get cold even in -15 degree weather
Air displacement was the issue I was having. Thanks for the tip though! I was, and have been, debating on getting some and you just help me decide. Think I'll keep them with the bag as I don't wanna divert from my normal wear.
I read where SEAL Team 10 (mountain) is issued Wiggy sleeping bags for arctic conditions. This is a great video. Thirty below zero F is dangerous and will defeat the military MSS sleeping bag system.
Hey m8! Thanks for watching 💜 One thing is for sure, if your dying of hyperthermia and don't have it in you to start a fire, getting in a wiggys sleeping bag will save your life👍🏻 In fact imma post that in the description.
thanks mate this info on the reality of bag ratings is well needed. also good to know about the airflow to the toes, maybe if you pack some kind of hard shell to protect electronics, if you have something like that in your pack , or a couple sticks ? ever tried sleeping with a small air matt *inside* the bag ? that can work for a version of airflow too
Pretty sure the area displacement in the toe area was my issue. Should be able to fix that by packing the clothes you take off down there. As far as pads go, I would stay away from Inflatable ones. If they fail, and they will, it could be life threatening.
Good test buddy and it seems you're a pretty good camper. Not your first time around :) I like the old school thermometers and your reindeer long-johns LOL The bag is most likely not heavier than the Canadian Forces sleep system. The old one that is. For a ground pad I can highly recommend this one ua-cam.com/video/16t1ANEIW4Q/v-deo.html Now I don't know if you use sleds and snowmobiles and such, or your just hike with a large pack, but that sleeping bag will save your life if stranded with a snowmobile in cold weather. Good job!
Awesome test Bro. Some ppl buy this kinda gear n wait till a trip to find out how it performs. You covered every detail n then some. More impressed with what ya did then the bag js. 👊 n 👍
Thanks I really appreciate that💜! I do its best to test extreme gear in a safe environment before its actually needed. Wouldn't wanna end up down stream without a paddle.
Regarding the cold toes, were you wearing cotton socks? Regardless of the socks worn, were they damp prior to getting in the sleeping bag? Dry feet would have likely resulted in warm feet.
Feet were dry, issue was air displacement. I used the hunter bag whereas the mummy would've been warmer by allowing the least amount of air between body and the insulating wall of the bag, meaning there is less air to heat.
I was looking at the wiggy's Hunter Antarctic bag, as I am am cold sleeper and will buy one soon. Perhaps putting your pack down the bottom of the bag to prop it up may help...? Great vid mate.
Air displacement was the issue. Unless your going to pack the foot area with supplies, I'd recommend the mummy or boat tail style. Don't forget the third cover, it's an extra $100.
@@beinghuman3225 Food for thought. Was wanting the rectangle bag in hopes to place my air mat inside the bag with me, and still have room to turn to my side, with the bag remaining static (I don't use the hood). I still have a couple of my old army gortex bivvy bags, XL. Sorry to bother, forgot to ask in the first comment. Cheers
No bother bud. I would love to have pad/mat inside bag. But my setup is for the conditions at hand, which is why I won't do air mats/pads. If an air mat fails in the tested conditions things could get pretty dicey. Although my hip and knee did slip off the pad I was using at different times, I'm guessing the rain cover ripping and bag getting wet would be far worse. The pad I used is junk, just fyi.

Hello Erin
Hello pp
Would down bootie socks have keep feet AND toes also warm ?
They may have helped, but in the end no. Turns out it was air displacement.
They say hypothermia is a peaceful way to pass😏💞
I imagine it would be.
