The only way you can enter a battle with most of these mons currently if you don’t already own the games without hacking is through showdown which as a 3rd party ambiguously legal simulation which Nintendo is blissfully ignoring currently but should it start affecting their bottom line would be copyright struck into oblivion
They simply don’t care anymore and every new switch era game continues to be a massive downgrade

@justaperson4656 No, you don't have to abandon it, I have like 50 Pokémon in my Soul Silver cart because I love gen 4s post game and Pokémon Battle Revolution and it's better than anything post gen 5. Nothing saying you need to bring it all up, in fact it's a dumb idea. You're practically abandoning your Pokémon that way.

The Library Pass Victini is exclusive, but not all event Victini. So you can still get one, just not gonna be as special

I have over 1000 Pokemon dating back to the original Ruby and Sapphire. I had a full on panic attack when they said Bank would be closing and I was forced to buy a home subscription just to transfer them. My oldest Pokemon I own is a Blaziken and i got it on my birthday. March 19, 2003. It was also the same day as the release. My Blaziken is 20 YEARS OLD. 💀
Don't forget to buy your Blaziken a drink when he turns 21 if you're American!

The very day the eShop closure was announced for the 3DS, I put my migration hunts into overdrive. Grabbed shinies I couldn't grab otherwise, like Celebi, ribbons I wanted on them and whatever else. Small regret not waiting to migrate Celebi until after I got a few more ribbons, but whatever, it's only a few Gen 7 ones and I got the champion ribbon I wanted on her.
But yeah, if you want to make a ribbon master Pokemon starting with Colosseum or any early game, now is the time to do so. The Earth and National ribbons are easy to get and there are a ton of Pokemon to choose from in Colo/XD to hunt ribbons on. If you're nuts you can shiny hunt them in Colosseum, too, but not XD. Only non-shadows can be shiny in that game and they don't get the National ribbon.
This. I have a couple I'm trying to get ribbons on and this'll make things next to impossible
Based on the "Days until expiration" tag on Pokemon Bank, we have about 5~8 years until it closes. Now that you know the time-frame, you can rest easy. Get hunting folks.

@@coreybroussard5264 It's the fact that most other companies keep their Internet services open many more years than Nintendo does. I'm pretty sure ps2 still had it after the Wii shut down. It's just disappointing that they always shut it down so soon by comparison. Like the choice actively loses them money as it stops people from buying their product so it isn't even a good practice.
SV is also doing a huge movepool reset for everything which can destroy the value of many old event pokemon with unique moves
I’ve been holding onto my shiny legendary beasts with entire unique movesets on home because of that. I’m bummed cause I’ve had them since gen 4 and I don’t think I can use them again unless I don’t mind them losing those moves
The movesets are not lost, they're just invisible while the Pokémon is visiting BDSP or later. Pokémon HOME has the option to show a Pokémon's data as it appears in places it has visited, including Pokémon Bank, so the moveset will still appear in that view.
If the Pokémon is in SwSh, they can also be sent there to see the moveset, but if the moveset is changed in SwSh, it'll change in the Bank view as well.

FYI there is no way to get Spinda into home without bank. As BDSP spindas can't be transferred due to the way ILCA programmed them, the spot patterns change when transferred.
Can't transfer from GO either, since that game only has 9 Spinda forms and I guess they didn't want a bunch of duplicate patterns in Home

They take away Bank, you eventually have to pay for whatever solution they offer to get your old Pokemon back. Nothing is free, everyone is money.
@@Philip027 Nintendo has been taking away playable characters, features abilities longer than GF has in their own games. Example: fludd in super Mario Sunshine.
It’s so frustrating that they are locking the DS and 3DS eras. I think I speak for many in saying that we’d prefer ports of the originals with online rather than a chibi remake.
I honestly think more chibi style remakes wouldn't be that bad if they were made properly and involved content from the third versions unlike how bdsp completely abandoned platinum content. Although I think everyone would prefer ports with online content, the idea of more chibi remakes wouldn't be awful if they improved on them (and were developed by an actual game development company)
@@Vampirecrypt remakes like HGSS and ORAS were amazing as remakes. The lets go games and bdsp were not.
Unfortunately it isn't just the 3DS and DS Era's this move is locking away. It's also the Gameboy and Gameboy Advance Era's as well. The VC became the only official way to transfer gen I and II Pokemon beyond those two generations, and it also was the most accessible way to transfer Gen III to Gen VI and beyond

It's been an issue since gen 3. Before the Gamecube titles and FRLG a huge number of mons were simply impossible to obtain.
Literally the only game where you can get all the Pokemon programmed into a single game with just that game is Legends. Although that hardly counts when there's only 242 Pokemon programmed within it.
Let's see genius which company has a game series where you can keep over 1000+ mons between games?

I really hate that Bank is closing, I wish it was just an offline application such as Pokémon Box for gen 3. I’m actually starting a Pokémon gauntlet where I replay allll the games, because to be honest I dumped my entire living dex on Home and now all of those files are pretty much empty, and I want to basically have a way to have all those Pokémon in their original files again

That's what I'm doing, too--I'm playing all the main series Pokémon games I have on my 3DS (Blue, Yellow, Crystal, XY, ORAS, and (U)SM.) I'll even keep rebattling all the E4 and champions so they can have all the Champion ribbons before sending them over to Home.
@@bsg-jay7093 Yes, but as the video said in the beginning, they did imply that Bank will be shutting down some point soon. We just don't know when.
So I was thinking about solutions to this. Could Bank connect to a LAN server to transfer data that way? Like if Home and Bank were connected to the same network or if maybe Home could set up a network for Bank to connect to for premium users. The switch can already use that kind of feature with sending screenshots and videos to your phone, I wonder if it would work the same way. Would that be possible for GF to create? I don't really understand that kind of stuff. I also really don't want Bank to close forever. And of course, while it isn't being used to transfer between Home and Bank, Bank should be offline and use the 3ds' storage.
I hope I didn't look like an idiot or didn't make sense. I'm just holding out hope for some kind of solution that can be added officially or by fans, if possible.
Adding info about Furfrou, all of his normal/shiny forms lose their style when going from Bank to Home, unless they are deposited directly from GO, which involves "traveling" to more than 5 specific places in the world without counting the heart form , only obtained during the Valentine's Day event in February.

