  • Опубліковано 14 бер 2019
  • Dirty Deborah Harry gives you step-by-step instructions on how to move forward on your skates while pushing both feet outward, bringing them back inward with one foot moving toward the front and crossing. This is the first move / skill you need to master if you want to shuffle skate or just cruise effortlessly on your skates indoors or outdoors.

A tip for those working on bubbles!! To make yourself use the right muscles, I time my breathing. Out when pushing your feet out, and breathe in when bringing your feet in! Makes you bring your gut up :)

I've wanted to learn how to skate since i was like 7- but i was always afraid of falling, because i was terrible at walking as it was. I just dug out my mom's skates at 1'30 am, strapped em on, and practiced standing in my room, it might not seem like a lot, but it is to me, because i've been scared to even put skates on! but now that ive discovered this video im confident i can learn to skate fairly quickly.

I practice every weekend for a couple of hours if the weather is ok. In the last two weeks I have begun to skate backwards with confidence, do crossovers both ways (a bit messy the ‘ wrong’ way, but not awful), cruised and even managed a few very tentative transitions!
When I feel unsure about my skating I watch Deborah’s videos and reassure myself that practice is the key and is in fact what we are always doing!
Thank you from a skater reborn.

Hi Deborah! Thank you! I returned to skating with my kids. We all love it. After a month my kids were still "walking" on their skates. We watched your videos, They were practicing ✂️ and skating well in a day. Your vocab and process of breaking it down is just what we needed. Now we practice by wearing our skates all day while we homeschool. And we pick a new skill to focus on from your videos. We skate outdoors along the beach. We are at the rink once a week with other homeschool families! We have been telling them all about you, now I am teaching homeschool Kids how to skate at the park. Thank you! I must say that I practiced this last weekend at the skater park and I caught myself having a "Dirty Deborah" voice in my head telling me "don't look at your feet", "snack area TIGHT", "down with the butt up with the gut" hahaha :D But IT WORKED!!! (Long post. So sorry!!) I've been watching your videos to re learn how to skate, and I love the way you teach. I got a new pair of Moxi Lollys (yellow. :)) that I adore, and I want to look amazing. Your videos are really helping me figure things out.
The few things I learned how to do - from basically starting out skating to doing a right-over-left crossover (could never do left over right. The rink sessions usually rolled counter clockwise) - was all learned by watching people on the floor and trying to do it myself.
I was 14 and 15, and in a really bad place mentally (the roller rink was my babysitter. My stepmom would drop me off for a 4 hour session while she visited my dad in the hospital that entire summer. I suffered from severe depression coupled with being the unpopular nerd kid, and bad, unmedicated ADHD). So, I didn't really talk to people or make friends or ask how to do something, I was really shy. Even though I was in public, no one really talked to me, either. I was the weird kid. So for that entire time, I skated alone, watching others, and trying to do the same things. I could never figure out how to transition or go backwards, and I could never figure out how to turn back around once I was backwards. Whenever I tried it, I was too slow and wobbly, and people were speeding around me, so it scared me.
I got really good at going fast, though. The only competitions I joined were the speed skating. And I was on rollerblades. Most of the time at the rink, I was in my own world, skating, vibing to the music, and lost in daydreams.
That was a long time ago. Now I have quads for the first time in ages, and I'm trying to relearn how to skate and hopefully become that relaxed, confident skater who can turn and skate backwards with ease that I had always daydreamed I could be.
I was fast, I was small, and I got more rug burns on my knees from falling on the carpet at the rink than I care to admit. I have the small scars to prove it.
I remember feeling like I could never go fast enough.
There was this old man who went to the rink every day (this was the mid/late 90's, so he was one of those guys that cruised on wheels in the 70's), and he skated backwards nearly the entire session. To me, he was Goals. I wanted to be that level of cool.
Honestly, because of where I was at in that time in my life, even though I was alone all the time, and a pretty bad skater, the rink probably saved me.
Now I'm overweight, out of shape, stressed from working at a restaurant throughout the pandemic, and trying to skate again. Life's too short. I want to live.

Love your channel. I’ve been binge watching your videos all day and came across this one. I was at the rink last night and a group of guys were doing this and made it look so hard 😩 I found this video and you made it look so easy just by teaching the mechanics. Thank you so much! You’re beautiful btw ☺️ 💕
