@@Ghostcharm hey nice video man. I want you to check out Robert Sepehr's dragon bloodlines video on youtube, I feel like esoteric serpent symbology has something to do with jack being a dragon in the Fable DLC.👌👌👌
My favorite line of dialogue from this game comes from the players wife when her happiness is full. You can hear her singing "This kind of joy, not even Jack can destroy". Too cute.
I loved being pure evil in this game, getting the mask, and then donating until my hair grew back. This raised my standing back with the people of Albion and then I effectively became a new Jack of Blades.
Is a shame they only made one, although not as much of a shame as there only being one Matrix movie. Or possibly 2, as the fate of the guild master 'your health is low' pretty much makes up for all the lack...
Fun Fact: The Queen and Knight of blades souls are still in the masks on Jacks chest. Since they're so much more powerful, Jack hasn't been able to find suitable vessels strong enough to hold them. Even if the masks are destroyed their souls just go back to the void making them essentially almost undestroyable unless you kill them in the void possibly.
@@GhostDrewSenju I got this information from Dene Carter himself and Angus Syme who created jack. The thing I like about Fable is that the term "Hero" doesn't only apply to a good person doing good deeds for good people. A Hero in Albion is simply someone of extraordinary ability who performs notable and/or historic feats. With that logic, it makes sense Jack is referred to as "Hero of Heroes" in the arena since he's basically a living legend by the game's events.

Imagine if Fable 2 had a DLC called "Dark Chapters" where the whole game is set in a world where the evil ending was canonical Just exploring the implications of such an occurrence
There's actually a master-class scheme possible depending on how you play the game. In a full evil playthrough, Jack attacks and hardens the Hero, who goes on to be every bit as ruthless as Jack. The Hero, motivated by revenge and ambition, takes up the role of the person who would ultimately oppose Jack, and keeps the Sword of Aeons, a definitely cursed, but pure weapon of power. Opening the final seal to Jack's hiding place requires the systematic execution of any arrangement of hope to save the world again, and then the Hero delivers the Sword of Aeons, the most powerful body in the land, and the beginnings of a tyrannical regime straight to the mask. Done this way, provoking the Hero isn't even a mistake, it's just a vital component to the best outcome for Jack. His only real downfall was the Sword of Aeons getting nerfed in The Lost Chapters, so even an evil, greedy, and power hungry Hero is better off skipping it.

Tossed his mask in the lava then slaughtered Oakvale so I could buy the town. I then went to bowerstone north and punched lady grey for not putting out after I married her. Once I was divorced I went to the darkwood bordello and played with the dominatrix. Good times.
I’ve always felt the best enemies or villains in games are ones that aren’t just mechanical challenges but also antithetical to the games themes or goals. That’s why I think creepers are so genius, because they are threat to both the player and the player’s world progress. So I guess a villain in a comedic game that just doesn’t follow the rules of mockery is a pretty good villain.
Best intro possible for a new Fable entry: “Do you truly think he managed to end us, those aeons ago? {Vengeful cackling} The door we opened never truly shut, after all … it was simple to wait until his blood, his Will was weened from the world by force of time alone. Now, no so called ‘Heroes’ remain- the time has come to reclaim what is ours, as it rightfully was so long before you’d ever known…” [The Queen of Blades steps into the light, followed by The Knight, and last, by The Jack.] And then the gameplay would focus on aspects of a futuristic, post apocalyptic world wherein crude technology mimics the effects of Will, while discovering you are the last of a bloodline of forgotten Heroic individuals, tracing your line back to the Hero of Oakvale like most protags in the series. While slowly infusing Will into your tech and/or physical prowess, you’re able to rekindle the spark of Will and awaken other bloodlines, all coming together to challenge The Court of Blades. Where the Will of One once sufficed, the Will of Many must prevail in this new fight for life. Yeah.
Jack's character design is so great. He's instantly recognizable, and every little detail speaks to his menace and the ferocity with which he pursues his goals.
