That Gun not being in Fallout 4 is a damned shame. It could have been a legendary weapon that does 30% more damage to synths. My number is a bit arbitrary, but it should be a great weapon to have, but not overpowered either.
Fallout 4's weapon selection in general is shameful. Awful toy looking guns and very few that feel any satisfying. There's a reason weapon mods are the most popular mods by a lot.
Old glory isn't a flagpole, it's actually the staff of the Congress. Long ago it was an actual weapon used against unruly assembly members, but these days it mostly functions as a talking stick on the rare occasion they actually use it. Also, weapons with randoms women's names like Annabelle and Esther are references to the US military tradition of giving your weapon a woman's name (or in more recent times, a man's if you're gay or a female.) The tradition goes back further than our country's history into obscurity and is most prevalent in the Marines and army
I think he meant that originaly this weapon was much weaker and was called a flagpole back when Ulysses was supposed to be a companion in the base game but sadly that idea was cut. However if this idea had made it into the game the Lonesome Road dlc probobly wouldn't exist. Interesting fact though.
it is a flagpole, you're þinking of Þe Mace of þe House of Representatives. generally when you have a floor stand version of þe flag of Þe United States it sits on a short flag pole ~6' tall with a golden eagle ontop of þe pole.
The big boomer is a reference to Mel Gibsons character Mad Max, as it is carried by Old lady Gibson, and Mad Max carried the sawed off shotgun, and big boomer is a common phrase and mountain in Australia
That's a really cool idea actually, I really like the idea of some unique conditions changing the stats of some of these unique guns. Killing named leaders of Caesars Legion making Recompense stronger is a great example of how that would work. Headshotting named all named Fiends with la longue carabine could boost the DAM of la longue carabine (tradeoff for not getting full bounties for the related quest)
True. Regular and few of the uniques which are liberator, Boone's version and the one used in the legion's arena (I think this one can't be dropped could be wrong about that tho). I really like its homemade aesthetic.
A little extra detail about the engravings on the Survivalists Carbine, the fact that it is chambered in 12.7mm (which is .50cal) and is called a "Checkpoint Carbine" suggests it was used mainly to stop vehicles at border crossings/checkpoints, similar to how .50cal rifles are used in the real world. Just a nice little detail to explain why it is chambered in such an unusual caliber, I guess :D
@@jackpfefferkorn3734 Yes, it's a very large and very heavy bullet, especially compared to the standard 5.56mm used by the Service Rifle of FNV! It is, quite literally, over twice as big in diameter. In the real world soldiers will shoot the engine block of moving vehicles to instantly stop them.
eh. its good but boring. I prefer This Machine because it looks and sounds satisfying while being slightly reminiscent of one of the coolest rifles ever made (M1 Garand) and when it hits you really feel it. well. you don't, but the target sure does.

Cleansing flame does refer to purifying something with fire, but that on itself it's a reference to cleansing a wound with a hot/burning object in order to cauterize the wound to prevent infection. Also, Bloodnap sounds better than Dirtnap for a knife/dagger as you won't be sleeping in the dirt but rather in a pool of your own blood. Stab stab.
Pushy might be a reference to Fallout 2, which introduced a mechanic to push neutral NPCs out of your way if their random idle pathing managed to stick you in a corner. In the first game you had to either load a previous save or start making dead bodies.
Ill never forget my faithful companion Ian, who trapped me in the vault 13 entrance with dogmeat and Katja locking me from walking into the vault. He will me missed... Oh my mistake, he will be *mist.*
Best 2hander anyway. Chance’s knife with Grunt+Cowboy is higher dps, and if you mod grunt to work on dlc weapons you got bloodnap that is higher than chance. Oh Baby!’s primary advantage is perk economy, as it’s much stronger without those two perks
1:04:37 As far as Thompson-esque weapons in the game we have the honorable mention of the .45 Auto SMG which was in Honest Hearts, _but_ in the base game we have the absolutely-a-Thompson-copy Laser RWC, the Silenced .22 SMG (an AM180 which was styled after the Thompson), and we have the Automatic Rifle which is a BAR _which Clyde used_ and would've been fitting as knock-off Bonnie and Clyde's weapon.
The straight razor called "Figaro" does not have metallic grip panels, but pearl. Thus was a common upgrade to the visual esthetics of many different tools and weapons with revolvers being a primary example.

