Years and years of shreddin’ with the radio, lol and then UA-cam, and finally understanding modalities and the pentatonic positions vertically and horizontally. Understanding modes and ‘how the guitar works’ were some huge light bulbs!! INTERVALS was huge too, lol. Oh, and anatomy of the major chord \m/ flippin’ mind blowing :-) cause all the other chords are based on variations of the major 1, 3, 5 - it’s all just so amazing…. Love it. But pretty much self taught, hate trying to read tab. Played in parks, at barbecues, at weddings and on a worship team for a few years - acoustically of course. You been playing long? I’d like to take some jazz lessons.
@@oldguyjammin9732 playing for about 30 years but haven't made a leap anywhere close to your abilities. Still play but not as much as before. I've found the better tone I can find the better and more motivated I am to play.
@@jamesjudd6577 - hence the addiction to buying more gear, for better/different tone to feel motivated, lol. Thousands of overdrive pedals out there and yet, they all pretty much do the same thing. I was in a few bands in the 80s - didn’t know what I was playing but my ear was enough to fake it - getting to know the notes on my neck (like where all the A’s or E’s are, or B’s) and the fact that any scale, no matter how long is just a repeat of 5-8 notes, really opened things up. It’s the same pattern just played at a different spot! Like the pentatonic position 1, play it from A, when you finish the 5 notes you’re on another A, so play it again, then again, then on just one string (that’s intervals), etc. It’s too much fun, if you lived closer we could jam!
@@jamesjudd6577 - oh man, Nashville… we’re looking to retire in that north eastern corner and while there last summer, we toured Broadway with a friend that knew the street… what an absolute BLAST. What an awesome way to spend our last day in TN!! And of course we went to Buccee’s several times and didn’t even know why we were going in, lol just like a thousand other folks we talked to, ha ha.
So true....... sounds sooooooo much better. I'll take it. Hehehehehheheh Thanks for the video, helped me out.
Where'd you learn to play btw?
