I have always wondered why Americans call those bread, like banana bread or pumpkin bread, but I guess y'all don't have a name for it, where I live we would call it a queque (in Spanish que is pronounced kinda like the ke in ketchup) and that is its own category that in some way can be translated to cake but it's not really what we consider a cake, so things like a pound cake, banana bread ot bundt cake are what we call cake, it's sweet but it doesn't have frosting, probably the most we would add is powdered sugar on top or sometimes cover it in a chocolate shell but it's not something too sweet, then there are pasteles or tortas (depending on the country, in mine we use both for cake, but in places like Mexico a torta is a sandwich), and personally I think is kind of easier, kind of like the use of te quiero as words of affection that are not as deep as love but still a lot of affection