Pokemon is kinda insane... Just the fact that you can technically get a Pokemon from the very first Pokemon games and transfer it ALL the way to the newest games is crazy. Unfortunately if they shut down the Pokemon Bank, this will no longer be the case. :(
Well you really cant get Pokemon from Red and Blue or Gold and Silver (except through the virtual Gameboy on the 3DS) because of a hard cut off between gens 2 and 3. But you can get a pokemon from Ruby and Sapphire into Gen 9 using legitimate hardware.
What if they release Gens 1 and 2 for the Switch again as VC games?

I got pokemon bank a couple hours before the shop closed. Then I did some reading and realized transporter existed and couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get it. Turns out I had to pay for a month (or year idk) just for it to shut down in an hour. Got it though. Thank God

I got Bank when it became free, but I refused to pay for the Poketransporter. They should have made it available for free at the same time of Bank. Fortunately I don't have any reason to use it since I got everything I need in both gen 6 and 7, but it still hurts to see.
@@mds_mainthey made it free to download but because the store was closed there wasn’t a way to navigate to the download screen. The hacking community made a mod that put you on the download screen within 2 days, which lets you download it completely legitimately

Same, but there is an unconventional way. There’s a patch for crystal called crystal clear that you can get to circumvent this. Apparently the only way to get it is through the creator’s discord so I’ll have to figure out how to use discord but it’s better than paying for what should’ve been free
I've been made aware of efforts to create fan run servers supporting the online functions of 3DS and Wii U games, which is espesh great for the gen 6 games, being that the chat Player search system or PSS is the single best form of online connectivity in the entire franchise. I really hope and effort is also being made to create fan run servers to support bank after the shutdown. It's simply unfair to shut it down this early into it's life. We know maintaining the servers is hardly a blip on Nintendo's financial radar. This feels heartless to fans no matter which way you slice it. Hopefully fans can continue the tradition of continuing support for features Nintendo is all too quick to abandon.
Not likely. Anything a Bank setver does, you can do entirely offline with a Laptop and PkHex. Why go through the trouble of making a server for a thing that by all means doesn't require one?

Would It be legal and usable in game? The caveat here is the difference between "legal" "legit" and "hacked". You can always use the Pokémon in game (given that you don't break their data with weird inputs etc.) but HOME will recognize e.g. the date you received a gift pokemon in. Meaning, if you use the DNS exploit but dont change the "date caught" data, it'd be considered hacked and not available in HOME. There are other things but TLDR: in game you can use it. Putting it up to HOME is a different story, depends tho

It's insane how they were able to put everything into the old games for 7 generations. But now all those glitches (spinda), moves deleted and such... Pokemon co is not the same anymore

And I recently found out there was a glitch in pokemon sword that made impossible to finish the game, if you just fly off rose tower before entering it. Seriously, when in old games there was such a simple glitch to drigger that made you lose all the progress in a game?? Moves deleted? Lots of them that existed since gen 1 and 2, like barrier, egg bomb, barrage, clamp etc... Some signature moves too... And a few exclusive moves from recent gens that you can not even use competitively, like after you on reuniclus/slowbro/musharna... I'm so pissed everytime I find out something I want to use is not coded into the game. It was never the case for 23 years!!

@PapuPinguino there were some notable moves removed that have no better alternatives, being frustration/return, pursuit, and hidden power. Pursuit removal being the most impactful, making ghosts incredibly strong in the metagame with much less counterplay.
This makes me more and more sadder seeing the state that overall gaming preservation is still, with no easy available way of obtaining them without using roms or hacks, and yet, they complain when we do use those methods but we have no other option. I understand services not lasting forever but it's their job to at least give us alternate ways to be able to obtain these games, or in this case, be able to obtain these Pokémon. I'm glad that more mythicals have been much easier to get by implementing them into the base game but there are still a few that have no and who knows when they'll ever come back. Why can't a lot of companies just listen... oh yeah... MONEY... :c
FANS are still maintaining the MKWII servers. These services could easily last for a lifetime with minimal effort, that's just how little they care. Triple A gaming company, remember?
How is it their "job" to always make sure we have a way to get every single thing we want from them? You think it's their responsibility, for how long exactly? Forever?? And yes, it costs money to maintain these things. Their money. They can do what they'd like with it, especially once they see that the usage of these programs is a fraction of what it used to be.
@@av2279 I'm not just talking about just Pokémon, but game preservation as a whole. Look at Smash Melee as an example, so many tournaments are held because so many people play and become great at that game but its not easy to get hold of a copy of the game nowadays so emulation is the easiest method to play it, however Nintendo are against emulation yet will not give us a way of playing this game, such as to simple put it on an NSO service. 87% of all video games as a whole are "critically endangered", not having an easy way of obtaining it or having a re-release of it. All games, good or bad, deserve to be preserved.

