Oxhorn they're the example of how free trade makes people act. Now I'm not saying if capitalism is good or bad but free trade is what the Van Graffs represent. If you look at the real world we had to restrict trade in some ways to keep it possible for new businesses to rise and that's not free trade.
No, the law is what keeps trade free. Without law, freedom can't exist. Law keeps evil people from trampling the freedoms of others. Law allows anyone to start a business and compete. Law keeps evil people from eliminating the competition--either by killing them or by using unfair tactics to undermine their business. When law is not enforced, we find plutocracies, where wealthy and powerful rule and keep others from becoming wealthy and powerful. A plutocracy is the antithesis of a free society with a free market.
When laws are enforced, the rich and powerful are punished for killing or undermining the freedoms of the little guys, which allows the little guys to grow, become rich and powerful, and provide existing businesses competition. When laws are enforced, everyone is free to engage in business, which drives down prices for consumers, encourages innovation, and accelerates the growth of the economy, technology, and scientific progress.
The Van Graff's are an example of a plutocratic mob society trying to gain as much power as possible to place everyone beneath their heels. The NCR, while flawed, are the only law-enforcing entity in the Mojave, and are the only ones that can keep corruption in check. They penalize both the Van Graffs & the Crimson Caravan company (as we will see in an upcoming video on the topic) which allows smaller companies and caravans to compete, improving trade (more caravans = more trade), improving prices (cheaper shipping options = cheaper prices for consumers), making the economy better, and society freer.
The Van Graffs do not represent free trade.
Bitch slapped into the fucking ground by economics
Yeet
Yes. And this is why I hate when conservacucks always whine about government interference with business.
damn, just reading that made me wanna salute to you man.
I love how the guard outside is called Simon and you have to follow his instructions. Simon Says, anybody...
Frick you
I hadn’t noticed that

Ha! Well spotted
I wish there was a dialog option where you can respond "Um, I've had bad experience with 'simple courier jobs.'"
I'd think it would be funnier if you said something along the lines of "With me and courier jobs, the games always been rigged from the start"
"Sorry but when you mentioned courier work, I just got a splitting headache."
Fun Fact: Gloria Van Graff is voiced by the same actor as the female Sole Survivor
Rhapsody heh... The more you know
wait really?
Ho...That why she's crap!
That voice actor voiced Jack from Mass Effect 2 too!
Adrian Sinke
She does indeed. I believe she also voices Jas Wilkins in Sloan amongst a few others
Fun fact: the actress that give Gloria Van Graff voice is Courtney Taylor , the same actress that give voice to the Sole Survivor from Fallout 4.
Yola L.M holy moly, that was a interesting information, i tought i was crazy for thinking taht too
stolen
She does sound like her. the reason I didnt recognize her is probably because of her deeper voice
She also voiced Jack in Mass Effect 2 and 3.
You filthy thief
"We have the best security" proceeds to have every good of her's stolen after the courier drags every item to the bathroom
Cesar Farfan poppa stealthboy.

I ended up letting the bomber in.
Made myself quite a bit of money.
I didn't hear them say to not move and walked right in and had to gun them down. Turns out they actually have a lot of weapons mods.
When Gloria said ill mark it on your map i got p.t.s.d. from Preston Garvey
Maybe Preston Garvey is a member of the Van Graff family.
Simon's voice is Preston Garvey, so maybe Simon really is a younger Preston Garvey.
*This is irrefutable proof that Preston lied about his past life in the Minutemen, and he's actually a 6 year old boy with abnormal growth in physicality and mentality, and he's actually Gloria's son.
Anyone who disagrees with this is stupid and ignorant.*
I support this 1000%

