Someone might have suggested this already but if you forget your rug, instead of rope which, hey, whoever has rope? - use your car mats. They're carpeted AND rubber backed. Great vids!
Yeah, car mats save my gig once. I even don't know for that option, but the van driver suggested me to use it after I was shocked cuz forgot my drum rug.
If you take off your floor tom legs after every gig. I usually just turn my floor upside down and loosen the wing bolts. Then I lower, and turn the legs into the sides of the floor tom. Tighten the legs back and there you have it.
Agreed! I liked the drumsticks for missing floor tom legs too...I hadn't thought of that. I have never forgotten my legs, but now I know what to do if it ever happens. I just knew he was going to use a rope for that sliding bass drum, and for the missing cymbal felt...I have done the exact same things myself. :-)
Hadn't thought about using a rope before! I usually don't lug around rope, but I guess I could figure out something. Also the X-hat was actually quite usable, saves a pretty penny if you have that kind of clamp. I've been using the snare tuning trick for a long time now. I think Elvis Prestleys drummer used that, even so that he stripped off the lugs beside snare beds.
ok.. to be honest I knew all the tricks except the one with the floor tom legs.. And I have to admit that it saved my ass yesterday in a video shooting where I was supposed to take so many cymbal stands and of course.."I FORGOT THE LEGS!!" Instatly I remembered this trick and I thanked God that it saved my whole day!! THANKS MAN!
I always leave the legs on my toms, just put them in upside down (so the legs bent ends are near the beater end) and turn them flush to the shell. I dunno why no-one has ever thought to make tom legs with a curve in them to match the shell circumference.
U.D. Drumr Easy fix by a cheap piece of carpet a 2x4. Rap the 2x4 in the carpet a few times screw down you have made a bass drum carpet. The rope will get in the way especially if you play double bass or use your feet for other things besides just the hi hat or 1 bass
I have had the chain break free from the foot plate of my hi-hat pedal in the middle of a gig before. I always keep a fishing tackle box in my truck with a bunch of small spare hardware pieces and parts (never throw anything away, you never know when you will need it). So, I happened to have a couple of nails in my tackle box. I pushed a nail through the hi-hat foot plate bolt-hole, all the way to the nail head, then I took my multi-tool pliers (every single gigging drummer needs to keep a multi-tool in his/her stick bag or tackle box --> very handy), I bent the nail into sort of an "S" shape, stuck the pointed end of the nail over the first link rod of the hi-hat chain, bent the end of the nail a little bit more to make sure that it wouldn't fall out of the chain, and VOILA!! It took all of 2 minutes to fix (less time than it took for the bass player to take a whizz), and it worked like a charm! Keep that in the back of your mind for later.
How do you know how long it takes a bass player to take a wizz? Serious question! I would hazard a guess you would need to watch them for when they are smiling for no apparent reason, and just time that. Then about 10 minutes later they will get sad because their pants are now getting cold. 😝
If you put a compression spring in between your cymbals, to push them apart, you can adjust the amount of sizzle that you get from your hats by the amount of pressure that you apply when you lock the wingnut. Works even better, when you built it from scratch from a threaded rod instead of the spare beater...
I’ve done ALL of these at one point or another in my “career“ except for the beater/Xhat so that’s my favourite and I’m going to do it as soon as I get the chance, thanks👍!
Love the part for what to do with out a drum rug. A suggestion on that...Instead of using a slipknot or any hard not that can get stuck , tie a bowline. Never slips or jams , would take a hurricane to break it , and easy as hell to get undone. Awesome video.
I just watched this and said this dude is brilliant. Lol love you bro! The snare buzz and the X hat were my favorite ones! Especially the snare buzz one!
You can also just turn on the bottom part of the bass drum legs to retract the 'pins' and have the rubber part as the bottom, that way it won't slide as well on non-carpet ground.
Broo thank you soo much! I'v been trying to find a way to remove the snare buzz, and for some reason I didn't think about loosening the rods 🤦 You have been granted a like and a sub good sir
Bro, your ideas are the most simplest ideas ever! so simple only a diabolical genius could think of them lol. thank you so much brotha for making these vids, I'm lmbo as to how in the world I haven't nor would've ever thought of like 98% of these ideas lol... thanks again brotha. stay blessed and keep the vids coming!!!
4:25 this is our normal set up on our church, I dont even know that rugs/carpet are used for setting up drums during my younger days so we always use this trick
Hey David! I love your channel and the fact it has something different to offer from other drumming ones. You're very creative and I think that's awesome. I've picked up a lot tips from your videos! Keep up the good shit, dude!
Ive actually used the rope on the bass drum trick before. I was playing on top of a metal flat bed trailer and an old drummer show'd it to me. Works really really well.
