    though I had some problem with sea water It also ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxa-FNYUOM93a388gi9a4brtSCEVmrHgJH land for finding any things very easily. (thought it would work as normal due to it being water proof within certain parts of the detector), on dry land and sand worked well. My first one, so still have lots to learn

    My son and I started off on our detecting hobby with the 340 and 540. We are extremely happy with both of them. We are basically beach hunters and have only searched parks a few times but still had no problems digging up coins from various depths in the land.
    The only issue we have is that the Vanquish series is not water proof, so that limited our searches in any type of water.
    A few months back I purchased an X-terra pro for myself and passed my old 540 to my son. Our 340 is for family when they might want to tag along.

    A couple was in FLA for their 50th anniversary. He hunted the beach. Found a wedding band. Checking the inscription. Found that it was the one he'd lost playing in the surf. Thirty years earlier. True story.

      I am tracking my UPS for a Monday July 1 delivery. I am headed to a Texas beach for morning and evening detecting 4th-7th. The 540 is what I am banking on. My Ace just is not dealing with the wet sand. I have an 8:1 ratio of digging false signals to an actual target.

      I am looking to buy my first metal detector that I want to use for gold prospecting and treasure hunting. I have the opportunity to buy an X-Terra 705 for $169 or a Vanquish 440 for $349 here locally. What are your thoughts on that for a first detector? I have been advised to save more money and buy an Equinox 800, but it is considerably more expensive even second hand. Not much work lately so I am on a fairly tight budget and still considering the 440?

    I received a Garrett 300 as a gift and absolutely loved the machine. When I went to the beach however, it did great on parking areas and dry sand but as expected, it really struggled in wet sand. I was able to pick up a 540 and honestly, I cannot imagine needing much if anything else. Ease of use, dependable and a pleasure to use, it makes this hobby even better

    I havent given up my Equinox, but I did buy a Vanguish 540 propack anyway as I thought it would be a good backup for my Equinox and I wanted the different coil sizes and configurations that the Vanquish offers. I LOVE IT! It is exactly like a non waterproof Equinox. Same tones, same Id's, so it was an easy transition for me. I use the Vanquish on lake beaches and tot lots, vollyball courts and so on usually with the 9" coil. Wont be selling my Equinox, but wont be selling the Vanquish either, both are EXCELLENT detectors.

    The Vanquish 340 I got cheap on an open box deal is the most amazing detector I`ve ever used. I wish I lived near a beach but I`m now 100% confident I can once again find silver coins. I`ve found a lot of rings before on freshwater beaches when I lived on Toledo Bend Lake on the LA/TX border with a much less capable machine that cost more. My 340 hits on very tiny targets and even detects the 177 caliber BB in my foot! 13 inches on a nickel in air tests with a 10x7 coil is incredible and I`ve seen videos of them hitting silver dimes in the ground at least 9 inches deep! To me these are perfect for the type of detecting I do in rural areas. PS: Gigmaster has had multiple Equinoxes leak.

    • @mowerdog
      @mowerdog  2 роки тому +3

      I figured it was a good time to sell my 800 because it had some warranty left. The only thing I hate about the Vanquish machines is........Now beginners can afford a high performance detector and are easily reaching and hitting silver usually left for higher priced machines with experienced operators.

    It's good to hear another perspective. We all have different priorities and that's why their are so many different products on the market. I started out with a Vanquish 440 and upgraded to the NOX 800 about 6 months ago. I still have the 440 but haven't ever considered going back to it. The NOX just seems to have better discrimination and target separation, plus I don't dig up so much junk with the NOX. I can change the tone settings on the NOX to separate targets which I can't do with the Vanquish and the biggest thing... the NOX has a gold setting.

    I bought the 540 Pro pack and an Ace Apex and I love both machines. The Simplex I wasn't too impressed with. Mine was really chatty and no matter where I was or what I did I couldn't get it to quiet down enough to tell if I was over a target or not so I returned it. I wanted to like it, but maybe I got a bad one I dunno. I am very happy with the the other 2 though. I will also say this, I had an equinox 800 as well and it was a great machine, but I swear to you my vanquish seems to hit deeper targets than the nox did. I never hunt fully submerged so I sold the nox and bought the 2 I have now. Best fully waterproof detector I have ever owned was a Quest Q30. Thing was a beast in the wet and even a really awesome dry detector as well and you can buy one for $300 new. Quests are very underrated here in the states. They even have a new x10 Pro that is $200 and it is crazy good for the price. Also water proof.

    I`m always very careful about covering every inch in front of me with coil swings. My detector was stolen years ago and 6 years ago I received a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 202 for Christmas. It was so much fun hunting my sister`s yard and finding coins and toy cars again. Then I tested it along the driveway and found a very worn Walking Liberty half dollar. Couldn`t believe it. Without a lot of practice with my Vanquish I`m not sure if I could have found the same coins there because the two times I tested it in her yard I was overwhelmed with endless signals.
    So I collected a bunch of very very tiny pieces of metal and tested it and saw why. It`s the most sensitive detector I`ve ever used. The Bounty Hunter simply doesn`t see all those tiny targets and falses much less on iron. I did get several signals in the silver coin range with the Vanquish but didn`t dig anything because I was waiting to receive a pinpointer. Now my nephew next door there has a dog that never stops barking so I haven`t returned. Gonna do some hunting in the woods and old gardens/fields/creeks with the Vanquish when I move in a couple months.

