I recently made shoestring zipper pulls for my hardware bag. It is a nice one with wheels. But zipping that zipper over a packed bag with wingscrews and stand feet sticking out and they just broke. BTW why do people at bars have to ask you if it's a "bodybag"? Really? Yah bro a dead body is in there! lol..
+Patrick Thomas as a drummer, I'm just curious why you're on this channel if you don't play and have no interest in playing? I've seen a few comments on David's videos saying similar things. No offense of course, I think it's great. Just wondering :)
I don't have a favorite but I don't have a less favorite. all I know is you rdavidr are a drum genius. you come up with the best ideas for drums and drumming I have ever seen. you have saved me money by using some of your ideas and the best part is they work.
I love that I watched this video from beginning to end with rapt attention and I am not a drummer, I have never used sugru, and never seen this channel. A soothing voice and informative narration hypnotized me 0_0 Loved it!
First of all... Holy damn your technique is amazing! That test on the table frikkin' blew me away haha! But to the point. I'm curious about your bass drum pedal... It looks like a sort of frankenstein pedal, made with parts from different companies. Could you tell me (or make a video) about it, the base of it, what changes you made etc? Really love it and I'm curious! Keep up the awesome work!
I love the whole practice stick idea! I play tenors for my highschool band and tenor practice pads are expensive, so this is a really cheap way to be quiet and still be able to practice
1 Tip for Sugru is to store it in the Freezer, it has a shelf life and storing it in the freezer extends it massively. I still a couple boxes of Sugru in my freezer from when I bought like 5 boxes 6 Years ago and believe it or not it still works just as well as it did when I bought it. I actually just tried the "practice tips" for the sticks on my Rockband Drum Kit to stop the loud crack sound when playing and it works great. Can't believe I never thought of that before. 👍👍
I don't play drums but this is one of my favorite channels for the music and the building you do and my favorite hack was the one about the drum keys that was a smart idea .keep it up your loyal fan jake
yeah, i love just the little innovative things. you could do what you did for the hi hat key stand, but bigger on your kick drum to hold sticks steady, or even on the side of your floor tom at some weird angle would be very handy. The idea of cymbal sleeves is good, but it might take a lot of damage, so i reckon it would make better felts, which you could make bigger depending on how dampening you want them to be. separators for cymbal stacks, just to keep contact points healthy. it might roll out thin to make a nice kick beater pad/ dampener. You could easily fashion or attach cable holders/ hooks for multicores to keep them nice and tidy. Depending on the reverb coefficient, it might be a healthy alternative to neoprene for mic stand dampening for the feet, if not at least an easy replacement mic stand feet that always go bloody missing! if you wanna delve deeper into this kind of brain fart let me know, i'll happily indulge you via email!
Hey, these ones are just great. Could you make cymbal sleeves\felts out of Sugru? There is some product like this, that acts like a sleeve and a felt as one - you just put it through a mounting hole of a cymbal and put the thing on a bare stand with just a washer. Also - dampeners for drums/cowbell? Some kind of tune lock (if it's strong enough)? Tips for floor tom legs? Maybe, even crazy shaped wingnuts for cymbal stands? Also - grats on the new hats!
I did the drum key one and it is great, also did it for my drum sticks on this CD holder hanging on my wall next to my drum set and I love it it's very handy to have my sticks there
“This video was quite long” oh how things have changed hahahahahaha. I remember I watched this 7 years ago in high school and I was amazed. It’s not uncommon for me to watch 40+ minute videos now lol
+rdavidr I like the drum key applications. Also, the old scojos are called the MS6 Chop-Out. I love those for chop sessions. Well, I love Vic Firth, period xD
The only place I've ever kept my drum keys is on the tension screw of either the snare or floor tom. Never had 'em bounce off, ever. I have a small leather bag that I carry extra's in(foot pedal springs, white grease, multi tool, cymbal stand wing nut screws, drum keys, et al) that never leaves the trap case except when I set up for the job. Your vids seem a little over the top for me, but interesting concepts at least.
