Yeah i only know him from this podcast but he seems pretty level headed and somewhat intelligent. It seems to be a political. Im generally a Republican but it seems like most conservatives are really butthurt over him.
Recovered Gamer I mean he was like bashing Trump for like an hour and couldn't find a single positive thing to say about him and defended everyone else who has done wrong. It was very bias
I love JRE's comment section, because there are so many different kinds of people here. I think a majority of us have no idea what we're talking about, but at least we're able to talk without vilifying eachother. Most of the time.
The thing his detractors hate the most is his track record of demolishing all the bullshit they stand for. Hence the termites coming out to bitch about the exterminator.
The haters also detest that liberals have a mightier "intellectual star" than their top conservative guys - a liberal who could analyse and slay the hell outta them. While I agree with a ton of concepts folks like Ben Shapiro preach, and he's got them correct, there are plenty he's way off on. Folks like Harris are dead-on 99.9% of the time, and it irks the haters who know their stars (when you get down to it) are still tainted by the myth of religion and some fallacy of dictated celestial totalitarian morality and rules. Sorry folks, we're just organic animals, nobody is at the wheel, and we're just making the rules as we go along. Including "morals". Hitch was another juggernaut on the liberal side (RIP). Also clearly note - I say LIBERAL - not leftist.
+Abandoned Mines Nova Scotia The problem with that though is that Sam has arguably demonstrated he is a leftist and not a liberal when it comes to politics. He basically advocated for Hillary Clinton - the least liberal candidate in the running. She is conservative as fuck, she just pretends to support the "progressive" issues of the day to garner support. She actually opposes gay marriage, as recently as 2012. As well as that she believes in holding a "public" opinion and a separate "private" opinion. Yet he still thinks Trump is a worse alternative. After everything Hillary has DONE which resulted in failure, cost to the taxpayer and DEATH (see: Libyan revolution) it baffles me how anyone can say Trump is worse because of things he has SAID and suspicions they have. I can't understand how orchestrating the downfall of Gaddafi and creating the power vacuum which allowed ISIS to come into being is not as bad as Trumps poor business decisions and false advertising. His fuck ups have cost people money. Hillary's have cost lives in the thousands, at the least. Yet Sam saw her as the better candidate. That's one big reason he gets a LOT of hate. I can understand that. I don't feel that way about him, but I think it makes sense that others do.
Ben Shapiro is not 'smart,' he's just not a buffoon like other douchebags like Erick Erickson. He's a Harvard law graduate in his early 30s, slightly younger than me, who posts retweets of himself w/thug life parodies. All he does is parrot standard corporate propaganda while talking out of both sides of his mouth on amnesty, Piers Morgan didn't understand American gun laws all that well but I noticed Shapiro made MANY mistakes in that 'pwnage' that Piers just didn't pick up on. Most of the 'right wingers' who are true intellectuals are so 'bizarre' they are hidden. Doug Casey is a heavyweight on economics but he's not going to lie to you about the military-industrial complex so they hide him. Unfortunately so many who could be smart like Cernovich are trying to get attention they play footsy with conspiracy theories and subtle bigotry that it bites them when they get big. Milo is way smarter than he usually let on but his shit talking carelessness when he was small time bit him in the ass big time so he'll never have the legitimacy to be taken seriously.
Wow, Joe Rogan really asks the best questions! The mental journey these podcasts take me on each time I listen is just... awesome. Super fascinating, interesting and intelligent! Thank you!
You know as someone who has been a JRE fan since the beginning. I think it's a mix of liking Joe, and being wired with the same kind of curiosity as him.
his privately confessed belief in "race realism" was recently exposed by hate group expert christian picciolini he's a credulous fool, a dangerous polemicist, and yet still somehow a wet blanket
That's not what "race realism" means. "Race realism" means backing up white supremacy with pseudoscientific rhetoric. The edgy username (combining references to Ayn Rand with references to urogenital colloquialism), intellectually dishonest framing, and jargon combined with poor grammar suggests to me that you're probably one of those race realists trying to normalize the idea by misrepresenting it in the most moderate terms possible. You might fool others, but you can fuck right off away from me. (link for those prone to credulity and naive good faith in the face of appeals like that of "Galt's Gooch", to demonstrate that race realism is a synonym for scientific racism and is well characterized by the terms I used and misrepresented by him: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_racism)
What does Ham Sarris NOT know ? Cuz he always says he’s not the expert on something then he speaks on it for like 30 minutes no matter what IT is & he sounds legitimate. He’s an interesting dude.
Same... and it was 100 percent a reaction to drugs, nothing illicit, just some over the counter mucinex. I was choking on my own panic.. couldn't swallow which then convinced me I couldn't breathe, only thing that snapped me out of it was screaming which brought my roommate into my room who was able to get me to slowly start breathing again. So incredibly frighteningly powerless. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy
Agreed, terrifying experience. But consider, if you enjoy roller coasters. You are paying to be freaked the fuck out. The point is, you realize its just a ride, so theres no immediate danger. I have at least 2 panic attacks a week, which is an improvement . I used to have 1 a day. Today has been a rather shitty day, feeling like my heart could beat out of my chest.
@Howard Maxw ; I had a bad experience coming down off of a heroin drip from an ACL replacement... I couldn't sit or stand...couldn't concentrate, felt like I wasn't there...as the other commentors said, scary as fuck....
Spongeofdoom yes I miss Hitch so much. That voice and his cheeky wit, on his worst day he could best those that tried their hardest. Every time I visit Oxford to pick up some more books I think of him, a seriously handsome and charismatic chap with an interesting mind.
Zaria, exactly! I am watching this and am around 1 hour mark and no one has mentioned trump yet but a lot of comments are bashing Sam for being obsessed with Trump.
well his material does not necessarily have to be sugar-coated, although I don't view eloquent use of language as mere sugar-coating, his "things to say" don't require eloquence. I however do, with such phrasing
@@warbler1984 Clearly you haven't been paying attention. That has been proven and admitted to. That was the reason the FBI submitted FISA warrants they knew to be lies. That administration also conspired to set up Gen. Flynn because they were terrified he would uncover what was being done and that certainly backfired. I can tell you as a 30 year criminal investigator that what has been going on since even before Trump won is very obvious. They didn't expect Trump to win but as FBI agent Peter Strzok in a text "We need an insurance policy" and they had one. This will go down in history as the biggest political scandal the US ever had. Jamie, Sam Harris has launched an app called waking up, I found it really helpful for me to understand the process. It goes into a lot of detail but it’s short and concise , bypasses a lot of the flowery stuff
Question for Trump supporters (and for that matter, Hillary supporters, or any politician): Is it possible for someone to be against your favorite candidate while not being wrong or an idiot?
Yes. I believe you could be against Trump and not be a complete idiot, but the moment you choose a shill like Hillary or a socialist like Bernie - You become a complete idiot.
Yes it is possible for someone to be pushing a false agenda or be entirely uneducated on anything outside of their one isolated field of expertise and still have an above average IQ as Sam displays every time he talks about politics.
Trump wants America to be the land of opportunity, but is likely ill-equipped to make that happen. Bernie wants America to be the land of handouts until it collapses, and is intelligent enough to succeed given the chance. Given those options, Trump is better.
I love Sam, but I wish they didn't talk about Trump for 80% of this podcast. Not that I disagree with Sam at all, he just has so much more interesting stuff to talk about.
The point is sam is wrong we needed trump to switch shit up he wont take your shit people hate that ....but he is a whole lot better than a fucking clinton plus he didnt talk about that much about trump ........