@@MonoHerobrine Nintendo did not create SSBM with the intention of supporting/facilitating SSBM tournaments 20+ years after its release. The fact that people still play it and compete in fan-made tournaments and events is great, but when exactly does any of that become Nintendo's responsibility to make it accessible for people? They are not obligated to support any of that. Those are decisions that fans are making on their own, and they should therefore assume all the difficulties and downsides of doing so. Nintendo didn't make any sort of official encouragement to do that (I've heard the opposite, actually), and even if they are okay with it, they never agreed to make SSBM available in xyz ways. Why do you have this perspective that they are responsible for solving this problem 20 years later?
Yes, I agree games and all media should be preserved (or at least attempted to), but "preserved" is subjective. What is enough preservation to you? That we should all be able to play any game we want at any moment, on any platform? In a tournament any time, anywhere? Secondly, and more importantly, the companies that make these games never agreed to make these games available in any way shape or form that fans demand down the road. It's not their obligation, or "job" to do that. Whether it costs them a dollar or a million to do xyz, that's their money to do with as they please. Even if they could theoretically make a profit doing it, they still don't have to do it.
To be clear, I also agree that it's annoying when companies complain about things like emulation for older games, but objectively, they released the original game how and when they wanted (with whatever support it included), and they aren't required to do anything more than that if it isn't written anywhere on the purchase.
Every single time I think TPC can't take MORE away from us, they do. The removal of Pokémon Bank will be an even more tragic loss than the horrid Dex cut, because then it means all your 3DS save files will be forever locked and disconnected from all the future games. It feels like being given a beautiful ice cream sundae and Pokémon just continuing to take more and more from it until you only have bits and pieces to cling onto.
I know the simple answer is "money" but it still continues to genuinely sadden me every new trashy decision they make to die-hard fans (and collectively, anyone who loves the IP).
Thank you SO much for this helpful "archival" sort of video. I plan on playing through Y again and Omega Ruby with the benefit of having "unlocked" 3DS features to actually capture my game footage. I know there are emulators, but I want to use my actual mons in my future games. Even if they are just bytes of data, they all have memories with them. I hope I can accomplish all of this before their next death date so I can preserve all the things I want to.
???????? You can use your actual mons on emulators, though? Emulators aren't the actual hardware, but they DO play the actual game. You can use the very same Pokemon you caught on a cartridge on your computer.
It really will be THE turning point for the history of the series, and certainly the end of an era. Replaying older games are going to have a different feel to them knowing your new team members won't be able to sit next to your old ones from your first playthrough.
I'm no engineer, but I feel like if they really cared about preservation (they probably don't), there's got to be some way they could make an adapter that connects 3DS games into the Switch cartridge slot solely to read and transfer data from Pokemon games to Home. (Even hypothetically, this is still going to screw over digital only owners)

What kills me is that my daughter (6) will never be able to play my old games and bring her favorites up to current gens. Imagine her playing HeartGold on my 3DS and she encounters a random shiny, or her favorite Pokémon finally evolves. Those Pokémon will forever be locked to that game cartridge. I had always believed if I died prematurely, at least my children and wife could always play a Pokémon game with my favorites to still feel connected to me somehow. And now because of this, they’ll never be able to bring any of those Pokémon to whatever the current games are. Really wish TPC and GF could figure this out.

Im highly upset. I remember wayyyyy back when Bank first came out i said "this will inevitable die and we will lose our connection to the past games" but everyone i knew just rolled with bank being the new thing. Here we are. Losing connection to all those past games. I honestly think gen 9 will be my last generation because to me that connection is the greatest part of pokemon. I can play gen 3 and bring it all the way up to the latest ones. Without that i just don't want to make more memories with these new games knowing one that thier connection might also die.

Agree. I won't play anything past gen 6, and I regret that gen 6 has ORAS which I love, because without it I could stick with 3-5 and not have to deal with the dread that's been hanging over me for years whenever I think of these games.
Never trust anything TPC/game freak says regarding 'future proofing'. The 3d models were supposed to be 'future proof'. Bank was supposed to be 'future proof'. I think ORAS or USUM is a good stopping point they have plenty of content.
@@pr4420 The 3d models they made were in fact future proof and the earthbound team made them besides, really has nothing to do with GF.
You forgot four moves being hold back and hold hands which were event moves only in Gen 6 and 7. And fused kyurem signature moves unlike necrozma they don’t automatically register so you need a smeargle to learn the moves as fused Pokémon can’t be put in home or bank. And the last game to have both kyurem and smeargle in it was the ultra games

All event moves get wiped when you transfer to Scarlet/Violet anyways which is a huuuuuuge devaluing of many event pokemon... some were inconsequential like Hold Hands, but others like V-Create Rayquaza and Shadow Force Arceus have big implications for their viability in battle
@@fractalisomega9517 They aren't wiped, just only viewable within HOME (it gives the option to view a Pokémon's data as they would have been in Bank).

@@Saldivinorum First of all, I never once said that HOME would never shut down. That was the fucking PINNACLE of reaching for something to argue about.
Second, I didn't correct grammar. This has nothing to do with grammar or spelling. These are two entirely different products, and which one shutting down is completely relevant.
None of what you said makes any sense or matters in the slightest. This was a feral, gut reaction to seeing someone, in your eyes, get corrected, and its a sad way to live your life. This level of insane defensiveness shouldn't be your go-to upon being course-corrected when a mistake has been made, especially when *it wasn't even you who was corrected*. I'm honestly just trying to get the point across that if PokeBank actually shuts down, Home will be a moot difference between PB because at that point Pokémon as a whole will have lost the core fans that cared enough to grind old iterations to bring them to modern versions. This will likely be the beginning of the end for Pokémons ridiculous popularity, because at that point why continue fanatic admiration for a brand that clearly doesn't care about the people that made them what they are today?

Thank you for making this! It really upsets me that bank may be closer to death than we think. As a shiny hunter and pokémon collector it's very upsetting to me because a lot of pokémon simply cannot be shiny hunted in future games even if they are available there.
Like for example deoxys, it's awesome that you are guaranteed to see one at the end of oras but also it's shiny locked obviously. But in fire Red and leaf Green with its original distribution event it was not shiny locked. So if you want a shiny form dex You are seriously going to have to rush and grind out a bunch of shiny hunts for mythical events that are very hard to access unless you know how to do certain glitches or have a cheating device to get you there.
Either way, really great video man, you went over a few things that I didn't even realize were going away that I definitely need to do before bank shuts down. I hope that it lasts at least until 2025. I mean with what they said it might not, but the idea of not being able to bring up old pokémon anymore is quite upsetting to me especially because there are so many interesting cool challenges with home that will just be incompletable.
Who knows, maybe the pokémon company will learn that re-releasing their old games will make them infinite money. So once the stuff is off the 3DS maybe they'll just release the game boy games, and maybe even the game boy advance games on the switch.
Even as someone who already owns all of the game boy advance games and game boy games I think that it is so important for them to do this. Because the prices on these games are just ridiculous and I think a big part of that is the fact that there's no official way to play them anymore other than the cartridges. Plus in Crystal they brought back the Celebi event, so maybe if we got a re-release of fire Red leaf Green and Ruby Sapphire emerald we would get official re-releases of the events like far away Island mew and birth Island deoxys

