im not racist, but hate how they thought this movie was a good idea. in fact, some of the actresses in this who are black said “black people cant be racist” which is one of the most racist things to say.
The movie also never said that that character was correct in making that statement. Black people can certainly be racist, I mean look at Clarence Thomas lol
Being proud of a race or ethnicity sets oneself apart from others, no matter what race or ethnicity it is. It says "I am proud of what I am!" instead of "I am proud of who I am!" (race/ethnicity versus culture/way of life), which is likely one of the reasons why there is so much discourse. Everyone is proud of WHAT they are, and pride easily falls into arrogance, which easily falls into violence and superior feeling.
Y'all this show is based off the movie where a really extreme radical black women starts seeing the other sides view points and leaning more moderate(article about not dating your oppressor then dates said oppressor). It also shows various stereotypes in both races. The writer is holding up a mirror to society and showing us how we're all in the wrong for various reasons because acknowledging out faults is how we can finally have a healthy conversation about race in america. If your instant thought about this is that it's "racist" because of the title, you're the one that needs to watch it.
They're basting it off of it. I don't know when it takes place in the timeline or how much of it overlaps with the movie. The writer and director for the movie is the same writer for this series.

@@ARKINHK Okay, hold on. I thought the reason we didn't like the " retarded left, demorats, soiboys and 'communities'" is BECAUSE they would yell racism from the rooftops? I may have misinterpreted what you are implying by "And you think that makes it OK?", but I am going to work off of what it seems to me like you are saying (that being that you think this show is NOT OK for being satirical). We don't like people who shout "NOT OK, THIS IS RACIST!" from the rooftops. But right now, someone is explaining the satirical nature of this show and you are questioning whether it is OK. The point you seemed to make is that if the title was "Dear Black People" and the premise was flipped, the people you seem to dislike (or downright despise) would shout racist. Therefore, wouldn't it be a smart move for you to distance yourself from that action and instead consider this show okay, because if you yelled "Racist!" from a rooftop you would be perfectly imitating them?
@@kennymichaelalanya7134 Personally, I think the equality should allow more than it restricts. A Utopian society where only evil doers have guns, and you can't curse or even have a debate about the government and how one can live.
After just watching a snoop maya with her title saying Dear black people got me thinking we should do dear black people. Because of me saying that there’s some UA-cam videos where they say light skin or dark skin that’s just dividing us black people. And we have black parents who whoop their kids raging their anger out, them not believing depression is real for black people which it is. Black parents don’t need to post themselves whooping their kids on social media. You can’t act a certain race just because a black male or female acts “hood” dosen’t mean they’re acting black that’s just how they are. Then there’s style and music some blacks will tell other blacks that you can’t listen to Kpop, Pop music, or country and blacks made country music in the first place just because you listen to other music genres dosen’t make you less black you’re still black till the end of the day. Some black people will tell other blacks they can’t listen to that music and it’s sad then lastly style. Blacks can wear what they want don’t let anyone tell you otherwise especially by you own people. Us blacks are still blacks till the end of the day and will FACE the same struggles of being black in America other blacks needs to stop this and I know we have Dear white people that had a message towards the show which it isn’t racist.
And if a white man or women wants to make a Dear Black people that can tell every black person that you can’t keep dividing each other or tell your own people that you can’t listen to kpop because it makes you less black. THEY might even get black lash BUT it’s the truth and they just have to deal with it. I would watch a show with a dear black people because we also need to chill
but the thing is.. yk how women say #killallmen. if men would say that towards women it would be sexist. but the reason its ok for us to say it is because years back we were treated like shit. we had no rights and so. its the same thing here, black people have had it tough because of white people, that's why its ok for them to say it
simona rothman the #killallmen jokes were a backfire to the many rape jokes men say. it’s not okay for anyone to be racist. its not okay for black people or white people or any other ethnicity to say ‘it’ (idk what ‘it’ ur referring to) all in all just stop.