I always felt bad for Maze. Yeah, he was a traitor but he joined Jack because he was afraid, not out of malice. He even dreamed he could beat him and tried to obtain Avo's Tear to have a chance at opposing him but was deemed unworthy.
Someone needs to make replica costumes of the clothing on this game. I would rock the evil mages robes. Also, the edited voice of Jack of Blades on anniversary is epic.
Jack of Blades is one of my favorite characters and is certainly a cunning villain. Really devious in breaking the psyche in people, which is much much more darker than killing. Rather a slow, painful means to demoralize and probably get the Hero of Oakvale to trip up in his choices. But it’s very triumphal to destroy one of the powerful beings from the Void. Although it’d be very amazing to have a game that would eventually lead towards the destruction of the Heroes Guild by the people of Bowerstone. Massive choices to act upon in that setting.
Such a great video. I'd love to see a Villainpedia on Lucien from Fable 2. He was always my favorite villain from the Fable franchise, and his speech when you first arrive at the Spire is one of my favorite speeches in gaming.
I don't know if someone will agree with me, but the level of the prison has always been my favorite in the game. I don't know exactly why, maybe the beauty of seeing your hero stripped of everything he has accumulated and having to save himself with his basic abilities. Or maybe is because I love the design of the prison and I wish it was a more extended level.
I've always hated the revoice of jack of blades in the lost chapters. He sounds so much more evil and threatening in the original release. Anyway, great video! New sub :)
amazing video! Fable 1 is my childhood and a game I still hold very dear; i replay it every couple of years. Jack of Blades is so simple yet so iconic and intimidating as a villain, its cool to see a breakdown of his character and lore.
These videos are all so masterfully made and well-articulated, their quality is astounding and they really deserve more recognition. I'm excited for more and glad to see your channel grow along the way!
Jack is Chaos. Shifting. Changing. Corrupting. Renewing. He can't die, because how does one slay that which has no true form? Whether Chaos appears as a dragon or a man or a sword or the infinite abyss, it is present in all things. All hearts hear its whispers, its calls to power. And even the Hero named Will fell to that in the end, what with extended lore about him doing things like committing genocide. He's the shadow of the hero, not the leader of a great evil or champion of everything wrong like the Queen and Knight respectively. He'll always be there as long as someone has the power to impose their Will on others. Maybe you won't see him right away, but Jack's always been a man of masks to hide behind. But, as long as he is there, you'll see a blade plunged into the heart of a tyrant. He is both sides of the coin. The Hero, mirrored darkly, but also The Hero played straight.
Hence why he was called "The hero of heroes" be it as the villain in their story or he himself being the hero stopping a villain. A very insightful view of the character I'd say.
jack of blades is one of my top video game villians, i never forgot him after fable one and i was disappointed by both final bosses in the games after, i wish more video games made final bosses like him
ok that'd be a common trope, but if they ever make another fable, jack should return as a snake, recovered from a piece of the mask, but like less evil and more chaotic, pushed to insanity due to destruction of the mask and the shame of another defeat and he would just at one point help out the hero... just to go into the Void and become it, being stronger than ever but at the same time also doing another plot twist, cuz he would decide "nah fam I ain't fighting another hero, 3 times the charm but I ain't doing that" and just sits down to become a bridge between realities to allow one and other to connect and learn.
I just found this channel tonight but I’m enjoying it. Love me some good lore.. and the character focuses.. excellent. I’m glad I found this channel. Well done.
My favorite thing about Jack Of Blades is that he is painted as such an unstoppable force, at every turn he wins, even in the good ending it feels as though he was ONE STEP away from becoming an unkillable God, up until you kill his Dragon form he is always one step ahead and really, at that final battle it feels as though you are just in time and if you were to delay a moment more Jack would have grown so powerful that he would have unleashed a hell that could not be quelled
I never knew the stuff about the court and the origins of will and I've been a fable fan since I was 7. This is pretty interesting and a really well made video!
I always wished in TLC they kept his original voice at first and as the game progressed and his evil became more apparent; his voice would then transform. His original voice was oddly conniving and as he spoke, you knew something was wrong about this "man." The perfect voice instead of the straight demonic voice we're given.
