dunno why a 6 month old video that is unrelated anything I've watched recently is in my recommended, but I'm here!
Same.
Glad you're here! I have lots more videos on the way!
You could turn a pop up headlight into an air scoop. Flipping them down would hide it for that stealth appeal.
exxxxxceeeept, you kinda neeed those.
TheSixPixelKid no use the fog lights as the main lights , just put brighter led lights in them
@@vcdc nah you really don't
Good to see Dsm's still alive......I need to work on my 1G
you have a lab coat....that makes you a scientist.
This is true.
Used somekind metal piece to liner helps lots Make straight Lines and use 1.0mm rst grinder cuttin wheel =)
I really enjoy the quality of your videos man. Don’t have a dsm but I respect your build.
Very interesting and as you say, at a glance it does not draw any attention. I must say that your videos are both entertaining and educational.
Well done sir!
Thanks!!
Man I just found this channel, you make some incredibly high quality videos! You've just got yourself a new subscriber!
Cool thanks!
Adam's AUTObiography I hate people that announce that they're subscribing lol
amazing content guys! keep up the good work! really felt the enthusiasm you guys have for cars in this video
Thanks!
Heck yeah! Love the videos! Nice to see some Colorado DSMs
Very cool video!
Good approach to your experiment design, however, if I could make a few suggestions.
I think two minutes per run is too short of a duration. It would take longer to do your logs, but I would think something like 20 minutes to 30 minutes per run would be better. This way you get a better idea of the steady state cooling difference. This is shown at the end of the video, where you mentioned that the temperature continued to plummet while driving home.
Also, in addition to noting the starting intake temperature, I think it would be good to also note the ambient temperature (if possible with your logging software). That way if there was any change in the outdoor temperature, you could compare different temperature deltas (like ambient starting, intake starting, ambient ending, intake ending).
But, like you said, you're not a scientist! :P Keep up the great work, I love your videos and the quality is on par with (or even better than) bigger channels.
Yep, good ideas! I'll incorporate those in my follow up tests :D
Sound isn't on because I'm pooping in peace but this is a quality vid. Definitely subscribing. Need good car channels that are less vlogs in my subs.
I always bring headphones in with me when I'm pooping so I can watch videos in the stall. :D
I can't wait to start tearing down my 1GA GSX. I love the videos! great video editing and entertainment
Cold air yes, also low pressure. One of the lowest pressure areas on the exterior of the vehicle is the edge between the front end and hood. The air velocity is very high here, and as Bernoulli's law states, that's low pressure.
This is great having a funny and informative channel with the car we all love. DSM
I've had an extra pair of lens for while to do this but didn't think it would make that much difference without ducting. Can't wait to see with ducting.
Liked and subscribed! Kinda randomly stumbled here, wasn't expecting hard data but that's what I like! I'm thinking about slapping a naca duct one of my headlight lids :D
Thanks! Definitely do it!
Finally some Eclipse vids.
You making me miss my 1st gen eclipse =[. Great work on the mod
I did a simple mod where the intake was tucked inside the front bumper. the only sacrifice was the fog lamp. it worked out great but the only downside was rain used to soak up the filter, meaning days when it rained I had to remove the filter.
Yay! You watched Eric too!
Love this, man.
Thanks!
Maybe you'll manage to get some more cooler air if you're getting the Talon center grille insert. Behind the grille it's closed with like a plastic wall though like the usual Mitsubishi center grille, but drilling a hole into it and combining it with a hose to the intake might do the trick.
I thought about doing that myself, but Talon grills are super rare items in Europe and I don't wanna mess up mine.
I also saw a 1G for the track which had air inlets in the metal cover of the right pop up. Might work pretty good as well, but also not so nice for driving while it's raining.
Nice video once again, haven't checked into your 1G for some time - but it's nice seeing someone putting some professional love into it.
When you do the HX35 install, please video the hell out of it Jafro style. I want to do that swap too with a 7 Blade HX35, not sure if I want to use the BEP DSM style housing, or get a twin scroll T3 tubular manifold made and use the massive stock housing.
I'm taking tons of video of it, I'm going to do it as extensively as possible. Jafro is the best though, his detail is superb, I'll try my best! The twin scroll is a LOT more work (and money) but man, it spools like a demon! :D
Yeah more expensive, but spooling that beast before 3000 would be siiiiick.