Celebi can only be shiny hunted in Crystal, Mew can only be shiny hunted in emerald, deoxys can only be shiny hunted in emerald and fire Red leaf Green, jirachi can only be hunted in generation 3 through the Colosseum bonus disc, Manaphy can only be shiny hunted in the Gen 4 games through the egg You get by beating ranger, Darkrai and shaymin can only be hunted in platinum unless you have the items that were limited time giveaways in BDSP which you can no longer get, there is also a partner cap Pikachu in pokémon Ultra Sun Ultra Moon that was meant to be shiny locked but the shiny lock did not work correctly, it displays as the exact same colors but it does have shiny sparkles so that counts as a shiny that can only be hunted in a previous game. Other than that the only other pokémon that are only able to be hunted in past generations are pokémon that are no longer available to catch in any of the switch games. Like the patrat line and the elemental monkeys. We have confirmation that they will not be returning in the DLC. Technically you can find these pokémon in pokémon GO shiny, but the monkeys specifically are spread out across the world so it's very hard to find them
Also worth saying, sun/moon and ultra sun/moon can only trade with each other. And there are Pokémon lines unobtainable that will forever be untranserable once bank closes. May be worth grabbing a member of each unobtainable line and transferring it into one of the gen 7 games to be able to breed them later if you want to use them at a later date.
There's also some unobtainable Pokemon forms that are also unbreadable like the Unown so you would need more than one pokemon per species if you plan on having a full living pokedex in the seventh gen.
The same goes for the sixth gen, as you can only obtain the autumn, winter and summer Deerling and Sawsbuck through the fifth generation or by breeding one of the same form that was already transferred.

This is why I bought Y last month and Alpha Sapphire this month. I'm keeping almost all of my Pokemon in Ultra Sun since it has the most usable Pokemon in the franchise with 807 and the amazing Battle Tree to play in.

I absolutely loved the battle tree. I love all the battle towers in each gen. It's my favorite feature in the series.
People online tend to use the same legendary mons over and over, and I find that very boring. The battle towers always have varied and creative teams. That makes them more fun, in my opinion.
@radaf4429 Well, it's basically the best take on the battle tower to date, with the cool addition of being able to recruit defeated trainers for multi battles.
Sword and Shield had a super dumbed down battle tower with no multi battles at all, and it isn't even in Scarlet and Violet yet

The concept of Bank shutting down and permanently cutting access off from Gens 1 to most of Gen 7 (as LGPE is still part of Gen 7) is truly awful and a slap in the face to those who like to transfer everything over. Even if people somehow manage to exploit Bank and make it accessible in the future, not everyone might feel comfortable tinkering with their 3DS and modding it (even though I strongly recommend to do so).
I think the worst thing is that Nintendo is adding everything BUT old Pokémon games to NSO or just a compilation rerelease. That would solve some issues such as with Celebi or Deoxys if people don’t have bank for whatever reason.
One last thing I hate is the move reset introduced in BDSP. So any event Pokémon dating as far back to Gen 3 will lose access to event moves forever unless game freak decides to rerelease these events again or have brand new events with the moves (which isn’t going to be happening).
Really hope modders can preserve bank in anyway they can, as they are doing their best to get Wii U and 3DS online servers ready as soon as possible before the official shutdown in April 2024.
It brings me back to my thoughts when it was first released. Even at like 14, I wasn't a big fan of a paid subscription model just to store my collection of Pokemon as I was lucky to even afford the 2ds and Pokemon X just to buy into the new gen. And being entirely online had me fear the day we'd lose access to it.
And now we're here, and I had no idea just how expensive and artificially limited it would get.
It would be far more justifiable if they actually allowed us to archive and reexperience their old games whether through buying them for the switch, or not having every rom try to be cracked down and removed online, but no. We have to sneakily pirate and mod thongs just to enjoy what we know they could just let us have.
And no, none of this is worth maintaining that terrible 3 year generational cycle. It simply doesn't work to try produce incrementally improved games in such short of a dev time without having them be embarrassingly unpolished. It works capitalistically, but it will seriously ruin their legacy.

@@lilpetz500 It is a shame, especially as Nintendo switch online is releasing every game except mainline Pokemon games. Sure they released Snap, Stadium and that puzzle game but they do not help at all.
You can also use PKHEX and PKSM but again you have to mod your system to be able to do that.

-Deoxys can be shiny in the Birth Island event in FRLG and Emerald. This is the only way shiny Deoxys has ever been obtainable.
-Darkrai and Shaymin in DPPT can be shiny. The void glitch can be used in Diamond and Pearl to reach both of them, but may be flagged as illegitimate if you try to transfer them up. Platinum players will have to hack in the event items in order to hunt, but these should not get flagged. These two can be shiny in BDSP, however the distribution for their events has long since passed, so I figured I would mention them here. (Thank you @MarkHogan994)
-Type: Null can be gifted as shiny in SM & USUM. The one gifted in SWSH is shiny locked.
-Poipole is the same situation, can be shiny in USUM, but is shiny locked in the Crown Tundra
-Jirachi from the Pokemon Colosseum Bonus Disc can be shiny. This is an infamously difficult hunt that requires a lot of hardware, I’d recommend your own research on the matter.
-Manaphy eggs from the Pokemon Ranger games can be shiny. This is THE infamously difficult shiny hunt that requires a lot of hardware, a lot of time (yikes), and a ton of luck. Again, I’d recommend doing your own research if interested.
Note on Isle of Armor Alolan Diglett: Hidden Abilities cannot be removed in SwSh. It has to be transfered to Scarlet or Violet first, than an Ability PATCH needs to be used.
There's also the fact that, about Ash-Greninja, the SM demo only works with the og Sun and Moon games, not with the Ultra versions, and of course the demo is no longer legally available now.
Also, I think there are some pokemon forms that are only available through Bank right now and that haven't been mentioned, like the Pokeball pattern Vivillon.

