As it is one of my favourite games I'd like to add, The gradual rise to actual formidable knight is so satisfying because the game is willing to beat you down at the start. The progression isn't super smooth, but after a while of getting stats and actually working to train, you become an expert fighter capable of fighting multiple foes at once! Sidenote, It's one of the only games where grinding out fighting stats at captain bernard(?) feels immersive, because it makes complete sense that sparring with your instructor for several days actually improves your fighting skills. I will agree that doing this too much can make the game feel really weird in terms of how smooth the progression is, but it's one of my personal favourite ways to start the game, rush as fast as you can to Bernard, spar with him for several days straight (I understand this takes a bunch of patience, but I had time, ok) And then immediately get to enjoy some of the more fun parts of swordfighting in the game.

A very good example of open communication between a studio and their community is Digital Extremes. They have a short-form livestream of the Creative Director and CEO answering community questions and a long-firm livestream of different community managers and otherwise playing Warframe with the community and giving out raffle prizes. They also have a monthly (?) livestream where they go over whatever events are happening in the future.
Depends, they had their own share of the worst mods ever, to the point that lots of us old guard left the game over their toxic political bias and enforcement of the chat channels. The joke of being banned without ever typing in game came about due to how shitty their community mods where
42:00 About the post processing features like motion blur and so on. While yes they are included for because they want the game to look pretty, giving the internal team tools to make really good screen shots and such. They also tend to be part of the engine in general and are easily moved into projects, as unreal has these built in or they are easily slotted in as a package with minimal effort
Hearing them rattle off numbers and estimates for keeping people employed for a year during the Destiny discussion plus the part with Capcom's fiscal report just re-emphasize how absurd gacha money truly is. Hoyoverse's games collectively made around $150m+ in ONE MONTH on mobile alone. That may not be accurate numbers but it is probably not far off that they actually do make around a hundred million monthly. 🤯
I prefer light mode as an ADHD person. Dark mode muddles everything together and makes menus less distinct and clear at a glance, and for someone who can't always focus if I'm distracted and trying to menu through something that blends together it can lead to missclicks and small issues

Give the full 80% so you have the 100% when you need it. Love how you put it. That was pretty much the advice I gave a younger colleague not long ago! Basically, enjoy the moments that the workload is low to recover your energy for when the workload is too high. That way, when things get tough you're able to handle it.
in World of Warcraft one of the early dungeons there was an immortal frog. or nearly immortal one after you drop down the exit hole into some water. Hearing some of these coding tricks makes me wonder if that frog is related to some boss spells or other tricks and it wasn't suppose to be visible; but it was forgotten about because it was a low level Horde dungeon.
What we're seeing here is the difference between companies who got complacent and thought nothing would change, and companies that were forced to change cause they fell on hard times sooner.
This video has been a breath of fresh air, with all of the Twitch clips of mundane and redundant hocum on my UA-cam reels. Knowing that this type of content exists on UA-cam makes me feel better. PS: credit to Pirate Software for introducing me to this channel and these people.
I have dyslexia and can chip in on the light/dark mode thing. There are shades of grey that (luckily) most dark modes use where I'm able to read BETTER than light mode. But when dark mode was a new thing that wasn't common and most things that had a dark option opted for pure white text on pure black background. That stuff is HELL on my dyslexia, depending on the day I can't even make out a single letter. So very dark to medium grey background with white to very light grey text is perfect. but if the background is too dark I am going back to light mode. One annoying example is windows 10 settings. Which is annoying cause that's the place I have to go to change it back to light mode.

I don't use dark mode for my browsers. Something about the combination of contrast and brightness disparity makes it so I can read black text on white background faster and with more clarity than white text on black background. A brief googling on this suggests it might be due to my astigmatism.

The joke of being banned without ever typing in game came about due to how shitty their community mods where
Awesome guests, keep up with finding these guys who are well respected and willing to talk about inner workings of games and overall industry.
1:22:46 is the best surprize guest ever. Such a good dog.
This was an amzing show, thank you JP for making this happen!
42:00 About the post processing features like motion blur and so on. While yes they are included for because they want the game to look pretty, giving the internal team tools to make really good screen shots and such. They also tend to be part of the engine in general and are easily moved into projects, as unreal has these built in or they are easily slotted in as a package with minimal effort
what an insightful episode yet again. Rami x Thor is a great combo
I was so excited to see Rami and Thor together, and JP delivers within 2 weeks?!?!? Thank you JP!!
edit edit: I love the longer episodes
So great to have both Rami and Thor on! Awesome discussion.
