James Tull was my father. In December of 1973 he was electrocuted with 169,000 volts for 18 seconds and lived. He worked 33 years for the power company after that. Every time I hear this song I think of my daddy.
I had the priviledge of seeing them perform this live in Tennessee last year. This song always reminded me of my old man. One of the best linemen in the country. Still on the line
This was recorded 2 days after Glen Campbell died, one of the best singers of this song. This is a great tribute by G&R. Axl sounds great, as do Slash, Duff and the boys! Cool shit
This performance was breathtaking. To take on one of the greatest song by perhaps the greatest american musician speaks to the skill and talent of axel and guns
The best version of this song you will ever hear is from the band called "a girl named Tom" on The Voice look it up on UA-cam you will not be sorry! Their harmonies will blow your mind.
This is one of my favorite sings. I was afraid that the notes might be beyond Axl’s range, now. But, boy - he nailed it. And, I always thought Slash’s Spanish-guitar influence would fit this song perfectly - and, it did. I’d love to hear an entire album of Jimmy Webb covers by G ‘n R.
You've probably heard this Carol, but I'll shoot you the link anyway. This is Jimmy Webb ( who wrote the song). It's my favourite version. REM do a cool version too, it's also on UA-cam. Cheers- you have good taste in music! ua-cam.com/video/4LdtbAFqdsI/v-deo.html
Well, for heavens sake !!!! What a wonderful job Axl did with this song !!! Should be proud of himself!!! But then again, Axl always seems to do anything he sets his mind to !!!!!
I think Axl's voice changed with age in a way that it doesn't even suit his own songs very well anymore, but then with covers like this he proves he's still got it, but maybe his older self is just better with a different genre, something softer just like this which he performed incredibly well!
Wow. I wasn't sure what to expect but whatever it was, I was pleasantly surprised. They did such a NICE job and Axl's voice sounds great. I love that he added a few nuances that made it his own but still respected the soul of the original arrangement. Beautiful.
Did. Not. See. This. Coming. GNR covering Whichita Lineman and knocking it out of the park? Much respect to Axel and company for paying tribute to one of the best musicians ever! RIP Glenn Campbell.
@@timsanderson5572 Fun fact, Glen plays the solo on a Bass VI, a six string guitar one octave down from a normal guitar but still tuned E to E. He used a Danelectro Bass 6 in the studio and a Fender Bass 6 in the video.
So cool! Gnr has always been my band...my mom used to play Glen Campbell in the car...now she listens to this with me and loves it!!! Lol...got my 70+ y/o mom to be a guns fan after all😁😁 she loves them all now lol
I love this Glen Campbell song and I have been listening to it a lot lately. I just found this video of Axl singing it. I love his voice and all his albums so this was a real treat and a wonderful tribute to Mr. Campbell.
The respect shown here is incredible. Next to the original, this is the very best. If only Glenn Campbell could have heard it. He surely would have been brought to tears.
Got to give the band props for courage here. When metal bands cover actual well-written songs with good lyrics they usually fall on their face. Their fans aren't used to that.
Huawei is a criminal organization. ‘Weak solo’ No matter the genre...simplicity or complexity... Other than maybe only 7 or 8 guitarists... anyone would be pretty hard pressed to do a worthy guitar solo up to the standard of Glen Campbell. It’s not even about precision or accuracy, or musicianship. When he wanted it to, Glen Campbell’s guitar playing didn’t generate emotion; it was emotion. He played in a way that can’t be taught and experience or practice can’t provide. He generated ‘feeling’ with guitar strings that only a modern day Bach could reproduce. So, ya, kudos due here.
You picked the wrong "metal band" this time, dude. You will not and could never, find better song writers than Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin. Bar none. You can name plenty in their league but you won't name any better. Clearly you haven't listened to any Guns N' Roses. Put some respect on that name.
Showing respect for a brilliant musician and a brilliant songwriter. Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb. Tells us about the depth of the musicians- they’re much more than a Sunset Strip rock band.
My friend at Sony said Glen Campbell was absolutely beautiful very young. And about the best."The line" was belted out by Glen.Very beautiful song for its time.Still is. When the world was young.A simpler life ago.
I cant get over that gnr plays this I listen to this song everyday lol 🤣 and I love this version.big Glenn Campbell fan here I love rhinestone cowboy and southern nights they should cover that.
Won tickets to this tour they played like from 7:30 to 11: 45 long awesome concert! Drove 2 1/2 hous to work changed into my work clothes in the parking lot never slept totally sober! Worth it!
