EVERY CHANGE BETWEEN EVERY GENERATION OF POKEMON PART 2!! - • EVERY Change Between E...
Yo! So in this video I go over every change between every generation of pokemon Games! From Generation 1 all the way up to the current generation 9! This one took awhile, so I really appreciate you taking the time to watch :) And i'm positive that i missed a fair amount of changes, i mean we're talking about 26 years of games here, so cut me a break lol. Feel free to comment any corrections you have down below, I'd love to see them! Thanks again for watching and have a great day! :)

Bro got plank from ed, edd and eddy as his mic stand
LMAOOO
minor correction- Pokemon G/S was not the planned final game. that came from a misunderstood translated talk a few years back. the person being interviewed worked with Pokemon on their ad/promotion work in Japan and was thinking Pokemon wouldn't be a big thing and thusly their contract would be final with G/S. there was 0 talk about G/S being the final Pokemon games, in fact, Pokemon devs said they had many more ideas for future games and products during G/S!
Also I think Pokeblocks from Hoenn/Gen 3 should have been mentioned! R/S/E tried to make Pokeblocks pretty neat and useful in the Pokemon Safari and with the Contests. Poffins are also similar to Pokeblocks but lack certain effects, and so on with the feed-able food in other games.
..Pokemon Safari might have been a neat thing to add in too, a spot you could catch rare pokemon exclusive to the area and not by the normal standards of a battle. G/S/C lacked one, R/S/E had one, ect.
Good info!! 👍
Agreed I seen this info as well
correction : you are wrong since they only continued to gen 3 only because the franchise did well in the west. The only mistaken translation is that gen 1 took 6 years while it took 6 months only and everyone was making fun of him releasing it by the end of gb classic while gb color was about to be released soon.
@@ejokurirulezzthis is the correct information.
“Adios to Kalos, and aloha to Alola.”
That was smooth.
I'm glad someone appreciated it lol Thanks for watching!! Appreciate you!
Should’ve been ADIEU but yeah
@@violetsparkles5453 that doesn’t sound as good and you know it
Yess
BUT WHERE IS THE BEST POKEMON GAME, OMEGA RUBY?
Gen 6 also had the change of shiny odds going from 1/8192 to 1/4096
Good call!! I definitely meant to include updates to how shinies worked throughout, but it somehow got away from me 🥲
Thanks for watching and the support, appreciate you!! 👍😁
shinies are irrelevant. ugly rubbish. no human cares
@@JoeyParksHereyooooo make a video about everything that has changed between the fifa games for april fools
Gen 3 also added running shoes
Good call!
And Gen 4 letting you run inside was missed
And natures, since only abilities got mentioned.
@@ejokurirulezz9:02 he did mention it
Plus ACRO/MACH bikes!
Kalos was actually the game to introduce rideable Pokémon with the Skiddo farm, Ryhorn walking over pointy rocks, and the mamoswine to get through the snow
Good call! Thanks for watching!
That's technically true, but that was only for very specific areas rather than acting as a replacement for HMs like they became starting in Gen 7 (except for Let's Go). Still, he really could've worded that part better in multiple ways.
Not to be that guy, but you forgot the most important change in gen 2... they added exp bars
AHH how’d I miss that haha!! Thanks for the addition! And for watching, appreciate you! 😁
Something probably worth adding is the changes to the exp formula. The formula in gen 5 was altered to scale based level differences with the opponent and user pokemon. This mean it is easier to catch up lower level pokemon and harder to power level one pokemon. Gen 6 went back to the gen 1-4 formula only with a few methods to boost gains. Every generation since gen 6 has a new scaled exp formula that is basically the gen 5 formula only for the first time trainer pokemon no longer give 50% more exp.
Good information!! Thanks for the correction and for watching 😁 appreciate the support!
You forgot about how the Lets Go games introduced the portable PC Boxes that were later implemented and refined into Gens 8 & 9. For going the need to go to Pokémon center in order to swap out or just store Pokémon. No you just have to bring it up in the menu or in the party menu, depending on the game.
Ahhh good call and good info!! Thanks for the addendum! Appreciate the support 😁👍
Can't believe you didn't mention the best part of gen 7. Which was completely getting rid of the dependency on HM's in Alola. Something that will hopefully stick around forever.
True, true good call! Thanks for watching and the info!! Appreciate it!
Well, he mentioned the Ride Pokémon. He just didn't spell out that they replaced the HMs.
Even though... The ability to finally switch pokemon in and out of the lineup to and from boxes on the fly kinda negated the inconvenience of having "HM slave" pokemon in itself.
@@En4cer2K9 It would've still been inconvenient to need to swap in and out so many extra times.
Plus, some of us don't use HM slaves and find it annoying how we have to waste a move slot on some Pokémon for Cut and Strength, which also can't just be replaced with a TM on the fly like any other move can be.
Was gonna mention hms in remakes, then I learned that they call wild pokemon to use them
Man it's a shame Pokemon Z never came out, it would've been a LEGEND amongst the other games
Yeah it is pretty odd too lol. The news of Legends: Z-A came well after I was done recording for this video, but we got that to look forward too!!