Jack of blades is so freaking awesome, that he’s the only one from the court that got his own tomb in fable 2, Never mind it was twin blades, Jack just wasn’t cool enough
The Hero of Albion, along with Whisper, Thunder and Briar Rose: "Now let's see who's REALLY behind the Jack of Blades..." *pulls off mask* Everyone: "PETER MOLYNEUX!?" Whisper: "Why did you do it, Peter?" PM: "Can't you fools see? I desperately hate poor people: that's why I made all my games as stealth 'scummy landlord simulators!' That's why I sold Lionshead to Microsoft and became creative director for all the crappy Fable-themed shovelware games! All Fable had ever been about was a means to keep the peasantry down!"
Holy shit I didn't know the hidden lore in the dead website. The story is even more incredible now. It is insane looking at how the series deteriorated when it was a blockbuster on a silver platter. It all went to the sticks when Lionhead Studios got axed. RIP
Fun trivia, the two other masks jack has with him are those of the Knight and Queen of blades,he didn't bring them back because he focuses on finding himself a suitable vessel first and just hadn't found vessels for the other two.
I heard that opening line and I was transported back in time. This game was so great. I have to say that the not lost chapters version had a better voice for Jack of Blades.
Jack has one of the absolute coldest taunts "come at me bro" cutscenes in the game before you fight him. I dont think I've ever seen such evil in a provocation in any video game.
My first time, I said I'd be a good guy. But then I got caught stealing from a shop because they gave me a bad price on stuff. That's when I decided the world would perish. It wasn't until I came across the girl with the teddy bear that I went back to being good (though we were both adults by that point).
I remember fable I was the good hero everyone feared. I was addicted to the evil strength spell but everything else was good but because of it I was never seen as a real hero
The only thing wrong with Jack of Blades is how Lost Chapters and Anniversary ruined his voice. In original he had a Tim Curry-esque voice that was ambiguous. He could be an evil hero and he could just be the neutral rogue archetype. There's threatening subtext to his words and if you paid attention, but he's never outright your big bad, maybe just another stone in the adventure. Lost Chapters and Anniversary modulated his voice to that demonic pitch which in some ways ruins his reveal. You know automatically he's pure evil.
Love these videos. Just found them with the dagoth one. I'm going to spam it but I'd love to see this done for the metal gear villains. Feel like its ripe with content for you and you buttery voice.
Assassin rush, force push, and lighting were my go to spells. I miss this game. Actually I wish I had force push IRL sometimes with this corona shit going on lol
Cool video man. Now I'm hyped for the new Fable game. With today's tech and the knowledge of the Fable franchise's successes and failures, the new one should be amazing.
I just finished on a pure good play through and this popped up on my recommended feed and this is just what I needed but yeah it was definitely interesting playing this again after a couple of years of growing up
One good way to Flush out Jack of Blades is to make a D&D campaign around Fable and give him the recognition he deserves as the Best and Only Big Bad of the Fable series
Man it would've been wild if the masks on Jack's chest actually were the Knight and the Queen and Jack's goal had been to turn our mother and Theresa into them instead of just killing them to get his sword back. Especially since Theresa is seemingly stronger than the Hero (who can become Jack), unlocking our potential and living long enough to feature in the sequels, so she could've been a suitable host for the Queen. Could've set up for better sequel villains too.
I personally find it interesting how the fate of Jack of Blades depending on which ending you go for in the first game can effect how you see things in Fable 2 without anything actually being explicitely different. Fable 2 heavily implies that only the good ending of Fable 1 is canon, but I have theories that the evil ending can be canon too without any mention of it being made. Jack of Blade's ability to shapeshift into people as a disguise in referenced in one of the Fable books when he takes the form of a traveling scholar. If the evil ending of Fable 1 was canon, Theresa would be dead and Jack of Blades would be alive and just wanting for power. And so I theorise that the Theresa from Fable 2, depending on what ending you prefer, can either be the real Theresa or Jack of Blades in disguise. Additional things like dressing similarly to Jack of Blades and unexplained new powers like teleportation also lean towards this. And if Theresa was actually Jack of Blades, then seizing control of the Tattered Spire is actually a horrifying revelation, because it means that the fate of the world in Fable 2 entirely depends on the decisions made in Fable 1. I never played Fable 3 so I don't know how it would effect this theory, but I like to think it adds an extra layer to Jack of Blades' character and to the lore of the games as a whole.