Yes, but I was referring to the pokedex entries not the forms themselves. I've heard that you can only unlock the megas entries if you already have them registered in Bank.
Couple of notes:
- The Kalos starters are technically available in SV if you did their respective Mightiest Mark raids, or know someone who did to get a bred one from them. They'll be in the Indigo Disk though regardless.
- FURFROU IS THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE! Ok not really, but since it can only retain its trim through Go, FOR SOME REASON, that means you need to catch 10 Furfrou in Go, get 225 Furfrou Candy, go to real world Asia-Pacific, Europe/Middle East/Africa, Americas/Greenland, France, Japan, AND Egypt, and also wait for a 1 week event in February JUST to get the different trims. And if you want them shiny, well good luck with that one. I REALLY hope that in the next games, whatever they may be, they both bring back Furfrou AND let the trim stay around as a form change along the lines of something like Deoxys where it can be reversed by choice, but otherwise stays.
- As far as I'm aware, Partner Cap Pikachu is NOT shiny locked, meaning if you want one, you'd better go for it as soon as possible. You can always grind out the regular one if Bank is going to shut down soon (when inevitably announced), but the shiny will take much more time to get.
- Any moves learned by the Ultra Beasts are potentially worth picking up on them, since they're SUPER easy to get in USUM thanks to being able to buy Beast Balls and use the Ultra Warp Ride.
- Speaking of Beast Balls, now is THE best time to stock up on Pokemon in Beast Balls. Since they're purchasable ONLY in USUM, they're the easiest games to catch Pokemon in them. If for some reason you may in the future want to obtain a bred shiny of a specific Pokemon catchable in USUM in a Beast Ball, now would be the time to go catch them and transfer them up. (Personally, I'm 100% going for Greninja). Sure, the ball is in SWSH/SV, but you only get 1 unless you get lucky with RNG after beating the league/academy again. For that reason, I'd also recommend SAVING your Beast Ball in SWSH/SV for a Pokemon exclusive to those games. (Personally, I'm going for a shiny Iron Valiant)
- One more HUGE thing to mention are Ribbons. Every ribbon exclusive to Gen 3-7 will be forever lost to time if not obtained now. If you feel like getting a Ribbon Master, NOW would be the time to start, considering just how many contests and battle facilities you need to go through. While some ribbons like the ones for Hyper Training or certain Champion Ribbons MAY become available in the future with new games/remakes, the Ribbons from XD/Colosseum will more than likely STAY locked to those games, so if they're something you'd want... well good luck with eBay on that one.
As a beast ball enjoyer, I've thought about trying to do a living dex (Or as much of one as is possible) of beast ball mons. The guaranteed catches in the gen 8 + 9 raids are amazing for this, especially if you're willing to farm balls with a turbo controller overnight at the school tournament.
@@alexspeedwagon3701 Sounds like a pretty hefty goal, but I'm sure with enough time it could be done. I think it'd be best to start with USUM to catch as many Pokemon there in Beast Balls since they're readily available, then seeing what's left to clean up in SWSH/SV before moving on to the new Gen 8 and 9 Pokemon.
Right off the bat you can tell that pretty much every Mythical won't be available. Another potential problem could be with Vivillon's patterns, though I think you can breed while a postcard effect is active and get them that way instead of grinding out and using like 20 Beast Balls. Also thanks to SV, you can save scum to guarantee 1 Beast Ball per Pokemon.
Good luck if you choose to pursue this goal. I'd get the jump on it now if I were you, just in case anything gets announced for Bank.

For anyone looking to speed certain things up, in gen VII you can learn level up moves at any level via heart scale. This does require you to make it to the pokemon center right before the elite four, but it can save a lot of level up time if you have a decent amount of heart scales.
Also heart scales in SM/USUM are easy to stockpile because everyday you get a free meal at 2 restaurants with the Island Kahunas.
Each meal is completely free and you get 4 heart scales.
The lost shiny hunting methods is a real shame
2:23 Or via a glitch in Gold and Silver. I did a glitch that turned a Shiny Gyarados I cloned into a Celebi - and due to being Shiny, it carried over to the Celebi, so it turned into a Shiny Celebi. I also got the Celebi from that Pokémon Bank event back when it launched. So I'm fine with not getting the Celebi from Crystal.
Though created from a glitch, the Celebi is still considered legit as long as it's Level 30+ and knows moves it can learn, so I didn't hack to get it or anything.

First video I've watched that talks about moves and abilities currently gone forever when Bank goes down. I've already done my big "catch everything I can and move it to Home" thing two years ago now after setting out to do it three years ago, but I didn't account for moves and the like. Through pure dumb luck I have most of them already, Trump Card, Powder, and Ion Deluge being the only moves I need to work hard to get. That said, thank you for this video and giving me another reason to go back and do a bit more clean up in the older games. I'd feel really stupid for not having Assist of all moves because I didn't level up Purrloin two more times or Steamroller because I didn't do the same with any of the Venipede line.
My Shaymin will live forever in my 3DS. I like to pet him and feed him and I imagine he's a virtual pet. I don't care about the bank but it's good to know that I'd potentially have lost my Shaymin to the servers of Nintendo.

A Shiny Zeraora was given out during a Pokémon Home event, but that event is over. Luckily, I have the Shiny Zeraora in my Home account.
It's also very interesting to see people finding out about gen 4 and 5 DNS exploits this many years after the games came out. I didn't have wifi or other friends witha DS when I was a kid playing gen 4 so I used the DNS exploit constantly to fill out the dex. Very happy there's a renewed interest in it (even if the circumstances aren't... great), I've always found it super fun
Notably, if Bank shuts down you lose a LOT of consistent RNG manipulation options. While I haven't done any myself, I hear a LOT of praise to easier shiny methods such as Chatot rng progression, the call system in HGSS, etc.
There's also the really cool HGSS event pokemon, like the SHINY LEGENDARY DOGS.
I had no idea furfrou was so rare. Why the hell did they make like 10 forms of a pokemon with only 20% apperance rate in a single route of a single game.
Pokemon go isn't even much better, only having it during fashion week (which happens to be going on right now actually) but at least it's pretty common in that case.

