That is a lot cheaper than I thought. I figured about $10k completely shipped/installed. It definitely seems like one of those tools you groan about when you buy it, but after a few uses you wonder how you functioned without.

Putting a lift in my garage would cost me about $1500 total. The $40,000 I'd need to literally raise the roof however would be a tad out of my range....

I installed a 4 post 9000lb model from Direct Lift 4 years ago. All in, all done, delivered, set up etc cost me right at $4000. Hands down, best money I've ever spent on my home shop, with the exception of my machine tools which don't really count in this context. I would do it again tomorrow in a heart beat.
Got the same one in 220 volt, great lift, wife and I assembled it in two weekends with nothing more than a engine hoist, saved myself 1,000 bucks total cost was less than $4,000 well worth it, 65 Buick Skylark sits on top 72 Ford Maverick underneath for now with 10 foot ceiling. If you can swing it do it.
Damn that's definitely cheaper than I would've expected for all the supporting items included. But the real question is how many times did you have to hit your head on that beam getting out of the STI?
I started with an air single cylinder underground lift 30 years ago . Always bolt any lift down. I've seen them collapse. make sure you have stops on both ends when using a 4 post lift. I have seen cars roll off the ends. I always build my shops with 14 foot ceilings, but you can get by with shorter. Just make sure you put a safety trip that will stop the upward motion at the max height. I've got an airplane hanging from my ceiling also, but not where the hoists are. There is a pic of it on my channel.
I spent 10k building the garage. 12ft ceiling and 12" deep concrete where the lift posts sit. $500 Benwil lift. $250 to install the lift. The installers positioned the posts by hand, drilled, and mounted. Set the chain length for the arms to be even and installed the power to the motor.
Great job on the lift and the video, I'll be installing my own next month as soon as it gets here, already ordered it. I went with Bendpak as well. I went with the HD-9 standard.
Good review. Lots of great info. I see folks getting the BendPack pretty often. We have three Direct Lift Pro Park8 lifts in our three car garage. The biggest car we have is a 996TT, but I've had a Cayenne and an M5 and they do fit. The Direct Lift is the one with the mechanical locks - so no air compressor. They are also 110V and were just over $3K installed. We had one hydraulic unit go out, but it was quickly replaced under warranty. You can do quite a bit of work on the lifts and I use them for all of our How Tos. So much safer than jack stands and such!
I was searching for info on the Bent Pac Lift and happened on to your video. What made your video special is that we also have a STI, so i gave you a thumbs up 👍
We actually measure concrete in Psi. Sidewalks and driveways would be 1800-2500 Psi concrete, your foundation and most likely your garage are 5000-6000 Psi.

If the lift was already assembled, after marking the anchor bolt locations, then lift would need to be moved out out of the way for drilling and so the anchors can be installed and then the lift would need to be moved back to bolt it down. Doing so during initial installation would have resulted in less labor and would have been easier.
Paid $1746 shipped for my 2 post 9k lb lift by Launch. Installed it my self. Done! $650 for my high lift kit installed. Only did that so I can put a car underneath. Otherwise not neccessary. Best present I ever bought!!!

Be careful with it anchored to the ground. This hobbyist grade lift can have some major issues if it can not flex some. Also. Bend Pak does not have the best track with keeping parts in stock and continuing support for older lifts they discontinue.

I have a garage with a Bendpak lift installed, works ok but after a short time all the hydraulic hoses started to leak and burst , oil all over the floor and equipment ruined, Bendpak refused to hear about it and told me to go F))k off. I live in a farming area and had the 4 new hoses made for about $35. each.
WOW, this is a great idea, if i had that in my car port, i could have a guest spend some time and use it for their car to store it, very impressive, great video,,,, my hats off to you sir,,,,,take care,,,,
Thanks for the garage vids and specs. Helps me choosing a home. Seems a little sketchy to use jacks and stands on that lift but eh I might do the same thing you did.
My problem is my garage is only 106" tall. I'll need to get something as short as an Exige (about 46") as my weekend car to fit a 'normal' low 56" car underneath. Life goals :)

The cars are too low for a jack and often is a pretty tight situation with a lift it's raised up and we can stand underneath it. Us it helps so when our hauler is in the shop we can just park my 600 under the 305 on the lift half to put the wing waaaaayy down but that takes seconds
Did you ever figure out if a cheaper bridge jack will work with the HD9?? The Bendpak unit is over 2x the price of the DirectLift but I read that the directlift unit will have issues working on the HD9...haven't been able to confirm that myself. Thanks the video's...very well done.
The short answer is I could never figure out if it'd work so I didn't want to spend $500 to find out. That being said I'll have a video out soon on the RJ-45 from bendpak!
Just get one of those very high jack stands. Put one under the subframe in the middle, lower the lift a bit and BAM you can work on the wheels without having to jack up anything
@@badgerpa9 he did not say or imply "transmission jack"; he referred to the very tall safety stands required when utilizing a two post lift. The point and suggestion are 100% valid and your comment shows you have much to learn.
@@wak359 He says very high jack stand, not safety stand. I did add transmission as that is the normal "very tall jack stand" that I have seen youtubers use under vehicles to hold more than the transmission. @@badgerpa9 oh, I know I have much to learn in.life but not nearly as much as you do. "Transmission jack" is no way interchangeable with "very tall jackstand" except, perhaps, in your intellectually-challenged realm.

I'm curious how that lift supports the weight of the car... I hope it's not only hydraulic pressure... You know, when I lift a car, I use hydraulic pressure... through a jack. Before I get under the car... I put a jack stand under the car... as hydraulics fail. Edit: Safety locks. Seems good to me.

Any possibility that if you change houses, you can take it with you? I mean, it unbolts from the deck, right?

Totally convinced on getting one. Now I just have to convince the Mrs.

@@wak359 He says very high jack stand, not safety stand. I did add transmission as that is the normal "very tall jack stand" that I have seen youtubers use under vehicles to hold more than the transmission. Show me who uses safety stands under their 2 post lift every time they lift. If you do not think you have much to learn yet in life you are very stupid.
@@badgerpa9 oh, I know I have much to learn in.life but not nearly as much as you do. "Transmission jack" is no way interchangeable with "very tall jackstand" except, perhaps, in your intellectually-challenged realm.
@@wak359 at least I am not a fake account with the same IP address as others. He says very high jack stand and yes all over youtube people call them jack stands when they are designed for transmissions under a lift. You are a troll and so are the 6 subscribers associated with your account.
Pretty cool. If you ever sell the house I’m sure it would raise the value for car guys
I was like $2850... oh not bad. I can do that. Then I just checked their website and found it has nearly doubled in price in the past few years!
Superb video. For peace of mind, I agree, screw it into the floor. Thank you for this.

Thanks great explanation. Really helped me make my decision.!
prices starting at $3280, as of jan 2019.
That's a great deal especially if your mechanic pay for itself in the first couple months thanks