Didn't expect the Thor/PirateSoftware and Rami collab so quickly, great stuff, thanks jp (and zeke)
you know, the last week i thought "man, this Thor guy would be amazing with Rami" and look at what happened! its like all my namedays came at once
I can't believe I miss this monumental episode live.
Fucking RIP.
Pringles guy mixed with Jigsaw 💀
Hearing them rattle off numbers and estimates for keeping people employed for a year during the Destiny discussion plus the part with Capcom's fiscal report just re-emphasize how absurd gacha money truly is. Hoyoverse's games collectively made around $150m+ in ONE MONTH on mobile alone. That may not be accurate numbers but it is probably not far off that they actually do make around a hundred million monthly. 🤯
They can afford to do omega sponsorships with their lowest rates being 6 figures so yeah go figure.
I prefer light mode as an ADHD person. Dark mode muddles everything together and makes menus less distinct and clear at a glance, and for someone who can't always focus if I'm distracted and trying to menu through something that blends together it can lead to missclicks and small issues
I have dyslexia. Never made connection to that but is for some reason i prefer light mode. And I would guess that just vecause Im used to read form paper so its more familiar less stress for my brain. Im glad thet we are not overlooked.
the guests were, of course, amazing and I hope to see them sooner again rather then later.
And big thanks to JP for doing this every week.
However the biggest of shoutouts to Zeke. He is such an amazing co-host and I hope everyone tells him that every chance they get. When he makes jokes it's well-timed and doesn't overstay it's welcome. If he derails a conversation he brings it back on topic. He asks question I as a viewer often have. Like either I share general game knowledge with him and it's coincidence, or what I much more believe is that he has an amazing feeling on what might be necessary information for viewers to have to enjoy the discussion!
tldr, dear jp youtube team please tell zeke he's the greatest co host I could imagine for this show !
Give the full 80% so you have the 100% when you need it. Love how you put it.
That was pretty much the advice I gave a younger colleague not long ago! Basically, enjoy the moments that the workload is low to recover your energy for when the workload is too high. That way, when things get tough you're able to handle it.
2:08:52
I am in tears at work at the Bobby Kotic bit. Holy shit
That was a great podcast, always interested in what Rami and Thor have to say.
in World of Warcraft one of the early dungeons there was an immortal frog. or nearly immortal one after you drop down the exit hole into some water.
Hearing some of these coding tricks makes me wonder if that frog is related to some boss spells or other tricks and it wasn't suppose to be visible; but it was forgotten about because it was a low level Horde dungeon.
I'm glad gaming podcasters understand the concept of institutional knowledge maybe in 10to 25 years CEO'S will reach this level of insight
What we're seeing here is the difference between companies who got complacent and thought nothing would change, and companies that were forced to change cause they fell on hard times sooner.
Really? Not one other person noticed how *smoothly* Thor UnBurgered himself at 1:04:48 👀🤣
Oh shit, it's the Infinite Stones gauntlet of podcasts hosts.
Thor was born for content like this. Love the guy.
We need the Pirate and the Pilot podcast, just get Thor and Rami to discuss the issues of the day and I'm in.
Super glad they got this pairing so quickly
I was late to watch live & I was sad. I saw the guests & I immediately shut off the stream so I can watch it fully without ads. Enjoy my UA-cam premium!
2:16:53 I remember when me and my buddy were playing dying light, and he buggered off to go to use the restroom, and I found a teddy bear that I can click, and if you clicked it enough, something wild happened. This was years ago, still remember that day, someone had a fun sense of humor. Cheers to bringing up that memory for me. Yall are awesome!
Wow, Rami and Thor on Dropped Frames. Christmas came early this year, amazing show as always (and as someone wrote earlier, thanks youtube guy!).
1:46:47 A kinda similar thing happened with Frostpunk 2 back in June when the developers and publisher announced that the game was being delayed to September from its original July release date HOWEVER the game was also supposed to simultaneously release on Gamepass and right up until the day before the original July release date, Xbox still had the release date listed as that - For nearly an entire month, Xbox had the wrong release date on the game
Man, I LOVE under-promising. Still working on the over-delivering part... Rami knows...
Man making me super nostalgic co-op split screen online or otherwise would love just a remote spectator just to relive sitting on the couch and bullshit with my friend while one plays and one watches
Delightful episode, the Thami Duo is a banger
Yes! All I wanted after last week's episode was to get Rami & Pirate Soft together, preferably without Cohh to get in the way.
This is a dream come true!
Funny, it's quite the opposite for me. Most episodes without Cohh feel lackluster to me.
Would've loved to see Rami and Thor discuss the EU "Stop Killing Games" initiative.
Otherwise great show!