I can't remember ever laughing at any youtube moments but that bass drum gig hit home and cracked my ass up.. Laughed for a full 10 seconds. I know what your thinking but thats a long time for me....
Ok, I am a "new drummer," (in quotes because I'm actually NOT a drummer, but I'm trying to learn to play a 2 piece practice kit with a hat and ride), so pardon for having never heard of an "xhat" but your idea actually looks like it may work for a temporary cymbal stand too, just using a mic stand and a clamp for the beater, and put a felt over that. I'm gonna eventually find a cheap used cymbal stand (I have a crash cymbal, but I only have one stand and so it's being used for my ride) but for now, I think it'll work. Now about that ketchup . . . . . . . . it's the acid from the tomatoes that is dissolving the grime, but you then have a bit of goop to clean off. However, if you start with a wet paper towel and dampen the cymbal, then dust the whole thing with baking soda and pour vinegar on it, most of that shit will wipe away with a microfiber cloth. That's MY hack. I've only been PLAYING drums for about 3 months, but I have been running a small studio for for a lot longer. I've had plenty of cymbals to clean.... Thanks for the video. I intend to try damn near every one of these.
Damn I hate when the bass drum tries to run away from me .... I thought it was because I had a cheap set.... So glad to see I was not the only one .... Love the McGyver hack! ( and the funny part where it’s across the room 🤪)
HaH! I'm 73 years old and I beat you with this idea by 57 years. I played in a 4 and sometimes 5 piece Rhythm and Blues group, James Brown, Sam and Dave , The Isley Brothers , Wilson Pickett, etc., and with of course Beatles songs and invariably the floors were linoleum, wood or concrete and never covered with rugs. So I used a rope just like this and this works splendidly!
I liked that one with sticks in the FT lugs! But that will work, of course, if you have enough sticks. Pitch-paired) Good idea with clamp for the X-hat.
+schramschram could be that you're hitting it on too much of an angle. Try raising your hand slightly higher and see if it makes a difference. I don't know how you play, but that worked for me.
@rdavidr Jojo Mayer also mentions a hack for the bass drum sliding issue. Just use two pieces of carpet big enough for you to put under your hi hat stand and bass drum pedal. These could be fit inside your hardware or cymbal case. Thin doormats also work equally well for that purpose.
4:22 one of the solution that i did when a band equipment supplier failed to bring a floor rug or a rubber floor matts. found some plastic ropes and tied to the kick drum and around to my drummer's seat.
I got 2 floor tom legs that are waist high. I put a cowbell on one and a stationary highhat (with rivets) on the other. You don't have to cross your arms so much.
Did you ever do a video on stick protection on a snaredrum hoop with a piece of high pressure garden hose? Wouldn't recommend it for live shows (less crack on the rimshots), but sticks last way longer during practice sessions. Furthermore, love your video's! Cheers!
Someone might have suggested this already but if you forget your rug, instead of rope which, hey, whoever has rope? - use your car mats. They're carpeted AND rubber backed. Great vids!
Cool idea!
On tours, we would often use ratchet straps from our truck.
Yeah, car mats save my gig once. I even don't know for that option, but the van driver suggested me to use it after I was shocked cuz forgot my drum rug.
HOW DO YOU FORGET FLOOR TOM LEGS XD
You'd be suprised
When your band is traveling and you get caught up in shit and forget things.
If you take off your floor tom legs after every gig. I usually just turn my floor upside down and loosen the wing bolts. Then I lower, and turn the legs into the sides of the floor tom. Tighten the legs back and there you have it.
I just ended up converting my floor toms into suspended toms so I don’t worry about the legs
You in a rush
I'd love to hear what the 'triggered' kick sounds like

The xhat one was genius!
Agreed!

Absolutely agree! Outstanding Idea! your channel is AMAZING dude, you're a genius. Best regards from Argentina.
Holy crap that bass drum part was funny 😂
that shit was epic!!!!
I actually laughed hard. That's officially the best drummers meme.
i don't even play drums i just love your videos
thats sick
XpertNinja1324 same, I'm the guitarist in my band and I watch drum videos to give my drummer tips.
Update I recently got a drum set
XpertNinja1324 sick bro!!!
XpertNinja1324 do u play another instrument? If so what do u play and are u really going to start playing the drums?
you should work for a drum company and invent new products! you are very creative
John Good should hire this guy!
In fact, John Good gotta hire a killer for this guy.
For DW (Drum Workshop)

Lmao the bass drum sliding away happens to me all the time
Sounds like you need to invest in a non-slip drum rug... (And don't forget it or you'll be back on the rope!)