Thanks for watching!! 😁
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I see what you did there. Lol.
I’m supposed this is top comment
@@JoeyParksHereYeah, your comment that "Mega Evolutions were never seen again" aged very badly.
You missed one of the best quality of life changes! In gen 3 you could just press the A button when facing a boulder, tree, or water and you'll be prompted on whether you want to use Strength, Cut, or Surf. No more having to pause the game go into the pokemon menu, select the right pokemon and select the HM it just automatically recognized which HM could be used in the space you were facing.
That was such a life saver being added these kids will never know even HMs being very hidden in gen 1
True, that is a great change!! Thanks for watching!
Gen 2 actually added that!
@@quintonsellars6462 and here I was still using the pause menu out of habit in gen 2!
Gen 3 also adds 10 spaces in boxes and you can catch pokemon without the need to switch the box when full
The fact you pronounced Hawai’i properly makes me proud 🥹
i got you goat, thanks for watching! Glad you're here!!
Gen 2 also introduced a better backpack with the division of health items, pokeballs, key items., etc. Also the SELECT button as well to use the bike or rods
My favorite change in gen 6 is that when you're in a wild battle npcs don't move so if you're trying to avoid an npc while you're in tall grass the don't move
God i miss when Pokémon was good.
I miss when they didn't remove content to re sell SOME OF It in DLC.
Sooo a year ago?
@@rowanrawlz1871 no. Gen 7.
@@stigmaoftherose gen 9s pretty great in everything but performance
@rowanrawlz1871 I won't play a new gen where my pokemon can't keep it's moveset from a past generation, can't mega if I built it for that purpose, can't use a z-move when a spent time building an entire movement based on that, or possibly can't use the mon at all as it's just not in the game.
Then you tell me it's performance is shit, and cost more? Nah I'm good.
Big fan of the professional tone in this documentary. I appreciate this kind of comprehensive and to-the-point content. You earned a sub.
Thank you so much for the kind words and support homie!! Much appreciated! 😁
Agreed! Another new sub for the same reasons ^-^
Gen 2 added roamers and headbutt trees. Added the C-gear?
Gen 2 added dolls and decorations that gen 3 built upon with the secret bases.
Pokéahalon and the gold crown in gen 4. Gn 4 added honey trees. Gen 4 added the Poketch and PokéRadar. Wifi events. Gen 4 gave players the ability to view their stats, such as Pokémon fished or caught.
Gen 5 removed ribbons as collectibles.
Wonder trading in gen 6. And the touch screen UI, I can't remember the name of it in general.
ORAS added legendary worm holes and riding Latios/Latias. ORAS added Dex nav.
Gen 7 added Battle Royal, (not sure of you mentioned that), overworld wild encounters, Poképelago.
If I got any of these wrong, or some were mentioned in the video; I'm sure I'll hear about it.
Thanks for the additional info!! Appreciate it! Part 2 may be on the horizon tbh haha.. thanks for watching! appreciate it!!
Gen I had an unused type called Bird. Gen II introduced the ??? type and removed mandatory saving to access boxes. Gen III gave Pokemon their own minisprites that are used in the party and boxes, and had two Pokemon from the next generation in Pokemon XD. Gen IV corrected the capitalization of things other than Pokemon. Gen V removed the ??? type, made the Elite Four playable in any order, had difficulty settings, and got rid of the annoying low-HP beeping. Gen VI had roller skating and certain characters have models. Gen VII gave Pokemon walking models, had battle models for every character, and had trainers present in the battle scene. Gen VIII added access to boxes without a PC and had no excuse not to scale the models. Gen IX remade and added texture to the models, and merged the battle scene with the over world.
Also, the devices; Gen II had Poké Gear, Gen III the PokéNav, Gen IV the Pokétch, and Rotom devices since Gen VII.
Good info!! Thank you! and thanks for watching!!
I think gen 3 is massively underappreciated for all of its changes. Something you didn't mention here is the incredible changes to the PC. The PC in gens 1-2 were just text based and had so many issues. Gen 3 gave use the little grid system we all know and love today, it lets you easily move pokemon around, allows pokemon to still be captured if the current box selected is full, and actually see sprites of each individual pokemon. Massive changes that I think are severely underappreciated.
Even more, double battles are a huge thing. They are like the standard of pokemon battling nowadays. Held items were massively reworked from gen 2. While they were introduced in gen 2, they were pretty wonky and not very fleshed out. I think gen 3 made held items a staple of pokemon, along with making berries a normal thing. Natures, abilities, and IVs are huge reworks to the fundamental nature of how pokemon function. The graphics in gen 3 are amazing and hold up incredibly well today. The footsteps and sound effects when running through puddles or sand is so cute and just feels awesome. Having overworld weather in certain parts of the game that looks super awesome and then actually applying in battle as well is just awesome.
