the thing i love the most about Fallout is the amount of detail that dialogue brings to the atmosphere of the game. the Confirmed Bachelor dialogue with Major Knight shows a lot about the climate at the NCR frontier. you'd think that the Legion would be less accepting of "friendships" than the people that live under the NCR.

Oxhorn, one thing I really like about your lore videos, aside from their thoroughness and attempts to be complete, is how even-handedly you tackle the social and/or political questions raised in the various Fallout games. I think you personally skew conservative, and some of your commentary evinces that (as it should, it is "your" commentary)--but you are always careful to preface such things with "I think that" or "My opinion is," and otherwise you present various factions and ethical conundrums in the game as matters of fact. You're always careful to show positives and negatives of each faction and their politics, and I think that this is a lot more instructive than to say, for example, "the Legion are definitively the bad guys," or "completing the game this way is the 'true' ending." I wanted to let you know that I appreciate this approach and I can tell it is deliberate. Thanks for the terrific and regular content!
To be fair the Legion are most definitely bad guys. Are they the only ones? That is up for debate. The Legion have no good intentions. There is no way to skew them as good.
Jaosn if you aren't paying attention, then yeah you can't skew the legions actions as good. If you are though, you realize that they keep their people safe, actually establish order, and have an actual long term goal to fix both theirs and the NCRs problems and form a society that will finally reclaim the wastes.
Spectre Walkthroughs But it is not necessary to slaughter and enslave innocents to do this, they could just as easily provide safety and have structure without having to commit mass murder.
I think it would be interesting to see you do a help or kill Ishmael Ashur, from the fallout 3 dlc "The Pitt" I found it to be one of those quests that seems clear who's good and who's evil at the start but getting to the end Ashur is not who we think he is and that his methods do have a reason. But it brings out the question does the end justify the means
There's also the fact he is a former Brotherhood of Steel member, but yeah it was the one ending where I did not feel like I did the right thing with either helping or killing Ashur. I mean his whole thing ended up wanting to cure Troglodyte Degeneration Contagion disease, the other thing is while it is a very slim chance the slaves dubbed as "workers" did have a chance to free themselves and it was hinted that he only had the slaves so that other gangs would not turn their guns on him while he could work on other things but again does the end justify the means
Thadrash Aside from trying to find a cure to Troglodyte, you gotta hand to Ashur for, one unifying raiders to one location ( something that can be debated, but more or less they worked to survive themselves and worked towards Ashur other goal) and also bringing a steel mill back in to working order. Building a railroad from the Pitt and to D.C. is nothing scoff at. He may used slaves and oppressive power to do that, but as far I can tell you he essentially did solid for the whole the Wasteland. It's makes me regret killing him after all these years because he might've rebuilt almost all of Pittsburgh, if he stayed in power. To me, on that matter alone justify the means to accomplish that end. Sooner or later human would've began rebuilding, Ashur just took a headstart
I think it's a nice touch to have him called Ashur. Ashur is the name of the Assyrian god of everything, so it's kind of fitting, since all the slaves know are their master.
Yeah, I like them. They feel more like uniforms people would actually wear. I can't imagine wearing long trousers, thick coats and scarves in the Mojave Desert of all places. Shorts and short-sleeves are the way to go!

