Amrep ASL Collecting Litter Bins (36163)

Finally found one of the show trucks' regular routes. Funny thing is it's just a few miles down the road from me, despite it being an East Valley truck. It collects the "ALBs" (automated litter bins) in Venice on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays now, and I believe West LA still takes care of them on Sundays. The city recently got more funding for this program, so now there are ALBs all over the city and tons more in Venice than there were when I filmed here two years ago. The new ones they've plopped down are made by Toter and not Rehrig, and are miles better since the truck can actually get a grip on them. They've also stopped keeping "recycling" separate which frankly I'm happy to see since it makes way more sense than sending two trucks through here to collect the exact same materials just in different colored containers. Anyways, seeing this truck here is actually pretty cool because it's the first mini HX450 to touch LA's Westside as well as the only LNG truck in the area (out of all haulers, not just LA). Everything else is CNG and diesel. This truck was also the first mini HX450 purchased by the city, and I believe the first standard production one (hence its name being "1st off the Line"). It was shown at Waste Expo 2012 and was actually the inspiration for Marin Sanitary Service's Amrep patronage.

Lol it's cool that you filmed 163 after wanting it for a long time. I like how this show truck is all dirty now. These new PLRs are cool and I like the design. BTW 178 doesn't do PLRS in my area now its been put on regular trash, a CNG Octo Mini does the PLRs now. Nice video Tony!

It's because people in the streets dump whatever in these receptables. Therefore it's all mixed so it's mostly garbage, therefore one truck does everything.