All this does is send the wrong message to the bankers at GF.
The entire premise of Bank and HOME especially is sold on this goodwill abuse.
It sucks, because at the end of the day, GF started as a company that really cared about what they were making. They cared about fans. Then they made literally ALL of the money, got shareholders and CEOs, and we stopped being people. Now we're wallets.

I collected all pokemon that were available in the DreamWorld. I have been breeding them all in Gen6.
For the ones that are Genderless, Male-only, or were Gender Locked as Male, i bred them in Gen7.
Before Gen7 you couldn't pass the Father's pokeball to the babies, so as of Gen7 you could finally pass over DreamBall Pikachu, Elemental Monkies, Gen1-3-4 Starters, and all Male-only and Genderless pokemon.

Randomly stumbled across you, this is 1st vid I've watched and I love it absolutely very informative and not rushed!!
It really hurts in a lot of ways that Pokemon Bank is closing. I still play through a lot of the older games going all the way back to Gen 3 (just finished another play through of Leaf Green the other day). It especially stings when you consider that so much of Bank's marketing back when it came out was all about how you'll always be able to bring up your pokemon from older games as long as you still have those old games. The awesome Shadow Lugia from XD? Bring it on up whenever you want to. Your very first starter from Ruby or Sapphire? They can come too. That shiny Gyarados from the Lake of Rage? Take it with you too. No need to rush either, they can always be brought up later. Also, it definitely feels like a big middle finger to all of us who have been shiny hunting Celebi in the Crystal VC with no luck. Like, what are we supposed to do if we just have really bad luck and don't get the shiny Celebi until after Bank goes down? I guess we're just fucked. This is just the newest in a long line of decisions that Nintendo has been making to the detriment of Pokemon fans everywhere.
Pokemon GO player here, the only regional pokemon locked to certain continents among the ones mentioned in the first section are Pansear, Pansage, and Panpour (and their respective evolutions as a result). There have been limited time events that allowed you to catch them anywhere in the world though.
All the other non-mythical/non legendaries are in the game (except Minior), the only limitation being that it might depend on the specific season we are on. As for the legendaries, you can get Celebi, Victini, Meloetta (by completing their special research, which should be available to all players) and Genesect (this one is occasionally in raids, so you can obtain it only during specific times).
You cannot currently get Diancie (unless you played during GO Fest this summer), Hoopa (unless you played in 2021 and got a special research which awarded it), Volcanion, Marshadow, or Zeraora (these 3 are not yet in the game).

I made a list of the Pokémon not available on the Switch towards the start of the year, and it was pretty similar. Thankfully they took the Sewaddle and Ducklett lines off the list with the Teal Mask, and with the ones confirmed for the Indigo Disk, that would be just 5 regular lines (Patrat, Furfrou, and the monkeys) left off the Switch…not counting mythicals. Yeah, those ones are definitely the wild cards in this process. Though I should note that there were distributions for a few of them on the Switch, like the shiny Zeraora raid, a GameStop distribution for Genesect, Volcanion, and Marshadow, and probably a couple others. But if you missed those, then yeah, there’s no legitimate way to get them yet.
Though honestly, out of all of these, I’d say the most baffling exclusion right now is Furfrou, especially since its trims are currently only available in Go, and most of those are region-locked. I really hope that’s amended soon because I’m sick of them being treated as trade locks!
The QR Scanner in Gen 7 is the only way to register several shiny locked Pokemon as shiny in Pokemon Home's Pokedex, as Pokemon Bank transfers all Pokedex entries from gen 6 and 7 games whenever you do a transfer.
Two very minor and admittedly nitpicky corrections:
Bank isn't exactly "forward compatible," more accurately HOME is _backwards_ compatible with Bank. You could argue these are the same thing, but since Bank wasn't developed with HOME in mind (the other way around is the case) I think it's merely worth noting, that's all.
While region exclusives are a thing in GO, there are pretty frequent events that mitigate this. For example, Mega Kangaskhan is about to get another round of Raids, and since Kang is usually only available in Australia, this is an opportunity for the rest of the world to obtain it. We also get events that do stuff like making all the unova monkeys available in all regions, which i think has happened three times now? And most kanto celebration events bring all the kanto regionals worldwide for a while.
I see why people don't want to count GO for many reasons but again worth noting that the region exclusive problem usually isn't a big deal, especially with trading being a thing (and if you're desperate, many spoofers are willing to trade regionals for pretty cheap and their location locked nature isn't a problem for those players.)
Also GO is the only way to get Meltan registered in the main series
Any and all corrections are welcome. You are correct on the backward compatibility part, that line of the script was more so about delivering a point in a clear way. I'll look for another way to communicate that point using more accurate terminology.
I appreciate the information you can share on GO, this is definitely something worth mentioning, especially for those without access to decade old games like X and Y.
GO is also the only current way to transfer Furfrou's trims to Home unfortunately
And without a GO transfer you cannot access Gigantamax Melmetal.
Also, GO is pretty much required to get all the various Vivillon forms in ScVi.
@@mds_main I've done it without Go but is a pain to do. Luckily on GTS on Home, you can trade for certain patterns which is nice, it essentially required trading Vivillon from X/Y which admittedly is tedious but possible.
Go is also the only way to get the Wandering form of Gimmighoul.
@@mds_mainExactly. I can sometimes understand why main series players dislike this - GO is a free mobile game with a paid currency, which is a business model I totally understand people not liking. But the thing is, Niantic has never made a pokemon _species_ purchase-exclusive (forms and a couple shiny mythicals have been but tbh those are a little understandable to me. The devs need to eat. And also they usually get a free release after a while if it isn't mythical shiny, but most of the shiny mythicals have been freely available in go at least once)
Essentially, the way I see it, GO being the only way to get some mons calls back the the 90s and 2000s where you had to have your gameboy, an N64, and a couple games for both to truly "catch em all." Except now those extra games are boiled down to one free game that you can play on your phone wherever you are. For MOST mythicals, it boils down to a Special Research story, requiring you to catch lots of pokemon, prove your aim accuracy, and complete certain in game achievements: Mew won't join you until you can prove to it you're worthy. Isn't this what you guys wanted? A whole story and quest to get mythicals instead of "here type this code"????
Also for celebi you don't have to reset your game to get more, you could clone it by using the trick where you close the game while saving (look it up if you want to do it), and once you transfer them to bank they will have different IVs and if each clone has different amounts of EXP, different natures too.