      @mowerdog  2 роки тому +2

      I started skipping #1 & 2 because half the targets I couldn't see. That may make it better?

    • @baneverything5580
      @baneverything5580 2 роки тому

      @@mowerdog Yeah, I was running it full blast in all metal mode just to see what would happen. The entire yard was a big beep. I was pulling the coil up several feet off the ground on some targets and it was still hitting them. It`s a very old home site there. Back in the 1970s finding silver was easy. By the mid 1990s it started getting hard to find. I`m gonna start hunting old dump sites in the woods for relics and bottles. Kids destroying property have nearly killed metal detecting in my area. We aren`t allowed to go near the old swimming holes or even boat landings anymore. Gates went up everywhere. I hope to get permission to hunt my grandfather`s old home site in the future. I found an 18k gold ring and several dollars in silver coins there with an old Whites detector in the late 1970s. I was young and didn`t know how to set the machine because we got it used.

The Equinox leaked on me too. So I couldn't use it for what it was built for. So I figured if I couldn't take it in the water I might as well use a Vanquish. I still think my etrac is miles ahead of the machines today. But the smart screen on the Manticore has me very interested.

I started detecting in the 1970s with a very heavy Whites Coinmaster and the 340 is a technology miracle.
      I got the silver bug recently while testing a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 202 I received for Christmas in my sister`s yard and finding a silver half dollar. It`s a perfect detector for a beginner and extremely effective for finding shallow clad and gold rings. Target ID on coins on Bounty Hunters is perfect and to find rings dig all pull tabs and nickels.
      On a Bounty Hunter I had in the 90s screw caps on the target ID were very large 14k men`s rings and medium and small showed up as pull tab or nickel. I found a lot of rings with the very similar 90s detector. I found three very nice 14k rings one day on a freshwater beach in just over 30 minutes one day. My best day ever, plus I found 18k gold rim glasses and a 14k earring that day.

      I'm torn on what to advise. I bought the 540 pro pack that came with the 8 and 12 inch coils. For general hunting I found the 8 was too small and 12 too big. I bought a 10 inch coil and it's perfect for all my hunting. I don't take it off. The 440 already comes with the 10 inch coil so that will save you $120. I was more interested in the 540's backlight and more adjustable notches. I don't think you made a mistake in buying the 440. In a perfect world you would be able to chose any coil you want on a detector purchase. If you hunt at night and like to make custom discrimination patterns then you will like the 540 better. But you may find you'll want the 10 coil like me and have to pay more. I guess you could buy the 540 and take the 10" coil off the 440 and exchange it for the 12" coil and sell the 540 as new with the big coil?

    The Simplex lacks the depth of the Vanquish due to its smaller 11 inch coil so the the Vanquish has an edge in mineralized soil and separating targets due to its oval DD configuration, but for me I'd rather invest in a different coil for the Simplex than having to live with the annoying slot machine flute sounds and kids toy look of the Vanquish. The Vanquish also has a very noticeable delay in processing speed making it difficult to pinpoint objects similar to the Garrett models making the Simplex a strong contender at any price.

    I see you have the lithium pack. Did you ever use rechargeables. I have some I use on detectors. Never heard how long aa batts last or rechargeable aa

      I used to run them but found out alkaline's lasted longer. I got tired of removing the batteries to charge them. These RNB batteries run forever and can be charged without removing it on the vanquish. I have a RNB battery for my etrac and it's the best accessories I've ever purchased for it.

    I checked those headphones and I see they list them as AptX but it doesn’t say low latency. There is AptX and AptX HD but they aren’t low latency. They will work but you may be off a bit when pinpointing due to the delay. Does it say low latency somewhere in the Amazon listing that I missed? I’m not seeing it. Thanks

    do you think the nokta double score might be better then the vanquish 540

    • @mowerdog
      @mowerdog  7 місяців тому +1

      Right now I'm comparing the Double Score with the Manticore with videos coming soon. Initially the short answer right now is to get the Double Score. Or wait a week for my first video to come out.

    Bought a 540 cheap used it once! The audio response is awful... like a kiddy cheap toy.. promtly sold it .. made 90£ or 115$ profit...thou... going to buy a used Etrac...

    • @mowerdog
      @mowerdog  Рік тому +1

      Yes, the etrac is still up there with the new "top dog" machines. If ML comes out with an updated etrac, my Manticore will be sold.

    Question your sand scoop does it come all in one piece or do you have to asemble? Is it anti rust? Or heavy or lightweight? I'm looking for one one piece solid. What brand do you have? Thanks. I like the vanquish 540.

    • @mowerdog
      @mowerdog  Рік тому +1

      It's a 6.5 inch T-rex scoop. It is one piece welded. You just need to buy a handle. I have tried a lot of scoops and this one has been the best. amzn.to/3F49vcq

    You just about got me sold on the 540. So you like the 10 inch n 12 inch coil better then the 8 inch coil. What size do you use on the beach, and what about a big field? Would the 12 inch coil be better?

    • @mowerdog
      @mowerdog  Рік тому +1

      On the beaches I mostly use the 12 coil. But I remove the skid because it fills with water and sand and gets heavy. All other hunting is the 10 inch coil. I hardly use the 8 inch anymore.