Playing gens 1-2 in comparison to 3 is such a massive difference. I think generation 3 cemented the vast majority of what we all define pokemon as and why we all love it. Gens 1-2 had so many wonky issues that it feels suuuper dated to go back to nowadays. But gen 3 just feels good. The only major complaint I can think of is the lack of the physical special split, which is valid, so many pokemon are kinda screwed over by it. But I think that's a very special part of what gen 3 is.
Anyways, thanks for coming to my TED talk about why gen 3 is so awesome and should be adored by more people. I think gens 4 and 5 get way more love, and that's fair they are really awesome. I just think gen 3 went so underappreciated for everything it did.
This may be your best work yet Joey. I didn’t even know all the changes between each game. Simply amazin!
Thank you so much, I got u goat!! 🐐
Loved the video, good job. I think a good detail is that in gen 4 you can change deoxys form in the same game. As int gen 3 it was tied to the version your playing. Gen 6 also included cosplay Pikachu
Good information!! Thanks for that! And for watching and enjoying; appreciate you homie! 😁
16:10 you forgot about the ability to record sound for Chatot’s cry with the DS mic- and the subsequent use of it to cuss at people in battle 😂
LOL I'll have to look into this! Thanks for watching!!
This is a video I will save and come back to over the coming years when i start a new generation!
Because i have never played anything past Gen 3... but I will get to it eventually!
I aim to fully beat each game and complete the pokedex in all 3 versions of a Gen, before I move forward.
Great video!
Sounds like you have quite the journey ahead! Thanks for watching 🫡
Just came across your video, absolutely amazing. You earned a sub and like. I’m 30 and have been playing Pokémon since day 1 with red and blue and I’m addicted to now for like 5 years to pokemon videos and pokemon facts etc.. this video is worthy of millions of views well done
Yoooo!! That makes me happy to hear and thank you so much for the kind words homie! Happy you’re here 😁
Don't know if this was mentioned here somewhere - Gen. 8 removed friendship, so moves like Return became obsolete.
Edit: Like I said, Return (and Frustration) was indeed removed in gen. 8, but I was mistaken about friendship. Friendship is still around, and still way too complex a mechanic for what it's used for (the latter statement is more of an opinion, lol). Sorry.
Good call! Thank you!
What? No it didn't?
@@billbobs678 Oh yeah, you're right. I'm not really into Pokemon, so it makes sense I'd make mistakes. I knew gen. 8 removed the moves Return and Frustration, both of which use friendship to determine their base attack. Couple that with something else I'd heard and probably misunderstood about changes to friendship in gen. 8, and I had come to a wrong conclusion.
I'll edit my original comment.
@@Mooskym ye I remember getting saved by friendship loads in bdsp so I was confused for a second

Or even a Q&A from all these comments?
This video was so good. Thank you for making this ♥️
Yeah, I'm definitely considering doing a part 2 to this video with all of the information i've gotten in the comments lol! Also thanks for you kind words and for watching!! Appreciate you!!
One of my favorite gimmicks from Gen 2 was Mystery Gift. You can connect 2 GBC’s via IR and receive an item. Additionally, after getting access to Kanto, a trainer appears in the basement of a house in Viridian City with a copy of the team you connected with.
Beating up my little brothers team without him feeling bad felt so good
I may cover them in the next part! Thanks for watching!!
Didn't mention Legends: Arceus (Gen VIII) - 6 new pokemon, new Hisui region (past form of Kalos), 16 regional variations of existing pokemon, 24 new moves, no abilities at all. Also, instead of moving from town to town there is only Jubilife Village and a bunch of other stuff
7 new Pokemon not 6
yeeeaah I've gotten that comment a bunch, I think i just decided early on that I wasn't gonna do it because it's so different form every other game in the core series. But in hindsight i probably should've done it lol. oh well! Thanks for watching I appreciate it!!!
The Hisui region is ancient Sinnoh, not Kalos
Past form of Kalos huh 🤨
Battling has one or two changes lol (/s)
This is really well put-together!!!
Thank you so much homie!! Appreciate the kind words! 😁
How does this only have 13 views?? Really enjoyed this video :)
Yooo I appreciate that for real!! Thanks so much for watching!!
51K now.
I remember how much of a trip it was to “beat” Silver Version only to learn that I’d now be transported to Kanto for another few weeks/months of original gameplay
Right?? Was so dope. Thanks for watching!! 😁
the amount of effort you did for this video is insane i need more people to see this
Ayyy thank you homie I appreciate that!! Thanks for watching too!
i thought i was watching a big youtuber i havent heard of before, the way your video is edited and the presentation, way of talking, etc. is all very, uh, "advanced", like, i thought im watching a youtuber with like at least 20k subs or something. very nicely put together video man, you earned that sub
Yoooo thank you so much for the kind words homie!! It means a lot to me, glad to have you here!! 😁
Gen 3 introduced Berry farming alongside 60 new berries. Gen 4 improved the concept with items to control yield and growth. Gen 6 expanded things further with plant Mutations. Gen 8 removed the feature altogether.