Shiny Type Null, Shiny Manaphy, shiny Celebi, and shiny Poipole will no longer be able to be shiny hunted since in the later games, they are all shiny locked.
With all the money the Pokemon Company makes they really should be able to affort to keep the Bank servers forever up and running.
That said, I remember when people said that dexit would only be a temporary problem, that in a generation lifespan we would have gotten everything a la gen 6... It didn't age quite so well did it?
Well, we are almost at the point where all Pokemon will be on the Switch. As long as there is a remake of Unova we will pretty much be there.

It doesn't matter, shutting Bank down will still sever the link between seven entire generations and the rest of the franchise.
People still talk of the negative impact of the severed link between gen 2 and 3, but at least there was a hw problem there, here the only problem I see is a greed one.

It was really sad moving every single Pokémon out from my bank and into HOME. It was like their old home was destroyed and they couldn’t go back no matter what.

This is great info! I was going through my excel sheets for my living form dex and shiny dex to see what I needed from 3ds before the closure, but this video is going to make tracking them down to check if I have them MUCH easier.
For me it just seems to make sense that Nintendo is going to have to bring the older gen games into the modern era on the switch in some way - find a way to do the ds and 3ds games digitally with 2 screens on the same screen or add a peripheral we can all buy like the wii U controller, something. They have - generally - been very good about making sure that the older games are preserved digitally and not just lost for newer players, so I'm eager to see what they do.
If nothing else, I would expect them to fill the holes on switch (likely with a rumored and highly likely Gen 5 remake next year), and do another run of mythical events to help people get access to them, at some point sooner than later. Time will tell!

Multiple files for the elemental monkeys, they can be found in rustling grass in Lostlorn and Pinwheel forests.
Currently going through all my old games and I had several copies of a lot of event pokemon between all my 3DS games. Feels pretty nice knowing I can transfer them all into Home now. And I feel even better after learning that a lot of these mythicals are just straight up unobtainable but I guess that's what gives them value in trading.
The easiest way to get Galvanize Alolan Geodude/Graveler/Golem and Power of Alchemy Grimer/Muk is to transfer one of those from an Gen 1 or 2 virtual console game (since they always have their hidden ability from a VC game if they have one, which both lines do) and breed them in Alola, which will still get the hidden ability chance as long as that parent is female or breeding with a Ditto. This way you don’t have to SOS chain in Alola which can be tedious to know if it even has the hidden ability and take a while anyway, or waste an ability patch in Scarlet/Violet which aren’t the easiest to obtain. It also just makes it easier if you want multiples with the hidden ability

It's always so interesting for me to watch these. I started my living dex over a decade ago, so I'm caught up with every generation that comes, only catching new Pokémon with each game. I'm aware of all the options available for catching returning Pokémon, but it's usually nothing I care for. I'm just intrigued about how new generations of trainers are doing with their national dex journey starting out now.
I could probably do it, but what's the point? I have a 3ds with Poke transfer and pokebank and games going back to platinum but why bother? It's just going to be Home closing in 5 years instead and by then I'll be pushing 30 and have forgotten. My brother had the living dex going for a while and stopped paying attention around the time S/M came out so im sure his bank got nuked and it had pokemon older than me.
Regardless of the corrections I'll make, I must say that this is a great video, no one has already covered this topic as far as I know and there isn't that much time left. So, thank you for the effort.
Obviously now the evolutionary lines of every First Partner Pokémon, Blitzle and Pikipek, plus Minior and Meloetta, are available in The Indigo Disk part of the gen IX DLC, so we got that covered. But Spinda should also be mentioned, since it can't be deposited in HOME neither from GO nor from BDSP. Poké Ball Pattern Vivillon is also not available at all on Switch, being event only like Diancie and Hoopa (it has never been distributed outside gen VI too).
Zeraora with its standard colour was only available on 3DS, and the same goes for Celebi. Diancie, Hoopa and Deoxys are the mythicals that have been never distributed on Switch as now, while all the others are or have been obtainable during events, it's more a matter of requisites or time frame than of transferring. The seven Cap Pikachu forms also returned in events for Sword & Shield with their eighth new iteration.
I'd also mention the shiny versions that are transfer-only: Darkrai and Shaymin (the two were previously obtainable on BDSP with event items), Aurora Ticket Deoxys, JPN Old Map Mew, Type: Null & Silvally, Poipole & Naganadel, JPN/TW event Jirachi and the "unintended releases" that are VC 8f Mew, Colosseum Bonus Disc/Channel Jirachi and Manaphy from the Ranger egg, plus shiny Partner Cap Pikachu (which should be noted that unlike Magearna is exclusive to USUM).
Last but not least, in the moves section there is a missing one between the pre-Switch games ones, Punishment, while Beak Blast is confirmed to have returned in version 3.0.0 of Scarlet and Violet.
If we count Psycho Boost of Deoxys then there would be other exclusive moves of some mythicals that are still in the games: Hyperspace Hole/Fury (Hoopa), Diamond Storm (Diancie), Fleur Cannon (Magearna). But also, Searing Shot and V-Create (Victini), Techno Blast (Genesect), Steam Eruption (Volcanion), Spectral Thief (Marshadow), Plasma Fists (Zeraora) and... well, Zarude's Jungle Healing, but it's not a transferrable one, for sure.
There are also some event-only moves, namely Happy Hour, Celebrate, Hold Hands and Hold Back: the last two are also M.I.A. since the 3DS games, so they're locked behind Bank. But Happy Hour had the same destiny through all gen VIII until that Hisuian Zoroark was distributed this year, so we can hope.
This is a really interesting vid to revisit post PLZA announcement. PLZA will very likely have a large chunk of these pokemon that are locked to 3ds titles, so their plan is to probably keep releasing home compatible games until every Pokemon is represented on switch, then shut down bank a month later
It’s worth noting that in Pokemon Go every so often they release regional exclusives for bigger events. This past Go Fest they had Carnivine and Pachirisu in eggs. And Kangaskhan is in mega raids right now.
But it’s also true that the full National Pokedex has also not been released in game yet. And some Pokemon are (frustratingly) likely not to be released again anytime soon. Like Zarude.
I’d say people should keep it an option to fill some holes, but don’t rely on it completely.
Hah! I bought Crystal (and Yellow) on my 3ds as impulse purchases so am surprised to see early in the vid that Crystal is necessary if I ever wanted to start a fresh living dex. Interested to see what exclusive content is locked there.
you can get the Kalos starters in SV. they were in event raids and there's people that are breeding the heck out of theirs to send to people that missed out on the events and to get shinies in the johto balls
Lovely video! I like how you even went through moves and abilities. A couple of notes for the updated video you plan on doing:
1.) Spinda. Although Spinda is available in BDSM (and Go!) they cannot be transferred from any of those games to Home because of how they were programmed. The ONLY way to get Spinda in Home is if it originated in a pre-Switch game and got transferred in through Bank.
2.) Quick note on Mega Rayquaza: it actually ISN'T automatically registered in Home if you just deposit a Rayquaza from the Crown Tundra. Unlike other Mega Evolutions, you specifically need your Rayquaza to know the move Dragon Ascent for it to add the Mega form to your Home dex. (I would presume the same likely goes for its ability.) That said, you can still learn this move in Sword or Shield.
3.) Shiny locks. I believe that there may be some shiny Pokémon which were only available to catch before the Switch games. I think that the Poipole and Type: Null lines may be examples of this, where they weren't shiny-locked on the 3DS but they are on Switch. Manaphy may be a complicated case of this as well. (You can shiny hunt for Manaphy legitimately using DS games, but it's... complicated.) As of this comment, I don't believe that any of those shiny Pokémon are available in Pokémon Go, either.