The amount of people in the comments reducing this show to white-bashing propaganda is insane. It’s almost like whenever any media that 1) is critical of white people in any way and 2) also centers POC comes out, certain viewers burst into flames. Anyone who has watched even two episodes of this show knows that it centers Black stories while also presenting a nuanced take on doing the right thing in a world where the right thing never seems to stay consistent. In other words, the “woke” characters still have baggage and the “unwoke” characters have lots of depth. Sam is a Black empowerment activist but also has a white bf and a white dad, both of whom she tries to hide. Coco is a boujee top student who came from a hard life and distances herself from Black culture out of trauma and self-preservation. Gabe is a white guy who tries to check his privilege but even then lies about being Native American on a job application (I think). I myself am a white Latina and I found myself identifying with multiple characters in this story. I really encourage the more conservative people in the comments to watch with an open mind
The blacks once lost the "Plantation Privilege" when food and housing was provided when there was no work to be done and free men and their families with no land were starving. Welfare restored the Plantation Privilege.
I'm definitely seeing some people who are black and haven't watched the show but are using it as justification for being racist, too. Which is hilarious because the show criticizes and makes fun of people like that, as well as the type of people you described. Everyone bitching in the comments is made fun of in this show, regardless of skin color, and you can tell NONE of them watched it.
Ik this comment is super late but the title of the show is addressed in the first fucking episode and besides, most of the show doesn't even go by the title because most of it is satire, or just their personal lives. Things only got serious in the last episodes. Nothing offensive about white people in general was in the show. Sam was talking about the white people in the university, and the only reason that I know is because I, unlike most people here, actually watched the fucking show. And also there are plenty of examples of white people that aren't labeled as racist, like gabe, or the fact that Sam is mixed and has a white father.
Something else worth noting is that even the white people at the campus are not painted as villains. They're just another group of people with their own opinions (usually). Even the main bully is shown to be less of a racist and more of a general jackass over time as you get to know him better, and one white character suffers from constant racism from EVERYONE just because he's white and wants to hang out with the black kids. I went into this show just so I could criticize it as an informed person rather than a presumptuous bigot, and I'm glad I did, because it's nothing like what I expected it to be. It's a great show.
@@GigaLigma Exactly, why do so many people ignore everything else except the title. Literally in the first episode Sam says "Dear White People is a misnomer,".
What I don't get is, if Sam is mixed why would she post something about black people not dating white people. I mean us mixed people, love both black and white people
She's a very complicated, very racist, and very confused person. Her character is all about inner conflict and how it makes her do stupid shit. For instance, she has a white boyfriend, but she constantly attacks and belittles him because her black friends put social pressure on her to hate white people. Whenever she does anything less than publicly attack a white person, someone is there to say she's "not black enough." And vice versa, the white people at the campus don't like her because she's constantly criticizing them so she can fit in with her peers. The environment around her just makes her into a very hateful, confused, misguided person. She learns how to be less of these things over the course of the show and it's really heartwarming at times.
They should release two trailers, first a trailer very racist to white people, then a trailer very stereotypically racist to black people and appear to be a Sargon of Akkad Styled video. This will show the smart contradiction and show the true message the show was showing. This show is legit good, just have crappy initial advertising.
I think this show's initial reception would have been MUCH better if it did this! The trailers and title make it seem like it's going to be... something else, y'know? I mean I'm white and I avoided this show for a while after release because I heard and assumed it was just another hyper-aggressive SJW piece. Now after watching it, it's one of my favorite shows for its wonderful characters, heavy depth and astoundingly unbiased perspective (and the genuine comedy). It's a commentary on race dynamics in the USA, not "white people." That's the real point of its name.
You clearly haven’t watched the show have you? Incase, it’s talking about black People in NOWADAYS society like.. police brutality, getting rejected from colleges because of their skin color etc... the title seems off but the show is good.