Also, secret bases were alive (somewhat) for two more generations. Gen 5 had bases at one point, it allowed players around the world to visit your base, water your berries and exchange items. It was tied to the Dream World service though, so when that got shut off, Gen 5 completely lost bases AND berry plants. Gen 6 gave us a powered up version of Hoenn's bases with the online features of the PSS and the flag collection of Gen 4. But they've been MIA ever since.
This video does a great job showing how the franchise progressed. The amount of features and mechanics that they put into these games is crazy, but it's sad when one of the ones you enjoyed gets axed eventually.
you know, you're really giving me some deja vu talking about the dream world, i kind of forgot about that!! Thanks for watching and for the info! Appreciate it!!
When I was a kid I didn't understand how Pokemon generations worked. I started with Pokemon Pearl, and I didn't really know about other games. When they introduced gen 5, I thought they were replacing all the pokemon and I was so mad about it for a while. By the time I actually played the games I got over this, which.. considering they didn't have any older pokemon until the post game, you'd think that belief would have persisted
Yea gen 5 waste only Gen that did that. Gen 3 came really close tho. Gen 4 felt massively different than 1 and 2
Gen 2 started the trend of box legendaries with gen 3 starting version exclusive legendaries
Good call!!
Thanks for watching and the comment!! Appreciate it! 😁
Also Gen 3 made Legendary encounters mandatory. Heart Gold and Soul Silver even changed the box legendary from optional to mandatory.
Between the release of Japanese red and green and the international red and blue, Blizzards freeze chance was lowered from 30% to 10%
True! Good info, thanks for that! And for watching, appreciate it!
Does that mean you’re at a disadvantage when battling a Japanese player?
My man, this has been one hell of a video, top job. Only a small number of things missed out of the insane amount of things added and removed, this has been very impressive to see documented
Yooo! Thank you man!! Yeah this video has definitely been the most work I’ve put in on a single video, so I’m glad people are diggin it. Makes it all worth. Thanks for watching!! 😁
@@JoeyParksHere keep doing stuff like this and you'll get a lot more attention in no time. Something like how moves changed between gens could be really interesting
Great suggestion!! Thank you!!
I might have missed you saying this during gen 3, but I think you overlooked a big one: a massive overhaul was the introduction of how EVs worked in gen 3. In the first two gens, all stats could be theoretically maxed (if you had the right IVs) because there was no EV cap. Gen 3 changed that, making it so that you could only max out a total of two stats (an EV cap of 510 points). This fundamentally changed stat training (and competitive team building), as you had to pick and choose and build strategies around which Pokémon’s stats would be taken into account when EV training.
I’m not sure about this but I THINK the overhaul to EVs was essentially why Pokémon could not be traded forward from gen 1/2 to gen 3. Their EV distribution would basically be broken / incompatible with Gen 3’s overhaul.
Yeup! Thanks for the info, gonna cover EV’s in a future part for sure
Gen 6 is also the first generation you can change your outfit and buy clothes to customize your appearance. Wanted to bring it up since the video implies the customization options were just limited to the character creator.
Gen 6 also changed the base power of several moves, nerfed weather creating effecting, and was the first Gen to go back and buff old mons base stats (for several mons, not just Pikachu)
Edit: Also benches! Which I only want to mention because I remember it being memably hype in the build up to XY
Good information for sure, I appreciate it!! Thanks for watching! 😁
23:51
-I thought you were dead
-Pokemon Z: My death was greatly exaggerated
Great video, I've been looking for a while for a video that explained all the changes from gen to gen in pokemon games, so thank you! One change you didn't mention (I don't remember if it happened in gen 2 or 3, though) is the pc/box system: before, they could store up to 20 pokemon, but when they got full you had to go to a pokemon center and manually change the box. If the box was full, you couldn't catch more pokemons until you changed it to a new one (and the game didn't notify you about this, so eventually you found out your box was full when you were about to catch a pokemon, it happened to me with articuno in yellow). But now the pc box changes automatically if one is full, so it's waaaay more convenient.
Yo thanks for watching! And good call pc stuff will be in a future part!
1:00 They made a rap for the Johto Pokémon too.
Also the "OG Rap" did NOT include all 151 Pokemon, since Mew was kept a secret back then. Same goes for Celebi in the "Johto Rap".
Hoenn too
this man sure parks
One thing I feel you forgot to mention about Gen 5 is that it's the only Gen in which the Evil Team isn't defeated BEFORE the Elite Four. I think worth mentioning, since I don't remember other Gens having done this. (Rainbow Rocket doesn't count, since not part of main story)
Hmm, interesting point! Thanks for that and for watching! Appreciate you!
The most important change was Gen 2 adding proper color and proper pokemon sprites. Gen1 sprites often looked like abominations. Pokemon cuteness and color increased the charm of the game by orders of magnitudes.
Gen 2 definitely did look a lot better, good call! Thanks for watching!! Appreciate it!
"Pokémon Yellow" has limited color graphics when you play it in a GBC, GBA, Super Game Boy, or Game Boy Player.
>[Pokérus] doubles the amount of EVs you get after knocking out a pokémon
Well, since you brought it up, the EV system (generally referred to as stat experience in Gen 1-2) was overhauled in Gen 3. While previously you could max out each stat, now you can acquire a limited number that's enough to max out two stats (with one point left over), creating a more tactical and customisation-focused iteration.