I actually bought some black Sugru to use on an old throne repair job. It's an old Ludwig portathrone and the rubber tips on the legs are really torn up, so Here's hoping I can fix them with Sugru!
This stuff might work for bass drum claws. I noticed yours are padded against the hoop. My brand-spankin" new Catalina Club is not. I've been looking for something to use. I think I just found it! Yay!
i took chad smiths tip to put velcro around the key and then stick the other park to the bass drum, so youll never lose the key again, but the magnet idea might be better
I love your videos , and your Humor , To hold my drum keys and sweat rags and other junk, I use a cheap tag sale fanny pack. I put it around the floor tom. Works pretty well for me . The only problem is when I go hiking, now I have to carry the drum with me !
I just came up with an idea. Put Sugru on the plastic side of your bass drum beater. I bet it will provide a nice attack and won't damage the head like plastic does.
maybe you could use it as the stuff that prevents the cymbal from keyholing on the stand. i dont know what's it's name. i loved the magneti drumkey idea btw.
Please make a sugru bass beater!
+Will O'Farrell I like this idea!
Amazing
Ya that would be really cool
DO IT!
Will O'Farrell
yes
Every cymbal bag in the history of cymbal bags has a broken zipper. #truth. Great vid!
+Make Something Thanks dude, but right?! Its happened to every cymbal bagI've owned.
rdavidr are the tips removable?
I recently made shoestring zipper pulls for my hardware bag. It is a nice one with wheels. But zipping that zipper over a packed bag with wingscrews and stand feet sticking out and they just broke. BTW why do people at bars have to ask you if it's a "bodybag"? Really? Yah bro a dead body is in there! lol..
Make Something what up David! Funny seeing one of my favorite makers here!
Make Something lol
Maybe a sugru-based practice pad could be interesting...
Galo Asecas yeah
That would need a lot of sugru
lol how much sugru would it take to make even a small one.
I would say that it would take like 100 packs
Neat idea tbh.
I'm digging the snare chops!!!
Lmfaoooooo at the drum key getting sucked into the abyss
The Eternal Abyss!!!😮😮
That's where most of mine are.
If you keep it on a piece of paper or the kitchen manual it will stay there. I just fixed life's biggest issue
It’s..... gone...
I.... I don’t know what to say.
I dont even plan on being a drummer, but the order and dedication this guy haves is just inspiring.
+Patrick Thomas as a drummer, I'm just curious why you're on this channel if you don't play and have no interest in playing? I've seen a few comments on David's videos saying similar things. No offense of course, I think it's great. Just wondering :)
+Ankylophobia Read my comment twice answer is there
I don't have a favorite but I don't have a less favorite. all I know is you rdavidr are a drum genius. you come up with the best ideas for drums and drumming I have ever seen. you have saved me money by using some of your ideas and the best part is they work.
Your combo of drumming and crafting content is so incredibly satisfying to watch. And those beats, too!
what about a sugru bass beater?
Which was your favorite? Also, how would you use this around your kit?
Could this be used as a semi permanent drum mute/dampening device
my favorite was waking up and watching a 9 minute drum hack video, perfect way to start the day.
+Louis Turner Itd probably work, but it would be a one time thing. Once you peel it off it probably wouldnt stick to the head again.
+rdavidr thanks I'll have to check it out
Would they fix sticks?
I'm actually a trumpet player and have no idea why I watched this, great vid though :)
HydraTek use sugru for decoration (put some on the knobs on the valves
I love that I watched this video from beginning to end with rapt attention and I am not a drummer, I have never used sugru, and never seen this channel. A soothing voice and informative narration hypnotized me 0_0 Loved it!
I get so much joy looking at your videos
I really liked the practice stick hack. That seems very useful.
5:54 i literally thought he was gonna make mallets
Lmao same
Yes
First of all... Holy damn your technique is amazing! That test on the table frikkin' blew me away haha!
But to the point. I'm curious about your bass drum pedal... It looks like a sort of frankenstein pedal, made with parts from different companies. Could you tell me (or make a video) about it, the base of it, what changes you made etc? Really love it and I'm curious!
