  • Agrimony is the herb of paradox. On the one hand, it’s described as a relaxant, and on the other hand, as an astringent. How does it contract and relax a tissue at the same time?! What do you do when you find conflicting information surrounding the herb you’re studying?
Although these two aspects of Agrimony may seem contradictory at first, there’s a way that you can study the herb that connects them to form a larger whole. By learning how to study herbs in this way, you gain the skillset to understand complex plants on a deeper level that unites their disparate parts to form a whole.
In today’s plant profile, you’ll discover:

Hardly anybody has covered Agrimony on UA-cam, and your talk was so full if information (as usual). This tense and very beautiful plant grows nearby where I live in England, and I came across it only a few years ago for the first time. Since then, I've seeded it in my garden and have had the first plants, three of them, appearing this year. They are, like yours, flowering now. I collected some leaves of the wild-growing ones earlier before they flowered but haven't used them yet but your fascinating tal has inspired me..

I love that you cover the astrological, elemental and medicinal properties in each plant, it’s so helpful, especially for those of us familiar with Tarot and spiritual practices of all sorts. Very well rounded videos :)

Thank you this! Herbalism is becoming increasingly important in my world. Agrimony was recommended for an evening tea with mugwort & agave sweetener to help ease my sleep battles. Learning how agrimony works is super helpful. Ever grateful.

Great riff on a plant running it through a few different filters traditions. I've been growing it a few years up in Seattle. It clumps nicely. I mostly understand its use as a blood regulating herb in Chinese Medicine most specificaly stopping bleeding just about anywhere most likely through its astringent action, plus the idea of using it as a qi tonic for exhaustion perhaps after a long period of sickness.

The stomach digestion is for digesting life as well.. so thoughts feelings emotions get stuck in the organs.. when thinking of liver next to bitter plants nettle and agrimony is good to add plants what help it like celery melons leafy greens. Thank you for sharing. / liver keeps the heavy metals in as well because of he is the filter..so cilantro is very helpful to add to it..:). Sending blessings.

Hello, Enjoyed your presentation.. Matthew Wood is a fan which peaks my interest in agrimony.
I still get puzzled by herbalists using astringent as a taste. Classically there are 4-5 tastes. Astringent isn’t one of them, it’s an action. Sour is the taste generally related to astringent. Though I would note acrid herbs often have astringent properties.
Just to add regarding agrimony in TCM it’s classified under herbs that stop bleeding if I remember correctly. Liver, spleen and maybe lung. Interesting that it’s neutral in temperature.
I’m going to get tincture and get to know it. When the herb calls answer the phone 😉.
    Keep up the good work.

Also as I’m finding new plants Agrimony is one I recently discovered. A friend with lifelong digestive issues was on my mind- what might help him, and here I am! 🌀

Thank you for taking the lessons to the garden, Sajah. Brings on an entirely different perspective and much deeper understanding too. Not sure how but I can almost smell the plants as if I were sitting and listening right beside you. 💚🫶🏻🌿