it's never been a matter of "if" but a matter of "when", and pretty much every scientist in the field knew nations were not prepared. Dr Hannah Fry in "Contagion! The BBC Four Pandemic" (2018 documentary) made it very clear and tried to alert us.
@@sidarthur8706 there were potential pandemic threats in the last 10 or so years with ebola, Zika virus, or even the first instance of SARS-CoV. They just luckily didn't pan out. Current COVID-19 however did. So yeah, like the other commenter said, it's not a matter of "if" but "when".

@@ihatesignupsgrrrrrrr Democrats think the federal government should run as a democracy and control the entire country's policies on mask wearing, curfews and social distancing, while Republicans usually think the country should run as a republic and leave the states to control their states. This would leave me to think people saying Trump handles it poorly wanted a nationwide order where people in Alaska follow the same guidelines as people in NYC. I personally lean Republican on this issue and I don't really understand why people say he is handling this so poorly. Any other reasons? I know Biden criticized Trump for stopping travel to and from China at first and heard we would have 2 million casualties if this was not done. As far as I'm concerned it is the governments job to keep us safe on an international level but states should be implementing their own polocies. I live in SC and MA, two different worlds. SC was very open, very few restrictions, no mandatory masks, just suggestions to follow. MA on the other hand is very strict with curfews, mask wearing, being in groups and if you travel out of New England you have to self quarantine for two weeks, or be FINED per work day... I'm staying in SC this year..

I have a lot of experience with SSRIs. My experience is that they help with anxiety but do nothing for depression. In summary, they make a glass floor below which you feel nothing. They were presented to me as a stabiliser. In my experience, they help, but not that much

