Rex can actually claim he lived 200 years Dogmeat could be a synth German Shepherd Cuz Red Rocket is a stones throw from Vault 111 and Shawn could have set it up "Mans best friend, against a wasteland"
"The Kings are about an idea, you see? Where every man is free to follow his own path, do his own thing. Where every man is a king in his own right.” - The King
The King's reaction to Rex's death is heavy. Rex reminds me of my own dog named Rex who passed away last year so it's sort of like having him back again when I replay New Vegas, but now I have to fight off tears when I get to thinking about him.
Honestly I feel like the best possible brain choice is actually Lupa’s brain. Since it likely didn’t cause Rex much distress with memories, because Rex was already with the Legion. And the ending slide with Lupa’s brain never mention Rex having trouble with his memories. So Rex will likely think that Lupa’s memories are his own.
Rex with ED-E are my favourite companions, and the main reason i like the Kings, its because the King is an awesome human being towards Rex, i always make sure the Kings survive when i join forces with House.
200+ years of being the goodest boy in the whole world. It was between Rex and Boone for who was my most used companion. While Boone was a boon (ha!) for his ability to snipe things miles away, Rex was just a reliable pupper. Gah! Your videos seriously are making me want to do another playthrough of New Vegas...
I am not going to lie, i had a tear in my eye with this one. Great work! One thing i have always wanted to see a video on is what you think would happen in each game if the protagonist wasn't involved
wow, it's really amazing the kind of stories you get told when you don't murder everyone... the most i ever talked to the legion for was arcade ganon so i'd get his trust points and all his character dialogue & what not sure i've only beaten the game about 15-20 times now but still. maybe i should run with the legion for once instead of treating them like an xp pinata
Rex is involved in a unique quest only accessible with the wild wasteland perk (which is something I'm saving for a different video). Jimmy's well is a location in the Mojave Wasteland in 2281. The well is just south of Fields' shack, to the west of Nellis Air Force Base, just under the large overpass. With the Wild Wasteland trait and Rex as a companion, sometime during the game, he will bark and by initiating conversation with him while he is doing this, a unique dialogue option to ask if a boy is in a well will be available. Rex will respond by barking and a marker will be placed on the map. Rex alerting the Courier to the location and the location itself are references to the television show Lassie. A similar series of events takes place in Fallout 2. In Modoc, a boy named Jonny is missing. His dog will indicate that the Chosen One should look in the town well. After climbing down into the well, Jonny's BB gun can be found in the northern portion of the tunnels. Jonny himself, however, has been captured by the Slags and can be found in their underground cistern.
Maybe Caesar just kept Rex as a pet and guard dog, a subservient automaton. During the First Battle for Hoover Dam, perhaps he just ran off in the middle of the general chaos of Caesar's forward base and the battle. Do we know if Rex is stated as dead when Caesar loses him, or does he just straight-up lose Rex? I kinda like the idea that Rex just ran off to the Mojave.
4:30 I like to think that Rex was trying to remember a “cat”. Sadly, due to his degradation he can’t quite remember so he expresses dislike towards “rat” and “hat”.
@@concept5631I looked it up and Violet's line is cut dialogue. House refers to cats as extinct, but they exist in Fallout 4 and 76. The most likely answer is that cats are just extinct on the west coast and House has incomplete information.
Always nice to learn about lore from the bizzare world of Fallout. Would it be possible to cover the treasure of Jamaica Plain? Keep fighting the good fight.
The kings and the followers of the apocalypse are two of my all time favorite groups. They make up a small number of groups that do good just for the sake of it.
Great video, Rex is proof that dogs are man's best friend....miss my buddy Radar, he was a good boy. Always on alert much like Rex and would let us know if there was an issue. However Radar was okay with hats.
The only ending I will accept is he gets his new brain, him and Roxie have their pups, and he's the Kings best boy (and 6's friend). All other Rex endings are null and void.