Thor won't touch it, he called the movement disgusting and refuses to engage with Ross
Thor is a proven fraud so idk why people care about his "dev side view" on the subject since he wasn't ever a real dev besides doing some furry models... (Unfortunately that's not even a joke)
And he's incapable of understanding the consumer side of view for some reason, don't mean siding with, just seeing it...
So yeah in and all good thing he's shutting up about that
@@simonmasset2238 you seem mad dude ... are you ok?
@@PeterPetrowitsch I'm not, are you because you can't even accept that people genuinely and within reason don't like a content creator you like yourself? Is that a new discovered step to parasocial relationships or something ?
Or simply your own brain looking to avoid cognitive dissonance ?
If you have other really useful comments like yours I'm sure someone will care
@@simonmasset2238 i'm not the one leaving long hate comments under every post ... i'm just worried about you dude
Really liking having Thor on this show. It balances it out really well!
I don't use dark mode for my browsers. Something about the combination of contrast and brightness disparity makes it so I can read black text on white background faster and with more clarity than white text on black background.
A brief googling on this suggests it might be due to my astigmatism.
I love that Rami and Thor got to meet. I see a future bromance and this was a great episode.
what a show having rami and pirate software 👌
Id love to see rami and thor as regular hosts!
Solid personalities, great at insights, beneficial vibing off each other.
I see how 5 folks wouldn't leave room for guests any longer though.
I've been reading Rami's tweets since his D1 proposal emote. Funny how I randomly realized it was him on the podcast 20 mins into the podcast.
After the pirate software episode I was like oh maybe they've got more good episodes and he's back again!❤
Saw Thors @ and went "Guess I'm watching this one." 😂
As someone who has been Playing Egg Inc for YEARS, it does indeed get real weird. Glad to see that was his recommendation.
100% on the headbob and motion blur thing. I turn it off instantly everytime kills my head.
These guests are awesome, more please!
32:00 Dragonball FighterZ has great examples of this. people have took the camera and looked at the cinematic supers and dear lord you get some wild proportions on characters just to sell it for the camera. look up "Gohan's arm without the cinematic camera" 😂
In Finland we still have print game magazine called "Pelaaja", which has been running since 2002.
Pringles aren't chips. It's baked potato dough and legally can't be called a chip.
Thanks for the great info and content!
43:13 insane coming from the guy that once made a version of nuclear throne that had 800% screenshake
This intro is up there with the pinball animation from Sesame Street
OH MY!!!!!! It’s happened!!!!!!
I'm very excited, but also, I'm not sure I'm ready for the dread and horror, this episode will leave me with.
This was amazing, and the twitch stream was popping also live!
I'm glad we have Thor & Rami together now. I hope we get more of them away from DF too.
Rami, Thor we love you guys
Oh SHEEEEEESH! That's gonna be FIRE I CAN TELL ALREADY!
2:15:00 That's why original GTA SA felt special, there was so many small details that made it special.
Literally just finished Thor’s episode, now here we are 😂
What an amazing show! Love it!
As the prophecy foretold... (shouts down hall) Someone get Mike Bithell in here!
Thor is correct. I use non-dark mode due to dyslexia.
Light mode is also ideal when you have a lot of ambient light. You get less strain on your eyes with light mode in that environment. This also explains why so many nerds use dark mode - because we like to be in the dark.
Was busy cleaning the house while we had drywall workers here so I couldn't catch this live, but I'm gonna really enjoy this.
Great episode! Thank you
For the bungee layoffs, I know I'm late to listening to this, but highly recommend listening to the act man. Marty O'Donald. It's got one kicker of a definition of timeline of who left, and who stayed from Bungie
Rami is gonna get hired by Thor in a few years or they're gonna work together something special and I'm here for the future of games
Honestly dark mode all the way. Everything that has dark mode I use it, and if dark mode doesn't exist I hate the app or website from the start
Man, this one hits close to home...
That's why I like mikes with physical swiches
I caught the last 10 minutes of the livestream and am looking forward to seeing the entire thing!
Thor x Louis Rossman x Ross Scott! Let's settle this!
Oml yes !
Love hearing actual game developers/programmers echoing things that I've known for years. How we run companies (not just gaming companies) is completely broken and backwards these days. There are exceptions, but only a few.
wow, I didn't realise that thor was Australian
I genuinely hate any streamer that throws developers under the bus whenever there's a problem with a game. It's the most shallow reaction.
Great show.
Game Informers Video content is/was some of the best stuff ever imo Super Replays.
OP guest duo!
Kinda glad cohh wasn’t on. It be him too much talk and talking to his chat when he feels bothered