Doesn't hurt that the creators saw fit to make an inordinate amount of the characters gay. You meet alot more gay characters than there would be in frontier locations like this as real life demographics studies show. Tolerance and understanding are important but I'm an adult and I've been inculcated with those ideas since birth. Even the generation before mine had the same treatment to an even more radical degree. It never occurred to me to be predjudiced against minorites. Whoever needs these messages is way older than the people who would play these games and too stubborn to even listen. This isn't a problem if heterosexual relationship plots have their share . But they don't really. Alot of people my are surprisingly bad at dealing with problems in heterosexual relationships and it seems more and more obvious that the media they consume has been devoid of the minutiae of relationship conflicts for a while. Entertainment is educational no matter how you look at. What you feed your brain regularly is how it regularly functions. I can only appreciate the fact that people my age are bad with relationships because I'm very extroverted, started dating at puberty, and have had a series of disastrous relationships running through my life since. I started reading older media and the important psychology books with long and solid reputations and it occured to me that what I found there, had I found it earlier, would've probably saved a few of my relationships. But those stories aren't told anymore. Instead, broadly generic romance stories with gay couples is inordinately presented as if those stories are applicable to a relatively huge portion of the world, which isn't true. But those stories don't even apply to gay people as the dynamics are different ans there isn't as solid of a foundation to form a consensus on common issues that plague these relationships. Yet they are pushed to the forefront anyway. There's an increasing awareness that this is artificial, not beneficial, and may be harmful.
I think it’s important to note that this Mojave outpost is actually already in California. If you go on google maps and look at the State boundaries, you’ll see that Primm is a border town that signifies when you’ve entered into Nevada
Please Ox, can you play or cover some wasteland stuff, at least wasteland 2 on scotch and smoke rings? The Desert Rangers must be a reference to the wasteland series, and also the reason why they're mentioned in Fallout 1. Wasteland 1 and FO New vegas share many similarities and references.
Also I want to add that this is an interesting series to follow in general because the founder of the studio (inXile) is a former founder of Interplay and they developed wasteland 2 through fundraising, and currently a Wasteland 3 is in the make, also made possible through fundraising. (but I'm sure you already knew that) Oh, and you will enjoy reading the strat guides from these games as well.
It sucks that the only way past that gate is by nuking the NCR at the end of Lonesome Road. You can get past via console commands but if you do that, there's nothing.
Grant Pearson Actually that's not how it works anymore, there are a few specific spots where they can spawn if the player gets close to them. Used to be that they would spawn in one place, as you said, but that didn't quite work, as many players would fast travel around faster than they could catch up, so that was changed in one of the patches.
Hmm too much of a coincidence that the Vikki and Vance billboard is right next to a V8 atomic car billboard. The first being a clear reference to Bonnie and Clyde and a Ford V8 is a notable getaway vehicle of the duo that helped them escape the law since the engine of that car was faster than the police cars of that era.
I only discovered your channel today, and I've been watching a lot of your videos all day. I love how clear you are when making your points and info, including how you present it by reading out the character lines as if you are the protagonist themself. Since I missed a lot in the fallout games, your videos really fill in the many gaps. Subbed and shared!
Man, I'm not normally blown away by graphic overhauls, but whatever you used on the NPCs (especially Knight), is great. Seriously, it looks like he's from a game a generation *after* New Vegas.
It makes sense that one might suspect so, but the group in the Wasteland series are the Arizona Desert Rangers -- different area, and a different fictional universe/continuity. With that being said, the first Fallout game began as an attempt at a Wasteland sequel, but issues with intellectual property control and other studio-centered difficulties (as I recall) led to the formation of an entirely new IP that took shape as the Fallout that we all know and love. It would be foolish to ignore the obvious influences (both spoken and unspoken) that Wasteland had on Fallout, however. They are definitely related worlds that share a lot. In fact, Brian Fargo (who led the dev team on Fallout 2, if I'm not mistaken?) headed up the studio that developed Wasteland 2 and is working on Wasteland 3 now. It does seem pretty on-the-nose that there are two different beloved post-apocalyptic video game universes that take place in the American west/southwest and both have Desert Ranger factions. There's something appealing about turning the land back into the Old West after the bombs drop, I suppose.
What I wish was there was more you could do to "assist" your chosen faction,as I had the same issue with Fallout 3 where you explore derelict factories and such but there's never a option to try to get them back on-line. For instance the Rob-Co complex as I imagine the NCR wouldn't say no for a few combat robot to help them out,as overstretched as they are.
The plane at 24:31 Might either be a B-29 Superfortress because there is the one B-29 in the lake near the Boomers, meaning that it was used readily in the area. Or it could be a B-17 and the plane was just preserved by the desert sandstorms. Also, because it looks like it has an opening near the tail that is exposed, could be a opening for a gun mount.
Oxhorn Thanks for the great vids. I love how you’re the type of youtuber that puts a lot of time and research into what they create. You, especially, provide so much detail in every video and although they seem quite long, it is definitely worth knowing everything.
I like watching your lore videos for the fact that you continually uncover things that I miss when I go through it and it changes my perception on the various locations you show. Keep up the excellent work :D Unrelated curiosity, have you ever considered setting up your own battles in NV or Fallout 4, Oxhorn? I'd wager you could set up some insane fights between the various groups of both the Vegas Wastes and the Commonwealth.
i love your channel. whenever i play games its just a game but the way you describe things makes these games seem more like the work of art they are. i cant believe ive missed all of the little details ive missed over the years.