I keep thinking it's a dumb idea, but then again why would a sniper's nest be this high above Cottonwood Cove? No sign of an NCR ranger who might have been perched there. Now I feel bad about giving it to Boone.
There is a note in Camp McCarran about setting up that sniper nest. Boone might have used it, but I don't think he built it or the Gobi was his. Why would Boone have or be given a rifle from the Gobi Desert campaign?

I always thought that Two Step Goodbye was a reference to the 2 step viper. In which that was as far as you were expected to get before you die👀 But nonetheless, great video as always N_orte👍
When i heard the reference, i instantly thought of the 5 finger palm exploding heart technique from kill bill 2. But Bill took 5 steps before his heart exploded from the attack, so it wasn't a reference to that.
...Not really, when you consider that dozens of other youtubers have already done this exact thing, and weirdly enough, presented in the EXACT SAME order as other channels, and all of the stats info is availableto snyone with google...Would have taken about 40 minutes to collect the in-game footage, and about an hour and half to record the audio...But sure :)
I remember playing Day Z with a dude back in the day (like 2010 oof) He always called the Shotgun the "Dinner Bell" because you shoot it once and all the zombies in the area come around for a meal. I always assumed it was from something but I never looked into it, especially because the FNV shotgun had the same name. Hopefully that can maybe help your search.
You're wrong about Dinner Bell, with Shotgun Surgeon as a perk it's a great weapon to take advantage of since it probably has the highest effective range for a shotgun other than the single shot one. Some weapons really shine in conjunction with certain perks
Given the game's habit of naming quests after songs, Two-Step Goodbye could also be a reference to dancing. The Texas Two-Step is a simple partner dance that's well-suited to most of the country-western music in the game. In the same vein, Little Devil could be named for Neil Sedaka's song by the same name. "There'll be no more running around, you've met your Waterloo, hey little devil, I'm gonna make an angel out of you.:
The Avenger might also be a reference to the GAU-8 rotary cannon found on the A-10. The GAU-8 is also called the Avenger Though the caliber doesn't match, it's still a fun thing to consider Edit: that's not how you say "paciencia" lol
@@NoActuallyGo-KCUF-Yourself the thing about "paciencia" is that it's a spanish name, so I don't blame him. And I wasn't mocking him, I just noticed it kind of looks like it