Keep up the awesome work!
Its a pearl pedal with an iron cobra plate
Those were some great ideas! Drum key + magnet was my favorite. Thanks :)
+FastEasySmartTOOL Thanks man! do you play drums? love your channel!
+rdavidr - Thank you! Yea, I do play drums. I love your channel too! We should talk... maybe even make a video together some day?
+FastEasySmartTOOL yeah! now he can lose the key anywhere not just the floor! funny stuff
I love the whole practice stick idea! I play tenors for my highschool band and tenor practice pads are expensive, so this is a really cheap way to be quiet and still be able to practice
i really liked how you formed the sugru to fix the Drum key on the hi hat stand! well done
1 Tip for Sugru is to store it in the Freezer, it has a shelf life and storing it in the freezer extends it massively. Dude I just found your channel and I watched like 15 videos in a row this is great stuff, man. Keep it up.
New hats??
+Drum Beats Online Yep, I actually returned those and got different ones.
+Drum Beats Online oh wow, I just realized the ones I kept are the ones at the end of the video lol
Haha what are those? 15" Traditionals?
+Drum Beats Online 14" mediums
Sugru! So awesome! My favorite has to be the key holder on the hihat stand. I'm always looking for my tuning key.
What are you playing when you tested the practice tips?? That sounds cool and I'd like to learn it
I'd also like to know what rudiments you played.
Same!
I think it’s a paradiddlediddle followed by a mix of flam taps and flam tap taps
My favorite was the key holder on the hi-hat stand, but I wonder how well the shape holds up after the stand being in a hardware
bag.
Used it years ago to repair a cymbal stand, haven't moved since yet! Sugru is awsome!
the bass ring one really helped. thank you
"I hate losing my drum key, so now I can stick it to my shelf!" He says as he sticks his key next to the shelf that has a metric ton of drum keys
I don't play drums but this is one of my favorite channels for the music and the building you do and my favorite hack was the one about the drum keys that was a smart idea .keep it up your loyal fan jake
What is that lick at 7:24

Honestly was so excited when he started talking about scojo and dci 😂
I really enjoyed the bass drum hoop saver hack, as well as the magnetic drum key. totally going to do that one!

Love the magnet on the key trick! I'm gonna do that.
You could wrap sugru around your cymbal arms where cymbal sleeves usually go!
Ha Scottie Johnson's! Haven't seen those in years. Didn't realize you had a marching background. Nice clean rudiments in the test.
Dude that stuff is pure magic! Really cool ideas too! Probs gonna use it as a drum key holder sometime! 🥁👌
I think my favorite was the bass drum hoop saver :P
I felt a bass drum beater and/or stick grip coming on. I liked the practice tips.
I did the drum key one and it is great, also did it for my drum sticks on this CD holder hanging on my wall next to my drum set and I love it it's very handy to have my sticks there
I actually used Sugru on one of my sticks, where the nylon tip kept popping off as I played. It worked surprisingly well.
i loved the idea of using them to make practice sticks
Really dug the practice sticks. Beats the hell out of carrying a drum pad.
my FAV was the drum stick hack and I would use it for organization
Good job on 16k subs!
The stick tips hack is right on dude! Totally worked!
loved the sugru practice sticks
“This video was quite long” oh how things have changed hahahahahaha. I remember I watched this 7 years ago in high school and I was amazed. It’s not uncommon for me to watch 40+ minute videos now lol
Rad video! Please do a video on the hack options of taking a single rack tom off the kick drum and mounting else where.
I just realised something. If you shaved your head you would legit be the binging with babish of drumming
I never saw that
Yes!
How bout as felts for your cymbals?
+ed salisch this!
Use it on cymbal sleeves as a perniment cymbal felt
+rdavidr I like the drum key applications. Also, the old scojos are called the MS6 Chop-Out. I love those for chop sessions. Well, I love Vic Firth, period xD
The drum sticks are sick! I'm going to try it on my sticks
Is the background song at 5:30 also the song that Adam Neely uses for his q+a intro (superfast instagram q and a)?