Oh, thats good information! Thanks for that and for watching! Appreciate you!
Great video! The only thing I noticed is you didn’t cover the new pokemon from legends arceus but otherwise, loved it!
yeeeaah I've gotten that comment a bunch, I think i just decided early on that I wasn't gonna do it because it's so different form every other game in the core series. But in hindsight i probably should've done it lol. oh well! Thanks for watching I appreciate it!!!
@@JoeyParksHerewell now we know Legends will be its own spin-off series within the main series. I’ve heard from many people that they consider PLA a main series game (including me).
@@IvoryAspen97 yeah it certainly is a mainline game
Absolutely amazing video. You get a sub from me. Keep up the great work. If i didnt know better i would have said you easily had 100k+ subs.
Yooo such kind words!! I appreciate it a ton homie, thank you! 😁 glad to have you here!
In gen 5, in some routes percussions get added and the music speeds up a bit if you're running; if I'm not mistaken, it's the only generation where you can talk to some npcs to add new instruments to the music. Also, B/W had the battle subway, the entralink, the pokemon musical, were the first games where several areas were entirely different between games, and were the first games which let you battle the elite four in any order. B2/W2 also added the customizable join avenue, Pokewood, hidden grottos, the white treehollow/black tower, and had a secret area visitable only after completing the regional dex.
What I find funny is that, for the most part up until now with Gen 9, the main games were mostly just red and blue, here's why:
Gen 1: of course, Red, Blue and Green in Japan
Gen 2: was different with Gold and Silver
Gen 3: Ruby and Salphire is basically Red and Blue
Gen 4: Pearl and Diamond is basically red and blue since the colors of Pearl version are pink, a redish color and diamond is just blue
Gen 5: Here they tried to be different so this one doesn't count
Gen 6: Y colors are red and X colors are blue, same for the box legendaries
Gen 7: Sun has orange-ish colors which is still in the redish family, Moon is blue purple-ish
Gen 8: Sword has blue colors and Shield has red colors as also seen with their box legendaries
Gen 9: Violet is just a different blue tone and Scarlet is just a different red tone
So as you can see, out of the 9 generations, 7 of them follow the Red and Blue color scheme, even if altered a bit sometimes
That… is very interesting!
The biggest change the games ever had was my childhood.
you have the editing style and talk like you have 100k subs. LOVE IT
Yooo!! Thank you so much for the kind words dawg!! Appreciate you!! 😁
Wait, what??? This guy only has 800 subs. I honestly thought he was one of those million sub Pokemon bros that UA-cam seems to be recommending me lately.

There’s also a Hoenn pokerap
Let's be real, Battle Frontier is the best post-game challenge. Earning those Frontier symbols and turning it into gold. I don't hate the newer versions, it's just Battle Frontier is the peak of post-game in the Pokemon series.
Naaawwww going back to Kanto in Silver and Gold is way cooler imo. Thanks for watching!!!
@@JoeyParksHere Hmmmm... Maybe you're right, but I didn't consider going back to Kanto as post-game. I considered it as second half of the game. Hahaha! But yeah, it's cool tho.
I mean, I guess you’re not wrong? Lol but most people def call it a post game!
I'm gonna be honest. How this bro only has a tad over 1k subs with this many views is a crime. Gotta throw a sub for a really dope video. It's earned
Thank you so much bro!! Glad you enjoyed!
I prefer regional fakes.
Firstly this is a fantastically made video, can't believe you're at less than 1k subs. As someone who has only played gens 2-4 I was looking to see if any of the newer games are worth playing. There's definitely some interesting features but I think I just like the nostalgia of the older games.
I think it’s somewhat unanimously agreed that Pokémon kind of started falling off after gen 5 ishhh, that’s my opinion anyway for sure lol. But give any of the newer games a try if you’d like! You might love them!
Also thank you for the kind praises homie, I appreciate it a lot!! 😁😁
Great vid - I loved all the quality of life changes gen 2 introduced back in the day vs gen 1. Doing a brain dump off the top of my head which I feel also helped set the bar for future gens (sorry if some already mentioned in comments!):
- shortcut ('select') button for quick key item (bike!) use was revolutionary
- 'move' pokemon function to make organising boxes easier (rather than just withdraw/deposit from gen 1)
- backpack item pocket differentiation (rather than 1 long list)
- smoother backsprites (rather than pixelated zooms from gen 1)
- bike BGM changing to normal area BGM when moving between areas (couldn't do in gen 1 - was annoying 😅)
- time capsule, backward compatible trading (just wow!)
- daily respawning items (berries/apricorns) and regular events (eg. Loto, haircuts, bug catching contest)
- saving money with mom (this one bit meh lol but still cool concept to hold twice as much money as future games)
- decorate room and menus (another meh, but first steps towards player customisation options)
- more differentiated overworld sprite groups for Pokémon than gen 1 (e.g. charmander, charizard and gengar line)
- trainer rematches and swarms (didnt use this hugely myself)
- different legendary pokemon BGM than standard wild encounter one (from Crystal onwards)
- route/town signs when you enter (Crystal onwards)
- introduction of *colour* (of course!)
