- This week we wanted to put 2 entry level machines against each other. We took the old Minelab Vanquish 340 and the Quest X5 out, Both amazing machines to be fair, the Quest has rechargable batteries and a pinpoint function and comes in at £169 so thats a lot of detector for that money and the Minelab Vanquish comes in at £230, although it does not come with recgargable batteries of a pinpont function on this model it does come with Minelabes Multi IQ that the Equinox detectors use so makes it very stable on most lands.
Over all we think that the Minelab Vanquish wes our better machine due to its clean tones and being super stable even with them deeper targets but the Quest did do well with them targets that were not deeper than say 6inch and because of some of its other features it does make it a worthy entry level machine.

Nice to go back to where you started.. The 340 was my first machine, found some amazing things with it.. kept it as a back up too, or for friends to use. 😀

I have a set of rechargeable batteries too so that's not an issue. It's just a shame it doesn't have wireless headphones. Definitely good as a back up or to take on holiday. 😀

The 340 will hands down win on the beach. Perfectly silent on the wet sand and goes really deep in the sand
Yes the vanquish is a good machine on the beach ⛱️ but I have heard people say the quest is also? I guess we will find out soon :-) cheers for watching matey 👍

Agreed..I have worked them both alot now, they're comparable except the v small things the Vanquish has the edge in depth. The real benefits of the Quest are it's low weight (Vanquish is heavy) rainproofedness and incredible battery life. Otherwise Vanquish would win outright price for price, less falsing, less interference, I find I'm shifting f band to stabilise too much on the Quest

Quest looks a lot more robust than the vanquish. Nice little unit on it. Nice informative vid. 👨🏻🦯👌🏻

Bought my brother the Quest X10 which is an excellent wee machine. Ground balance etc. Finds some deep targets too. Not sure on the X5 but definitely good entry level detectors. The Vanquish seems to do really well and Flint Eastwood would vouch for it (Norfolk Button Boy's buddy). Great video and considered the newbies👏

Great that there are several machines as options in this price range. Based upon performance the 340 looks like the clear winner here. Will be interesting to see if the 340 can maintain superiority on beaches?

I`ve had both and the quest doesnt come close to the 340
I do love the vanquish but that might be because I'm a equinox user as my main machine

Hey did you ever do a beach test for the x5?
Want to purchase a detector for my 11 year old son and his dad to use but we live on the North Wales coastline so will use it at the beach more than anywhere else. Just want to decide if the x5 is the best option for him. Could stretch to the x10 or Vanquish 340 however looks like the quest may be better starter set what with being waterproof etc so maybe more robust for him.
We have taken it on the beach, but because it didn't do very well on the wet sands we couldn't get a video out with it :-( if beach detecting is what you are thinking about, then I would say the best detector would be the vanquish 340 :-) LP do a great starter kit here

Not bought a detector yet was looking at dr. Otek but now looking at the simplex ones are these better than simolex?
Simplex is a lot better than the otek mate :-)
@@TheMetalDetectingChanneldefinitely not going with Dr otek. So between simplex ultra - x terra pro - vanquish 440.....which one? Will be my first detector no huge plans for underwater stuff but will be out in rain mostly chalky flinty ground and some woodland.

Simple to use and wel respected even with the guys that have been in the hobby for ages. Also the multi frequency will let you detect the beach as well. The vanquish 340 is also a great machines and cheaper .