Callum Nesbitt torching his corpse may have been a touch too far xD
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Who says you can't sell Sex-Bot programmed disks? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
WAAAAAAAALMAAAAART!!!
I actually think the whole "Stealing Cass' outfit and hat off her ashes turns the Van Graffs hostile" bit is a result of the mods you are using. Normally, it is not possible to get those items from Cass after she is killed, nor is it considered stealing from the Silver Rush if you loot her ashes.
True. Faker.
oxhorn's mods alter the video yet again
I love the Silver Rush. First thing I do when I reach New Vegas is go in, Stealth Boy, and rob the whole store.
same
Charsept I just pick it up and bring it to the bathroom
Veteran Legionaire, Play a lil' "Pumped up kicks" on holotape whilst you do it?
Charsept way to keep your head rookie, there is Hope for you yet
I kill them with Cass and then loot all their weapons and body armor, and sell them for quite a lot of caps
Gotta admit, I lost my shit when I let that guy into the Van Gruff's building and it exploded. I was already tired of taking orders from that dick outside so I purposely let in the undesirables to spite them. It would have gone unrewarded in most other RPGs; with maybe some bad reputation or an insult or two from the Van Gruffs...
And then I get tossed 20 feet, literally at a loss for words before bursting out laughing! They actually let me kill an entire faction by just being a petty shit! God, I love New Vegas...
I'm greedy so I went in with a stealth boy, robbed the place blind, lifted the Van Graff key from Jean Baptiste, looted all the crates, and then proceeded with the quest like nothing happened. Only thing they had left to sell was that flamer on the table but the story progresses like they didn't notice their entire inventory just vanished and I suddenly had all sorts of energy weapons in pristine condition. So realistic lol. It made killing them all so much easier when I brought Cass to the Silver Rush. Good times in Freeside...
(Slow Joker golf clap.) You, fine sir, are why we need cloning.
Matthew Rodriguez heh... Your a weapon to surpass metal gear...
If the AI reacted to being robbed afterwards, I'd offer to help find who robbed them too. For some caps of course. Gotta barter. I'm all about free trade when it means more for me. Then I'd pin the whole thing on that hack Fantastic from Helios One. Nobody would miss that idiot. Everyone wins. By everyone, I mean me. I expect my Nobel Peace Prize in the mail pronto. Send a courier.
During Heartaches by the Number, I decided to ransack the Silver Rush because they killed caravaneers. I then sold the ransacked items to Gloria.
All that without Karma loss. Win-win.
Karma? What's that? Can I sell it for chems?
“More caps than you’d ever seen in a lifetime”
*opens inventory*
Caps: 9999999
There's a mod to save Cass with a speech check of thirty. It's lore-friendly and I recommend it to those who want to still have her in their company and still do Birds of a Feather.
Gay_Leonian_Nerd IIRC, I think lying to John-Baptiste is supposed to come up as an option even without a mod. It came up in mine.
@@ingasparrow how?
@@ingasparrow yeah, I've never seen that and I always run through the VG quests for easy money before picking up Cass.

Because that's how they get repeat customers and no one else dealing energy weapons lets them sell at any price they want. I.e. rich clients
Well, they still have some pretty neat merch. I’d love to get my hands on that Smitty Special, Cleansing Flame, etc.
Edit: Never mind, apparently they go hostile regardless on how you complete Cass’s quest.
Plus Van Graff Laser Rifles and Plasma Rifles deal less damage than the standard models
@@George-Hawthorneyeah they are such a rip off
I like that your criticism isn't the whole murder thing, but an economic argument.
Not if you do a pacifist playthrough though.
+Detective John Kimble Actually, there is a pacifist run. Search "Many a True Nerd New Vegas No Kill" for a full playthrough.
The van graffs dont respect the NAP
they only murder to further their economic goals
@Roberto The Super Mutant This comment is 5 years old my man, I have no clue what this is even about.
I mean. If i happened to "accidentally" let the suicide bomber in... Thats not my fault.
Rriiiiiiiight?
Could’ve just dragged the stuff to the bathroom and then stole it. That’s what I do with everything I want to steal in fallout and Skyrim, and any other game that allows you to drag stuff you want to steal.
:P
Which one is that? it will help me later...
@@Robodragon17 It doesn't count as stealing if no one saw you steal. So if you want to steal something use "Z" to place the item a a room where no one can see you (preferably with a door) and steal it. If you did this right the owner will not take back your item and you won't get bad reputation. You'll still get negative karma

I got them for free by carrying them to the bathroom area, crouching to stay hidden, then stealing it, it took forever, but i got it for free, and i was able to do the birds of a feather quest
I still will never get why people say NV has nothing to do
because they never played it.
Random Person it's because you need to play well over an hour to get out of the tutorial area, as well as the whole need to collect fast travel locations before you can really move around at speeds the game design intended.
jabun the wanderer good thing Goodsprings is optional.
who would want to be forced to play the tutorial every time they start a new game anyway? wait... that sounds familiar.
After FO4 the FONV's graphics, for me, are immersion breaking. I can't go back to that. Also, power armor and the really sad, sad depiction of BOS in FONV - I just can't do it anymore.
The FO4 wasteland is more alive to me.
T Hirakawa The BOS were intented to be isolated, hourding tech only for themselves and their small group. They had just suffered a defeat at the hands of the NCR, so they had no choice but to retreat and stay isolated like previous games. They were never intented to be this big bulking army willing to save the wasteland and be the good guys and all that. Fallout 4 could've introduced a new faction, a group that rose differently from the ashes as it is all the way across the country. As for graphics, i use mods to make it seem mainstream, but graphics were never the focus of FNV. The focus was being able to roleplay in a post apocalyptic society that has rebuilt itself imid the very grey politics of the region.
I just spent 50 minutes watching a video about a minor detail about a game I've never played. I loved it. New sub sir, many thanks.