I thought you were going to make like Zildjian Dip Sticks type drum sticks with the sugru, but the practice sticks are a good idea too haha
I actually like the practice stick hack can really use it when I need to warm up fit shows
You should make a video about your music career or whatever. Like when you started playing and if you marched, etc.
i would love to see an episode where you make a bassdrum beater out of it!
Really like the drum key locator and hoop rash cure. Very creative. Have any hacks for soft drum cases?
My favorite hack was the last one👌Great job!!!!🙂
The only place I've ever kept my drum keys is on the tension screw of either the snare or floor tom. Never had 'em bounce off, ever. I have a small leather bag that I carry extra's in(foot pedal springs, white grease, multi tool, cymbal stand wing nut screws, drum keys, et al) that never leaves the trap case except when I set up for the job. Your vids seem a little over the top for me, but interesting concepts at least.
Gibraltar makes a drum key holder that clips onto your hi hat stand, I have been using the same key for a long time!
I actually bought some black Sugru to use on an old throne repair job. It's an old Ludwig portathrone and the rubber tips on the legs are really torn up, so Here's hoping I can fix them with Sugru!
+Nolan Pettersen Nice, should work out perfectly!
Come on, I know you love rdavidr so much you watch him while you poop
love those diy practice sticks!
How about using the sugru for a cymbal mute?for example, putting it on the edge.
if you ever heard of drum rack or drum gum you could use it to control the overtone on tour Tom's and snare
what was that chop? holly crap it was good!!
+Jules Marrison Some paradiddle diddles and some flams
This stuff might work for bass drum claws. I noticed yours are padded against the hoop. My brand-spankin" new Catalina Club is not. I've been looking for something to use. I think I just found it! Yay!
Nice routine with the practice sticks
i took chad smiths tip to put velcro around the key and then stick the other park to the bass drum, so youll never lose the key again, but the magnet idea might be better
The practice tips were my favorite!!
7:10 that looks like vic firth ms6 that i use for my snare (marching snare)
I love your videos , and your Humor , To hold my drum keys and sweat rags and other junk, I use a cheap tag sale fanny pack. I put it around the floor tom. Works pretty well for me . The only problem is when I go hiking, now I have to carry the drum with me !
Damn your technique is sick! nice video! subbed!
Subaru? Yea I heard of Subaru 😂😂😂
Gently rub Sugru with wet finger gives a Pro finish. Or use a piece of wet rough cloth or fine grill to structure the surface.
Nice video. Can you maybe make a video how YOU tune your drums because i like the sound of them ;)
You could wrap it around a cymbal stand for a DIY cymbal sleeve perhaps?
It would be awesome to see a video of you chopping out to some rudimental stuff.
Thanks for posting a vid on my B-day!
great vid, huge fan!!!! Keep up the great work
So can we get a snare / drum line video from you next!
For the drum keys and loose screws and such i have this old .30 caliber ammo can that i put sticks and keys under my floor tom.
My drum key came with a rubber band in the whole so I just hang on on my drum
yoooooo the drum key hacks...
mind blowing!
Zone
7:28 what's the name of the rudiment
Papa Ramen sounds like double strokes with a couple well placed flams
Papa Ramen I know right, im gonna learn it for marching season
Papa Ramen paradiddle diddles with flam accents/flam taps. that's what it seems like to me
paradiddle diddles followed by swiss army triplets followed by flam taps
sounds like there's a swiss army triplet in there somewhere
lets get this dude to 100K
the sugru stix were pretty dope
Sugru bass drum beater
I've tryed it: Works well and long lasting, but only on the contact surface, it's expensive!
Im a drummer so I know exactly the struggle and I use those hacks all the time especially the key one so thanks
I couldn't stop laughing at 2:26 XD Every drummer can relate to the key getting lost easily!! 😂
The first lick with the practice sticks reminds me of One
@rdavidr is there a video on how to make those wooden drum key holders? They look very cool!
I like your Casey Neistat-esque film style
Lmao, I put my key in the vent hole for my BD since its a HUGE hole and the key itself is pretty small.