- your trainer turning to face the challenger who spots you (vs staying fixed in gen 1)
- rage and bind not being OP anymore lol, and hyper beam in-between knocking out Pokémon needing recharge
- in-battle sleep mechanic being rebalanced
(Last few just ironed out gen 1 imbalances). I'm sure there's more (eg mystery gift etc) but these were my faves on top of what you listed - definitely made me nostalgic watching this! Thanks for making the vid :)
Yoo thanks for the list! Def gonna do more parts of this so the title isn’t a lie haha :) thanks for watching!
this was really entertaining, thanks for this video :)
Yo! Thanks so much For watching!!
This was way more entertaining and engaging than I would have expected.
Ayyy thank you bro 😁
While this video isn't perfect....it is amazing! Super impressed and thanks for putting in so much effort!
Thank you for the praise homie, I appreciate it!! Glad you're here!
Not sure if anyone mentioned this but double wild battles were technically introduced in gen4 with the partner npcs you have to escort, great vid!
Yeah, I've heard! Thanks for the info tho, appreciate it!!
Giving abilities to every Pokémon was a mistake. Instead of being cool unique additions, they're often just boring minor boosts.
I will never forgive GameFreak for removing Shuckle's proto-ability to make berry juice.
I very strongly disagree with this lol. I think abilities go a very long way in making pokemon feel unique, even if an ability isnt exactly unique to them. Gives them much more identity imo! Thanks for watching and the comment tho!! Appreciate it!
Thank you for this video!!! A trip down nostalgia lane!
I’m glad you enjoyed!! 😁
Dude idk why but I love your mic set up the plank of wood or whatever it is. Really good video i really enjoyed it great work
LMAO thank you, I have the other end of that 2x4 on a chess board with like 3 books on top of it to balance the weight and BOOM I’ve got myself an adjustable mic stand 🫡🫡 haha appreciate the love homie! 😁
Leech Life is now stronger than it once was when it was first introduced in Generation 1. It now has a higher base power starting in Generation 7.
Good God I feel so overwhelmed. I think it's amazing to see how far Pokemon has come all the way from gen 1. Definitely makes me feel old considering when I was a kid I started with watching the very first episode. Jezz
Lots of changes!! Thanks for watching!
33:20. It might be worth mentioning that the Gyms, despite being able to be done “in any order” don’t level-scale. Very important distinction.
As a Gen 1 veteran, Pokemon indeed changed a lot from my childhood.
So many changes…
Gen 2: There were other bug fixes like the accuracy bug, the Hyper Beam bug, the Focus Energy bug, and the Toxic + Leech Seed bug. On the other hand, about half of the new acorn Pokéballs were bugged. This was especially disappointing, since the only other games in which they appear are HeartGold and SoulSilver.
The Sleep status works a little differently.
Night Shade, Seismic Toss, and Glare now respect type immunities.
Wrap, Bind, Clamp, and Fire Spin no longer keep the opponent from attacking when you attack first and instead do some minor extra damage at the end of each turn.
Counter is redesigned to work on all physical attacks (alongside a new special variant in Mirror Coat).
Bide is reworked.
Reflect and especially Light Screen are reworked.
Conversion is reworked.
Gust and Thunder can now hit Pokémon using Fly, while Earthquake can now hit Pokémon using Dig and for double damage.
On the other hand, Swift (and other later "perfectly accurate" attacks) no longer hit during Fly or Dig.
Struggle is now typeless.
The OHKO moves have their accuracy reworked.
Whirlwind and Roar now force switches in trainer battles.
Dizzy Punch gains a confusion secondary effect.
Haze no longer removes status afflictions.
Rage no longer has locked nor continuous damage effects.
Razor Wind gets a high critical rate.
Rock Slide gains a chance to flinch.
Skull Bash raises the user's defense on the first turn.
Sky Attack gets a flinch chance and a high critical hit rate.
Tri Attack gets its three status secondary effects.
Good shit!! Thanks for the list and for watching!
One of the best UA-cam videos I’ve seen in years. Excellent job 👏
Yo! Thank you so much!
"New Breeding Tricks", showcasing how an everstone can be used to pass on a nature...
*_Displays Nidoqueen, who infamously can't breed_*
A classic goof
Some changes I know from competitive:
Gen1-gen2
Normal types are no longer immune to body slam paralysis
You can thaw out of freeze naturally instead of it basically being a kill
It doesn’t take up a turn to wake up from sleep
Hyper beam forces you to recharge even after you get a kill
Wrap-like moves were changed to prevent you from switching while doing some damage over time instead of essentially flinching you over and over
Stat changes doesn’t stack the speed nerf from paralysis
No more 256 glitch, a glitch that gives 100% accurate moves a 1/256 chance to miss due to a coding error
Critical hit rate used to be based on speed but was changed in gen 2.