You know the door guard position that opened up "recently" as in 2 seconds ago it is yours.
The Van Graffs lost me when they dared threaten my drinking buddy. I knew that middleman was from the Legion, could spot that superiority complex a mile away.
I helped them to a point, but then eliminated them for what they did to Cass's caravans.
Still hope you do a video on Oasis, but I bet that'll need to include a video on Harold the Ghoul before.
Oh yes, I will do one on Harold. Lot's to tell about the fellow!
Oxhorn I'm glad. Harold is the unsung hero of the wasteland. Thanks to him and his mutant tree, we may yet see the Wasteland return to green. Wish more Treeminders were Ghouls, then Harold would have friends who'd understand his plight. Instead of a bunch of drugged up cultists.
I love how all the customers are Yuri Lowenthal lol.
Yuri Lowenthal also voices the male courier.
@@doryanburlison6998 since when did the mail courier have a voice? Other than making pain grunts
@@MrOSUrocker Exactly the pain grunts were Lowenthal's. And if you still don't believe me look up the video showing all the voice actors of this game and who they played.
@@doryanburlison6998 no I believe you just took me a second to think about when the courier would actually speak. Between him and Liam O'Brien I think they single-handedly voiced 80% of the characters in this game
I remember when I personally killed everyone in the place and looted everything on the shelves. My character specialized in energy weapons, and when I saw their assortment available, I just couldn't resist. They were criminals anyway.
I'm sitting here with a pretty high hour count in this game alone, among all the Fallout games, and I didn't even once consider letting the Suicide Bomber in to see what would happen. Honestly this changes the way I look at how I can complete Heartaches By The Number, Cass's Quest. Thank you for teaching me this VERY NICE fight skip Ox. Keep up the good work.
Just recently found your channel and I've been bingewatching all of it.. keep it up!
I really wish they would do a remake of this game, It truly deserves it😉😉
Whenever I see an Oxhorn video, I get a huge grin because I can't wait to hear his voice. Love ya, Ox!
Should have mentioned that Caesar's legion was also from Van Buren. The legion, NCR, and BOS in NV really show how to do past factions with new life. Where as the Enclave in FO3 was a poor rehash.
Lol ok so the ncr and bos in nv being exactly as is in the previous games is ok, but not the Enclave in fo3? Are you serious?
@Cloud Strife bringing back factions from previous games is ok, but the Enclave in FO3 was awful. it had nothing from the previous Fallouts that made them amazing as a faction
@@lionofthecherubim4486 How are the NCR and BOS the same in FNV as they are in fallout 2? In the first two games the BOS is strong and unified. in FNV they are having a leadership crisis and aren't nearly the fighting force they once were.
Then the NCR aren't really the same because they were not very fleshed out in FO2 and never existed in FO1.
Plus even Bethesda stole the idea of Trogs from the Van Buren design document although they take away the most of the character building and basically make them feral ghouls 2.0

Lol when I first got to free side I tried to rob the silver rush... didn't go so well...

@Oxhorn- Hmm I thought you would've known about the 3rd option: You can use the "Terrifying Presence" perk to scare him into not killing Cass. It's a 70 check I believe.
I don't think you can complete Birds of a Feather though.
I was playing My character as a guy who was more or less morally good but the twist was He had no conscience, He is a sociopath that has been set on a more or less good guy path. Bu If I get somebody killed or murder people I get over it quickly so long as it as for the greater good. I was doing Cassidy's mission to expose the van Graffs and They asked Me to find Her (Not knowing I was already Her friend) and being naive and never have done this quest in previous playthroughs or even knew about it, I brought Her there thinking The guy genuinely just wanted to talk to Her, when He killed Her My jaw hit the floor lol It threw a wrench into My role play and changed the way I was playing My character or thought about it. Even if He has no conscience That would have to fuck You up inside to witness and for the sake of being under cover have to show no reaction for hours. I acted as though I had no reaction to it and just continued working for Them and got paid and went My separate ways leaving Them be for the duration of My play through but nearing the end when I was getting in all the factions good graces, I did a mission for the brotherhood that told Me to wipe Them out which I did without hesitation, I got My group of followers (multiple follower mod) and armed Them with the best of the best modified Guns and AR's from Our arsenal and went to the front door and wasted Them As They came running out the door and then went inside and tactically took out who was left and after that I packed up the Van Graffs entire supply of explosives, guns, ammo armor, you name it, I completely cleaned out everything They had and sold 85% of it to the gun runners since I'm not a plasma fan and Then for the sake of My groups arsenal I put the other 15 in our supply. Fuck the Van Graffs and their naive ass arrogance They ain't shit :)
Dude.
Have you ever heard of punctuation?
all I can say is you are a fucking savage role playing that much hahahahaha
“We’re all gonna be rich” *gives you 1000 caps* AHAHAHAHHAH