I'm actually writing a collection of short stories about Texas in the Fallout universe. I don't have it posted anywhere yet, But i would happily share it with you!
@@maxboyden5209 Interesting. That's wholly up to you. I just always thought that not looking towards Texas for inspiration and/or points of interest was always a missed opportunity. Would also be interesting to see how much of Texan Culture/Nomenclature survived, and what changed over the course of 200 years (or less, depending on when you want to set the story).
@@Brswing I’ve actually set it in 2301, so it’s a bit farther in the future than most fallout games. Because of this, there isn’t a ton of radiation in the air. There are some hotspots, like Dallas and the Gulf. But it’s mostly just Texas.
@@maxboyden5209 Any links to the other factions set within the universe? That was another thing that I always didn't necessarily like about the Fallout Universe, at least when it comes to the extent that society would at least try and rebuild itself in some form or capacity, even if it is far less civilized. Texas Rangers do make for some interesting story opportunities, obviously they'd be a great paramilitary arm as well as an investigative arm. There's plenty of opportunity for technology as well as reasons why Texas would build itself back up in some way shape or form because of how important the state was with industry, resources, and so forth. The point is that everything felt a little... too isolated. I get that there's no real reliable form of communication and there's a lot of unknowns but it just seemed a little strange that there wasn't at least some rumblings as to what was generally out there within the US in some respect. You know, like some Oregon Trail/Lewis and Clark-esque exploration. That is something that I have to give Fallout 4 some credit for. They hint at Kellogg having traveled across the US but we don't get much concrete information, just a hint. Would be interesting to try and fill in the blanks and so forth.
@@Brswing OOOH That’s an idea. I just started writing it, so any ideas like that are awesome. The feel for most of the towns in the stories is kinda like an old western. Decent population, but nothing huge. People are rebuilding, just slowly. But there are definitely fewer isolated shacks. The main problem with the efforts is the heat and humidity. Fun fact: a humid area stays irradiated for longer. So it’s hard to move to central and southern Texas since it takes longer for the radiation to fade away.
I go between 2 companions. Cass and Veronica because they are both great company, good fighters, and they have a very good back story to both of them. Also, make sure to get the dialogue about whether or not she knows what a fish is.
Hey I know this is off topic but a couple of days ago you did the wastelander survival guide chap.2 and you used a guess rifle with 3 bullets not 1 was it a unique rifle and if it is then what is it called?
love the video (and that voice, sexy as ever), but those NCR Uniforms were... off-putting. they look great and all, just dont fit the Artstyle of Fallout :/ They honestly seemed like someone painted over US Army Unifotms with beige and left it at that - no worn-out leathers, no Chestplates or other Armour Pieces made out of Metal Scraps and those Helmets just look awfully unprotecting against the hot desert sun. Also I wonder how much blankets they use, since desert nights are freezing cold.
I spent most of my years in the American SW, a lot of time in the Mojave, and never I have I heard anyone pronounce it Mojavé (ay) until Fallout New Vegas. It's named after the Mojave tribe and AFAIK, and verified online, it's pronounced with a long e at the end. Not to be critical, great video, I know it's that Rose of SharonCassidy who started pronouncing it this way.
Eyyy I just woke up from feeling like SHIT. Glad to see another lore video, these are genuinely my favorite of Ox's videos. If you see this Ox, rock on man. Lore videos are a special kind of teaching for gamers that want to learn more from the games they love. Keep on the quality content 👍
the mojave outpost checkpoint is supposed to depict the weight station on the border between California and Nevada, and the mountainous canyon further south, mixed together, located on the 15 freeway traveling from the Nevada side going west.. All freight trucks have to stop for inspection there, and It has large metal arches with "prepare to stop". The Highway Patrol station is supposed to depict the weight station, but actually resembles a crappy and isolated gas station in that area. It looks different now though, since the roads have been redone and expanded since the game was released.
Major Knight is a God send, especially early in game before boosting player repair skill. With a repair skill of 100, Major Knight repairs everything to 100% which is key to getting the most protection from your armor and the highest damage from your weapons! Fortunately, the cost for repairs directly relates to the value of the item so polishing that turd of a 9mm pistol and crappy varmint rifle you have early on won't cost near as much as when you take him your 1st set of combat armor. Either way... it's well worth the caps! Thanks you Major Knight!!!
Hey Ox, have you considered using the somewhat older mod New Vegas Redesigned 2? It's an improvement over the vanilla faces but still sticks closer to them than FCO or NVR3. Might be worth a shot, as a compromise between higher graphical fidelity and the taste of the viewers.
I always wondered if Ranger Ghost had the same problem that I do. I burn then get whiter. Was darker skinned when I was younger. I have met one other person who "bleaches in the sun" as they said.
Lora Elstad: To be honest, I haven't looked it up. I remember people saying that when you peel the skin when you are burnt, it makes it whiter, but I tried not doing that, and I still got whiter.
I've dated real world equivalents to Cassidy Rose, and they are as a whole a complicated mess made storm. Rare, beautiful creatures, the story arcs are convincing. And for the record, I've gone though most of the Fallout lore with a stiff upper lip, unhealthy levels of karmic Schadenfreude, if not a joker's perspective to many of the heart rending sob stories. Honest Hearts, both Mormon nod story-line and the All Father lore, hurt in ways I didn't think were possible. I look forward to the videos.
@3:30 The Desert Rangers are even older than Fallout 1. They go back to Wasteland, the original post nuclear apocolyptic rpg. Interplay made Wasteland, a story about survivors banding together in the American southwest after the great war (with the russians in wasteland's lore), fighting mutants and drools, shadowclaws and raiders, all while sporting leather jackets and power armor. They made it under EA, and when they couldn't get the rights back to make a sequel, they tried making a spiritual successor; Fallout. Tycho and the Mojave Outpost is a nod to that legacy. Interestingly enough, some of the team members from obsidian, the team behind New Vegas that traces its roots back to Black Isles Studios (Fallout 2), went on to work for InXile to make Wasteland 2.