@Jeep Girl you need a dose of reality. Yes. Documents have been produced and testimonies have been made under oath, including the testimony of then-FBI director James Comey that the FBI was conducting an investigation into Russian collision with the Trump campaign during the summer of 2016 and not only was Obama aware of this but Comey was updating him directly about the investigation daily. Comey also said that wirr taps aren't where it stopped. The FBI sent undercover operatives into Trump campaign meeting that were wearing a wire. And yes. Obama knew about.. Comey went on to further say that not only did he inform Obama in a face-to-face meeting in december 2016 that the Steele Dossier was unreliable and that the early conclusions suggested already there was in fact NO COLLUSION. But, not only did Obama order that the investigation was to continue, he submitted a request in writing to the NSS to unmask Michael Quinn. So did Joe Biden and Susan Rice. Obama was the very first person to be caught using FISA to illegally spy on Americans. Not only that, he was doing so against an incoming president who'd already lawfully won the election. Susan Rice also corroborated a good deal of this. Just because you don't want it to be true does not mean that Operation Crossfire Hurricane real, but it was ran directly by Barack Obama. And when you lump all of that together with Obama gate and everything else we've learned, you'll discover quickly that Obama was possibly the dirtiest president we've ever had. THESE ARE ALL FACTS. THEY ARE TRUE. THEY ARE UNDENIABLE. THEY ARE ON THE RECORD. AND YOU CAN NOT LIKE THAT ALL YOU WANT.
@Jeep Girl if you're still electing politicians because of the promises they make on the campaign trail then you're the reason why voter registration should require an IQ test. A campaigning politician is the equivalent of a 15 year old boy trying to get a piece of ass from his girlfriend. Hell say anything to talk you into it and then act like he never said it when it's over. I vote for them based on the shit I believe they'll actually do in office. Not what they say they'll do. And speaking of campaign promises, I tend to remember that the revered Obama promised to withdraw from the middle east during his campaign. Not only did he not keep that promise, he ended up ordering more missile strikes than any president ever had. Considering the president before him was at war his entire presidency, that's saying something.
Thank you, Dan, for reminding us of the importance of viewing events through the lens of very long-term history. This can provide a more accurate and realistic picture of what's going on, the context of the natural world we live within, the normative features of human nature, and what can be done to improve living and social conditions.
It's funny how they spoke about Trump making a emotional decision yet here we are 4 days later and he's bombed Syria after zero evidence that they even dropped chemical weapons. It was disproved in 2013 and it'll be disproved again. #FalseFlag #Syriahoax
Tiffany Lee I'm retired now 3 years. I was a school principal and survived those years thanks to meditation .Since retiring I have become addicted to my phone as they spoke about here. I've become obsessed with world news and a hatred for Trump. But now I've realised how badly I need to return to mindful meditation. It's my first task for this morning.
Sam was totally right about trolls and talking to people on twitter. The criticism from Joe and Dan was patronizing. They aren't admitting that the people he engages with have influence, and if Sam doesn't admit to their influence and act on its existence, it will grow at the cost of his own. This is what the marketplace of ideas is supposed to run on, credible people with good ideas exposing sloppy thinking and bad ideas. You have no right to complain when bad ideas you ignored manifest themselves in the world you occupy.
I had something close to a panic attack once in med school in the middle of a lecture being given by some big shot ortho dude that was being recorded to be viewed publicly by everyone of my classmates. He was about to ask me a question and I was afraid I wouldn't have a good response, so my whole body started shaking uncontrollably. I was deeply afraid and fascinated simultaneously because I had never experienced fear on that level before. I did my best to mask my fear and when he got to me I did in fact provide an intelligent response even though it wasn't the answer he was looking for. Still, it felt like I had escaped a public hanging.
Most traffic deaths are actually innocent bystanders and the people causing the accidents are drunk drivers or people who don't pay attention due to texting, but they tend to survive for some fucked up reason.