So bear thing about the Gobi campaign sniper is that it is most likely the gun Boone used to kill his wife. It's found in a snipers nest above the slave trader in cottonwood cove where Boone says he shot his wife.
not really the confirmed place, just circumstancial evidence from the geography and boone's line about "...been here before", but i see where you're getting at
The unique weapon list from Fallout 3 is my favorite of yours. This right here is just icing on the cake. The little footnotes about all the weapons are much appreciated. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this.
It's actually visually identical to Elmer Keith's revolver number 5, as he is a noted western figure and responsible for the 357 and 44 magnum cartridges
the use of energy cells and shot gun shells on fist weapons works fine, the game supports it, energy cells will count down and give you the effect of the fired rounds, the only thing that doesn't work about it is you can apply a mini nuke to fists as well. It is a glitch but it works with in the games code flawlessly
There is actually a death claw gauntlet, however, it can only be acquired through the use of console commands. The death claw gauntlet is notable for having a 5 time critical hit multiplier making it the one of two weapons with said critical hit multiplier with the other being the the rat slayer. Edit: Made some spelling and grammar corrections.
Recompense of the fallen also seems to be a bit of a joke at the expense of the dead. You find it in a legion headquarters tossed into a desk. It seems like the legion mocking the NCR
Here's the thing about Fallout. I hate this whole "I want better graphics" type gaming now. The beautiful gritty feel FNV graphics gave us was the best. Example of FNV deathclaws vs F4 deathclaws. FNV deathclaws gave me jumpscares. F4 Deathclaws looked too polished. It would be nice to have a Fallout New Vegas 2 with the option of old and new graphics. This game can't be beat imo. Great video btw
People have been saying this well before New Vegas came out, let alone today. They were even arguing the same thing comparing Fallout 3 to the original games claiming that the graphics had too much focus put on them. Graphical fidelity isn't mutually exclusive with other qualities found in a game. Especially with AAA games considering larger budgets and huge dev teams. Don't forget that these games were considered good looking at one point. Off the top of my head the Battlefield games are another one that people used to say they focused too much on the graphics. That was back when we thought games couldn't look much better than BF4; it was new and so took a lot of player focus. Today you can easily tell it came out in 2013 as it doesn't look as good as we all thought and is pretty easy to run on a modern PC. It's the gameplay that players have stuck around for and it's unhindered by all those who wanted the cutting edge in graphics back in 2013. For some reason people act like AAA dev teams don't have specialized workers organized into departments and are instead this equally skilled monolithic group that can only work on one thing at a time. It doesn't help that so many AAA games today release in a poor state but still usually look good. It has a lot more to do with the business side of things and stuff like micro transactions than it does resource management. That really only comes into play with indie games, or at least it should.
When I first started playing video games, graphics didn't exist. I laugh at all the whiny children today talking about "bad graphics" from any games made after 1990. I played fucking Cave and Hack that were text-based only, and I still think 8-bit graphics from the '80s are amazing compared to basically ASCII art graphics of games like Castle Adventure or Y-Fighter.
Damn, b-roll of each weapon being found or the parts of the surrounding quest being completed would've made this video the greatest FONV unique weapon video in existence. I get that it would've made the editing and recording process so much more time consuming though lol, so I get it. It's still a great video with a plethora of info!
Dirt nap refers to a nap in the dirt - a person being dead underground. blood nap therefore means a nap in blood - a person laying stabbed dead in a pool of their own blood
Recompense of the fallen seems more like a sarcastic name, given how it is found by, and probably made and named by the Legion. It's like a double down on the NCR's sacrifice. The buy dog tags of dead NCR soldiers, and probably made the weapon to humilliate more NCR by killing them with the names of their past-tense members. It makes more sense that it gains power by killing NCR, not the other way around.
Great video, I applaud all the work that went into this! Mild nitpick is there are a bunch of words you mispronounced like "nanometer", "picometer", "paciencia", etc..
nice video, i love the new vegas uniques, i have a suggestion for a video idea, can you make a lore video explaining how bad pre-war america was? robots taking over jobs, food shortages, nationalism and propaganda etc.., i think it honestly would be nice to see a video talking specifically about the state the country was in pre-war and how it would be like for a normal citizen to live in such a place.
@@AnAverageGoblin Hence why we need a lore video since people really need to put things in perspective. We don't have shortages and rationing and mass labour protests. We have a senile man and a government stacked with people who hate us, which is almost normal.
Weathered doesn't mean worn in this case. Weathering refers to the chemical composition of these steels, allowing them to exhibit increased resistance to atmospheric corrosion compared to other steels. (wikipedia)
The story of Randall Clark genuinely made me tear up the first time I really paid attention to it. The writing is done incredibly well, and finding it all out thru terminals throughout Zion was satisfying. The Survivalist Rifle is a cherry on top of a great, incredibly sorrowful story.
I’ve always thought of the Humble Cudgel as a nod to Dead Island. One of the legendary Cudgels is known as the Humble Cudgel. The Cudgels in Dead Island aren’t pipes however
The Rat Slayer is quite good due to its availability. You can acquire it for free at the start of the game if you know it exists. Early on, you are likely going to have a Varmint Rifle and maybe a Cowboy Repeater as the rifles available to you. The Rat Slayer not only provides a significant upgrade to the standard Varmint Rifle, but it's also scoped and suppressed, which is uncommon among rifles in the game in general. This allows you to acquire an excellent early to mid game Sneak weapon, which is when a long range suppressed weapon is extremely useful in compensating for lower Sneak and no Sneak perks. Others have mentioned the much better options in the base game for a gun that could be used to reference Bonnie and Clyde, instead of the 9mm SMG. I want to point out further that the M3 Grease Gun that the 9mm SMG is based on should actually fire .45 ACP, like the M1 Thompson, but they didn't add that ammunition until Honest Hearts when they added a gun based on the M1 Thompson. The Vicky and Vance gun is just a mess of a reference. The Q35 Modulator is most useful early, because it only consumes 1 MF cell per shot instead of the 2 a standard Plasma Rifle consumes. MF cells are rather hard to accumulate early on and Laser Rifles don't pack enough punch without perks and stats to boost them.
Me and my brother have been re playing this game since it first came OUT ❤ WE HAD THE COMIC BOOK AND CARAVAN Cards and i will never stop playing this game
An additional interpretation of “A Light Shining in the Darkness” is a literal representation of how it might be seen from a distance; flashes of muzzle fire in a dark cave.
N_orte, you are aware that the 45 auto submachine gun is the tommy gun right? They basically just had to re-work the laser rcw and the 45 sub into the tommy
39:00 Or maybe the Red Ryder BB gun is a reference to the actual Red Ryder Carbine BB gun, since the Red Ryder BB gun came out almost 50years before A Christmas Story was released. And because basically every kid from the 1940s to 2000s will never forget seeing that long thin box in wrapping paper under the Christmas tree. As a kid most of my best friends were girls and they also got a Red Ryder, no doll houses for those badass little girls, 20+ years later most of them are either Soldiers or Marines now and still my closest friends. There's a reason why A Christmas Story used the Red Ryder, I don't know anyone who didn't get a Red Ryder BB gun and yes, everyone who had a Red Ryder at least once got hit with a ricocheting BB, usually to the face or neck but the Red Ryder shot BB's at a very low velocity so it wasn't dangerous is just stung. Hell, we used run around the woods playing war shooting each other but we always wore safety glasses.
There’s at least two that I know of in the Old World Blues DLC… though I would consider it in the same class despite it being considered “rare” like the Ranger Sequoia, Red Glare, Shoulder Mounted LMG, Arc Welder, H&H Tools Nail Gun, Bowie Knife, etc.

