@@ashleigh. Definitely easier once you know the solution. When anything could be a clue, it's a lot harder. I was the one that noticed a lot of the words had roman numeral letters, then girn figured out that the words had all the numbers from 1-13, then we quickly solved it after that (prime had done the dancing man cipher part hours before). But before that point, literally anything could be the solution, like the placement of the words on the page, the dots in the font, the buttons on the shirt. Until you've tried a goldbug type contest, it's hard to explain how unconstrained the problems are, which will send you down 3 hour long rabbit holes. Because you don't know if maybe you are just not counting the buttons on the shirt right, or rotating the result right, or whatever.

Maybe that’s true. However, be aware that: 1) they were focused for many hours in those problems. 2) they had experienced solving similar challenges (Prime has explained the importance of Leet code, and Thor has mentioned similar challenges in the hacker conferences). 3) Prime was a Sr. Eng in Netflix, certainly he has a lot of experience and has grown solving skills during years. Yes, they are smart. But that doesn’t mean you’ll never be able to do something similar.
You find many people who run youtube channels that can talk for hours about something, but when you put them to code something, they loss it...this guy can definitly do both...
I thought you won a hacking competition. Instead you won a problem solving competition. Well no wonder, you guys are programmers. Masters of problem solving. Great job!
im glad you enjoyed the cyphers - there are tons of events called puzzle hunts that have exactly this style of cryptic puzzle. it’d be awesome to see you work through some old problems, or enter some of the bigger annual hunts like MIT Mystery Hunt or Galactic Puzzle Hunt!
How can Prime not consider himself a genius after coding quickly the paper folding puzzle? That is simply insane. Even Theo in his Defcon video was impressed by Prime code.
@ThePrimeagen hey man I still feel like the pin number I used for lunch in middle school could still come into play at some point in my life 😂 a conspiracy based ctf would be pretty sick tho 🤔🤔
I love educational videos. Sometimes I know the stuff people are talking about, sometimes I don't. Most of the times I'm watching those I feel enlightend, I feel that I've learned something (Rossmann, it worked!) I've never watched a video from this youtuber so I didn't know what to expect. Never have I ever in my whole life felt so dumb. This dude made a great video, explains everything that was going on, never condescending but it's so far over my head...
Aye! Would you look at that - it looks like I made it to the photo reel! It was awesome watching you tackle those puzzles. Your level of coding expertise and problem-solving skills are truly impressive. I particularly enjoyed watching you solve the visual puzzle for the book folds - it blew my mind! Initially, I thought a more physical approach would be taken, such as trying to replicate the folds with a real book or using a PDF/images and overlapping the document's corners. However, your creative use of coding knowledge to piece things together was incredible. Recreating the cipher or algorithm using the text-based table was also impressive to watch. With so much text on screen, it can be easy to get lost - I know I would have been lost for sure. The dancing man puzzle was a standout - I loved seeing how you connected the Roman numerals and deciphered the lettering by illustrating the dancing men in GIMP. It was wild! I can only imagine how mind-numbing it must have been to try and move the bottles around to make sense of the puzzle at that hour. Your commitment to getting the crash and compile to work with no internet, relying on your phone's hotspot or tethering, is truly impressive. The dedication you showed in overcoming those obstacles is inspiring. And congratulations are in order - winning first place in the Gold Bug Challenge for your first Defcon ever! That's an incredible achievement! Many kudos to you! 🥇🪲🏆 🤜🤛 🥂 I hope to run into you in the comments/chat of future videos/streams and maybe even at the next Defcon! Have a good one, ThePrimeagen! P.S. I hope that latte got you through the ceremonies! ☕
Gotta love the magic of the internet. I, a complete brickhead with zero coding knowledge who's not even from the US, have just learned about a hacking convention that sounds like a lot of fun. Also I've enjoyed -both entertainment and learning wise- a lot of these and Thor's videos, with truly no knowledge about coding whatsoever. Goes to show you can really get something out of anything.
This stuff reminds me of some of the puzzle geocaches I've solved over the years. Yes. Everything starts becoming a fucking clue after you've gone down three red herring rabbit holes. But so fun. This stuff is on another whole level though, totally awesome. Wish you'd share more puzzles!
There is no way I'm going to DEFCON, I mean, I feel like I wouldn't be able to solve ANY of the puzzles alone, like 0 score for me. The Primeagen is really a smart guy, I am not
You did well on the qualification round for Crash and Compile, so that in itself is an accomplishment. Glad you had fun playing even if you were handicapped by your laptop not wanting to connect to the network.
the visual of Prime absolutely losing it and going for alex jones mode is a treat for the mind, and made me swallow and spit out my drink within a nano ((neo)vi/m > nano) second

Nah that's next week, right before Mondegreencon
It could also meant it was convention for Deftone or Def Leopard fans, but I guess a gather of nerds will have to do...

Nah it actually makes you deaf after words via sick raves
The jump from dancing man cypher to roman numerals is insane. How ya'll solved this is big brain-mode.
Well... Bunch of big brains. I needed solutions for Machinarium. Imagine being that dumb

I dunno, I didn't find it that hard of a leap?

Would love a collab with Prime and LTT
I lowkey got a crush on Luke lol
i clicked because he was third from the left

And I'm still confused :'(