From gen 2 to 3
They changed the sleep talk mechanics, making it so if sleep talk calls rest the move will fail.
They also added a glitch where if a sleeping pokemon uses sleep talk and switches out, the sleep counter will not progress, so the pokemon can stay asleep forever
Spikes are changed so you can add 3 layers of spikes.
Gen3-gen4
I’m pretty sure this is the generation that made it so if an opposing pokemon explodes it doesn’t skip your turn.
Gen4-5
Explosion was nerfed no longer halving the opposing pokemon’s defence.
Sleep turns reset after switching out
It might’ve been this generation or from 5-6 that added various priority speeds, fake out above all other priority, than extreme speed, than the rest.
Gems were added which gave a 1.5x boost to a specific type attack the first time a move with that type is used, the gem then disappears after that one usage
Gen5-gen6
A ton of moves like surf flamethrower draco meteor and sucker punch got their base power nerfed
Gems were nerfed and all except the normal gem were removed
Sleep was changed back to what it is today
Hidden power was nerfed from
Removed triple and rotation battles
70-60
Thunder wave was nerfed to 90% accuracy
Terrains were added
Gen6-gen7
Prankster doesn’t work against dark types
Dark void was nerfed to 50% accuracy and smeargle couldn’t learn it with sketch
Ash Greninja was added with the ability battle bond so it can transform
No mandatory HMs
Inceroar was introduced and later got intimidate which isn’t a big change mechanically but has completely changed vgc and now haunts every player’s dreams.
Gen7-8
Terrains were nerfed to 30% increase in power (except misty because it doesn’t increase fairy type move power)
A ton of moves were removed.
TRs were added as temporary tms.
Curry
Paid online
Aegislash had it’s stats nerfed
Gen8-gen9
Wicked blow was nerfed to 75bp
Grassy glide was nerfed to 55bp
Transistor was nerfed to 1.3x
Intrepid sword and shield only worked the first time they got sent out
Zacian and zamazenta crowned got a stat nerf
New items like covert cloak, clear amulet and more
5 revavroom forms for the different team star battles
Auto battles
Materials from wild pokemon
Great video! Just wanted to add what I could to the comments, there’s definitely more if you want to look into movesets and stat buffs of weak pokemon but that’ll take a long time.
Great info, damn!! Thank you dude i appreciate that! Yeah I'm def considering doing another video like this but just focused on like moves and abilities but... idk that might be way too hard LOL.
Great video my dude, 2 little pointers I wanted to add. 1) You should include how every new generation had a new way to evolve a pokemon. 2) You referenced pokemon go and how they added new mons, and I think you should references Legends Arceus because they also added new mons to the mix. Now with a question for you. Have you played every main series game?
Thanks for watching and your kind words!! So yeah I didnt talk about Legends arceus, but the new pokemon/moves are included in the final counts... it was a big project okay lol.
I actually have not played every mainline game! I've kept up with them pretty closely, but I have not played Sword/Shield of Scarlet/Violet! That was part of the reason why I wanted to do this video, catch up on/research them :)
That was one awesome video. Thanks. Btw u could have included the affection bonuses introduced in XY & which were changed from Gen 7 onwards. Forced Exp share as well
Noted for part 2! Thanks for watching!
“It was rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise!” (Image rotates clockwise)
Giving the female pokemon an everstone gives the offspring a better chance to inherit its nature… unless it’s Nidoqueen or some other such pokemon that can’t breed at all.
Respect! I’ve played this series since gen1 was released in the UK in 1999, and I thought I knew everything, but I actually learned some cool stuff in your video! great job, you more than earned my subscription😅. Oh, thought you might be interested, gen 2 Pokémon got a poke rap song … it was garbage, it was called pokerap GS.
Yeah other people have commented about the other raps!! There's actually one for gen 3 too! But i agree, the gen 1 clears them all lol. Thanks for watching and your kind words!! Appreciate it! Peace to the UK!
I thoroughly enjoyed this breakdown ALSO this is the first time i realised fishing was removed! I never even noticed 😂
Yo Thank you so much for the positivity I appreciate it a lot!! Thanks for watching and supporting! And yeah, I think the world will survive without pokemon fishing haha
This is so much information!! thank you!
Yoo! Glad you enjoyed homie!!
i grew up with pokemon firered and leafgreen to this day those are still my favorite pokemon games.
Gen 3 is my goat 😁👍
Funny you say Counter-Clockwise then turn the map clockwise, was a bit confused, but nothing bad happened so it's fine :D Anyway, awesome video, thought you were a way bigger channel already!
Yeah some other people pointed that out 😅 thanks for the words and for watching!!
Love this video. As the person who last played the Black & White version.
I hope that they would create a game that has no new Pokémon but add up all the features from previous generations of games compiled into 1 game.
That's the dream.
I hear people often say that! A game with every region... That does sound amazing if it could be done haha. Thanks for watching!
Gens 7, 8, and 9 all have improved the way you can obtain/build competitive Pokémon.