Joe is actually really amazing at impressions. When he slipped into Alex Jones at 2:09:39, I actually had to stop what I was doing to see if they were playing an audio clip. Lol
I'm convinced the elightened feeling after a psychedelic journey is a positive spin on PTSD. When faced with extreme stress and worldview-destroying information, the ego takes a vacation and you experience depersonalization and derealization. An out of body experience, ego death. I imagine this is how guys like Jocko Willink navigate through insanely high cost situations of warfare. Jocko preaches that you have to "dissociate" from the self in these situations to operate effectively. When faced with the prospect of imminent death the mind reverts to a blank slate (ego death) that pours all resources into processing information and reacting with extreme frequency and intensity (this can slow time perception to a halt). In the psychedelic realm this stress response can be an inappropriate overreaction and make you freak out. The brain is thrown so far out of homeostasis that it thinks its dying. I think this can be a useful state of mind but there can be lasting psychological repercussions (there is no biological free lunch). For instance a man who sees the atrocities of war might gain new insight and be better for it, and a man who takes a heroic dose and has worldview-shattering experiences might be as well. But there is the other side of the coin: the veteran who cannot reintegrate, and the psychonaut who has "seen too much". My point is that just like you would think twice before enlisting in the army, be responsible before you take a serious dose of psychedelics. You can probe all kinds of dark corners of your mind. And I know we're trying to destroy the negative stigma because they can do a lot of good for people, but I think the dialogue has gotten a bit naive and one sided.
The following is a list of people who I'd like to hear you interview: Daniel Amen (Lives and works in LA, leading researcher on ADHD and other neurological disorders. Some great irony in how Sam has uses his own voice when listening to his meditation ap to bring him back to a mindful state. The same state in which he is actively trying to tune out that same (inner) voice.
Other than a general knowledge and what can be learned through Waking Up, the book and podcast, you're absolutely right. I think you are missing the point. Part of the objective of mindful meditation is focus on the present, and to reset your mind to the present whenever your inner voice, the free flow of thoughts, creep back into your head. The advantage of a meditation podcasts is having that reminder. The irony here is that Sam uses his own prerecorded voice to help focus is attention away from his other voice, his inner voice (the conscious free flow of thought).
Some Mass Sam Harris kinda missed the point of meditation considering that he's anti-religion, meanwhile meditation originated from Hinduism (as does atheism); one of the oldest religions known to man
That it originated from Hinduism is irrelevant. You can practice meditation without accepting the supernatural claims in Hinduism. Just they way we can use Newtonian mechanics without accepting alchemy.
Some Mass hinduism is not ONLY a religion based around mythology like you think... it is also the culmination of philosophy, science, medical practices and mathematics. Even the atheist philosopher Frederick Schopenhauer agreed that hinduism was one of the most brilliant religions in the fact that hindus accept all beliefs in terms of atheism, agnosticism, monotheism and polytheism, and he also applauded their contributions to the advancement of both science and mathematics... so regardless of what you or Sam might think of the religion, why you shittin' on the blocks that layed our foundation? Sam talks about the benefits of meditation and yoga, but then he turns around and basically insults the very root of those (and many other) great things. That's either ignorant or disrespectful, and beyond that; I've also heard him say that black lives matter is akin to "celebrating thug culture"... Again, a simple sign of either ignorance or just plain disrespect. I could go on too, but you might complain this message is too long.
Sam stresses me out sometimes because I agree with him on so many things and other times - I totally disagree. I don’t know how anyone could take the mainstream media as serious/truthful journalism...the fricken networks literally use the colors of the party they support in their networks logos/graphic templates etc. Also he really seems to have a left bias here that I don’t think he has as much of anymore. His brother seems more rational in this podcast.
Can you imagine if Joe had Alex Jones and Sam Harris on at the same time?! It would probably rip a hole in the space time continuum.