I am loving this performance especially Axle's vocals which I think was so nice and meshed perfectly with the rest of the band. More like this from them would be great. Great version of this song.
Not many people know but Glen Campbell was a phenomenal guitar player he was sought after by slash,Alice Cooper, Eddie van Halen, and a myriad of the best for his knowledge and teaching, them to play their music their way. You'll never be forgotten old friend your in my thoughts daily anonymous
The age on his voice, and their experience makes this work. His younger voice wouldn't have the same weight. And they were doing the song justice on strings.
I'm glad they did this Country-Pop cross-over classic. I think maybe Axl is trying to prove that he is actually capable of singing grown-up songs......the kind that don't involve screaming. Not a bad job though. It's nice to hear what Axl's natural singing voice sounds like.
Glen Campbell influenced performers across different genres. Legend is that Eddie Van Halen asked Alice Cooper (friend and golf partner of Glen) to arrange a private guitar lesson. That says so much.
Where has this voice been?! The guitarist as well! Without the shrieking shredding of the electric guitar, the man's talent is profoundly displayed on the acoustic. Gladly, I put my prejudgment to rest on the talent of these folk.
Man, this is top shelf right here. When GNR covers a Glen Campbell song, that is huge.
James Tull was my father. In December of 1973 he was electrocuted with 169,000 volts for 18 seconds and lived. He worked 33 years for the power company after that. Every time I hear this song I think of my daddy.
That right there is an f'n song. Write it and send it to Axl. My condolences.
Have you seen the movie Life On The Line? The credits are a tribute to guys that died in just one year if I remember correctly. Good movie
That's a legendary tuff dude in anyone's book...
I had the priviledge of seeing them perform this live in Tennessee last year. This song always reminded me of my old man. One of the best linemen in the country. Still on the line
I seen them perform it in Wichita.
Respect for your dad.
A great tribute to the legendary Glen Campbell...RIP..
glen and all the 70s country guys were the shit
This was recorded 2 days after Glen Campbell died, one of the best singers of this song. This is a great tribute by G&R. Axl sounds great, as do Slash, Duff and the boys! Cool shit
This performance was breathtaking. To take on one of the greatest song by perhaps the greatest american musician speaks to the skill and talent of axel and guns
GnR a dynamic band transitions into magnificence
One of the best songs ever written.
Thank you for the love and respect for it.
I'm not a G&R fan, but they really nailed this amazing song with respect and tenderness!
The best version of this song you will ever hear is from the band called "a girl named Tom" on The Voice look it up on UA-cam you will not be sorry! Their harmonies will blow your mind.
Ain't that the truth
I think axl missed his calling
This is one of my favorite sings. I was afraid that the notes might be beyond Axl’s range, now. But, boy - he nailed it. And, I always thought Slash’s Spanish-guitar influence would fit this song perfectly - and, it did. I’d love to hear an entire album of Jimmy Webb covers by G ‘n R.
This is incredible, the music/acoustics is outstanding and Axel's voice is spot on!!! I love, love, love!!
r I p Glen Campbell!
2 weeks ago in Raleigh NC they performed this song. They did a great job.
Great version, much respect for the band to keep it so close to the original.
It's slash
I am so moved by this cover. This song has just returned to my memory and I am listening to every cover I can. Such a tender song.
Carol Jamieson me too!
Likewise!
Every time I hear this song it brings back lots of great, but emotional, memories of my youth and of my father.
Totally agree! The band must really like it too since they’ve kept it in their set for so long.
You don't see this one coming! What a great voice if he really sings instead of screaming
You can imagine the challenge.Slash had trying to teach them to play this
I've never heard him sing in a normal voice. He should do it more often. Good job Axl
Listen to the song Patience, uses his normal voice.
ikr...
Patience before the coda of the song.
I agree. Very well done.
He begins Pretty Tied Up with his normal voice.
Axl’s voice is so beautiful!!!🤍 I’d love to hear him cover more country songs and sing in his pristine, lower register as well.❤🎶
appreciate one of my favorite bands in college (88) paying tribute to one of my favorite songs
What a beautiful tribute.
Axl finally grows up
Great stuff
Really nice. I mean that! A great song for these guys to do.
Well, for heavens sake !!!! What a wonderful job Axl did with this song !!! Should be proud of himself!!! But then again, Axl always seems to do anything he sets his mind to !!!!!