And that's the problem white people always say skin color dont matter I only see a person. Well because of that attitude we have problems like these because nobody addresses that we all see color unless were color blind. It cant be help I know white people will think if I cross the street should I walk by him or not I dont want to seem racist So this I dont see color we all bleed the same yes we do but trying to say we are all the same only distracts fro. i thought this show is going to be all about satire of sjw things happening in everywhere and whatnot. even the title shows that this is going to be something satirical. so I assume that those dislikes are coming from those extreme feminists or sjws..?
It's satirical and anti-SJW. The title is misleading as it's really only the name of the radio podcast within the series and doesn't mean what it would seem to mean on the surface. The show is actually about faults within the black community with racism against whites being one of the issues, hence the title of the radio show.
If you're here wondering if this show is good or if it's just an aggressive shit-stirring piece, here's my take on it as someone who had similar thoughts. I honestly went into this show, as a white guy, expecting it to just be another heavily biased SJW-driven trainwreck with a bad plot that would preach aggressive bias under the veil of equality. I was determined to give it a chance due to its popularity, but I expected it to be preachy and not as much of a "comedy" as it was labeled. I was very wrong. It's a realistic and often entirely fair, surprisingly objective look at race struggles in the US. It doesn't make it look like a one-sided thing or group people together and generalize them, be they black, white, or pink with purple polkadots. The setting overall is a majority-white ivy league campus and focuses primarily around a group of very racially motivated black students dealing with some white bullies and a majority white campus security force. Most of these students really do have it hard, and sometimes it really IS because of their race. However, that's not always the case in this show, and it's not shy about criticizing EVERYONE'S viewpoints. In a word, it is realistic. I'll just get this out of the way immediately: there are black characters who are assholes or even blatantly racist themselves at times, and there are white characters who are not painted as complacent villains. Even one of the primary bullies has astounding depth put into making him appear to be someone who isn't necessarily racist at heart, but targets and victimizes everyone he can through whatever means he has, regardless of who they are. He believes in true "equality" in a sense, except he's a dick to everyone. The idea of racism also goes both ways in this show; the group of black students have come to hate the white majority in the school due to mistreatment, and some of them take extreme actions or attack people who did nothing wrong. The show doesn't act like they're heroes for this and makes it clear that the issue is complicated and everyone has a side of the story. In fact, each episode typically focuses on a different character just to give you their perspective in an objective manner and help you understand why they act the way they do. MOST of the characters in the show are not bad people. They're just realistic people, and often confused about themselves, their lives, and the society they live in. Most of them struggle to communicate and make harsh assumptions about each other, leading to constant unnecessary conflict. It paints a strong picture about the situation in the USA and how segregating it can be, for everyone, regardless of their race. It's a self-perpetuating cycle of hate driven by people's real experiences, their confusion, and their struggles with the environment. People have their own groups that are practically set in stone, and they constantly alienate anyone who isn't exactly like themselves, regardless of what the color of their skin is. But more important than the message of mutual hate and extreme bias on all sides, this show sends a message of inclusivity and peace as well. The only way a problem is EVER solved in this show is through people treating each other as equals and working together. Whether the problem is related to race or something else, virtually any time a character tries to make it one-sided or all about themselves, they make things worse and end up directly punished for it. It's fair and realistic, and in the end, the show's core message is about how people need to come together and focus on what they have in common, rather than segregate each other and discriminate based on their differences. All parties are responsible in this show, and they learn and grow together. In the end, I think what Dear White People wants to say is that people need to stop making enemies of each other and instead come together, which just can't happen if everyone's always focused solely on the differences between each other. It's a great show with a great message, and worth the watch no matter who you are (unless you are a racist asshole, in which case you probably won't like it).
People are saying the show is well balanced.... Well fine, but there's still something about the obsession with race itself that bothers me. I don't relate to the obsession at all... and I don't believe there's any serious oppression today, and nothing carrying forward that can't be overcome with a better attitude. I just don't buy into the whole idea of the show...
@@ianrust3785 but the show is accurate at depicting the real conversations we're having today no? i mean you can say you dont relate but your very viewpoint is featured in the show numerous times.
@@moon-pw1bi Looking at the trailers it seems to me they caricaturize the viewpoint and get derailed into dramatizing the biases in policing and criminal justice.... that's really just a political issue meant to increase voter turnout, the statistics don't actually support the idea that's happening all over the place, so... it's hard for me to take a conversation seriously that's based on a false premise... I may not personally relate but if the premises were sound I could at least consider them.
@Ly dye Apparently that's just fine, but a show called "Dear black people" would never see the light of day. That's the double standard I'm pointing out.
I'm not attacking you for having an opinion. Me telling you my opinion is not attacking you. You think when someone disagrees with you that they are attacking you. So giving an opinion to an opinion is attacking just like you giving an opinion to this opinionated show. By saying this kind of stuff divides america is b.s. so having the black race constantly feel they cant tell their country how they feel is why we wre like this wow. Giving an opinion and not wanting people( black people) to give an opinion no better yet their feelings is oppressing them. If Americans think not addressing a problem a big problem at hand and just putting it on a back burner will make things better you are wrong it will only make things worse. Your hypocritical for that statement but not attacking you. Just debating with you on how insensitive your "opinion" is. Ohh and also calling you out on the bullshit.
Julian Hewlett I’m not going to read all of that but if you have your opinion, great, you have a right to it. If you aren’t attacking me, great, that comment was not directed towards you. Bye bye.