Hey Norte have you ever tried steath killing just the Alien captain. If you havent your next playthrough try it. Just remember it has to be a Stealth kill of the captain only.
I personally think that Two step goodbye is called what its called cause of how the weapon works. You punch someone and by punching them, the barrel (pressumably shotgun) shoots. Basically two step goodbye.

Its crazy because i first watched night of the hunter back in middle school, loved the movie, and then forgot the title! Thank you for the refresher so now i can watch it
The Ratslayer may be a reference to the Crosman Ratcatcher series of bolt-action air rifles, which all come by default dressed in black polymer and scopes. Being air rifles, they're also much quieter than explosive firearms. It's a common first "gun" in the UK, since firearms are much more heavily restricted, and presumably other areas with restrictive gun laws.
There are so many uniques I didn't know existed because they belong to characters I'd never think to kill or rob, or are found in places I never knew existed
On the point of the "Big Boomer", in the US the National Firearms Act of 1934 considers all firearms under 16 inches a pistol. If the "Big Boomer" is under 16 inches it would therefore be a pistol. As well, the word "Boomer" might be related to "boom stick" which is common slang for a shotgun, particularly a side-by-side double barrel. Also, a quick side note, the 357 in 357 Magnum is always pronounced "three fifty-seven" when referring to the bullet caliber. Really good video, really enjoyed it.
Fun fact, no it doesn't. Little known and admittedly sort of useless knowledge the 16" length wasn't done until the 1968 GCA, the NFA uses an 18" requirement on both shotguns and rifles. The 16" came about after the US Govt surplussed a bunch of M1 Carbines which, by either sheer happenstance or a giga-chad at Winchester, have a barrel length of 17-3/4". The US Govt just sold thousands of NFA items like they were normal rifles, and to save face and not attempt to mass arrest a bunch of people they amended the definition of rifle include a 16" barrel when the GCA was passed. Why 16"? Because after 1934 and prior to 1968 a lot of .22 rifles were granted a sort of 'sporting exception' and allowed to have 16" barrels but not qualify as SBRs. Does that really matter? Not really, because the GCA still says 16" so it's 16", but it does help if you needed any more reason to think the government is run by idiots who cant even tyranny properly.

I think he meant that originaly this weapon was much weaker and was called a flagpole back when Ulysses was supposed to be a companion in the base game but sadly that idea was cut. However if this idea had made it into the game the Lonesome Road dlc probobly wouldn't exist.

To be exact it's chambered in 50 Beowulf not BMG it's closer in shape with a pistol round.

The “Two-step” in 2step goodbye is probably a reference to line dancing. The two-step is a dance.
That's what I always assumed for the 2-Step as well. I've also heard "Texas two-step" as fighter slang for a kind of knockout punch.
The Avenger might also be a reference to the GAU-8 rotary cannon found on the A-10. The GAU-8 is also called the Avenger

Esther is named like that because of military tradition. Like the landmine that bounces up "Bouncing Betty".
Everybody knows you dont complete "Bleed Me Dry" for the Dinner Bell, its just an added bonus.
Dirt nap refers to a nap in the dirt - a person being dead underground. blood nap therefore means a nap in blood - a person laying stabbed dead in a pool of their own blood
The holy hand grenade is also a reference to a fallout2 random encounter where some people are looking for it
I like to think the Medecine Stick is also an euphemism for "permanently anesthetizing a patient"
It cures every ailment!
Actually the machetes in nv are not paper cutters but lawnmower blades

I was not ready to hear you pronounce "chasm" with a soft 'ch'