Even though I played an evil 'hero' I opted to toss the sword and mask. The promise of power and domination didn't really mean anything since I already had both in spades. I already owned nearly all the buildings in every town hub, I'm already the strongest, and everyone fears my power. My best reasoning would be to quote Dr. Doom in Death Battle. "His power, it's like that of a Gods...BENEATH ME!"
I liked Jack's old voice more. He seemed like a less cartoonish villain. He seemed more deceitful with the unassuming voice. It was more unsettling than the newer voice.
Congrats on the 1k subs bro :)

And then the gameplay would focus on aspects of a futuristic, post apocalyptic world wherein crude technology mimics the effects of Will, while discovering you are the last of a bloodline of forgotten Heroic individuals, tracing your line back to the Hero of Oakvale like most protags in the series. While slowly infusing Will into your tech and/or physical prowess, you’re able to rekindle the spark of Will and awaken other bloodlines, all coming together to challenge The Court of Blades. Where the Will of One once sufficed, the Will of Many must prevail in this new fight for life.
Yeah.
8:12 Nope, saving you was not part of the plan. Maze had a slight change of heart and rescued you, which wound up being his and Jack's undoing.
Jack's character design is so great. He's instantly recognizable, and every little detail speaks to his menace and the ferocity with which he pursues his goals.
I always felt bad for Maze. Yeah, he was a traitor but he joined Jack because he was afraid, not out of malice. He even dreamed he could beat him and tried to obtain Avo's Tear to have a chance at opposing him but was deemed unworthy.
agreed. cool character with very understandable motivations.
I really love this series. It brings forward nostalgia and lost memories while you go over these things. I think your channel has alot going for it!
Man think how cool it would be if Jack made a come back in fable 2 or 3.
New sub :)
Unpopular opinion but I like both, though the original is definitely more creepy and unique
I've had a running theory that there may be a fourth entity, that the three over threw. A "king of blades" if you will.
amazing video!
He is the only video game villain that gave me ptsd
@@Endgame707 🤨 meaning?
Jack of blades is a Canadian soldier sent by the Canadian government to conquer Albion
Canadian imperialism in Albion
@@Endgame707 fascinating
@@SunDragon243 yes Canada wants to conquer Albion and enslave it’s people what should we do?
Something about Jack made him my favorite villain. Could just be the nostalgia or the aesthetic, but I loved that guy. Similar to Dagoth I guess.
why is it some of the best villains wear masks?
They got a lot to hide. Like not wanting us to become charmed by their hansome mugs, but rather their seductive words.
@@TheMoinomedian that's actually smart
Well done.
There is a way to get this lore in game. You just have to do the YMCA to hear it.
Massively underrated channel. Please make more!
Indubitably
I never knew the stuff about the court and the origins of will and I've been a fable fan since I was 7. This is pretty interesting and a really well made video!
I do hope they bring back the court in the new Fable
I killed her cause I went through the whole arena without leaving to get potions. Then I faced her and the scorpion on 1 hit left of health.
I never knew any of this and I've been a fan of Fable for years! Awesome video, you deserve more attention for this fine series.
I always wished in TLC they kept his original voice at first and as the game progressed and his evil became more apparent; his voice would then transform.
His original voice was oddly conniving and as he spoke, you knew something was wrong about this "man."
The perfect voice instead of the straight demonic voice we're given.
Jack of blades is so freaking awesome, that he’s the only one from the court that got his own tomb in fable 2, Never mind it was twin blades, Jack just wasn’t cool enough
coziness level: 1 million
I've always liked him for the sick design
The Hero of Albion, along with Whisper, Thunder and Briar Rose: "Now let's see who's REALLY behind the Jack of Blades..."