Julian Hewlett also don’t tell me what I think. I do not think someone’s opinion is attacking me. I’m talking about people who throw personal appearance and so forth into the picture when someone does not agree with them. So I think what you are saying is bullshit. Agree to disagree I guess.
What's so Controversial about this Show? I don't get it 🤔. Cardboard Cape yikes
You don't have to be proud of your ethnicity, you have to be proud about your accomplishments and not somethig that you can't choose
Cardboard Cape wtf man
Being proud of a race or ethnicity sets oneself apart from others, no matter what race or ethnicity it is.

It's satirical and anti-SJW. The title is misleading as it's really only the name of the radio podcast within the series and doesn't mean what it would seem to mean on the surface. The show is actually about faults within the black community with racism against whites being one of the issues, hence the title of the radio show.

Glorious chaos, humanity is tearing each other apart and I am loving every minute of it.

Apparently that's just fine, but a show called "Dear black people" would never see the light of day. That's the double standard I'm pointing out.
@@feeshunter1508 don’t watch the boondocks it’ll blow ur mind
This is why our country is divided. Because people think that making shows like this is a good idea. Please nobody attack me for having an opinion.
Bye bye.
Julian Hewlett we can address the problem. Just not through a sarcastic tv show that they knew damn well was going to only cause controversy, like you coming at me right now. Please respect I didn’t want to have to explain my opinion to random ass people like yourself.
Julian Hewlett also don’t tell me what I think. I do not think someone’s opinion is attacking me. I’m talking about people who throw personal appearance and so forth into the picture when someone does not agree with them. So I think what you are saying is bullshit. Agree to disagree I guess.
Maybe it was a good idea to make this show, I guess it depends on what they were trying to accomplish.
What's so Controversial about this Show? I don't get it 🤔. I'm white yet it seems fine, They made a Good Movie talking about issues facing America Today, also it talks both sides so Not like it's a Racist One Sided Argument. They touch on Multiple Subjects about Race, plus it's a College Campus, They are supposed to Question the Norm to what you have been taught Growing Up Now that they are in a Multi Ethnic Community. Also it presents it in a Fun light Let's Laugh about it cause in the end it's All Trivial BS Anyway. It's getting a like from me and I look forward to watching it, Try not to be so Butthurt Society about every little thing. The Fact that we are having Civilized Race Talks means that All Races want to Address It, So to me this is Progress when Black People as well as White People can look at their Upbringing and point out Negative Things to say wasn't Right and to each other to become One People. That being said, Shows like this are Nessasary in the Long Road Ahead. #PROGRESSCULTURE

Yeah. Not. I'll watch this when the MOWO's arrive. What? We've got the MOBO's & a film called 'dear white people '. So when the 'music of white origin' awards & the film 'dear black people ' arrive, I might give this a look in...