I Mr Cardinal I Now the Burned Man and Legate Lanius are great stories. I just wish we had the chance to see more background than we actually do.

Spectre Walkthroughs yo you should get this app called amino and go on fallout amino. So we can chat about the legion. We both seem to be somewhat fans. Just ask for someone named Amir
I like that the couriers gay-dar is so good he can spot a gay in uniform, at attention. That takes serious skill.

*PERFECT PLACE FOR A NCR DEN*
I think it’s important to note that this Mojave outpost is actually already in California. If you go on google maps and look at the State boundaries, you’ll see that Primm is a border town that signifies when you’ve entered into Nevada
It isn't it's on the border
Please Ox, can you play or cover some wasteland stuff, at least wasteland 2 on scotch and smoke rings?
The Desert Rangers must be a reference to the wasteland series, and also the reason why they're mentioned in Fallout 1. Wasteland 1 and FO New vegas share many similarities and references.
Also I want to add that this is an interesting series to follow in general because the founder of the studio (inXile) is a former founder of Interplay and they developed wasteland 2 through fundraising, and currently a Wasteland 3 is in the make, also made possible through fundraising. (but I'm sure you already knew that)
Oh, and you will enjoy reading the strat guides from these games as well.
I'm still angry that Ranger Jackson couldn't handle a couple of ants by himself. He could've sniped them from a distance
It sucks that the only way past that gate is by nuking the NCR at the end of Lonesome Road. You can get past via console commands but if you do that, there's nothing.
Oxhorn, you forgot to mention the "guns and bullets" skill book to boost guns in the Nevada Highway Patrol Station. Loved the video though!
Legion assasins aren't random encounters they spawn in one place and run to your location.... it's not a random encountor.
Pascal That doesn't make it a random encounter. It's still a pre-set encounter.
Hmm too much of a coincidence that the Vikki and Vance billboard is right next to a V8 atomic car billboard. The first being a clear reference to Bonnie and Clyde and a Ford V8 is a notable getaway vehicle of the duo that helped them escape the law since the engine of that car was faster than the police cars of that era.
where can i donate you some bottlecaps?
Is there also a trade in for star bottlecaps?
do yall take legion denarius?

I only discovered your channel today, and I've been watching a lot of your videos all day. I love how clear you are when making your points and info, including how you present it by reading out the character lines as if you are the protagonist themself. Since I missed a lot in the fallout games, your videos really fill in the many gaps. Subbed and shared!

