    This is a great video. I haven't fished in 20 years and have taken it back up due to interest from my daughter. Plenty of other videos show this exact setup, but don't explain why / how it works or don't show the knots in detail. This video does it all.

    A fantastic tutorial for a newbie, Ryan. Perfect pace in your delivery too. I’m very happy to now understand why and when as compared to simply tying a rig. Appreciated mate.

    Everything sounds so obvious but I personally never thought about the physics behind the rigs falling through water, just how to make them. Precious information, Thanks!

    Great advice. I use this rig here in Canada for river fishing bottom feeder species. The big plus of this rig, in my opinion, is that if the rig gets snagged and the line breaks, the weight will fall off separately from the hook, and so it doesn't leave a weighted and baited line in the water. Also, if a fish does manage to break the leader the weight will fall off the other side and so the fish doesn't have to drag around a weighted assembly.

    Hey Moody, I've been losing really good Jewies up here in Darwin time and time again on this rig, could never figure out why, your explanation just solved all of it. Thanks heaps.

      Circle hooks work mad with a sliding sinker rig, try it with those, they hook themselves.

    Ryan thanks for this great info. I wanted to ask if the knot you tie the leader to hook/swivel - I think you called it a 'reverse locked blood knot' - works in light line as well as heavy? I have always used a conventional locked blood knot but really like the look of your version (but have never seen it before)? thanks Joe

    what about the running sinker where the weight is right next to the hook, i have seen versions like that, no tangles then

    • @RyanMoodyFishing
      @RyanMoodyFishing  3 роки тому +1

      I use that in heavy country as you can often bounce the sinker up and down to dislodge the hook.

    Thank you for the advice! but just one thing, any ways to prevent the hook or sinker from getting stuck by the rocky seabed?

    Thanks sir!! How about the retrieval speed on this rig? Do I keep slowly reel in and then stop?

  • @easemailboxes

    Are you using braid or fluorocarbon? Must be braid right if you are using blood knot?
    If I'm using fluorocarbon can i use a tornado knot or still use the blood knot?

    For deep water why not just have your sinker directly on top of your hook? Keeps everything together.

    Hellow Ryan . What's your opinion on running sinker straight to the hook in deep water ? Have used this method with good success in 50 odd metres using rod and reel .

    • @RyanMoodyFishing
      @RyanMoodyFishing  4 роки тому +2

      Mark Bitcon hi Mark. Yeah it works fine and is a rig I use when fishing heavy country as you can sometimes bounce the sinker up and down to dislodge a snagged hook.

    Hey mate. Would this rig or sinker straight down to swivel be better?

    @Ryan Moody. For deep paternoster has tension and not free running. Any other rigs for deep water? How can I use running rig for deep without tangling?

  • @diamondbacksilverstreak7497
    @diamondbacksilverstreak7497 5 років тому

    Hi Ryan, Question. In regards to tangles & casting at 45%, should you still do this if your planning on having 3 or 4 big live(mullet) rigs out together? Thanks

    • @RyanMoodyFishing
      @RyanMoodyFishing  5 років тому

      Diamondback Silverstreak yeah mate just rotate the rods so as you throw out to the side bring the next rod across.

    So the running sinker rig is OK for barra of the beach?

    • @RyanMoodyFishing
      @RyanMoodyFishing  2 роки тому +1

      I’d use a dropper as you only use running when there is run.

    • @dannywarren1549
      @dannywarren1549 2 роки тому

      @@RyanMoodyFishing so this territory rig of sitting the running sinker right to the hook isn't real good then ?

    • @RyanMoodyFishing
      @RyanMoodyFishing  2 роки тому

      @@dannywarren1549 it’s better suited in a boat when you have run. Keeps the bait moving away from you. On a beach where there is no tide and possible waves blowing back toward you it can tangle.

    • @RyanMoodyFishing
      @RyanMoodyFishing  2 роки тому

      @@dannywarren1549 we are mostly talking live bait.