OP and everyone who responded to him: this show makes fun of every one of you and calls all three of you awful people. You're all idiots and none of you are supported by the show. How much of a douchebag you are is not something that's determined by the color of your skin.
Remember when us liberals used to preach radical love and acceptance and seeing across your difference to come together and see eye to eye?? What is this horse shit?
I got to admit after only reading the title of the show I was a little turned off from watching it but after watching the trailer I actually kind of wanna watch it now. It doesn’t seem too bad

A show well worth watching. I wonder how many people criticizing it have even watched it...and no I don't mean half of the first episode, or the trailer.
nah to quote "black people cant be racist" they said in the show itself how racist is this statement? now imagine saying "white people cant be racist" people will literally send death threats but idoits praise this dumb show for being basically racists and isolating whites and blacks away from each other, exactly what it does is focus on are race and not personalities.
the trailer is so hilariously bad i cant imagine how this dialogue alone doesnt ruin the experience

It's a show based on a movie, and you're too quick to make assumptions based on a title and a shitty trailer. The show actually makes the same point you're trying to make. The main character is a radical activist who runs an anti-white smear podcast called "Dear White People," and over the course of the show she is constantly painted as in the wrong and slowly learns how to be a more decent person. Also, there's a lot of good comedy moments. Give it a chance.
why do some people get so butthurt over getting asked what they are? lmao chill tf out
The alternative is what white and Hispanic people get, they just assume you are English or Mexican and leave it at that.

Since when is it racist to ask a question or be curious? If you really get offended just by someone asking you what is your ethnicity or background then it just shows how much of a baby you are.

when its this racist i dont care to watch the rest of this garbage m8
@Careful Icarus go ahead and name-call, take the easy way out. Not my problem, just proof that you dont know me at all...
Bad equivalency. Spike Lee's movies always come from an often bitter accusatory narrative against whites. Yes, I watched "White Men Can't Jump". The plot was bad. The writing was bad. I could have written that script better. This series sounds both better written and better directed than anything Lee has done.
@@davestang5454 fair enough, but for the record,"White Men Can't Jump" wasn't a Spike Lee movie; it was written, and directed, by Ron Shelton.
@@bankbucket2616 It's not racist like the trailer and name make it look. It just discusses the topic of racism a LOT, and its characters are realistic... meaning a lot of them, black or white, are racist. You should give it a try (for more than one episode) before making such bold assumptions.
The name makes this look horible but it dosent seem horible?
I'm pretty sure this show is a joke and doesn't deserve the hate its getting. I think the creators are aware of all of the SJWs and facists liberals and are mocking them.
But if I'm wrong... then you are free to correct me.
@@Insanely_Mads The creator (of both the movie and show) and the lead actress went out of their way by saying black people CAN'T be racist.
@@liampatrick3110 are you stupid. This show is extremely layered and well-made. It shows how black people can be ignorant, complacent, racist, etc, too. It also shows the struggle of this tiny minority of black students at this very elite, white university. It deals with all these students coming to terms with their own ignorance, prejudices, etc. Everyone dismisses it just because of the provocative title. The irony is that the snowflakes getting mad are perfectly-represented in the characters that are ignorant and bigoted, both black and white.
I don’t believe anything on film. Everyone overseas thinks all Americans live in rich areas and drive nice cars wearing expensive cloths jewelry
How about this don't be racist and stop making these kind of shows , movies and people will stop hating each other