It was very bias
ahh so bias to you means doesn't line up with your view...
I love JRE's comment section, because there are so many different kinds of people here. I think a majority of us have no idea what we're talking about, but at least we're able to talk without vilifying eachother. Most of the time.

He would give another interesting angle to the conversation, for sure.

BEST COMMENT!
lol so many haters, Sam is the shit, one of the best guests ever on the podcast.
+Abandoned Mines Nova Scotia
The problem with that though is that Sam has arguably demonstrated he is a leftist and not a liberal when it comes to politics.
Fenix NoT wait, is progressive not leftist anymore?
Thank you!

Sam Harris is an absolute legend. I support his podcast. One of the most important voices of our time.
Bo Stanford word.
his privately confessed belief in "race realism" was recently exposed by hate group expert christian picciolini
he's a credulous fool, a dangerous polemicist, and yet still somehow a wet blanket

Yeah, intense.

I saw your comment and searched for Trump actually having been surveilled but couldn't find any genuine evidence
Question for Trump supporters (and for that matter, Hillary supporters, or any politician):
Is it possible for someone to be against your favorite candidate while not being wrong or an idiot?
Yes. I believe you could be against Trump and not be a complete idiot, but the moment you choose a shill like Hillary or a socialist like Bernie - You become a complete idiot.
WasatchMan Somehow choosing a narcissistic incompetent reality star is better? Enjoy breathing dirt, I guess.
If you honestly believe that Trump is in any sense of the word better then Bernie Sanders for the USA or it's people then there is no hope for you.

@1:34:49 "... He lies about everything! He lied about Obama wiretapping him!..."
That one didn't age so well.
#FalseFlag #Syriahoax
massive respect to Dan Harris
sam harris's smile makes me smile
loved this one! especially when you all talked about meditation
I really enjoyed this conversation, thanks Joe!
Joe, you’re weirded out by life in 2017? Just wait til March 2020.
Great guests. Thank you Joe Rogan, Sam Harris and Dan Harris.
Sam Harris has got to learn that you never say your trolls name. It grows in size 10 fold.
Sam Harris for President.
Er no thanks.
why ?
lol he'd raise a shit ton of money and go down in flames
I'd support him
why?
In which Dan and Sam try for 3 hours to talk about meditation only to have joe change the subject and finally giving them 5 minutes at the end.
As someone who loves Jesus, I also love Joe and Sam, they are incredibly refreshing to me in a world of masks.
Who’s Jesus?
this podcast could have gone another 2 hours I wouldn't have minded
I hope the guy that built the A-Bomb lived long enough to see that it saved infinitely more lives than it took.
Jesus that sounds so surreal that it's happening to you and simultaneously are aware of what is happening
What an awesome conversation. Love the format. We need a lot more of this everywhere.
I just don't get Sam's complete defense of mainstream media and non Trump government.
What a delight! Sam's the man. And Dan seems to be a pretty chill dude!
Way to go, Joey! Great podcast.
1:34:34 Obama did wiretap him. But people just forget this.
People forgot because the evidence that Trump "CLAIMED" to have and "PROMISED" to show, never came came to light. His BLUFF was called ! LOL
@@moodyrick8503 it's shown now. Doh!
@@renadamTWELVE Sorry, but I didn't know that Obama had been charged. LOL
Lol
Best line - “we’re gonna show up to their compounds with AR-15’s & pitch forks” 😂
The problem with them being wrong about WMDs is that they are the fukin government and can't be destroying other countries on wrong information

Sam Harris meditation app is 10 minute clips of him whining about Trump.
This is the best JRE ever.
I had actually never heard of Sam Harris before....dig the fuck out of him now.
Alicia Snavely it's because you're a Jew
Skiller Cruz most definitely not
Some great irony in how Sam has uses his own voice when listening to his meditation ap to bring him back to a mindful state. The same state in which he is actively trying to tune out that same (inner) voice.
You obviously don't understand the basics of meditation.
I don’t know how anyone could take the mainstream media as
serious/truthful journalism...the fricken networks literally use the colors of the party they support in their networks logos/graphic templates etc. Also he really seems to have a left bias here that I don’t think he has as much of anymore. His brother seems more rational in this podcast.
Dan Harris explains meditation perfectly 2:39:00. Such a great talk here between these guys.