Sun and Moon introduced the bottle cap item that would artificially max out a single IV and gold bottle caps would max out all of a Pokemon's stats. But your Pokémon had to be level 100 to have the item used on them. You also had a chance to find Pokémon with their hidden abilities and 4 or more perfect IVs in the wild after knocking out 30 Pokémon in an S.O.S. battle. (The best part, they could be shiny because your shiny odds would drop from 1/4096 to 455 without the shiny charm and with the shiny charm they are 1/1365 to 1/273 or something in that range!!!)
Sword and Shield improved the way you'd normally have to pass down egg moves. You no longer needed to do it the traditional way and instead just needed the Pokémon you wanted to have the egg move have an empty move slot and be placed in the nursery/daycare with another of its species, same gender OR NOT then voila! The egg move would be shared. (The traditional way still works but the new way is way faster. I've used it every time I wanted to make/build breeding parents for the masuda method. It cuts the prep time in half. I also forgot to mention that in SwSh, they introduced nature mints and the infamous hidden ability patch. Nature mints artificially change the nature of your Pokémon and the HA patch works just like an ability patch but they were super expensive...200 Dyinite Ore! SERIOUSLY😤)
Pokémon SaV changed the way breeding is done entirely by now allowing you to produce and collect eggs anywhere you want because there was no Pokémon daycare/nursery. You could also make a sandwich or buy food that would boost the amount of eggs you can collect for 30 minutes. Once again, passing down egg moves got even easier! Now all you need is the Pokémon that can learn the move, have it hold the Mirror Herb while having an empty move slot, place it in your party with ANY Pokémon with the known egg move and open up a picnic! It's that easy!!! Also, the level requirement for hyper training was lowered to level 50 when it was previously level 100. Nature mints and hidden ability patches returned amd now you could just buy bottle caps with your ingame currency instead of having to buy them with BP in the post game!
Building competitive Pokémon has come along way but it still needs refinment because it's still easier AND quicker to just make hacked Pokémon with everything you want.
Thanks for all the info! 👍 perhaps I’ll have to make an episode dedicated to comp changes? 🤔
@@JoeyParksHere No problem. I kinda went on a tangent here.
My favorite part about gen 7 is that you only need to complete the regional Pokedex to get the shiny charm, It's the first game I got the Shiny Charm in
Gen II removed one aspect of capturing Pokémon that was in Gen I. When trying to capture Pokémon with low capture rates, such as Legendary Pokémon, you have a high chance for the Pokéball not hitting them at all with the caption being "You missed the POKÉMON!" Frustrating times they were
Wait for real?? I don’t remember that at all, that’s wild lol
Thanks for watching!!
@@JoeyParksHere no problem. Great video
Very detailed breakdown. Great work my guy.
Thanks homie 😁 appreciate it!
@@JoeyParksHere of course. A lot of people yapping about what you missed without appreciating the work you put in. Never suprises me.
Crazy that u dont even have 1k subs😦, happy I found this channel
yooo I appreciate the kind words homie!! Thanks for watching and being here!!
Took me on a nostalgic trip of playing every game thanks for the fun memories
Ayy thank you for watching!!
A very minor detail you missed was that from Gen 1 to Gen 2 Hyper Beam was nerfed
The way Hyper Beam worked in Gen 1 was that if the pokemon using the move got a KO, There would be no recharge
Very minor change. Great video!
That was a bug fix, not a nerf. Hyper Beam was never intended to skip the recharge turn after a KO.
oh good call! Thanks for that and for watching the video!!
Breeding in ScVi is the best it’s ever been. I love how I can just go AFK for 10 minutes at a time, and come back to 10 eggs, collect them, and reset the timer for 10 more minutes. Much easier than biking back and forth and looking to see if the Day Care girl has anything for me.
Great video ! I seem to recall Hyper Training existing in X & Y via pretty crazy mini-games. There are also Pikachu forms in X & Y with the PokéStudio, which I guess is also something that could have been mentionned. X & Y also introduced the Boutiques for character customization
Good info! Thanks for the comment and watching homie, appreciate it a lot!!
Super entertaining video man glad UA-cam recommended you 🙏
Thank you so much for the positive energy!! I appreciate it and am glad you’re here! 😁😁
31:22 Legends Z-A: Hello there
Pokemon yellow added team rocket and happiness and one Pokemon that followed you. Pokemon Crystal... I'm not sure if it added anything really. It changed the story up but I cant recall if it added anything extra... gen 2 overall made the bag and managing your Pokemon better.
If you want to add games that allowed extra storage, both Pokemon stadiums allowed you to hold Pokemon for gens 1&2, Pokemon Box was for your gen 3 Pokemon, Pokemon Ranch worked on gen 4 Pokemon, Pokemon Bank was used for gens 5-7 and Pokemon Home is working for gens 8and 9 so far.
If I remember correctly, you couldn’t evolve an Eevee into Espeon or Umbreon at all in FRLG because the time function is completely absent in those games. You had to trade it over to the Hoenn games to be able to evolve into Espeon or Umbreon. Kid me learned this the hard way by raising an Eevee to level 68 during the post game lmao.
Wow thats very silly lol. Thanks for watching and the info!!
