This song was new when I met my future wife @ 19 years old. She asked me out through a mutual friend. Oh my, she was so pretty with that smile, 80's hair and a she was and still is a real sweetheart. She told me I was the most handsome boy she had ever saw. A year later we were married and still are. Where have the years gone to?
Good to read about you guys. I came out a pub near home, rather drunk after being dumped, she conned me into taking her home. that was in1970, now it's 2024, we got married in 1972 still married today 11/7/24. That is 52 years wed in September this year 2024. She was not quite 17 I was just of 20, Motown and the Twins fed us while young. Kids of today do not know what good music is, sorry kids, our grandkids laugh when they see us kiss and dance. Hey we are still on the honeymoon. Every word here is the truth. Love from Perth Australia

Perhaps the best of all the decades no matter where you happened to be !! I grew up with this music in sanctioned South Africa and forever glad for the independent radio stations that played non conformist or banned music due to a good deal of smuggling from the surrounding countries..

If society would really listen to this song and try to live out the message from the Thompson Twins…we would all be much happier and better off. This song is better than gold.
I was 20 years old in 1984 and the best years of hits was from 1982-1986 the late1980s was fading away with very little hits and it started picking up again into the early 1990s to 1997 then faded away again.
I was 13 in 84 and agree after around 87/88 music started taking a turn for the worse, the odd decent tune came along here and there but not as prolifically as earlier in the decade.
@@david2869 i was 23 in 1984 working for Blockbuster video! what a wonderful era..Indeed 1984 had some of the very best music.. classics such as "Round and Round" by RATT and Haircut 100's "Love Plus One" standout with 873 other great songs
The 80's! I was there! It was a privilege. It was my childhood .Thanks to all who participated. It'll never be duplicated again in all of human history! ✌️
We all knew at the time we were living in an amazing time for music and outrageous haircuts 😂. Listening to this is like a time travel were you get glimpses how we used to be....❤80s!
The person who runs the terminal music at the airport I work at, is almost exclusively 80s music. I hear this and other Thompson Twins songs all the time.
Where was I when this song was new? I was 13, so how I missed it, I just don't know. I used to watch MTV (remember when they had actual music videos?) and TBS Friday nights, Night Tracks. I found this on Pandora and I have probably listened to it 100 times. I always LOVED the Thompson Twins.
The descending and contrapoint chords and baseline from 0:30-0:39 are just perfection. It's the ultimate hook. Who else but these amazing musicians ever wrote such complex and interesting chords in a pop song in the 80's, apart from Nik Kershaw? What talent.

I'm s big fan of the thompson twins! I always thought they were brother sister, but the name came from a British deceive show! I'm an 80,s kid! We all tried to dress like these bands in high-school! The rock stars set the fashion! I always wanted tom,s hair! I read that dome actually cut of his ponytail at a concert and he had to were a fake on until his real hair grew it back!
This song and video are fantastic. If only people would live by those words. Thompson Twins put a lot of feeling into their songs. The small robot was Omnibot, which I had wanted back then.
1985 was the year we got our first (Beta) VCR. I remember because I started recording music videos off the TV and this was one of the first ones I taped! I was just 10 years old. 😊

I wasn’t even alive in the 80s, but this song is so memorable to me. CVS plays it at least 2-3 times in an 8-hour shift. It took a while to figure out the name of the song and the band, but it’s a vibe.
The music. The dancing the movies the raw emotion the heartbreak the love.. It makes me sad to know that the kids of today will never know any of this..
I absolutely can't stand this song! It reminds me of loosing and not having enough of anything such as income! It also brings back bad memories of loosing my beloved cousin in winter of 1986. I certainly love Hold Me Now which was released a couple of years earlier!

Yes we had the best time
I love the Thompson twins they made some music
I'm gonna be bold and say that 1986 was the best year of music in the 80s.
It definitely wasn't a bad year!
84 was my favourite. Apparently voted as such in a poll, but who am I to say? 80s full stop will never be repeated
84 was my favourite and also voted best year for music apparently on radio