That is what bands transpose songs down a couple of steps as the singer ages.
Amazing cover!! Very respectful of the original, but with a very sweet flavor of it's own.
JSBIRD69 It's fantastic isn't it? Greetings from Belfast, Ireland

This seriously got me into listening to Glenn Campbell
Same, phenomenal guitarist and songwriter.
@@SMGMusic14 Really just a great tribute. Great playing by the band and Axl sounds amazing in his somewhat normal register.
@@SMGMusic14 I agree completely, although Jimmy Webb actually wrote this song. Glen just made the best version of it.
@@timsanderson5572 Fun fact, Glen plays the solo on a Bass VI, a six string guitar one octave down from a normal guitar but still tuned E to E. He used a Danelectro Bass 6 in the studio and a Fender Bass 6 in the video.

Slash is so respectful of the master Glen Campbell
Man, Glenn had just passed, whoda thunk that Guns n Roses would tribute him,,, man that's so cool of them,, Respect
This is one of my favorite songs ever cant believe fortus told me they covered spectacular job boys
Excellent performance and a fine tribute to Glen Campbell as well, who died right around this time.
That’s respect. Well done boys.
Heard this for the first time in Dallas the other night, and it was just gorgeous. One of many many “favorite” moments of my (FINALLY) first GNR show.
I seen them do this song last month at the concert in Portland. Great job on a classic song
Great tribute to a great performer and one of the best guitarist ever! Thanks GNR
Most excellent performance!!!
GnR singing a song by one of THE best guitarists and singer ever!
Axl really should sing like this more often. He's really got a great mellow voice.
Great tribute to the GREAT Glen Campbell !
That sounds great, the music/guitar is fkn spot on. Glen Campbell would be proud.. Good job boys!! I love yall
Axels voice is awesome.
Truth!...
Axel's voice is awesome as long as he doesn't screech!
Hauntingly Beautiful..am absolutely mesmerized. Ah, the solo. Amazing.
What a great rendition of an American classic from a legendary artist to a legendary band..
I’m in complete awe of this! Mucho Kudos for the Band! VERY Cool!
This is absolutely! beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A great rendition of a great classic by one of the greatest artists, regardless of genre, of all time. Well done!
They need to make a studio recording of this song.
Rumor has it it’s going to be on a new EP called GnFnR coming out October 1st
Agreed
with that guitar riff.
We all know Ax is an amazing singer. His range is perfect.
A great tune thats sung with feeling from guns and roses with Axl and the band with those good times that never fade.
Not a big guns and roses fan but big respect to them for covering this great song from a great man.
I love this Glen Campbell song and I have been listening to it a lot lately. I just found this video of Axl singing it. I love his voice and all his albums so this was a real treat and a wonderful tribute to Mr. Campbell.
Strange hearing him singing in his lower register, but it sounds awesome!! Very nice rendition by the band. 👍
Guns N' Roses knows how to write a song or two . . .
Two things.
1. GNR is *not* a metal band.
2. Usually, metal covers are as good as, if not better than, the original.
Huawei is a criminal organization.

I think Guns n Roses does some of the best covers on sing that I've heard, they take their time and do them justice it's wonderful.
Just goes to show all of us musicians love great songs and respect great artists. Excellent rendition!
Wow... It didn't see this coming...!!! I thought "train wreck" when I read the title. I'm busy eating humble pie now. Loved it!!!
I'm glad I came across this version.
What a fantastic job Axel did. 😊
This is so beautiful. They really nailed this and it was a lovely tribute
A great artist will always protect and preserve any great music-bravo A-rose N Slash!
Beautiful cover of this Jimmy Webb classic
Well done. Great cover from a great band.
I cant get over that gnr plays this I listen to this song everyday lol 🤣 and I love this version.big Glenn Campbell fan here I love rhinestone cowboy and southern nights they should cover that.
I just gained a ton of respect for this band
I saw Glen do this many many years ago at his concert.

Whoa! This totally gave me goosebumps! I did not expect that... I don't even get goosebumps when Glen sang it! Right on Axl, good job! 🎤🎸🎶
he actually has a pretty voice. Nice cover. That song always gives me goose bumps
Great cover and a great tribute. Nice job Axl and Slash....and band.
I like that little low dip note in the chorus..axl’s personal touch to the classic
That is awesome. I would go see them again just to hear this live in person

A lot of people of a certain age know it. We grew up watching him on TV quite a bit.
What a respectful and meaningful performance!!!! Wow!!
this song is a classic and well played and sung great job guys
What a great song-I’m glad they’ve left it in their set.
The age on his voice, and their experience makes this work. His younger voice wouldn't have the same weight. And they were doing the song justice on strings.
Wow. Excellent cover.
Awesome, love this song.Slash solo at the end is incredible. WOW!
Wow! Surprisingly excellent!
Glen is watching and smiling. GnR did it right.
Well damn!! That is seriously good. I'm not a huge Guns and Roses fan but if they released this on an album Id buy it !
I was already prepared to dislike it, but this is great!
Axel kicks ass with this beautiful adoption of Glen Campbell’s original song. I would vote for Axel Rose if he ran for President
The power of a Jimmy Webb tune. Done well.
Axel sounded superb performing this.
Great respect to GnR for keeping fairly true to Glen Campbell’s original.
Just tremendous,!
💖💖💖💖💖Super awesome concert 🙌 and Super love Glen Campbell all the way RIP SALT LAKE UT 🙏
Don't ya love it when the camera doesn't have a clue which guitar is playing the solo
I don't think the camera realised it was Slash not Duff playing the solo. I used to fancy Duff back when these guys were hot.
muskndusk It wasn’t Slash playing the solo either.
@R You Don't Know Was it Fortus?
muskndusk It’s whoever’s playing the white Gretsch guitar. Don’t know if it’s Izzy or...?
Absolutely beautiful

Axel's one of the best vocalists to ever do it... I wouldn't have guessed they would have covered this song in a million years but it sounds awesome
Because GNR music is so different than Glenn Campbell's I wouldn't have ever known that they were influenced by Glenn. What a nice tribute 👏🏻 ❤
Glen Campbell influenced performers across different genres. Legend is that Eddie Van Halen asked Alice Cooper (friend and golf partner of Glen) to arrange a private guitar lesson. That says so much.

I really expected to hate this, but I was very impressed!
Not an Axle fan, but this was really really on point.