Velocity Labs I honestly think the reason it is always so long between videos I'd because you put twice as much time editing the videos then you so filming them great quality thanks for the upload
No problem, thanks! Yeah it takes a while to shoot and edit, I'm going to try upload more this year though!
Steady hand and a dremel or die grinder works like a charm
You can buy a very fine tooth saw and you'll get a perfect edge. Xacto makes a nice one
Velocity Labs
___ I like your data collecting efforts and relative comparisons of temperature deltas. ( thumbs up! )
___ Might a couple light coatings of a gloss or matte clear spray enamel paint help to match the screen to the surrounding lens without diminishing flow?
___ Great DIY !
Always love your videos man, keep them coming!!
try oscillating multi-tool saw, you can definitely control it a lot better, buy one cheap from harbor freight and blades. I bought my at home Depot made by dremel and is the best $100 dollars I have ever paid for a tool, the blades replace blade are a little expensive but you would be amazed what you can do. thanks and keep the videos coming.
Cool I'll definitely check that out!
haha nice vid awesome results cool hair and i like the blooper at the end
Would it work on the other side too? Then would be aesthetically white correct on the outside. I like how you dive into the science of things. Great job again!
Hello, great video! What program are you using to monitor your temperatures
.
ECMLink!
Put LED headlights in the fixed lights. flush mount some snorkel scoops in place of the pop-up light fixtures
Not a bad idea!
Looks like you'd be down to smoke a joint and work on some cars. Cool test btw. Could you use some hose to tunnel air to the airbox from somewhere else too ?
Was legit thinking abiout doing this on my car then I remembered that I have an MR2... :|
owen75
You can cut either: a roof scoop(s) or side intakes (incl. water filter).
They have scoops for the MR2s and side vents came factory lol
dremal with cut off wheel then switch to sanding disk to smooth off ruff areas. .you can use plastic or metal gutter mesh or perforated aluminum and glue it from the inside area ..it will look much heterogeneous and last longer.
Looks good! What was the outside temp? Are u running speed density? I did a similar mod to get cooler air. I'm running speed density. relocated the filter to the bottom left corner of the fog light. Temp is within 10 degrees of ambient temp.
I think it was about 50 outside, somewhere around there. I'm not running SD yet, I'm on a 2G MAF during this test which is helpful because it gives a more accurate representation of intake temps. On speed density it's reading the charge temp instead of actual intake temp, so for this test a MAF is a little more accurate. I'm upgrading to Speed Density soon though for my HX35 install!
Been looking forward to the upgrade! Get on with it lol
Yes ur finally back
did this mod like 3 months ago. friend did it 6 months ago works good
A ginger with a pony tail?! That's like seeing a soulless unicorn
Torey Smith lol
Use a skillsaw/ jig saw with a very fine tooth count for metal (40t blade or higher) and that should give you a very nice, clean cut.
Love the channel keep up the amazing videos!
a sroll saw works pretty good but if you use a really small blade in a jig saw and a dremel sanding wheel BTW great video keep it up
Well done
Liked video!!! Plz more conetent youre my fav utuber by far
Thanks! I'm working on uploading more often!
Would be cool to see this duct straight into the air box!
go through the bottom of the air box through the wheel well. Works so much better.
It's simple use a dremel tool, that's a very handy tool for any proyect.
Still not as bad as me Erik, been 5 years since I got my 92 as a roller and I still haven't got it reliable.
Oh can you make longer video's?
Yeah, I definitely want to make longer videos. I'm working on uploading more content more often!
Black rims and the mesh black would look so good 👅
Correct me.if im out of place but, my dads friend uses water on whatever plastic he is using hot water as a matter of fact and he gets some pretty nice cuts plus less dust if any.
Water jet would be awesome! Definitely the way to go if you have it.
You got those improvments with that hole under the pop up you would get better results if you would make it bigger
Agreed! I'm going to enlarge it in a future video!
Nice video.
I think u should use sortring iron to cut plastic ... it goes through like hot knife in butter ... but it makes a little mess
Also I did it exactly the same way as you but I put the mesh on the back of the lense
The best tool for this application would be an jigsaw ran off of a compressor, finish up the corners with the a dermal with small 1/8” carbide burr.
You should add the white mesh to the other side just to make it look even
"I'm not a scientist"
Bull shit bro, that was scientific method. Granted 97%, but you know why, which honestly furthers the point. Don't discredit yourself man, you had a theory, tested it empirically, and got a proven result that can be recreated. You're golden bro.