Something to note about gen 5 is that we know that the Snivy, Tepig and Blitzle lines will be coming to the switch with the release of the Indigo Disk next month
You probably couldn’t go into a ton of detail in a video, but it might be worth noting that some ball catch combos will become impossible once Bank shuts down unless you breed from legacy catches.
For example, unless Indigo Disk introduces safari balls, the only way to get a Geodude line in safari ball is to catch it in the safari zone of HGSS and then bring it forward via Bank.
This also applies to bug Pokémon you can catch in park balls in HGSS that don’t exist in SwSh as well.
And then there are certain Pokémon you can’t catch in apriball, dream, or beast balls outside of pre-Gen 8 games. This applied to Gen 4 starters but likely will not be the case when the DLC part 2 for SV is released

I only got my 3ds like a year ago and have since gotten a few pokemon games second hand that I've yet to play. Guess I better get grinding. Shame Nintendo has such little care for game preservation, I really hope one day they bring old pokemon games back as VCs
I really hope that this means the Switch 2 will have a similar app and all un-remade games on Virtual Console or NSO be compatible with it, and not that TPC and Nintendo aren't just leaving us hanging.

Aside from the normal mons in the video which is just a matter of time until they can be put into a game. Currently I believe it’s any new legends for the switch games, most mythicals, Cosmog, and Cosmoem you can’t get outside of events.
Type: Null, Silvally, Poipole, Naganadel, Celebi from crystal, Jirachi from the coliseum bonus disk, are all currently shiny huntable, but will be unobtainable outside of events when bank shuts down.
Technically you can shiny hurt Mew from faraway island, Deoxys from birth island, Darkrai and Shaymin in either Platinum or BDSP but those required events to access. And we’re not gonna talk about Manaphy.
I believe that’s all of them. Any others I missed?
Shaymin and Darkrai were only officially available in Pt (not DP), so Pokémon Bank most likely will block them caught in DP from transfering.

But for this I had ignored glitches. With arbitrary script execution alone you’d be able to get anything from Gen 1-4. I don’t know when that was patched though.

While unavailable now, Victini was available to get in Sword and Shield back in 2022 through a code distribution. If i remember correctly there was also a code distribution at gamestops for Volcanion, Marshadow and Genesect as well however i unfortunately missed out on them :(

Completely wiping out the first 7 generations of games is just downright evil, it might be improbable with how many people still play modern Pokémon today, but I genuinely hope TPC goes under.
Bank is probably gonna get axed after they release Gen 10 or The Switch 2. Best way to save Bank is make it usable without Wifi and make it done through Wireless.
It may be hard, but it’d be nice if they could update bank to use the infrared and have the switch HOME detect it. Then just make bank an SD or local storage instead of a server host.
Or make Bank local host and sell an adapter to have the 3DS signal become a switch signal for HOME to detect. Something at least…

I loved this video and it make me go back and play the post game in my copy. You can meet multiple legendaries in a single day, they each have its own requirements.
The swords of justice are the exception, because each of them show up specific days of the week.
The once a day are mirage location that have certain Pokémon and items on them
I can’t believe they haven’t just made a PC program at this point. Sell an adapter that takes all the old cartridges from GBC to DS that connects via USB and be able to connect the program with your Home account. It feels like they’ve created a problem that shouldn’t be this hard to solve.
I was offline for around 4 years and when i looked into bank it was completely empty. All my progress from gen 4 until gen 6 gone...absolutely devastating :( i had so many shinies and alot were legit aswell. I feel like ive lost connection to my younger self 😢
I remember using an action replay for the dsi from a friend giving me it, man the memories of capturing people's pokemon n sorts were fun and transferring em to bank, but damn...
To me it's just a game really and even if everything is gone I can just recreate my savefile using cheats since Pokemon games have basically the best save editing software ever.

Something else to consider is the specific combinations for species and pokeball type. Spinda being an example where after bank is shut down it won't be possible to get more in the apricorn balls. Also any Pokemon that has only appeared in BDSP and not SWSH or SV will be limited to trading in the apricorn balls since you can't get those in BDSP without cheating
i mean you can still breed them in bdsp, just a matter of getting your hands on one first though.

I know that Scarlet/Violet forcibly resets moves once you transfer a Pokemon into the games, but they do keep those moves when in Pokemon Home and as a completionist, I'd love to get as many of those as possible beforehand