Just a comment on Rex’s past. Antony never says specifically the cyber dog was lost in the battle of Hoover dam he just vaguely says a battle. Also Antony was a hangdog from Denver and wouldn’t have known Caesar before the first battle of Hoover dam so that means that Rex was found and lost by Caesar since the first battle of Hoover dam.
Rex's name has to be my favorite bit of story telling about him. Its a common dog name, sure, but its also latin for King. Considering you get him from The King and he has a background with the latin speaking faction (maybe even the monarchical ruler of said faction) it just serves to show how good New vegas' writing is.
I don't get wanting to change the brain, that's literally what makes the dog, the dog. It's just a new dog, unless you can explain his memory is somehow held inside his mechanical component, I guess in the Fallout universe swapping brains is just magic star dust
Using Rey's brain makes the most sense since Rey means king in Spanish. Plus, Rey had a long happy life compared to Fiend drugging and Legion beatings the other two choices had to endure.
On the other hand, the reason his mind melds with Lupa's the best is because he understands. They both know what the Legion is like and neither of them seemed to really enjoy it, and that understanding between them can be a comfort But by merging with Rey, you're taking the mind of an old scrapyard dog with a relatively peaceful life and happy memories, and introducing the many pains Rex experienced in his life. That might seem nice to do for Rex, but is that really fair for Rey? There's no real right answer of course, but that's my perspective
I love your videos! Can you do a video, or two on the events that brought about the Great War in the first place? You have the perfect voice for storytelling.
I think that and have always felt is the old lady Gibson’s dog ray is the chronological choice as I believe that is the choice that would be made because I’m the end Rex finds peace and gets used to his new brain remembering long walks with old lady Gibson and learning to let go of his turbulent past.
Ngl the developers shoulda let us grab Gabe’s brain from the Old World Blues before he exploded. Or better yet allow the courier to put his lobotomized brain into Rex so that he can talk shit about everything the player does 😅
Im sure in the not so distant future we'll have cyberdogs. It wouldn't look as obvious as the dogs in fallout. No reason to leave the goodist boys and girls behind in the future.
I slaughtered the Legion and killed Caesar, along with the dog that has the brain needed for Rex. So that’s my canon. And he had a litter of cyberpups with Roxie. I like to think one of those pups ended up with my courier. Also, in the off chance you read this. A suggestion. A question that’s been bothering me since my very first play through of FO4… Where did the Institute get a FEV sample from? My personal best guess is from Appalachia. Specifically either from the waters around Huntersville or from a dead Appalachian super mutant. But that’s a long distance for an Institute scientist to travel.
I think the hangdog legionairre is trying to say they had the same modifications not that they are the same dog so implying to the player Rex is from denver
I feel like rex just passed away of old age literally everything we do he just evetually passed away be it with the couriour or his new friend the great King himself he lived very well and died even better
This is going to sound weird but my dog does not like hats. Even if its someone familiar he treats them as strangers and barks up a storm until they take off their cap . Sombreros too

"They barked for a while, and realized they had much in common."
GREATEST LOVE STORY OF ALL TIME
Whoever lost Caesars dog had a very shitty day
They set him on fire and threw him off the fort
Was their last day too.
Synonymous: "He'll always return to Freeside, to be with his friend."
Me: "I'm not crying, *you're* crying!"
It does not matter what Rex’s past is. He is the goodest boy in new Vegas. That is the most important part.
And the coolest Dogmeat okay but a Cyber dog for the courier company makes that duo way cooler
And Dogmeat is the goodest boy in the Capitol Wasteland and the Commonwealth respectively.
Bro same pic
dogmeat would like a word
Rex can actually claim he lived 200 years
Dogmeat could be a synth German Shepherd
Cuz Red Rocket is a stones throw from Vault 111 and Shawn could have set it up
"Mans best friend, against a wasteland"
I’d like to think the Doctor the King knocks out was Arcade.
Arcade has a very punchable face, if it was Fallout 2 you could probably hit him inthe face with skill of 20%