Ahh good ol nevada skies...
There should have been an option to lie, and say Rose was either dead or out of the area (speech check). So you can keep Rose while finishing the quest.
Also, it's actually really easy to steal everything in "The Silver Rush". Just levitate everything into the bathroom, shut the door and crouch so you're not detected, then load up, and walk out without a care.
Everyone if you do the "birds of a feather" mission save your game before you search the last guy he is a bomber let him go in then when he kills everyone in there loot the place and sell The items you get it mostly everyone in there is wearing combat armor you can repair your own armor give it to your companion or sell it #Caps

The Van Graff story and Cass' story can coexist. All you have to do instead of taking Cass into the casino, trade equipment with her and take her hat. Show the hat to Jean-bapdouche and bam, no need to kill anyone.
Not true. If you end her quest "Heartache by the Number" in any way--even using the peaceful option--the Van Graffs turn hostile the next time you visit them.
That is true, but it lets you finish both quests instead of having to choose one.
Eatay Mizrachi BRuh that's a mod my G. That ain't in the vanilla game
Oxhorn I understand, I just assumed that it was the peaceful option between the Van Graffs and Cass, but I suppose it's okay to be wrong every now and then.
Thank you for the reply!
This is the first time I've ever seen it spelled "Eatay". Clever.
The final mission of "Birds of a feather" reminded me strongly of the final quest that Salvatore gives you in Fallout 2. Considering that you are helping a crime family on an energy weapon trade done with the main antagonists of the game, the similarities come apparent. Just something I didn't see many people noticed.