Man, I'm not normally blown away by graphic overhauls, but whatever you used on the NPCs (especially Knight), is great. Seriously, it looks like he's from a game a generation *after* New Vegas.
Aren't the desert rangers the same group that you command in the game Wasteland?
Vanguard Lycan Dude SPOILER. Also just nuke them both. Yay anarchy.
Bram Weenink wrong comment?
Reilly's rangers are the best lol
What I wish was there was more you could do to "assist" your chosen faction,as I had the same issue with Fallout 3 where you explore derelict factories and such but there's never a option to try to get them back on-line. For instance the Rob-Co complex as I imagine the NCR wouldn't say no for a few combat robot to help them out,as overstretched as they are.
Man, I feel a little bad for major Knight. NCR needs to chill and let this dude get a boyfriend lmao
NCR CO: Ranger Jackson thats is not you proper uniforn.Jackson: uhhh
Oxhorn Thanks for the great vids. I love how you’re the type of youtuber that puts a lot of time and research into what they create. You, especially, provide so much detail in every video and although they seem quite long, it is definitely worth knowing everything.
At 17:18 you became a poet and you didn't know it, a inhospitable woman named ghost who stands at her post.
I like watching your lore videos for the fact that you continually uncover things that I miss when I go through it and it changes my perception on the various locations you show. Keep up the excellent work :D
Unrelated curiosity, have you ever considered setting up your own battles in NV or Fallout 4, Oxhorn? I'd wager you could set up some insane fights between the various groups of both the Vegas Wastes and the Commonwealth.

i love your channel. whenever i play games its just a game but the way you describe things makes these games seem more like the work of art they are. i cant believe ive missed all of the little details ive missed over the years.
Two things.
Firstly, I want to see a video about Cass.
Secondly, wouldn't it be awesome to see a Fallout game set in Texas? Could be real interesting.
Sergeant Mcgee always just walks on the mines on the bridge and that's the end of that.
A perfect spot, for an NCR den.
Shadow Player it's from operation anchorage
Gauss rifle.
I love how he says "Major Knight, likes Men" lol. And also the men in his game look so hot *chants in Gay*
love the video (and that voice, sexy as ever), but those NCR Uniforms were... off-putting. they look great and all, just dont fit the Artstyle of Fallout :/ They honestly seemed like someone painted over US Army Unifotms with beige and left it at that - no worn-out leathers, no Chestplates or other Armour Pieces made out of Metal Scraps and those Helmets just look awfully unprotecting against the hot desert sun.
Raul Tejada's Lore
Eyyy I just woke up from feeling like SHIT. Glad to see another lore video, these are genuinely my favorite of Ox's videos. If you see this Ox, rock on man. Lore videos are a special kind of teaching for gamers that want to learn more from the games they love. Keep on the quality content 👍
my god I never noticed that statue is a reference to the game called wasteland, but ofc in wasteland the rangers are still their own entity
Yep, the original Rangers in FO1 (and FO1 itself) were inspired by Wasteland.
Makes sense since some of the previous FO games and wasteland 1 and also 2 I think, share the same creators (not all the team but individuals I mean)
I love the New Vegas videos, it was the first Fallout game I ever played.

have you ever thought of making a TES series?
the mojave outpost checkpoint is supposed to depict the weight station on the border between California and Nevada, and the mountainous canyon further south, mixed together, located on the 15 freeway traveling from the Nevada side going west..
I had just massacred the Mojave Outpost when this video went up
Major Knight is a God send, especially early in game before boosting player repair skill.
How about a video on Yes Man?
Only Oxhorn could make a 40 minute long video based on an outpost that is literally just the NCR's ridiculousness bundles into one area
Oxhorn, will you do a video on vault 19?
Here's something you forgot, if you sneak up the ramp, Ghost will say how stealthy you came up without any noise and missing her alert going off
So he is doing the dlc in order he said he was doing the honest hearts next
Release order. So Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues then Lonesome Road.
Damn Ranger Ghost's voice, I feel like I need a drink of water.
ffs Oxhorn it's pronounced Mo - ha - vee not Mo - ha - vay.
Woo Oxhorn! Lay that lore on me!
Even after the countless hours I've spent playing this game, I look forward to every new in-depth analysis. Can't wait for the Cassidy video.
Oh Gaaaaary
Since u say u read all your comments i make one simple request, in your next video at around 1 min say something related to baked potatoes
