  • The Crochet Study of Transition & Texture Afghan is a simpler textured based project. As an educator, sometimes I just want to crochet for myself without the pressure. So I looked at the Red Heart Colorscape and thought to myself, what can I do with this yarn and satisfy with my need to crochet without a lot of thought after I have learned the design and just hook and be happy in my own free time.
    Originally, I was just going to do criss-cross stitch for the entire afghan but I thought to myself, I'm more creative than that. So I thought to myself, after using 3 balls, what if I add a secondary colour and a different stitch pattern for that specific colour. Thus, I recalled the zig-zag basketweave from my childhood. I thought it's an easy stitch to follow to satisfy my need to keep myself busy without pressure. So I figured, I would use 3 balls just for the new stitch and then switch back.
    Essentially, I ran out of yarn for this project and placed an order on Yarnspirations.com so I could finish.

    I think what I like about it is, even though there is a front and a back, it looks great on both sides, and can easily translate to different weights of yarn as well. Lovely pattern, well done.

    Mikey, look up single crochet foundation. It’s a technique where the single crochet and chain are done in one step.

    • @mario_lemoose
      @mario_lemoose 4 роки тому +2

      I did a video search on this UA-cam channel, and there are actually five-year-old tutorials demonstrating single, half-double, and double crochet foundation stitches. (Mikey mentions, "... Sometimes the designers ask us to do a foundation chain instead.") For a beginner, perhaps the traditional chain method is easier to master ... but I agree with your suggestion.

  • @mario_lemoose

    Free pattern is nice, but including the yarn weight, method (crochet), and skill level would make it even better. 😊

    • @scientistforscience
      @scientistforscience 4 роки тому +1

      Title says crochet and he lists the yarn name - Red Heart Colorscape - which is a 4 weight. I would guess this is Level 2 beginner as described by Lion Brand. Good luck!

    • @mario_lemoose
      @mario_lemoose 4 роки тому

      @@scientistforscience Actually, my thought was that having the additional information on the *printed pattern* would be helpful to those who might have (or want) to substitute a yarn of equivalent weight. Legacy Red Heart patterns include weight, method, and skill level; for example, see the "Red Heart Candy Corn Bag" pattern.

    So confused as to what you’re doing in Row 2, Section 2. Watching the video you are not going into EACH stitch when doing the front/back posts. It’s clear what you’re saying but not matching what you’re doing. Have no idea what the “texture” is supposed to look like so if we start off wrong, there’s no way to know how it should look. Also Rows 2 and 4 of the written pattern about working across to last 4 stitches is nowhere in your video. I follow written pattern but it seems different than your video - particularly the part where you do posts in the last row of section 2. Also, What is considered the right side?