Scratched my damn floors🙄
U.D. Drumr Easy fix by a cheap piece of carpet a 2x4. Rap the 2x4 in the carpet a few times screw down you have made a bass drum carpet. The rope will get in the way especially if you play double bass or use your feet for other things besides just the hi hat or 1 bass
Me too...... I would put 2 nails in the stage floor (won’t work on concrete though).... I like when he put it all the way across the room 😆
For me it’s the hh I have rug now
I have had the chain break free from the foot plate of my hi-hat pedal in the middle of a gig before. Or you could just use a bungee cord.
How do you know how long it takes a bass player to take a wizz? Serious question!
I would hazard a guess you would need to watch them for when they are smiling for no apparent reason, and just time that. Then about 10 minutes later they will get sad because their pants are now getting cold. 😝
Love this dude!
He is so creative and he knows the struggles of being a percussionist, especially those in school bands/groups😂
Drum Beats Online I love your videos I have been subbed and notificationed for a while now
love you gabe!
Nou
Love this dude
Love this, dude
Love, this dude
That X hat idea was really smart, I would have never thought of that
If you put a compression spring in between your cymbals, to push them apart, you can adjust the amount of sizzle that you get from your hats by the amount of pressure that you apply when you lock the wingnut.
Works even better, when you built it from scratch from a threaded rod instead of the spare beater...
"forget a felt? rip another one in half, BOOM! now you have two felts!"
this is the most simplest yet genius shit ever.
I’ve done ALL of these at one point or another in my “career“ except for the beater/Xhat so that’s my favourite and I’m going to do it as soon as I get the chance, thanks👍!
The bass rope trick for the bass-drum creep is brilliant. I’ve used that at gigs a few times when I forgot a rug.
If you have played alot of gigs you know the last one is great. Smart man. Loving this channel.
3 seconds later....
5.7 seconds later...
11 nanoseconds later....
Lmao!
For sure going to try that rope trick on my hi-hat stand... that thing always gets away from me.
Dude, I see you all over UA-cam commenting on drum videos
Andrew Kropp me too
Luke Datema same
love the rope tying the bass to the stool idea. i use 2'x4' sheet of plywood with ridges screwed around my pedals to keep them from moving.
Love the part for what to do with out a drum rug. A suggestion on that...Instead of using a slipknot or any hard not that can get stuck , tie a bowline. Never slips or jams , would take a hurricane to break it , and easy as hell to get undone. Awesome video.
Thank you for that bass drum hack! I'll definitely use that!
I just watched this and said this dude is brilliant. Lol love you bro! The snare buzz and the X hat were my favorite ones! Especially the snare buzz one!
Thanks bro!
I'm going to be a hundred percent honest. That rope trick that he did I have never thought of that in my life and it makes so much sense.
I've seen this video numerous times, but every time it's in my recommended, I'll still watch
Found this on what I just realized is it's one year anniversary. Great stuff. Thank you.
The runaway bass drum is a definite fave.
Until you go so hard you start pulling yourself across the stage! 😂
that aux hats using beater was awesome!
Dude that aux hat mount is genious! I never would've thought to use a bass beater
Both hilarious and incredibly savvy hacks. Your channel rules bro! I always look forward to when you release new videos.
You can also just turn on the bottom part of the bass drum legs to retract the 'pins' and have the rubber part as the bottom, that way it won't slide as well on non-carpet ground.
eliminating the snare buzz and keeping your kick from sliding were very useful to me so thank you very much!!!! keep on drumming ;)
Be sure to check out part 1!

I gave you a shout out in my last vid
rdavidr Hi man ! Can I make a stack cymbal out of my cheap cymbals ?
Samuel Moses
No, that's against the law.
The Hi-Hat stand from the beater is just the best! :D
Broo thank you soo much!
I'v been trying to find a way to remove the snare buzz, and for some reason I didn't think about loosening the rods 🤦
You have been granted a like and a sub good sir
Leonel it makes the snare sound crappier tho
@@jordanbailey3289 yeah i found that out, i instead just bought some remo muffle rings and it kinda helps
I don't even drum and I love these videos dude. I like your editing style.
Definitely DO NOT clean your cymbals with ketchup, it ruins the finish.
I wondered about that
ᴉᴉɾsᴉǝꓤ ɐuɐʞO hmm, you do have a point, though.
it also makes them sticky
Isnt it just the vinegar inside thats doing the “cleaning?”
Toothpaste works on jewelry..... so imagine that would likely work here also
X-Hat was just brilliant. Also, you made me remember we had to do the antii-sliding bass drum thing at school
The Bass Drum moving happens all the time for me ahah, loved this video man!

2:26 My favorite was the extra hi hats...!!! Just awesome...!!!
Frickin rad dude thanks again
That bass drum hack is life saver at gigs, Thanks!