ETCG1 !!!!
to cut the pastic, use a dremel with the rigth disc and not too many RPMs (that melt the plastic) you'll have a cleaner cut.
oh! and great vids btw! just found you channel, consider me a new suscriber
Thanks!
CAI or a port to intake cooler air into the engine bay? If not a CAI, cut another port on the left side in the same spot.
Doesnt it kinda contradict it bc when the headlights are up there is more air resistance
Yeah but you definitely won't feel it... putting your lights up is not near enough resistance to feel it
Oscillating cutter works good
Nice video there mate.. well You've just got yourself a new subscriber!.. +1..
btw, can you do dyno and show us a bit.. how many power your car produce.. maybe video 0-100 or top speed.. for fun xD
Definitely, can do!
Any thoughts on the headlights up effecting your drag coefficient? might get lower intake temps, but with headlights up doesn't seem very aero!
Probably, but I would guess it's negligible, especially under 100mph.
Velocity Labs ah very true, will be doing this mod regardless :p Thanks for putting up awesome videos!
Is the drag of lights up not going to counteract any increase from cold intake temp
So you cut up the mint lense and saved the junky lense?
kool car nice mod 👍
You were melting the plastic not cutting it. Cut off wheels do not work on plastic.
I need your hair, NOW!
I watched an advertisement about flying 2,000 drones being "mind blowing..."
I hope this video is.
What if all the power you'll gain will be cancelled out by the extra drag your pop up headlights are creating hahaha
Use masking or painters tape for straight lines
You could use a Dremel tool for a cleaner cut👍🏼
where in Colorado did you test out the intake temps?
also what type of paint did you use on the mesh?
In Denver. The paint is just white rustoleum spray paint!
Drill then jig saw with metal blade? Or plastic if they make one
Die Grinder/Rotary Tool. A cutting blade on a Dremel would have done a great job on that.
Wait! You have a 2nd channel?? I am headed there now. :)
I haven't been posting to it much, I'm going to try post to both channels much more this year.
Dremel for the rough cuts and file to finish it
awesome
Man,,,you is fantastic,,, i have mitsubishi eclipse 1991 turbo to,,, i need help,,,
Convert your fog lights full hid and get rid of the headlight completely
Use a dremal tool with a 2inch cutting wheel
I know this video 6 months old, but colder air is better up until a certain point, unless you're using forced induction than you can run much colder air and it's better, but it's still not always "colder is better"
I'm running 30psi of boost, so I would say I'm using forced induction : D
Was.. was there a monster can in there?
Next time use an oscillating tool to make the cuts. It will go through the plastic like a hot knife through butter.
Eric the car guy !!!!!
God I miss my 91
Would clear coat make any difference?
Is this illegal? Where are you from?
Totally legal as long as the headlight still works! I'm from Colorado.
Anyone else see the monster can near the light😂
yes lol i was like wtf
I feel like if those lights were smoked, with black or dark grey mesh over the hole, it might hide it a bit more... I dont know, Maybe not
Put baking soda on the super glue to harden faster
Some "high speed rotary tools" have special cutting wheels for plastic. They feel more aggressive than metal cutoff wheels and at lower RPM will cut away the plastic instead of just melting it. For even better results you can take the clear cover off and drill corners and then cut it with a scroll saw. That would give you nice edges and would be pretty quick to do with lower TPI blades. Speaking of blades, if you decide to use a saw make sure to get blades made for cutting plastic, if you can. Their tooth geometry is different from wood ones and will make cutting easier. If you are all fancy-like and have access to a laser cutter, you can even try that. The cover is curvy, but that won't make THAT much of a difference, especially since this hole does not have to be all that precise.
On an unrelated note, it was interesting to see that at cruise speed the car only needed 30 HP or less according to the computer.
Drill holes in each corner and use a body saw ......(I have an air one that works great for plastic and sheet metal ) Harbor Freight Special ....
Why you did not used a dremmel?
From 97° to 85° without mod, and 86° to 80° with mod doesn't seems it work.
why there's monster can in your engine bay
Huh why don't you put an led light in the thin area ware you cut out and you can remove the light and just make it an ram air intake with tube .
That's a really good idea actually.
use painters tape for your straight lines
Masking tape for the line you want and follow that with a drimel