Hello again!
Great video as always, in response to your question: I have mixed feelings on the Van Graffs, I have no idea what to think.
Can we expect a video on Old World Blues any time soon?
Not soon. I have a few more New Vegas DLCs to get through before I tackle Old World Blues. But I will!
For those wondering, the guard at the entrance won't take any Quest-marked weapons from you when you enter the first time. So things like the Laser Detonator won't be taken.
44:00 This is why Gloria is my favorite Bad Guy in New Vegas. She's cold, ruthless, savvy and smart. She knows how to play the NCR to her own ends. But most importantly, after learning of the Legion's reputation of screwing over people, Gloria knows better than to think an exception would be made for her somehow.
Yes, the Van Graffs have done evil things. They have murdered people just for being in the way. Yes, Cass could be murdered by them, too. But when the option comes, it turns out it's best *not* to kill Gloria or Alice McLafferty.
Gloria shows why she's like a noble demon. All things considered, she's not bad to work for. As long as you don't piss her off, she'll have your back and pay you well.
But if you help Cass kill Gloria, Cass becomes something much, much worse. No really, that ending terrified me.
Who knew taking the crown of "The Baddest Bitch in the Mojave" would be not a good thing?
she is my fav brain over brawn baddy in New Vegas, while the burning man is my fav brawn over brain baddy, they both can play both ends but Gloria prefers to use her brain to beat her foes while the burning man has no issues what so ever putting the fear of god in you by brute force
You dont need stay in her way, you only need be considerate a treat for her, and she send her brother to kill you. This is the motive why she is evil and need be stoped
Moreover, Cass become a bitch dont turn Gloria in a better person. In this case, Cass need ve stoped
@@brunosantosdealmeida2074 You're right, but in helping Cass get revenge, you make things much, much worse for the Mojave. You completely destroy trade lines and shut down the Mojave's economy. Cass becomes a terrorist with no morals or integrity.
If you want Alice and Gloria gone *and* keep your hands clean, the way to do it is to steal the Gun Runners blueprints. The trash will take itself out. Otherwise, the NCR does a good job of forcing Alice and Gloria to play nice.
The point is, don't let your anger get in the way of seeing the big picture. Your actions don't take place in a vacuum.
@@ingasparrow you can kill the van graff family and dont be allied with Cass, keeping her in the Mojave outpost. Two problens solved 😊, no more violent girls put World in danger
I always did this quest after getting through all of the side quest for every faction and getting their safehouse. Then I would betray the Legion if course. But anyway this quest was so well done when you actually go through the quest with them.
Hey, if you get the "save cass" and "heartache by the number" mods, you can follow both quests without locking out the energy weapon store or a companion, and do it in a way that actually makes a decent amount of sense
This was my faveroute quest when I first played the game. Good video, I like how you show literally ALL options.
I like Cass too much to complete this questline :(
And that what Fallout's Fallout,Obsidian Literally Trying us in possible way to Fail Quest.
And now i totally missed the Powder Ganger Questline, and Fuckup The Primm Questline finding new sherrif.(so I Just Decide To invade and kill everyone on Ncrcf) Lol
I just killed them all
No disrespect but your videos are amazing I fall asleep so peacefully to the sound of your voice and the interesting fall out stories it’s like your reading me a bedtime story!
I'd love to see a video on Arcade Gannon
TIE Fighter GARRYYY
14:40 "he has shifty eyes"
*is literally staring the other direction*
Anyone else turned on by Gloria Van Graff? She is an evil female character done right. Evil being utterly subjective given the context of the world of Fallout - but here to me in the sense that you could not consider Gloria to be good. But damn she makes evil look fine ;)
You need help
The van Graff's is a great faction to join love their strong but sober and efficient business and strong and know where to strike , I love the black armor and plasma rifles those 2 are my favorite combo in new vegas and fo3
Man, you are a great storyteller and your voice is perfect for it. Thank you for the time you put into these videos.
Oxhorn you should do more Fallout 1 & 2 lore.
I SWEAR ON MY LIFE, on the xbox version of this game i was able to get John and Cass to talk to eachother and found that john has a crush on cass, i remember him stammering or something and there wasn't blood spilled. but ever since that first playthrough i could never replicate it
i later learned that it WAS an option in a later build of the game but was removed or something.
You know, I shoplifted from the Van Graffs using real life shoplifting skills
*SHOPLIFTING 100*
I had just a garbage day today, but watching your vids always cheers me up. Thanks for being such a cool dude
That was really cool. I've never seen that quest line to its conclusion before. That one little thing always stopped me from even playing it with the idea of reverting saves.
IM OXHORN AND ITS TIME TO TALK ABOUT THE HIDDEN MYSTERIES BEHIND MY BEARD
I bet it smells strongly of pussy juice
why? are you jealous that you don't have a beard xD?
its not like a man doesn't a have choice to have beard or not... not every man likes to "Conform to the Clean-shaven Norm"
@@seanconnery6985 that is... discrimination
I've just found this channel today and you sir have earned yourself another subscriber.
Very informative videos about my favourite Fallout games.
I wonder where they are getting all these energy weapons. As far as I know. No one manufactures them anymore in the Fallout universe.
not directly but scavenging to replace/repair parts used for construction of new weapons can be very useful, after all look at how many options you can use for almost any given weapon if you have the jury rigging perk
I love these vids, the format of investigative journalism is really gripping. Its like a unique chopped up interesting let's play
Great work as always.
Dear Oxhorn,I am a fan of the Legion in New Vegas. I love there lore and RPing as a Praetorian in Gmod RP is one of the funnest things ever. I was wondering if you could do more Legion Videos in the future that would be much appreciated! I haven't played through the whole game yet so I don't know if there is much to do with the Legion but if you could do more videos on them it would be great!
Thanks!

It'll never happen, but I hope Van Buren eventually sees a release. They'll have to change a lot, but a prequel to New Vegas could be killer.
My favorite part about Silver Rush is that you can drag all of the weapons on display in the bathroom, steal them behind the closed door, sell them back to Van Graffs and walk away with good deal of early game caps
Finally. Thanks for this Ox!
I love how in the last clip in the sewers, you can still hear the mysterious stranger theme over the music lol
Boy finally...
Hey... what you lookin' at??
I like the rain storm. adds so much atmosphere
Fun fact, there's a few mods that can restore a little bit of cut content here and there, most notably the Unofficial New Vegas Patch. Upon entry to the Silver Rush, the meeting goes as usual-- However, instead of the victim of the execution being kneeled out in the open, he's instead brought out in response to Soren's demand. The command to do so happens after Gloria excuses herself from the conversation, before explaining the man's transgressions. She says that he was a Van Graff guard, but had been caught embezzling money from the company. Jean-Baptiste opens fire, and the scene ends as it usually does. I'd recommend checking it out, since it makes the scene much more menacing, and gives it a little more narrative "oomph".
It's funny, Simon says he prefers laser weapons, but uses a plasma rifle!
Anthony Cooper the Van Graffs made him use a plasma rifle
Can you do a video on Ed e
Thanks oxhorn! I've just managed to get to freeside, and i've actually wondered about them. Absolutly perfect timing.