Dude, you saved my ass with the bottle cap-hack on my last gig - Big thanks for that and keep up the great work!
The x hats from a bass drum beater is brilliant man!!!
He is the crazy russian hacker of drum hacks. Fantastic! Loved every single one of them
The snare buzz is great, I've never tried it out thinking the skin would break 'cause of the different tension, ty buddy
sweet bass drum hack at the end. Never would have thought of that!
Damn I hate when the bass drum tries to run away from me .... I thought it was because I had a cheap set.... So glad to see I was not the only one .... Love the McGyver hack! ( and the funny part where it’s across the room 🤪)
The second hack with the felt helped me.
The x-hat trick is my favorite on here by far! X-hat rigs are quite expensive and I have a few bass beaters lying around...
HOLY SHIT I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET RID OF SNARE BUZZ LIKE, FOREVER!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
I love these 'hack' videos as I can do it myself and there just really entertaining
Great material as always. Love the x hat idear!
3:50 Who hasn't gone through that lol. Used to carry rope with me for those rainy days and it works well enough to get through the gig.
*fancy knots* love your sense of humor david
Love that surf green kick drum!
Finally a hack that actually helped me!!!!!! My bassdrum kept slipping even if it had the block. Thank you very much dude
Thanks for the moon gel tip at 1:12. I bought Halloween gel clings last week at 90% off!
never even thought of using the string... brilliant.
My fav was the x-hat mount. Gonna have to use that one!
The snare buzz thing was a lifesaver
the rope trick is absolute gold. what a life saver
The Awperator so true!! Need to be remembered
I'm a guitar player but I still love watching your videos! lol I have no idea why
Quik Nature same
The xhats idea makes me want to do that immediately!
i dont have a rug i just unscrew the rubber feet halfway so the rubber is on the floor instead of the metal and it doesnt slide
You are genius! that last tip for rigging your bass drum will save me so much embarrassment in the future.
I liked that one with sticks in the FT lugs! But that will work, of course, if you have enough sticks. Pitch-paired) Good idea with clamp for the X-hat.
My fave was the gel. For muffling buzzing snares, use a peel-n-stick sanitary napkin across them. Or tape up a folded paper towel.
Best one is the sliding bass drum hack! luvit!
That BD beater X Hat trick is genius!
But how do you keep your hi hat from sliding around?
thats downward pressure you apply on the hihat, so it shouldnt be an issue
rdavidr my hi hat always tends to slide around due to my thin rug. Maybe i have bad technique.
+schramschram could be that you're hitting it on too much of an angle. Try raising your hand slightly higher and see if it makes a difference. I don't know how you play, but that worked for me.
ben and nate its not when I hit it with sticks its when i stomp on it on 2 & 4 for jazz rhythms.
schramschram Oh, okay. Sorry.
Another great list! I've used the stick holder hack for a long time.
what type of kick drum beater is that at 2:23
“Take another felt, rip it in half. Now you have 2 felts”
Lol what the fuck 😂
@rdavidr Jojo Mayer also mentions a hack for the bass drum sliding issue. Just use two pieces of carpet big enough for you to put under your hi hat stand and bass drum pedal. These could be fit inside your hardware or cymbal case. Thin doormats also work equally well for that purpose.
That x-hat using a beater idea is absolute genius...
I got a tip to quiet down a snare drum for practicing. Put a 14 inch cymbal upside down under the drum. It makes quite a difference.
Nice video man that part with the kick sliding made me laugh so hard! Keep up the greatVids
4:22 one of the solution that i did when a band equipment supplier failed to bring a floor rug or a rubber floor matts. found some plastic ropes and tied to the kick drum and around to my drummer's seat.
Jonathan Miguel Mabini hey that’s really smart!
Thanks so much bro; my favorite was the snare buzz hack, it really works!
Here's a tip for blisters. A Dr. Scholl's corn pad and a band aid works wonders! Keep em in your bag just in case.
Yes, the rope helped me a few times! You showed the problem very precisely))
You my man, are funny... and ingenious. Your hack vids helped me out A LOT! So you get another subscriber.
Currently using the xhat one in my set up. Thanks for idea m8!
liked the kick beater and splashes combination. you are very creative. good job as always.
Feelin it!
EDIT: The bass drum attached to the throne with Rope is brilliant!
I read about the cotton trick on a old internet drum article a decade ago lol nice to see it shared in a video
Hey great video! I'm planning on using your ketchup hack, Is there a certain time I should let it sit for?
He has other videos on it, it should probably included in them.
30-to an hour should do it. it really only works well on b20 cymbals though
thanks :)
the snare buzz hack😂😂 thanks dude tried everything👌🙏
the cord hack one is my fav' of all times!
thanx!
Cheers!