*pulls off mask*
Everyone: "PETER MOLYNEUX!?"
Whisper: "Why did you do it, Peter?"
PM: "Can't you fools see? I desperately hate poor people: that's why I made all my games as stealth 'scummy landlord simulators!' That's why I sold Lionshead to Microsoft and became creative director for all the crappy Fable-themed shovelware games! All Fable had ever been about was a means to keep the peasantry down!"
I always liked Jack of Blades, but now knowing his backstory, he is truly awesome!
a most based villain, so much charisma for such a purely evil force
Man you make the best atmospheric put on and chill videos. Would be very down if you started making super long videos too.
Holy shit I didn't know the hidden lore in the dead website. The story is even more incredible now. It is insane looking at how the series deteriorated when it was a blockbuster on a silver platter.
It all went to the sticks when Lionhead Studios got axed. RIP
A Fable game with Souls-like combat would be amazing. It might be contrary to the light humor, but the deaths could even add to it if they’re comical.
"Light hearted" Orphaned within the first few minutes lol
I'm so glad you are doing this series!!!
me too! More coming this weekend - next week :)
Cool story. Wish it was actually in the actual game. (I also thought of him as some random bandit lord.)
Fun trivia, the two other masks jack has with him are those of the Knight and Queen of blades,he didn't bring them back because he focuses on finding himself a suitable vessel first and just hadn't found vessels for the other two.
Jack of Blades became my first video game crush in 2007. I was six, I'm 21 now, and my man-crush for this unit is still there
I heard that opening line and I was transported back in time. This game was so great.
I have to say that the not lost chapters version had a better voice for Jack of Blades.
Jack has one of the absolute coldest taunts "come at me bro" cutscenes in the game before you fight him. I dont think I've ever seen such evil in a provocation in any video game.
I thoroughly enjoyed all of the Fable games, for different reasons . Hope there is another, at some point
fable music gives me such nostalgia, thank you for making this video
Nostalgia at its finest. I’m happy I stumbled upon your channel. Awesome content!
Would love to see a review of the Fable series. Cheers!
thanks! definitely will happen at some point :)
Such a legendary game, still play it to this day.
To this day, the Fable series continues to be some of my favorite games.
Jack may be memorable but that fight in three is one of the most gut wrenching in gaming 😢
villain #suggestion bob page from deus ex. he's in the two prequel games as well, and his machinations extend across many decades.
I absolutely adore Jack of Blades design
Man it would've been wild if the masks on Jack's chest actually were the Knight and the Queen and Jack's goal had been to turn our mother and Theresa into them instead of just killing them to get his sword back. Especially since Theresa is seemingly stronger than the Hero (who can become Jack), unlocking our potential and living long enough to feature in the sequels, so she could've been a suitable host for the Queen. Could've set up for better sequel villains too.
Love these great videos on these great villains from these great games!!!
I grew up on fable & halo. fable inspired my live for fantasy and magic those were the days ❤
Dang! I knew Jack was a badass, but not on this level. Another great video dude 🤘
How on earth did the Fable franchise fall from this place of high grace. Fantastic video, it’s only my 8th time watching it.
Some idiot decided to turn this series into a steampunk comedy show. They sacrificed all the magic and mystery.
You are so underrated man, how do you only have 800 subs??
thanks a lot dude.
I read anything about the old kingdom in the books of Fable 1, loved this game and loved Jack
You are producing great work! New subscriber as of today.
thank you - and welcome !
I was listening to this story with every focus
Then came 4:54
Fucking Lego Yoda death sound XD
Well done on the video. A good callback to one of our most beloved villains. Please do more of these soon.
Always working on a new one 👍🏼
Congratulations on 1,000 subscribers brother!
thank you buddy
I'm sold. Thought I was the only secret fan hahah
Could you take a look at handsome jack from borderlands? Certainly a top notch villain
I would like to see an entry for the Diablo, most likely a villain but You could do a heropedia or maybe even an NPCpedia entry.
Such A UNDERRATED CHANNEL. Your lore job is amazing. Keep up the awesome work mate. :D
